The past few days had been rather dull, and almost frustrating. At least for Michael that is. Work had been relatively rough with the hours, and he hadn’t been getting anywhere with cracking this one program at home. So things were seemingly starting to go into a slump for the young adult in general.
With a light sigh, he let out a long stream of smoke from his lips as he stared at the screen of his computer. He wasn’t so sure why, but he just couldn’t get the code to work. Several things had been tried, but none of them fixed anything apparently. Though, it may just be his tired eyes being unable to pinpoint the exact problem in the wall of text that acted as a script for what he was attempting to do.
Maybe I should just sleep on it tonight… he thought while looking at the time. By now it was well past midnight, and he really wasn’t getting anywhere with his current project.
He let out a yawn and snuffed out his cigarette before sending his computer to standby and slowly getting up from his chair. Maybe tomorrow he’d be able to tackle things more efficiently, especially since he had a day off for once. That, as well as the prospect of getting to sleep in for awhile all seemed pretty nice to him.
Though, before he could reach his bedroom, a light knock could be heard from his door. Michael froze at the sound, as he really didn’t know who would be at his apartment at this time of the day. He waited a few seconds, and there were no other sounds coming from the hall. But just to be sure, he slowly made his way to the door, wary of who may be on the other side. A glance through the peephole showed no one out there, which made him a little more creeped out.
… Why do I get the feeling like I’m in some sort of horror movie…?
Shuddering at that thought, he carefully began to open the door, half expecting some zombified killer standing there with a chain saw to cut him in half. It didn’t help that he couldn’t stop thinking about how many characters were killed by doing something like this. Luckily for him, there was no one in the hallway when he managed to get the door open. Instead, there was a box on the ground.
Huh? What’s this..?
Another moment or so went by, and Michael couldn’t see anyone anywhere within the hall. Not really sure what this strange package was, he picked it up and tried to find any sort of labeling. There were none whatsoever, aside from a sticker that said “fragile, handle with care”. The man frowned at this, and he began to wonder if he had fallen asleep at the computer and was dreaming now.
For awhile, he wasn’t sure if he should go ahead and open the thing. There really was no telling what was inside. But who would want to do him harm anyway? Well, he supposed if a few people had a grudge of sorts against “Razx” and found out who’s behind the screen name some how. That was highly unlikely though. After a bit of thought, he went ahead and placed the package onto the counter and opened it up.
It’s… an egg?
The contents of the box were a bit bewildering, being a large egg with what looked like mini wings sticking out of it. When he reached down to touch it, it was rather warm to feel. And now more than ever did he really think he was dreaming. Since eggs like this couldn’t possibly exist. At least that’s what he thought. Hesitating somewhat as he really wasn’t sure what this thing was, he reached into the box and brought the egg out. Over all, it was dark red, with some fire-like markings of sorts towards its bottom. And if the wings weren’t odd enough, the whole thing had some strange reddish cloud substance surrounding the base.
… What the hell is this?

The next morning, Michael found that the events late last night were no dream after all. When he stepped out of his room, the box remained on the kitchen counter. And in it remained the strange egg. He was really unsure of all of this, as he took the egg back out and checked to see if anything else was in the box. There were no labels, so maybe whoever had sent this package would have left a note or something inside.
No such luck there.
So then, he brought the egg with him to his computer, setting it down on a nearby chair. At this point, he figured it was just some strange decorative item. Even so, it was pretty odd, and something about it just seemed off.
Either way, he wanted to know more about it. Forget the code he planned to work on earlier; his curiosity was taking priorities here. And because it was the easiest source to check, Michael brought up Google and began his investigation there. As he did this, he brought up one of his messengers and signed on as well.
Razx: hey, you there? lif3h4x: something up? Razx: yeah. I need some info on this thing I found. You got some spare time? lif3h4x: Heh. when do i never have it? Razx: right, thx. see what you can dig up on an ostrich sized egg with bat wings. Razx: that sits on clouds. lif3h4x: ... r you shitting me? you fond something like that? u high or something?
Sighing, Michael glanced to the side at the egg. He didn't do drugs, so he was pretty certain he wasn't high or anything like that. Unless smoking cigarettes somehow induced hallucinations now. Though, in a way, he kind of wished it were that case. It'd at least mean he wasn't going crazy. So, shaking his head, he replied to his online contact.
Razx: Yeah. I know it sounds crazy but believe me. Razx: It also has a flame like marking on it. dunno if that's any help. but i'd appreciate if you could figure something out on it lif3h4x: eh. alright man. lif3h4x: ill let you knwo if I find anything
He went ahead and contacted a handful of others with the same thing. Michael wasn't really sure how much help they'll be, or even if any of them will actually look. But he figured it couldn't hurt to ask in any case.
One thing was for certain though. His own attempts to search through Google and the internet in general weren't coming up with a whole lot at first. Which meant that this thing, whatever it was, would need deeper digging to get any useful information. It didn't really help much that he wasn't even sure where to start in terms of where or what to search.
Deciding that it would be best to examine the egg once again, he reached out and took it into his hands. As he looked it over, his dark brown eyes soon widened as he both felt and saw something happen. The wings had twitched, and he could have sworn he felt something shift inside.
Whatever it was, it definitely was alive.

Everything about Chath's egg is still a mystery, considering it doesn't seem to do much except flutter every now and then and something moves inside when touched. It's time for whatever is inside to come out though, as waiting is getting a little too long, so what can be used to crack that egg apart without hurting whoever is inside?

As time went by, Michael didn't see a whole lot of progress coming from the egg. By now, he had come up with a name for the egg's contents; Chath. It sounded good to him at least, though if the one inside the egg turned out to be a girl, he was probably going to need to find a more feminine name to use.
One day, he held onto the egg as he sat at his computer, examining it some and wondering how much longer it'd be before it hatches. Not that he was excited to have a kid around, but he figured just as with any other sort of egg, it wasn't really a good thing for it to stay in the shell for too long. And he was starting to wonder if Chath needed any help on getting out. It was a little hard to say, especially since his online contacts hadn't found a whole lot of information for him.
Though... with birds, it isn't good to help them hatch..
With that in mind, he was a bit reluctant to try anything, but he also had to remember that the one inside the egg wasn't exactly a bird.
Then again... birds and reptiles have a little spike usually to help them out... how would a human-like being start cracking the egg?
The shell did seem pretty thick, possibly as thick as that of an ostrich egg. Would Chath or anyone else really be able to get out of it alone? The more he thought about it, the more he felt like he should be trying to crack the egg. Though, as he stared down at it, he wasn't so sure how he could go about that without hurting the one inside.
Looking around the rather messy area, he wondered what he could use that may help. Powertools were a definite nono, as were any other tools really. Maybe he could use a spoon or something similar though. Whenever people used an egg cup it seemed like they used their spoon to start cracking the thing. Figuring that he'd try something to that extent, he gently placed the shifting egg in the nearest chair.
From there he grabbed, not a spoon, but a plastic spork. The reason was simply because he happened to have one laying on his desk at the time. He wasn't so sure if it'd do much since it was made out of plastic, but he tried tapping the top of the egg with it. And as he suspected, it did nothing but make a light tapping sound. So he set the spork down and grabbed something that was a little more dense. It was his pocket knife.
Michael kept the blade sheathed, so he just tapped the egg lightly with the handle a few times. He didn't want to smack Chath too hard to the point where he'd smash the egg, but he found that wasn't really needed. There was a light cracking noise after his third hit, and as a result the wings twitched and the egg shifted in place. Watching the egg, he hit it lightly once more.
As soon as he did this, the egg began to crack open on its own. It seemed from there his help was no longer needed.

Soon after Chath came into the world, Michael discovered just how quickly the Ashe would grow. Barely a week had gone by and the boy was already walking and talking! It was a bit mind boggling really, though considering everything, he probably should expect things to not be 'normal' anyway.
It was probably a good thing, the boy grew quickly too, seeing how Michael knew next to nothing about raising a kid. Sure he had looked up some information but he was in not truly prepared to take on all that responsibility. He didn't know what to do with him really. And it didn't help that Chath was a bit mischievous, from what he could tell. Over all it was just hard for him to connect with the kid, which didn't make things any easier.
One night, Michael decided to try and relax and take his mind off of things with a little gaming. He had the volume down, to try and make sure he wouldn't wake up Chath. It didn't work. Not long after he had gotten past the start menu, the boy came walking up with sleepy eyes and asked what he was doing.
The older of the two explained what it was, and Chath took interest, wanting to play as well. Michael didn't know why he hadn't thought of it earlier; possibly because he was too busy freaking out about how he was going to raise a kid. That and Chath hadn't really asked about the game systems before then. It was rather relieving too, that the boy seemed to pick up on how to play the game fairly quickly and was enjoying it quite a bit.
The two spent a little too long playing the game, as it ended up making Michael be late for work the next day since he slept in. But it was worth it, he believed. Now he had something he could connect to Chath with; as well as give the boy something to do now and then.

C biggrin ocuments and Settings/Razx/My Documents/The_Hacker_and_the_Troll
The soft glow of the monitor's light reflected off of Chath's face as he snickered and grinned like a devil. Just by looking at him one could tell he really was up to no good. Which is exactly why Michael became rather suspicious when he saw the boy at the computer like that.
"..What are you doing Chath?" he asked while coming around to see what exactly the red head was up to.
Jumping as he was taken by surprise, Chath's grin disappeared in a flash. All in all, he looked much like a deer in headlights for a moment there.
"Oh nothing!" he replied while trying to move so that the screen's view was obscured. This really didn't convince his guardian at all who just gave him a raised eyebrow before peeking over his shoulder.
At first glance it just appeared as if the boy was replying to a thread in some forum. Though, between reading what Chath was about to submit, and the rather angry posts seen through the topic review, it wasn't too hard to guess what was going on here.
"Trolling again, Chath?" he asked with a sigh. Quite frankly he wasn't sure what to do about this. It was bad enough that he didn't know much of how to raise a kid. That and the fact that he couldn't really think up of a way to explain why he shouldn't go around trolling forums. There technically wasn't anything wrong with it..
"It's really not nice to mess with people like that you know."
"I know... Chath started as he lowered his head. There was a pause before he looked back up with that mischievous spark in his fiery eyes, "But the way people react is just so funny! A lot of the times they get all serious and stuff about pixels or whatever too."
He did have a point there. A lot of people on the internet had a tendency to blow things out of proportions. Sometimes, they deserved to have a troll sent out at them too. Trolls were generally easy to deal with too; they just need to be ignored for the most part. Michael shook his head to himself on that thought.
"Though, what would you do if someone was trolling about something you like? I can't imagine you like that a whole lot."
"Hmmm... I dunno. If the guy is funny I might just sit back and watch. Or jump into a flame war. I've always been the one doing the trolling so I don't really know how I'd feel actually.." mused the boy who seemed a little stumped. Generally when on a forum, if he wasn't trolling he was simply lurking and looking up various things at places he didn't cause havoc. He had seen other people trolling some areas, but he never really cared much about those aside from getting a kick out of what he witnessed. All in all, it was a little hard for him to fathom what it would be like to be one of the riled up people at the moment.
"That's something to think about then. As they say.. treat others the way you want to be treated," said Michael while giving the boy a light pat on the shoulder. He wasn't sure but it seemed that Chath might be a little more considerate of his actions online now. Hopefully he'll grow out of this trolling phase soon too.
The guardian was just glad that it seemed that Chath didn't like to mess with people the way he does online, offline as well.
