Sebastian frowned, raising a hand to rub under his chin lightly as he considered the question. "I don't know... maybe? There seemed to be quite a few who were sick...," He hadn't really considered that to be honest and felt a little uneasy at the prospect. He glanced between Gin and Rummy to check them; they seemed okay at the moment, though with the way Jay returned his own pokemon, Sebastian felt he should do the same. Of course... pokemon were pretty damn resilient, what was a little cold?
"I'm sure it'll be alright." He remarked, continuing to walk along the pat in the direction of the supposed motel. He gave a little bit of a nod though in response to Jay's remark, glancing around briefly. "That's... a good point to be honest. Any kind of chill would certainly make it worse." And being next to the ocean? Ya, that was a sure fire chance of getting sick or becoming sicker. Hopefully the hotel place would have some vacancies...
And it seemed like it did... terribly so. Sebastian's head tilted in confusion at the sight of the building; it was dilapidated or anything but it certainly felt... abandoned? He had to set Gin down again just to check and make sure, double checking the worn sign as well. "Uhm well... I think this is it." He finally commented with as much of an assured tone as he could, putting the book back and picking Gin up once more before moving forward and opening the door to step inside. The lightning was rather dim and he had to squint against it as he maneuvered towards what he assumed to be the front desk counter. There didn't appear to be anyone behind it at the moment. Sebastian spotted a desk bell, reaching out and giving it a gentle smack for the thing to ring once, the chime echoing through the walls. The man frowned; the place seemed deserted and yet... not?
"Huh... not the liveliest of hotels I've ever been in." Sebastian remarked half to himself and half out loud, turning and studying the place a bit as they waited. Maybe it was some kind of new fancy self service kind of place? Or maybe they were a location for those haunted houses from earlier... certainly had a bit of that grim feel to it.

Okay yeah well thatwas comforting. Jay pressed his lips together when Sebastian remarked that there seemed to have been a substantial amount of pokemon sick back at the pokecenter. Now he was almost glad they weren't staying there, but he was still slightly concerned about his pokemon's safety. Hopefully this motel had proper heating so that they could all at least be warm for the night. If there was something going around, he would want to make sure to do whatever he could to keep him and his pokemon healthy. Maybe there would be some immune boosters at the pokecenter that they could get, once it was a little less... sardine-package-like.
He was enough in thought about it that he didn't really comment when Sebastian admitted that he had a good point about camping outside. Some part of him acknowledged that he should probably be a bit concerned that Sebastian didn't appear to have thought about that himself, but his concerns were a bit too preoccupied with this whole virus business. Not to mention, he knew Sebastian's suggestion hadn't been entirely serious in the first place. There was no point getting riled up if the man hadn't seriously been considering doing that, without thinking of the possible repercussions.
Lifting his head up as Sebastian announced their arrival, Jay listened. His milky eyes stared blindly to the side as he turned his head, catching the echo from Zoey's squeaks as they bounced off the building. A frown crossed his face, and he nodded. It sounded fairly sizable, at least. "Sounds good," he replied, nodding. And he meant that in the most literal sense, but the figurative, typical way worked too. He followed Sebastian in, turning his head this way and that to listen as Zoey lifted off his shoulder and fluttered around his head, sending off sounds to give him a proper impression of the room. It sounded so... empty. The whole building did. It had that strange feeling, too. Like it was void of people, but... not unoccupied. He wasn't really sure how to feel about that...
He straightened as he heard footsteps from the back (he hadn't heard anything before, though), and a woman in her mid or late forties emerged, dark brown hair pulled into a high up, tight bun, emerald green eyes quickly finding the two young men. "Hello," she greeted quite comfortably, smiling an almost knowing smile at them, "Did you two need a room?""Rooms, but yes ma'am," Jay replied, keeping his head slightly bowed but standing straight as he addressed her, "Pok'center's all filled up." Her smile seemed to grow just a bit more, and her eyelids lowered. "I felt it might. Unfortunately, our power is out at the moment," she said, and gestured up to the very dim, flickering light bulb over head, "These few lighting this room are only kept lit so that people may know we are, in fact, open, and we're only able to do that with the help of some of the pokemon that help me out here at the motel. However, we have plenty of rooms available, if you're still interested."
Jay frowned a bit. "There uh way to stay warm?" he asked, sounding more than a bit dubious. "Oh, of course," she replied in that same calm, nonchalant voice, "Each room has a fire place, which provides more than enough heat to keep them warm." Shifting his weight, Jay bowed his head more, thinking about it. She turned her gaze to Sebastian, looking between them before speaking up again. "I'm sure I can provide you with lighting to help you get around of course, too," she added.

Sebastian had been so focused on figuring out exactly what one of the faded paintings on the wall was supposed to be that he hadn't heard the woman appear until she spoke. His head snapped back to the counter in surprise, blinking and staring a moment at the woman before his head shook a bit.
"Ah hello!" He remarked back, glancing as Jay spoke up about them needing rooms, his own head bobbing in agreement. He shifted Gin in his arms a bit as she spoke, the Whimsicott falling quiet to watch the lady curiously. Rummy was still at his heels, hovering close to his leg in a reminiscent fashion much like Spade did, the Leafeon's ears drooped back slightly as he scanned the dank place.
Listening quietly as the woman spoke, he couldn't help the slight frown that crossed his face. The lights were out? Well that was a bit... of a bummer. He glanced at the woman, an eyebrow quirking as she mentioned there were at least fire places in the rooms. Well that made it a bit better. Sebastian also had quite a few pokemon he could rely on for some extra heat. Though that probably meant no showers... unless he wanted to freeze to death.
"Well, it's certainly better than nothing, wouldn't you say?" He glanced at Jay as he spoke, making a semi-attempt at a reassuring tone in the process as he smiled at the woman. "I'd be happy to get a room, if you please ma'am." At the mention of being provided light, his smile contorted a bit, eyes giving a bit of an awkward side glance at Jay before he refocused them forward. He cleared his throat a moment, head tilting as he gave a grateful smile. "Uhm, sure. It'd be greatly appreciated." Well... he certainly could use the benefit of light. He ... couldn't really speak for Jay on that though now could he?

Jay seemed to catch on to Sebastian's glance even though he clearly couldn't be even possibly aware of it, and raised an eyebrow. Or maybe he was just skeptical of the man's optimism overall, it was hard to tell. Either way, he stayed a little quiet on the subject, before finally bowing his head a bit and giving a slight adjustment of his hat. "Yeah, ah'll... ah'll take 'un too," he muttered begrudgingly. He didn't mean to be impolite, but... there was just something weird here. "Don' really need thuh lamp, though. Ah--"
Before he could continue to decline, Mimey suddenly popped out of her pokeball, flying forward and landing on one of the two lamps that the woman had pulled out. She blinked, looking down at the psychic pokemon in slight surprise, but then smiled. Jay, on the other hand, frowned. 'Wait Jay! Take the lamp!' she urged, clinging to it as she looked back at him. Jay's brow furrowed. "Why? Ah can't--"'I know! But not all of us can see in the dark, and I wanna look around!' she replied eagerly. Jacque gave a hard sigh, but waved a hand. "Fine," he muttered, stepping forward to pay. They could just use Sebastian's lamp, but... whatever. Maybe Mimey wanted to do some exploring on her own.
The woman nodded, smiling as she handed the lamps over and quickly processed the payments, then handing them each a set of silver, antique keys. "Here you go," she offered, "Your rooms are on the top floor."

Sebastian tilted his head a bit, keeping the partial smile on his face as Jay eventually agreed to getting a room for himself as well. His tone didn't exactly sound enthusiastic though, a fact that the older man noted but kept quiet on for now. After all, it wouldn't quite do to give the woman the wrong impression about the offered hospitality. At least not at the moment. He offered up the appropriate tender for his own room, taking a moment to eye the offered lamps a moment. They were... simple looking lanterns actually and reminded him a bit of home. They had a vaguely familiar sense about them in fact, though Mimey's sudden appearance broke his train of thought and left him unable to find it.
With a smile and a bit of a bow, he took both lamp and key. "Thank you very' much ma'am." He remarked, looking the thing over once more before handing it to Gin to hold. The Whimsicott grasped the strange lamp tightly, both her and Rummy staring at it inquisitively while their trainer spoke. With that all said and done, Sebastian took a step back from the counter, glancing at Jay with a shrug of a shoulder. "Let's go find the rooms then, hm?" He remarked with a chipper tone, pausing only a moment to glance around. He looked back at the woman curiously. "Ah, where are the stairs if you don't mind?" If the power was out then that probably meant the elevators, if there were any, weren't working. Not that the place seemed all that tall, but you never knew. Once they'd been directed he thanked her and proceeded on in the indicated direction, making his way up the stairs once they arrived.
"She seemed nice." Sebastian remarked lightly, squinting a bit against the dimness as they headed up. It was hard to imagine a building could be so dark. "Though these lamps are a little odd."
Sebastian received Paper Lantern (Halloween Event))

Jay gave a polite nod to the woman as well, taking Mimey, and the lantern, into his arms, once he reached out and found them. He turned to follow just behind Sebastian, feeling a bit like a dog at the heel of its person, and helped the Mime Jr onto his shoulder. He shifted his hold on the lantern to hang it by his side, heading around the corner like the woman instructed them to. He turned his head, listening as Zoey's squeaks echoed about the empty hallway, and up and down the tall staircase leading up to the second floor, which wasn't quite yet visible (though he could hear about how far it was).
"S'pose, but ah still sorta wish we coulda stayed at thuh pok'center," he remarked, "There's jus' somethin' 'bout this place that's kinda... gettin' ta me." He shook his head a bit. "But ah'd rather be hear'n packed in there, ah s'pose. Ya happen ta tell whether there're numbers on the keys 'r somethin'? So's we know which rooms're ours?" He could feel some designs on the keys, but he couldn't make out the numbers from the other, more aesthetic features, and contrary to what some might think, feeling out letters was not the same as reading brail, even if he could find them.

Sebastian gave Jay a sympathetic glance; it was hard to remember at times that Jay couldn't see such gestures in the first place. But with how dim it was in the first place, it would've probably gone unnoticed even then. "I can understand that. Familiar is often better." And well, all pokemon centers seemed practically the same. Maybe once in a while, they'd be a bit more spacious than another but beyond, everything was pretty standard and recognizable. He had to imagine that made things... easier? Still, he had to nod in agreement. Here was better than smashed in between other trainers and potentially sick pokemon.
"I'm sure it'll feel far more cozy and comfy once we get to the rooms and start the fireplaces up." He remarked. Fireplaces made everything better! At the mention of what the room numbers were though, Sebastian stopped. Right, that was a thing. With a bit of a frown he squinted at his own key, one thumb rubbing over the etchings in the metal. It was hard to tell against the dimness; the engravings seemed rather worn with time. "I think... mine is ... a 16 or something?" Still squinting he gave a bit of a nod. He had half a mind to light the lantern for a better look, but seeing as how it was the only one the woman had given them and the rooms were bound to be dark, he didn't want to waste it. He started moving again up the stairs, giving a little shrug. "I'm sure yours is right nearby if I'm right. There doesn't seem to be anyone else here besides us after all." Odd really, given the packed state of the pokemon center. It wouldn't have been unusual in his mind to see others seeking out an alternate means of shelter and ending up here as well. The lack of others was... eerie in a way.
It wasn't much better on the second floor, with Sebastian still squinting against even dimmer and now more flickery lighting. There truly was a limit to pokemon power apparently, with only the lights at the top of the stairs being lit befure the rest of the hallway seemed to fade to black. He paused, waiting for Jay to get his footing. "Here, I can check your key real quick if you want." He offered, partially extending a free hand back towards the other man. Just because he figured one thing didn't make it right and it was probably better to check while there was still a semblance of light.

Jay nodded. Boy was that right. Familiar was pretty much always better, at least when he wasn't feeling like exploring. And "I'm ready for bed" was not when he felt like exploring. If Mimey still wanted to look around she could, but... his mind was mostly on getting up the stairs, finding their room, and letting Mary Lee light them a fire.
He turned his head when Sebastian practically echoed these thoughts and smiled, shifting his focus back to the echoes of the hallway. "Yeah, ahm lookin' forward t'it. S'pecially with them plans fer t'morra 'n all," he mused. It would probably be a busy day, what with all the contest stuff they would have to try and do, but hopefully, even with Crystal, they could enjoy it. Maybe they would even figure out what to do with Rummy...
Tiredly entertaining that thought, Jay tried to refocus on Sebastian's response. "Makes sense... It'd be weird if she stuck us at opposite ends've the halls..." he remarked, raising a fist to his mouth as he yawned. He rubbed the back of his neck, putting admittedly a bit more weight into his step as he kept pace with Sebastian. He raised his eyebrows, though, as he offered to read his key, and almost immediately held it out for him. "Sure, thanks," he replied appreciatively, "Echoes ain't no good fer little things like that." He offered a modest but grateful smile, placing his hands in his pockets while he let Sebastian look over the key. He didn't really like to have to rely on others like this, but, well... it was either Sebs or Mimey.

Sebastian smiled, nodding in agreement as he took the key from Jay. "Same here! I can't really wait to see all the contest stuff in action. I bet it's amazing." He remarked thoughtfully. He'd have to be doing some thinking for Rummy if he could and maybe consider who else he'd have try contests in the long run. There were quite a few after all, it was probably best to figure out which of his other pokemon might be interested if any.
Taking a moment to squint and feel, the older man eventually figured out the supposed room number of his companion. "Hm... I think... it's a 19." He glanced up and started scanning the doors for numbers. They seemed to go from one end to another, with the tens starting right about where the stairs were and continuing on. "I think it's over this way." And with that he started moving again, doing his best to keep track of the doors as they did. He found his own room soon enough and made note, moving down a couple of doors until he found what was Jay's room.
"Here you go, I believe..." He paused at the door, opting to test the key to see. The lock 'clicked' and the door pushed open a bit, resulting in a grin from him as he glanced back at Jay. "Yup! There we go, it's the right one." He beamed a bit, retrieving the key and handing it back to the cowboy for safe keeping. "Alright, I'll see you in the morning then, Jay. Sleep well!" Sebastian glanced from Zoey to Mimey as well. "You all make sure to get some rest too." He remarked, stepping back in the direction of his room, with a bit of a wave. Rummy gave a chirp of his own, Gin wiggling and watching curiously at the parting of ways, the lamp still in-between her little hands. She was still surprised at how dark it was... it was almost like that haunted house.

Jay managed to give what looked like sincere side smile to Sebastian's enthusiasm. He couldn't think of anything to say, though. Interesting as the contest business seemed, he just... couldn't appreciate pretty much the whole aspect of it. Maybe he'd be able to help with the whole cooking thing, though. He wasn't the most excellent chef, but he was decent, and he was sure he could probably figure out how to make these poffin pokeblock thingies, once someone explained it to him.
Shaking off the thought, he quirked a smile as Sebastian managed to apparently read his key. "'A' nineteen, huh...?" he repeated, unable to help but poke fun a bit at his wording. Not nineteen, but a nineteen. It was funny wording, for him. He moved to follow, though, listening and trying to ignore the uneasy feeling creeping through him. When he heard Sebastian's footsteps come to a halt, he stopped, lifting his head and turning slightly, reaching a hand out to feel the door frame. He heard the click and felt the door move away from his fingers, and stepped forward a bit, holding his other hand out with a slight smile. "Thanks, Sebastian," he replied gratefully, taking the key when it was handed to him. There was the slightest discomfort at having to accept so much help from his travel companion, but... he brushed it away. He could have done this, if he'd needed to, and it wasn't like Sebastian was coddling him. He was just helping.
He gave a nod, taking a step towards the door. "Thanks, yew too. Ah'll see ya in the mornin'. Take care, Rummy, Gin," he added, giving a blind tip of his hat as he moved into the bedroom. He waited to make sure Mimey was in, while Zoey fluttered off his shoulder, giving a squeak to Sebastian to say good night, and then flying off. Once they were all in, and he'd bid final good night to Sebastian, he closed the door, sighing and pulling his hat off to run a hand through his hair.

With a final nod and wave to Jay and his crew, Sebastian made his way back to his own room with Gin in his arms and Rummy at his heels. It took a little maneuvering, but he managed to get his own key in the lock and the door unlocked to enter into his own temporary place of residence. Where it was the slightest of dim dark in the hall, it was pretty much pitch black in the room. For the briefest of moments he wondered if this was the kind of thing Jay dealt with every day of his life. Cautiously, he moved forward and into the room, one hand pressed against the wall to get an idea of his bearings. Rummy was still close to his heels, he could feel the little Leafeon’s body pressing closer now, seeming to be purposely pressing close as they entered.
Eventually, he found his way to the bed, taking a seat on the edge and setting Gin down next to him. He fished about on his belt for a moment, retrieving and releasing Naps from his pokeball. He was grateful to see that the Typhlosion was awake with flames going to light the dimmed room. Sebastian took a moment to survey the room; it was decent in size, with a bed, a small desk and chair off in the corner and a dresser with a lamp on top of it. There were two doors two, a closet and a bathroom most likely and worth noting. There was also the fire place, which was exactly what he needed; it was kind of chilly after all.
"Naps, can you light the fire place please?" He asked, receiving the standard squeak in response before the pokemon launched a nice stream of fire onto the logs. Sebastian gave a sigh of relief as the room became illuminated, a grin crossing his face as he gave the pokemon a gentle pat on the head. "Thanks, I appreciate it." Naps gave a squeak of triumph, shuffling over and taking a lay down next to the fireplace. Sebastian let him, deciding it was alright for his starter to be out for a bit. In the meantime though, he needed to clean up a bit. He still had sand and salt to deal with.

Once the room was nice and warm, Sebastian set about getting himself ready for bed. As much as he would’ve liked to take a quick shower, the fact that the power wasn’t working put him against it. Even if the water was still functioning, the fact remained that it was dark and that was ultimately not the safest thing to go doing in an unfamiliar place. He’d just make do with what he had. He yanked off his shoes and set them aside, pulling his gloves off and chucking them onto the small desk table. He made a bit of a face at the feel of the sand grains that’d made their way into them from digging Gin out the sand.
"Blegh…," He murmured, swatting them together before fishing around in his bag for a brush. Standing he made his way for the two doors, locating the bathroom. Unfortunately, the flames from the fireplace didn’t quite reach to illuminate it and so with a frown he glanced back to Gin and Rummy, who had found his way onto the bed as well. The Whimsicott was still holding tight to that paper lantern the woman had been kind enough to give them, which gave him an idea.
"Come on Gin, let’s get cleaned up." She was coated in her own bit of sand after all. She gave a little ‘Whimsi!’ in response to this, wiggling and handing the lantern over as Sebastian picked her up. He held it out a moment, giving Naps a light nudge with his foot. "Hey Naps, can you light this for me?" The Typhlosion raised his head, eyeing the lantern curiously a moment before giving a little squeak and huffing the lightest of flame to light the wick inside. Sebastian smiled and nodded, eyeing the eerie dimness of the light produced by the lantern a moment. It was… familiar for some reason. He couldn’t quite place it. With a shrug he headed into the bathroom with Gin in tow to wash them both up a bit.
He found the sink with little issue and after giving Gin a bit of a rinse down to free her of some of the sand, washed out his own hair a bit. Lord, this was a bit to manage. A bit of a rinse or two later and he was back in the main bedroom, setting Gin down near the fireplace to let her dry off quicker before setting the lantern down next to the bed.
"Off, Rummy." He gently shooed the Leafeon to the ground, plopping down and rubbing the towel over his head once more before chucking it away. He gave another brush through before just looping the mass of hair into a ponytail for the night, swapping into his sleep clothes and crawling into bed. He could use the rest…

It wasn’t long though before Sebastian was lightly snoring away, fast asleep. Gin and Rummy where still huddled about the fire next to the resting Naps, the Whimsicott wiggling and shaking once in a while to soak up the heat. Her fluff was dry by now and a bit bigger too, with less sand. She gave a little yawn of her own; she was kind of sleepy and Sebastian had failed to put her back in her pokeball. Not that she minded, though it was probably better in the long run for her to be in there. She looked back down at her legs, wiggling them again with a small frown. She still really wasn’t use to using them and her trainer’s belt with her pokeball was a good few feet away on the back of a chair. How would she managed?
"Something the matter, Gin Gin?" A subdued voice chimed next to her. The Whimsicott perked up a bit, directing her gaze to Rummy. She hadn’t realized he was still awake, though by how his eyelids were slightly lowered, it seemed he was on the way to being such.
"Oh, uhm I’m sorry." The Whimsicott replied apologetically. She hadn’t intended to disturb him. She placed a paw over her mouth in thought, glancing to the aforementioned chair. "I was just thinking about going back to my pokeball. But I can’t walk to get to it." She remarked, legs wiggling again as her brow furrowed. Rummy gave a little yawn, perking up and grinning.
"Oh? That all? Don’t worry! I’ll get it for you, I can reach over there!" He chimed rather loudly, ears dropping in realization as a stirring came off the bed. Oops! Right he had to keep it down right now. He gave a silent nod to Gin, hopping quietly to his feet and trotting over to the chair. He hopped up, staring at the pokeballs with a tongue poking out the corner of his mouth. Hmm… now which was which again? Ah well. He swatted at one, watching the light appear as Dice was released.
"Oh! Oops! Wrong one!" He remarked, watching a moment as the Cubone squeaked and toddled away. It’d been a while since he’d been out after all. Before Rummy had a chance to check another ball, something strange fluttered into his view. Was that a floating Kleenex?

Rummy had to be rather careful about dispatching the flying Kleenex, actually a Shuppet. It probably wasn’t a good idea to be launching bright lights around while his trainer was sleeping, but it hadn’t truly occurred to him not to do it. The thing came and went down with a swift hit of a small Energy Ball.
"Eesh!" Rummy remarked, shaking his head and checking the room. Sebastian was still asleep thankfully, though Gin was giving him a concerned look. What exactly had just happened? Shooting her a reassuring grin, he turned his attention back to the pokeballs. He would find the right one in no time! After all, there were only three other options after all. He sat staring a moment before some strange shifting from the side of his head caught his attention.
The other side of the desk… was it occupied? He was pretty sure that there wasn’t anything over there before. Rummy was in fact, sitting on the very chair that his trainer's clothes were hanging from. With a head tilt, he squinted at the chair, staring face to face with a familiar looking zipper mouth. Wait a minute…

While Rummy dealt with the odd appearance of Kleenex ghosts and moving Banette dolls, Gin tried to see what was going on. It was kind of dim over in the area where Rummy was and the lantern on the table didn’t really help at all in illuminating the way.
"Rummy? Are you okay?" She called softly, hearing a bit of a chirp in response. She’d seen a couple of blasts of lights which seemed rather controlled for someone like Rummy, but couldn’t make out much else. She glanced over at the sleeping Naps, tapping him as well. Actually no something seemed wrong here… was someone missing? Dice had accidentally been let out by Rummy, where had the Cubone toddled off too?
With concerned determination, Gin shakily stood onto her legs. She’d get the lantern off the desk if she could, then check Rummy and then find Dice. Luckily the room wasn’t that big; he couldn’t have gotten far. With a shaky steps she toddled her way over to the bed edge, clinging to the covers hanging from the sides for added stability. She ended up toppling after a moment. Geeze these things were hard to use! How did anyone manage it?
As she sat herself up rubbing at her face, the soft ‘swish’ of something hovering in front of her caught her attention. Was that… another floating Kleenex staring at her?
Paper Lantern was lit! 1/7/2016 @ 5:46 Mountain Time
Gin used Knock Off! It’s super effective! 65 + 20 = 85 x 2 = 170 DMG 100 – 170 = 0. Shuppet fainted!
+7 EXP to Gin!
