HEADQUARTERS THE EASTERN HEADQUARTERS & A LABYRINTH UNDERGROUND.
MAIN HEADQUARTERS ➤ GADU THE EASTERN HEADQUARTERS & A LABYRINTH UNDERGROUND.
Located in the heart of Imisus near the city of Gadu, the Council of Sciences holds a large stone building located near the hustle and bustle of the Imisese life. With pointed-peak roofs and stone walls, the scientists' headquarters are large and extravagant, with romanesque elegance that combines the sanctity of a wealthy monastery with the opulence of a great university. Once entering the headquarters' large polished wooden doors, a view of the main building can be seen; a vast and winding structure with a dome roof in the center end of the large plaza, high and mighty and decorated with statues of magisters, including Trisica himself, of course. Once inside, the walls seem wider than they are outside; with spacious stone hallways and arches, open cloisters, and vaulted doors, every area seems to reflect the somber magnificence which the Council itself strives to affect upon its institutions.
While the Council presents itself to the Panymese government above ground, scientists are exclusively connected by a league of extensive underground catacombs, connected to surface-level houses through emergency exits and entrances-- a city, nearly-- of scientists intertwined throughout all of Imisus, the eastern region of Panymium. A city of personal laboratories, workplaces and information is held within the stone-carved paths of these underground trails; this extensive network makes it simple for any and all scientists across the region to quickly pass information and works to their fellow colleagues so long as they are within the reach of the network of tunnels. These catacombs secured by slates of dirt and stone are filled with pathways among pathways, and recently have begun to develop in parts of Mishkan and Auvinus.

DOCTOR SEDGWYCK KIRKALDY ; LEADER To the unwitting members of his party, it might seem as if the man has done nothing to help the Council of Sciences, his eyes carefully watching, but his actions say otherwise. Not much is known about Dr. Kirkaldy aside from his contributions to the scientific age, though it's obvious to many that that's all that matters of his life; like many in his field, every breath and thought is somehow connected to his work, whether or not he wants them to be. An esteemed thinker and scientist who clawed his way toward leadership not long before the time of the Black Death, politicians blame Kirkaldy for the death of Diefendorf. Stoic in nature, the scientist had little reaction to these claims that would later taint the minds of his entire party, and despite the gravity of the incident, Dr. Kirkaldy remains silent about the situation.
With thick, slanted brows and dark gray hair pulled back to a ponytail to show his wide widow's peak, Dr. Kirkaldy looks a stern man at first. His square face and sharp nose point with an air of sophistication and lackluster judgment of others, with his lips curled downward to a thick frown. Due to the nature of his workplace, the esteemed scientist has a pasty white complexion and eyes nearly always squinted. While his face, slyly extravagant and personality mark him as quite sharp, his body says otherwise; thin and wiry in every sense of the word, the man prefers to wear robe over robe to hide is meek build.
DOCTOR AMORY KEMPE. ; REPRESENTATIVE Doctor Amory Kempe is a long-time member of the Council of Scientists and staff at the august institution of Trisica University. One of the founders of the still-controversial and struggling field of psychology, Doctor Kempe has worked extensively with Plagues in hopes to bring recognition to his field. A friendly and hardworking man, Doctor Kempe comes from humble origins and doesn't have much truck with pretension, despite his high rank. He's interested in just about everything, and goes out of his way to get to know all his fellow scientists, a hopeless optimist in a pessimistic era. A new face in politics, if not the Council halls, it is easy to mistake Doctor Kempe's optimism for foolishness or a bluff, and many aspiring career men in the Council mutter about his rumoured associations with Kirkaldy and the mysterious retirement of the previous Representative just before his election to the post. Doctor Kempe stands strong in the face of such criticism, decidedly more interested in tackling the day to day affairs of the Council and the long term problem of finding the cure to the Black Death- preferably with the help of his own area of research.
Kempe is not an intimidating man, but is instead rather short and squat, with a round, cheerful face, messy hair, and a mostly brown wardrobe. He carries lavender on his person at all times, and sometimes carries lavender stunteds, who do small chores for him. He's somewhat clumsy due to his unusually small feet and unfortunate inclination to bustle rather than walk, but accepts his shortcomings with an unnatural dose of good cheer. His overall appearance serves to make him comfortable to confide in, if not a tad comical.

HISTORY A CENTURY AND RUNNING.
The youngest and exponentially growing in political influence, the Council of Sciences dons a league of young thinkers, scientists and scholars, of whom contribute to the welfare and health of the Panymese citizens. Born from the continent's mere lack of reasoning and swelling in number after the Black Plague came into fruition, the Council was founded by lead scientist Arthur Thomas, a patriotic Mishkanite, in June 25, 1301. Blossoming with potential, the Scientist faction soon moved their headquarters in May 1351 to Helios, where they worked directly under Emperor Rine VII. Twelve years later in 1363, the Council officially moved its headquarters to Imisus, not long before the civil dispute in Helios. Ever since then, the Eastern network of scientists have rapidly expanded in size, pushing their catacombs near neighboring regions not long before their move.
In 1399, the predicted time for the rise of the Black Death, the Council greeted a young scientist named Diefendorf into its numbers. Five years later the same scientist was accused of research misconduct and was hanged in the Imisus gallows in 1404 under the instruction of the Council's head Dean, Doctor Sedgwyck Kirkaldy.

ABOUT CURE YOUR PEOPLE.
TYPE OF ALLIANCE
Civil alliance. The Scientists are very much a faction that advocates order and reason, working for the common good of all people. However, an organization as large as the Council needs funding, and they obtain their sponsorships from wealthy and noble elite, as well as the government and the Panymisian Church, all of whom have a claim on their loyalty. The Council itself was founded through the Panymisian Church, and many of the wealthy elite support the Council by sending their sons to Trisica, meaning that much of the upper hierarchy of the Council are members of the nobility.
LIFESTYLE
While stereotypically considered to be a pretentious and stuffy lot, Scientists typically tend to be hardworking and practical, many of whom get their hands dirty for the sake of their studies. Well used to dissecting cadavers and the like, which are in no short supply in plague-ridden Panymium, Councilmen range from eloquent bibliophiles to gruff anatomists to cunning chemists and everything in between. Far and away the most flexible of the factions in terms of variety of disciplines, while the Council doesn't offer as much social mobility as Obscuvianism, even the most unlikely candidate can "make it" in their ranks with enough intelligence and perseverance, though it is still something of a boys' club. However, it is far easier to advance in the Council as of late if you are able to tie your research to Plagueology, and many scientists suddenly find themselves occupied with finding connections to the disease even the least relevant study, funding being a scarce and valuable resource. Those who are not fortunate enough to be able to secure enough funding from the Council must often resort to seeking patrons amongst the wealthy or else doing private tutoring or consultations. Councilmen are used to juggling many tasks and working long hours, and though many may come from luxurious backgrounds, none can afford to shirk responsibility when every day that the plague stalks Panymium is another reminder of their abysmal failure to provide the people with the cure that Diefendorf taunted them with on the gallows.
FACTION GOALS
The Scientists wish for a cure to the plague and to redeem their reputation after the execution of Diefendorf, though in reality most of them know that even if they do find a way to cure this illness "That Day" will live on as a huge black smear. The Council is the youngest of the factions in Panymium; if they can cure the plague that neither man nor god can prevent, their legitimacy will be certain, but this is a secondary concern to the faction leaders. Even if they are ambitious men, they are just men, and their primary concern is to end the plague for the survival of the people.
COMMUNITY
Aboveground, the Scientists work from a cushy collegiate setting in Gadu, the ornate Council Headquarters being attached to the equally ornate university which they are so closely affiliated with. Scientists in farther-flung outposts have to deal with a variety of different living conditions, from comfortable studies which match their social background to the spartan settings of a far-flung Shyregoedian research outpost. A Scientist's living situation is capable of fluctuating rapidly, and while he might count upon a wide variety of peers to work with in Gadu, he might find himself almost totally isolated in a smaller facility. Comfort, companionship, and convenience are all varied, but one thing that remains the same is that Scientists often opt to work in their catacombs, a vast and constantly expanding network of underground tunnels most heavily concentrated in Imisus, but also growing in the more developed areas of Mishkan and even some outposts in Auvinus (Shyregoed, due to the frequently frozen ground, is less obliging). The catacombs are meticulously clean, nothing like caverns in nature, and provide Scientists with an easy way to meet with each other and conduct private research in a clean and safe working environment. If an outbreak of plague hits a community, a Scientist can be fairly certain of his relative safety while he is isolated in the catacombs, and when the political tide is unfavourable, his research will be safer from unfriendly eyes. However, not every Scientist is a medical man, and for every pale, reclusive researcher who wastes away underground, there is a Scientist who prefers nothing better than a messy desk and ancient documents to pore over. The one thing that truly unites the Council is not any uniform ideal, but rather the intensive intellectual community which they find themselves steeped in. Even a Councilman stationed alone in the depths of the Shyregoedian wilderness can rely on the common threads of his degree and substantial education to tie him to his peers all over the continent.
IDEALS
Seek knowledge and improve Panymium. The Council is very much a reaction to the previously all-dominant role which magic played in Panymium, and thus despite its own pretensions, it is far more of a movement for the common man than anything else. It provides non-magic users with a way to change the world around them, and while it cannot always abide by the lofty goals it has set for itself, it puts more power in the hands of a wider group of people. Scientists work for society, and though many of them wouldn't know how to hold a conversation in a crowded room, they are movers and shakers of culture.
TRADITIONS
The Council is not old, but is still somewhat reliant on ceremony. Traditionally, the Dean will carry a staff, while Councilmen and Trisica teachers will wear robes with colours that accord to their discipline and status. Students are expected to attend Panymisian Mass once a day, and there is a special Mass said before exams begin, after which students traditionally offer a coin to Magister Trisica for good luck. Trisica is both the namesake of the Council's university and the patron of medicine, students, and scholars, while Magister Cillian of Aery Run is the patron of female scholars. If a Trisica student manages to graduate, by the grace of Panyma, they are given a diploma and a sash, the colour of which denotes the discipline they now specialize in and is to be worn with their robes.
BELIEFS
Scientists believe their method is the one of the future, the one that will lead the country into prosperity, and that they're the hope for Panymium. Some also are of the belief that Plagues can be used for good, prompting those scientists who are able to seek a Plague companion to study or work with. Scientists actively court Grimms, and Plagues are more widely tolerated in the Council than in any other faction besides Obscuvianism. Stunteds not only relay messages for some scientists, some of the stunteds in Gadu are even well-educated enough to substitute for sick lecturers in classes.

FACILITIES TRISICA UNIVERSITY, GRANTS, STUDIES, AND MENTORSHIPS.
You can only cure your people if you have the proper resources and funding. The bane of every scholar's peaceful pursuit of truth is the fact that they must have a means to support themselves. The Council offers institutions through which they can work, and some Councilmen have chosen to partner with each other in their research to increase their efficiency, while wealthy nobles and merchants may offer support to certain types of researcher who pursue what aligns with their patrons' interests. How will you conduct your studies?
TRISICA UNIVERSITY The only university in Panymium, Trisica is closely affiliated with the Council, and many of its graduates go on to become Councilmen, just as many Councilmen teach lectures in its halls. Trisica University is attached to Council headquarters in Gadu, and the funding that the school earns by teaching the wealthy elite pours back into scholarships and research funding for the Council's own endeavours. Even the Council Representative and Sir Erasmus teach at the university, and it provides a forum for researchers and to share ideas with their peers and with the future scientists amongst the ranks of their students.[READ]
COUNCIL BASES Those who opt not to stay in Gadu will find a plethora of Council outposts to research in throughout Panymium. From seminaries in Helios and Auvinus to tiny Shyregoedian outposts to the elusive and secret research base in Mishkan, there is a base for every type of Councilman.[READ]

OWNER-MADE GRANTS, STUDIES, AND MENTORSHIPS _____________________________________________
PSYCHOLOGYmentorship The Council Representative, Dr. Amory Kempe, is a lecturer in Philosophy, but as everyone who meets him knows, he is busily developing a branch of study quite unheard of before, the study of the mind. While he is more than busy in his new position, it's rumoured that if you speak to him about extracurriculars, you'll be given a type of education not offered by any Trisica program. A few of his students have begun to make their names in the fledgling field. Will you be one of them, or will you throw your lot in with a discipline you can get a degree in?[READ]
