Late evening, a sharp chill in the air, and Tarusen stood near the Dragon Foot Springs not actually making use of the warm water, but perhaps stealing some sense of their heat just through nearness. His attention appeared to be on the distant sunset, that last fading bit of light, which he watched with a stillness that indicated his mind was likely miles away.
It wasn't a good place for thinking, not really. The springs were often in use, the riders and their dragons could be noisy at times. But when one was planning, was thinking of dragons, perhaps it was best to have the opportunity to see the object of ones consideration. But, without a bronze to stare at, the color in the sky would have to do.
A clutch of nasty greens had been the whole of the last group of eggs on the sands. His expression darkened a bit as he considered that. It couldn't, wouldn't happen again, of course. It was unthinkable.
A few finger rolls had accompanied him on his evening walk and he bit into one then, almost aggressively, mirroring the edge in his mood.

Tarusen was not far off at all with his estimation of the springs being crowded. It was a chilly night, and the bite had seeped its way into the halls of Telgar. Even in a cavern climate, where the temperature stayed the same all year round, the idea of the cold somehow finding its way in made Elaynia escape to the one place she knew it was warm all year round.
Unlike many of her companions, she was much too modest to enter the Springs without having some covering. It was a thin, dark bunch of fabric, but it did its job.
She caught the sight of someone walking and staring and she frowned. She recognized him! Closing her eyes for a moment, she dug around inside her mind and pulled out a name from the depths of storage.
"Tarusen!" she exclaimed with enthusiasm when she had caught on the precious gem. "Are you going to join us?" And by us, she meant the congregation of people she'd submerged herself between.
Their names were really only important for as long as she was in there company. Much like Tarusen's name.

Despite the crowd in the springs Tarusen had been, until the moment he heard his name, by himself. At least, so far as he was concerned. He'd been willing to let his mind wander, to not worry. Everyone had seemed fairly interested in their own affairs and it had lent him the feeling, if not the actuality, of isolation.
Now, with his name on the air, that had left him. He stood a little straighter, squared his shoulders, smiled. Minute changes, hardly noticeable in the fading light. Important in their own way, if only to Tarusen. If one was to play the part, it had to be played completely. It had to become more true than truth.
"Elaynia!" To hear him speak was to hear the voice of someone greeting a dear friend, and never mind that they were only passing acquaintances. He was good with names, voices, little tidbits of information. Big things were harder, but he could remember those trivial bits of nothing without trouble.
"Would you have me do so? Your friends might want to keep your lovely company all to themselves."
