T'rus
] Name: T'rus Age: 18 Gender: Male Sexual Orientation: Homosexual Rank: Jr. Weyrling History:There are some children in life that just seem to attract bullying. Tarusen was one such. A small, awkward child, he never had much luck making friends, and usual found himself the target of verbal and physical attacks from the larger, more aggressive boys in Telgar. Weyrbrat that he was Tarusen never really was sure who his parents were. And, as children are wont to do, especially when they feel out of place or unwanted, he decided to shoot high. It had to be the Weyrleader. It just had to be. And if his father was the Weyrleader, well, it followed that he was going to impress a bronze of his own, and become a Weyrleader in turn, someday. Then, no one would pick on him. Then, he would have the power. With this 'noble' goal in mind Tarusen set about reinventing himself in the image of what he thought a Weyrleader should be. He observed people, learned how to be personable, how to be liked. He pushed himself harder at physical tasks, until he was able to defend himself in a fight. Hitting puberty helped there, as well. And then, one sun-drenched day after perhaps too much wrestling and general exertion, his best friend kissed him, and ruined everything. Because bronzes didn't pick men that did that. Everyone knew it. Tarusen's immediate reaction was to kiss back. His slightly less immediate reaction was to beat his once friend up, and proceed to do everything in his power to never see, let alone speak to him again. He avoided making 'best friends' after that. He indulged himself in girls. He knew the right things to say, or he could usually figure them out. He could flirt, he could seduce, and he got a reputation as a skilled and considerate, if not particularly passionate partner. Surely, enough girls, and he'd start to want them. Surely, enough girls, and he wouldn't ever think of the other possibility, and no one would know, and the dragons wouldn't know, and he would be Weyrleader, one day. Appearance: Tarusen considers himself a good looking guy. He's tall, and if he isn't as broad-shouldered or obviously muscular as he'd like to be, there at least isn't any hint of fat on him. He's lean and sun-bronzed, with blond highlights in his otherwise brown hair. His face is long, with nice, if not stunning features. Blue eyes, lashes that are bit longer and darker than he'd like. Thin lips that he can turn up into a very charming smile. At least, he's pretty sure it's charming. He's practiced it with that intent. Personality: Most people don't know Tarusen well enough to say what he's really like. On the surface he's the all around 'good guy'. He doesn't talk down to people, he has a compliment for everyone, and he seems to take a genuine interest when others are talking. And that's usually enough for him to avoid being on the bad side of most. Still, anyone who knows him for more than half a turn or so will begin to realize that other than surface, there's nothing there. Tarusen doesn't share secrets. He doesn't invite intimacy. He doesn't seek friendships that exist beyond a casual greeting or, if the girl is deemed attractive, a casual lay. He doesn't have goals or dreams that he mentions. He doesn't appear to get angry, but he doesn't appear to get more than mildly happy, either. Seething beneath that surface is a quick, ambitious and analytical mind. Tarusen doesn't see people as potential friends so much as potential allies. He analyzes, tries to find the best way to approach, forms a casual bond, and leaves it there for when he needs it. He's the first to offer to do a favor because he wants everyone to owe him favors, to rely on him, to think of him first when they think of the word 'dependable'.

BROWN AKERTH Akerth was colored by Kaelyndra
Personality
Akerth is very serious business. He does not like jokes, he does not like to joke, and he does not approve of anyone skipping out on their duties to have a little fun. The word procrastination is not in his dictionary; if there is a task to be done, it gets done that moment. What else could be more important?
As nice as a hardworking dragon may seem, Akerth takes the notion to extremes. He considers himself The Dragon to maintain order in the Weyr. The bronzes are too cocky to do anything properly, and the Golds are much too busy to be bothered with getting the ordinary citizen to work. That’s alright, though, because Akerth will do it for them. He is constantly prying into other people’s lives and giving them orders. His words are quick, short, and to the point and Akerth himself is much the same way.
That is to say, he’s quick and short. Akerth lacks far too much stamina to ever fly a Gold, and that seems to suit him just fine. He believes in flying those who His wants him to, but otherwise staying on the ground. Flights are simply too much fun and not enough real work. He would rather practice drills for Thread than waste time with ladies.
Speaking of ladies, watch out for his belief of male supremacy. Akerth believes that greens should do as they are told when they are told, even more so than he expects others to behave. He also does not believe in Golds taking flight in Wings or fighting Thread. They are born to raise clutches and risking themselves for some ‘daring notion’ when Thread is falling is simply not okay with him, and he will be the first to tell them so.
In regards to female riders, Akerth takes on the typical Telgar tactic of ignore it and it leaves. If he is in a position where ignoring them simply will not work, he turns instead to making sure they are always occupied. He is not indifferent to giving orders and chores to female riders constantly, and he finds those dragons that have Impressed to female riders to be the farthest down on the scale of Telgar hierarchy. He won’t be below treating them like children, because, in his mind, picking a female for Theirs was a childish and ill-thought-out act.Views on Clutchmates
This clutch may be one of the hardest working that Telgar will ever see if Akerth has his way. He'll constantly be nipping the stragglers on the heels (not necessarily literally), and overall making sure everyone does as they are told immediately.
He cares deeply for his clutchmates beyond a work ethic, and although many of them annoy him a great deal, they will always hold a bit of a place in his draconic heart above all other dragons at Telgar. Why Me?Not only is Tarusen everyone Akerth wanted in a rider, he is nearly everything Akerth needs in a rider. Akereth needed someone he could work with, he could trust, and that wouldn't get fickle feet when it came down to business.
Tarusen's outward personality will keep everyone charmed, or so Akerth thinks, and Tarusen's lack of close friendships will make it much easier for Akerth and His to get their job done. Tarusen's view on women, especially, made Akerth's choice final. It's doubtful that Tarusen will make Akerth give the women slack, but he can still be the "good cop" to Akereth's "bad cop".
Calm, emotionally balanced and analytical, Akerth could not have made a better companion if he had tried. Together, the two of them will keep Telgar in order, and with Tarusen's thoughtful mind and their paired neutral attitudes, perhaps they will end up doing much more for the dragons of Telgar than anyone could originally have guessed.
- -
Akereth is colored based off of the. . .
Canadian Lynx

Like many cats, the Canadian Lynx is a creature of the night. It generally hunts and lives its life in solitary, although it can sometimes be seen with other lynxes. They are larger than their bobcat cousins, and at least twice the size of a large, domestic houscat.
It is rare that they travel very far from trees, and they are found most prominently in the forests of Canada and Alaska although there are dense pockets of them scattered throughout northern America. Their diet normally consists of rodents, birds and other small game, and on rare occasions a deer.
As a hunter, they are bulky and quick. Their speed and agility in the moment allow them to catch prey, but their stamina is very poor.

Impression Dragonriders of Pern Shop No sooner had Tatleth found Hers than a deep, agitated hum filled the air. It shook the sand near it and the source became obvious as the Spicy Red Egg.
It continued even as the shell began to crack and wack into the Golden Stag Egg behind it.
From the Spicy Red Egg, emerged a brown, tail first. He was nothing special. Perhaps slightly larger than some other brown hatchlings, but when he shook the remnants of enclosure from his body and stood up proud, it was obvious there was a sense of maturity in him.
His strides were long and clumsy at first, but they quickly shortened and he was soon walking with purpose straight towards the small bronze that was wandering the sands.
He let out a harsh cry, his eyes whirling orange for a brief moment as he paused. Then, he moved the rest of the way towards the bronze, carefully moving between candidates as so not to hurt them, and bumped the bronze sharply in the rump with his forehead. Dragonriders of Pern Shop The bronze let out a startled squeal when he was bumped, clearly not having expected anything from the rest of his clutchmates. When he realized it was a brown of all colours he whirled to face his brother, growling low in his throat. How DARE he?! Size didn't seem to faze him – the brown was bigger than his metallic clutchmate – and his growls only intensified when the brown held his ground.
A hush fell over the crowd as the two dragons stared at each other, almost completely motionless. The memory of the Telgar greens was still fresh in many memories. What would these two dragons do? Would they fight? Would one go between? Then, the bronze slowly extended his wings and arches his back up. The silence was broken by a low growl. The bronze took one step towards the brown, tail lashing from side to side. The message is clear: back off.
For a moment it almost looked as though the brown wasn't going to back down. However with a final snap of his jaws the brown turned and headed back towards the clutch. The Weyr seemed to breathe a silent sigh of relief. It looked like the pair wouldn't fight, at least not yet.
Understandably, the bronze seemed quite pleased with himself. He turned his back on the brown and kicked stand in his direction, almost mocking him. Nobody was prepared for what the bronze did next, however. Stride still determined he marched up the stairs and into the Stands, hissing at all who came near him and snapping at those who didn’t get out of his way fast enough.
Where was this little bronze going?
Dragonriders of Pern Shop The brown picked his way among the eggs. He paused at a few, eyeing them and circling those that did not seem to pass his test.
It was when he reached the Grey Speckled Egg that he screeched. Nothing happened in response. Another screech echoed out, this time louder, and the brown's eyes turned to red.
In a flurry of motion, he leapt up onto the Grey Speckled Egg and began to pull the broken shell surrounding the green's leg with force. His claws worked into the cracks and he chipped and pulled until he had removed every last fragment and revealed a rather lifeless looking green.
Or, it only looked lifeless, but as it poked one eye open and gave a huff, if was clear that it was just not interested in moving. So, the brown simply grabbed it by the tail and drug it away from the shell, his eyes returning to a mellow blue.
There was a short squabble between them that was more noise than it was fight, and as the green got to her feet, the brown followed her, giving encouraging nips to her heels.
She made her way over to the boys and stopped. The brown waited nearby.
Slowly, she picked her way between them, her head cast to the ground and her tail swaying from side to side before she yawned and settled at the only female candidate that was in the male group.
Dragonriders of Pern Shop As the New Grass Egg rocked, the brown in the remaining clutch watched. The cracks fell away, and still he watched as a green stepped out, her body dark and her face light around her eyes.
She beamed. Anyone could tell as she marched out of her egg and looked around. Her head was raised high as she looked amongst the crowds of candidates. There seemed to be a lack of desire to rush into things, but this wasn't good enough for the brown who was no longer waiting.
He stalked over to the green, ready to encourage her to move, but the green was going to have none of that! She turned right around and snapped at him once, her teeth grazing his nose. For a moment, the brown was stunned and then he lifted himself up unto his haunches and spread out his wings.
He was demanding that she do as he asked and he followed her around the Golden Stag Egg, hissing low warnings from his throat when she paused for too long. Dragonriders of Pern Shop Hey! Hey! No fair! The little green squalled as her brother chased her around the Queen egg. Several times she stopped to check if he was still following her, but then skittered away when she heard his low hiss of warning. What a meanie!
On their second trip around the Golden Egg she finally made a break for the female candidates, not looking once over her shoulder as she ran. The brown took three steps after her and hissed, which only spurred the little green on.
Dragonriders of Pern Shop The sands had grown quiet with only two eggs remaining unhatched; one of them the golden egg everyone was looking to, and the other minute in comparison - on its side and well away from the large, gold egg.
Then there was the brown. He was still there, waiting and watching. There had not been a flinch from him when the green had left with Hers, and he had left her alone and all the others he had pestered.
Now, he walked away from the clutch of eggs and in-between the two lines of candidates.
His voice was strong as he announced to His only, Tarusen! I am tired of this dallying. It is time for me to eat. Come get Your Akerth.

As the brown left with His, it seemed to be in the nick of time. The splotlight finally taken from others on the sands, the Golden Stag Egg began to move, slow and strong. All eyes were no doubt on it now. It was time for the female candidates of Telgar Weyr to really hold their breath.
lithle It was like every other hatching Tarusen had ever attended, except, perhaps, the last one. The same anxiety, fluttering in his throat. The same need, the moment a bronze touched the sands. The same hope. Hope. This time. This one. This one would be his. Like everyone, he held his breath when the bronze and brown faced off. And when the bronze moved toward the stands... his gaze followed it. It was lost. It would come back. The clever brown would herd it toward the sands again. Herd it toward him. And he kept thinking it until the moment of it's attack on the girl. No. Not the right one. Not his. A Weyrleader's bronze didn't act like that. A Weyrleader's bronze had manners. His heart fell. Not his. Not meant for him. More waiting. His gaze returned to the clutch, watching with a sort of tired interest. It was exciting time, even if his dragon was not here. Out of curiousity, he found himself watch the brown. When it pulled the green from a motionless egg, when it seemed to pace about the clutch, watching, guiding. He'd never seen quite such actions from so young a dragon. He admired the orderliness of it. After the last hatching, it was nice to see this one go off so neatly. It was nice to see someone seeing to things. There was a leader, or there was chaos. There had to be a leader. When it chased a green around the queen egg, until the green impressed, he smiled despite his disappointment. There would be no dragons lost in this clutch. And then-- And then. Tarusen! I am tired of this dallying. It is time for me to eat. Come get Your Akerth. And it wasn't right. It couldn't be right. He was going to impress a bronze. He was... he was going to be the Weyrleader someday. He knew it. Knew it. But-- it was such an orderly mind, the one that pressed against his. So rational. So in control. And that, more than anything, was what Tarusen wanted, what he needed. Control. So that no one could control him. No one could hurt him. In chaos, there were casualties. But when there was a leader... And this... His... Akerth. Akerth was a leader. Akerth was the dragon that Tarusen had been waiting for. The one he'd imagined. The one he needed to create the order and safety he craved. He just... wasn't quite as bronze as he'd expected. Tarusen! Sharper this time, and Tarusen found he couldn't not move. He was all but marching at that forceful order, and he was, despite himself, smiling. Smiling with the sort of sincere affection and deep love that no one ever saw when he played the game of surface niceness. "Sorry, Akerth. We'll get you some food." He laid his hand against his dragon's neck, "You did well." They needed it.And they had. Tarusen believed it, even if the other hatchlings and their new riders might feel differently. Akerth had done what was necessary. As would Tarusen. As they would, together. And they would lead the Weyr, in their own way. Just not, maybe, in the way he'd expected. That, that would take some thought.

T'rus's Allies and Enemies Fellow Weyrlings
Cass and Green Vespereth No firm opinions as of yet.
K'lar and Green Tatleth No firm opinions as of yet.
Il'raz and Green Betteth No firm opinions as of yet.
Y'ul and Green Erath Attacking Sharkal indicates a shameful lack of self control. Something that might be expected from a female rider, though one would think she'd want to rise above the stereotype. I thought she might serve a purpose but am now reassessing that thought. Better not to associate with her. Anyway, Akerth and her dragon are best kept separate.
F'len and Blue Skananth No firm opinions as of yet.
N'ran and Blue Cavumuth Y'ul's comments about him were less than favorable and his dragon certainly made a bad impression, in the most literal of senses. Still, I have yet to have any real interaction with him.
Set'al and Bronze Pipith Not even searched and he impresses a Bronze. He'll find soon enough that there's more to being a rider than impression. The dragon is tiny. Pipith will never fly a queen and Set'al will never be Weyrleader.
Va'en and Bronze Morgath His dragon is a giant. He may very well have a shot at the Weyr someday. But Akerth derides Morgath as a useless flirt. Va'en seems friendly, but not in a way that inspires loyalty. I begin to question the entire foundation of the Weyr. What foolishness, to entrust leadership to whoever's dragon flies best.
Other Dragonriders
Jasrai and Green Roseth Despite their poor reputation, Roseth seemed pleasant enough and there is something to be said for a dragon with determination. Jasrai strikes me as cautious, but I think I made a decent impression. She'll struggle, as a woman on a Green. Maybe it is good for them, to have to prove themselves so. It is unappealing, of course, but if she flies well, who cares?
Non-riders Tofir I couldn't tell whether or not he liked me. He seemed to. He complimented Akerth, he listened when I spoke. Still, there's something uncomfortable about sharing so much with a stranger. Especially a stranger that seems to inspire trust. If I'm smart, I'll be cautious around him in the future.
Sharkal A bit of a fool and a weakling. But I feel-- bad for him. I don't like to see anyone treated like that. Y'ul was wrong to hit him. Besides, he has his useful side. And he is-- mine, I think. Though I do not trust his attachment to last beyond the next protector to present itself. Still, I would like to see him impress. I need riders that are already in my hand.

Akerth Passes Judgement Clutchmates
Green Vespereth Foolish and showy.
Green Tatleth Loud, but not willful. Impressed intelligently.
Green Betteth
Green Erath Lazy. Foolish. Defiant. Clever. Needs a firm hand.
Blue Skananth
Blue Cavumuth Made a fool of himself at the hatching. Likely to be a problem.
Bronze Pipith Can't see beyond himself and his rider.
Bronze Morgath Let him fawn over his little circle of greens. The rest of us will get some work done. I do not fear him.
Other Dragons
Humans
T'rus
Sharkal Mine is odd where you are concerned. He says you are useful. But he seems to like you more than most. I have not yet decided if this is a good thing. I will not see his vision clouded.

Captain A vile, temperamental little green that was a 'gift' from Y'ul. T'rus rather suspects that she knew the egg was trouble and wanted to get rid of it. Captain hates everyone but T'rus and Akerth. While she doesn't know any 'tricks' she is well trained, and will keep her actions contained to hissing from her perch on T'rus's shoulder most the time. But should anyone have the displeasure to meet her without Akerth and T'rus present, they certainly won't enjoy the experience.
