The kitten child was sitting on his knees in the cart, arms folded over the side and big green eyes warily watching everything going on around him. He had been to the grocery store many times, and each time was equally as boring. He let out a tiny groan to showcase his displeasure to his caretaker, who just smiled and stroked carefully over his hair. She didn't want to disrupt it... No one should ever just throw rocks into a volcano.
Jax was usually a rather placid little tot in a calm scenario such as this one, but today he was on the lookout for anything interesting. They had come here too many times within the past week, and he was quickly growing overly bored of the entire place. His mama started to talk to him idly in that way she does, as if he were actually listening. Instead, he pulled his blankie up to his chin and whispered something to his friend. There had to be something around here that was interesting... Somewhere.. He even found the pictures on the boxes and ads that they passed to be uninteresting. He had seen them too many times. Their bright colors and funky shapes no longer interested him... And he'd seen other children, but the few he had seen were busy screaming and throwing tantrums-- qualities he liked to avoid in a potential companion. He sighed quietly and popped his thumb-digit into his mouth.

Screaming and throwing a tantrum Zane was not. Though his frazzled mom looked pretty close to throwing on of her own. The pair stood smack dab in the middle of the aisle, taking up the entire space. Nara stood exhaustively, staring at the shelves as if they would tell her what her forgotten list of items were. Zane on the other hand, was perfectly energetic. The boy strained towards the shelves every couple minutes, tugging on the baby-leash that kept him tethered far enough away that he couldn't reach the bright colored boxes.
It was Zane who noticed the approaching cart first. Excited at the prospect of something different approaching his sphere of interaction, the boy turned and quickly tugged on his mom's pants. "Up! Up up up!" he begged.
With a sigh Nara, bent down and grabbed up the toddler. Finally catching sight of the approaching cart, the woman stepped politely to the side of the isle. "No touching," she idly reminded her son, switching sides so he was facing away from the tempting items on the shelves. Which was perfect fine with Zane. He was more interested in the cart. And was that a kitty?

Tairi offered a smile to the fellow mom before returning to her business, gazing thoughtfully at the shelves. What had she needed from this aisle again? Ohh yes. She stopped her cart near the other two, leaving it there for a moment as she stepped to the side to try and grab something from the higher shelves.. Ugh. Sometimes not being tall sucked.
Jax peered at the other child with wide, bright green eyes. He squinted at him thoughtfully for a moment, and then stood up in the cart. He left Raggy at his feet for now, paying attention to the other child. His ears twitched a few times atop his head, and he leaned a bit forward to get a better look at the fellow toddler. They were already kind of close due to where his mom had left the cart, but he wasn't quite sure how he felt about this other kid yet.. But the most enthralling thing to him was that the other little one had black skin, like Jax did. "Hewwo." He greeted the other tot warily.

Zane was tempted to try and jump over to the cart and pet the kitty, but before he could, it stood up and began to talk to him.
Taken by surprise, the boy blinked at the black cat for a long minute before replying. "Hi?" He finally manged to mutter back, leaning back against Nara for support. The woman looked down, surprised at unusual action. Seeing the other toddler, she just ruffled Zane's already crazy hair reassuringly and went back to perusing the shelf.
"Wha're you?" Zane finally asked, staring at the kitty that could talk.

The little boy seemed surprised at the other kid's reaction to him- he had never been received like that before. His ears lowered backwards slightly now, a pout coming across his face. He didn't like it, he decided. He looked at the other boy- messy, messy. He crossed his arms and canted his head to the side slightly, wrinkling his nose, ever dramatic. "I a wittle boy," He informed the other child, tail swaying back and forth behind him.
His mother cast an uncertain glance towards him- it was rare for Jaxxy to take up an attitude so quickly. The narcissist hiding somewhere in that little tot seemed to be disturbed by the boy's fear in him... And the fact Zane was a boy might have something to do with it, also, she figured and gave a shake to her head.
Jax seemed to drop the matter quickly enough- his toddler ADD didn't allow him to hold any grudges. He held out his arm now, pointing at his arm, and then at the other boy's black skin, "Same!" He informed him, seeming proud of his discovery. "Same co'or!" He had yet to find anybody who was the same color as him! Now, the little kitten child seemed to pull a complete 180, having now found some strange kinship in the other boy.

Zane watched the other child suspiciously. Even though the toddler claimed to be a little boy, Zane wasn't sure he bought it. "'Look like a kitty..." he contradicted Jax, watching the ears twitch and turn. Carefully, Zane reached up and touched his own ears. Definitely normal ears.
Zane stared down at his own skin and back to the kitty. They did have the same colored skin! Having never really paid too much attention to his appearance (or anyone elses) Zane had completely missed the similarity. "Yeah.." the toddler admitted, slowly warming up to the boy. " 'ou have funny ears..." he finally said.

"Kin'a a kitty." The little one mused, rubbing his nose idly with a paw. He didn't really bother delving too deeply into that one. He didn't quite understand it all himself. He smiled now that the other boy agreed with him, his earlier attitude seeming all but dissolved. His ears wriggled as they were mentioned, and the boy blinked once or twice, falling silent. He had what...?
Being the toddler he was, he didn't really understand that his features could be anything but normal. Despite the fact that the other boy obviously didn't have ears like his, he never thought they were that different. "Fuzzy ears." He responded. "Kitty ears." He paused a moment, and then pointed up at his mama, "Mama ha' ears wike mine."
The young woman did indeed have herself a set of white cat ears, although hers were mostly hidden by her hat.
"Who you?" The boy finally had thought to ask, seeming to have gotten over his ears being called funny.

Zane nodded like he knew exactly what the kitty was talking about. Blinking, he stared at the woman, finally leaning forward and away from his own mom. Pulling his hair back the boy showed off his own round ear. "Mine'er diffren'," he explained. "Like mommies," he added with a nod. That settled that. They both had ears like their mom's.
Zane perked up with a michevious grin. "'m Zane!" he proclaimed proudly. "Wha's your name?" he asked. Idly the toddler wondered if his kitty could get out and play. The cart seemed almost as restricting as his leash.

Now that the other boy seemed more open towards him, Jaxxy truly seemed to warm up. He smiled brightly. "I Jaxith." He paused for a moment, "Or Jax." A lot of people seemed to call him that instead. Even his mama. He supposed he should offer that up as well.
He pondered for a moment in his little toddler mind, and then leaned forward, "Wanna play?" He had finally found something to do in the grocery store! This was very exciting for the kitten. He took this moment to turn to his mother with a sudden pout. He hit her with his wide eyes and moved to the other side of the cart. "Mamaa~" She turned towards him, brows arched, and he looked at her with his most pleading eyes. "Wan' down. Wan' out. P'eeeeaseee~?" The woman sighed softly and smiled at him. "Okay, but no wandering off this time. Stay nearby. And if I call for you, you come."
The kitten boy grinned and nodded eagerly, and as he was whisked into his mother's arms her gave her a quick snuggle and a happy purr before he was deposited on the ground. He trodded over to where the other boy's mother stood, peering at him, smile remaining. His tail swished back and forth eagerly, and he kneaded his blanket. He wanted to plaay~!

Okay. Apparently it was much easier to get out of the cart than it was to get out of his leash. Nearly every time he went out, the leash slipped on and didn't come up despite the numerous amount of tantrums he had thrown.
Zane tugged on his mom's arm. "Dow'! Dow'! Dow'! Dow'!" he demanded. They were going to play and maybe he'd pet the kitty-boy.
Nara sighed, staring down at her son. "You need to make up your mind!" She said finally, "If I let you down, you're not climbing back up again," the woman warned as she gently set Zane down, un-wrapping a bit more of the leash to give him room. Carefully she faced the shelves, watching the boys anxiously out of the corners of her eyes.
Level with Jax (which was much easier than Jaxith), Zane paused again, watching the boy for a long moment before the temptation grew too much. Zane reached out for the boy's ears, intent on petting them. He did look an awfully lot like a kitty.

Jax eyed the leash curiously, nose screwing up the moment he saw it. What was that? Although in all honesty, it was something Tairi should have invested in herself. Her two little ones wandered about like crazy and had her pulling out her hair. He then looked back towards the boy it was actually attached to and was startled.
His eyes widened a bit as the boy reached out for him, his ears swiveling back. Due to his shock, the boy did get to pet his ears.. And since the other kid didn't mess up his hair, Jax didn't raise a fuss like he had planned. "Wha' you doin'?" He questioned, brow arching. He didn't really get this other kid yet. Nobody he had met had ever treated him like he was an actual cat up until now. His ears twitched now. "Gonna play?" He wasn't so sure. Were they gonna play or was this kid just gonna do stuff to his ears? Jax wasn't nearly as patient with boys as he had proven with girls.
