XIU'S SACRIFICED BLESSINGS Major Blessings She could hardly remember how it happened, only that the crown had reached out to her, drawing her in. For one reason or another, it had chosen her--or rather, her other self--to be the king of the Red Kingdom. She had always been so small, so weak, so timid. If she could have had any wish, it would have been to be the complete opposite. She wanted to be great--a strong, kind, and capable person was her ideal.
Perhaps someday she'd manage to reach that goal, but until then, Xiu would have to take one small step at at time.She learned to fight. It had spawned more out of a sudden desire rather than out of necessity, but the time for her to use her skills did eventually come around. After her first encounter with the Hunters, Xiu realized that she was still far too weak. If she wanted to protect her friends and her school, then she had to train and fight more.
She needed to get stronger.She wasn't sure if her creations were a product of hard work or a gift as, growing up, people had told her different things. In the end, she decided that it really didn't matter. Baking was something that she enjoyed, and so long as she could continue making tasty and pretty desserts to share, then that was all that she could ask for.'Things will be alright'. No matter how many times she found herself thrust into a dark situation, Xiu always forced herself to whisper that to herself. Sometimes it wasn't much help, but at the very least, she never let that glimmer of hope--no matter how tiny--burn out. Despite the fact that she was surrounded by insanity, she was hopeful that things would somehow settle.The grail gave her one of the answers that she had needed. Not all of them, but having even a small part of herself back had been welcoming. It reminded her a little of her identity, of the ghoul who she had been before this whole conflict happened.
With any luck, she would return to being mostly the same once this was all over.Truths were sometimes hard to accept, but if there was one thing that she had learned, it was that it was also partly based off of perception. Her first year at Amityville had been tough. They had all believed that Red had died at the Haunted House, they had all mourned...and for a while, that had been the truth. But then she came back. Perhaps truths weren't quite as concrete as she had originally thought.She couldn't remember when it was that she decided that her fists would be her weapons, but what she could recall was how excited she had been to pick out a pair of nice gloves to protect her hands. It was a silly thing, but the memory of dragging her friend from store to store brought a smile to her face. Minor Blessings The strings of pumpkin lights and crowd of chattering people enjoying the festivities filled her with both warmth and pride.As she watched Hayate introduce himself to Shun, she mused over how nice it was to have her family members meet.The electricity running through her shoulder faded as her friend managed to remove the object responsible for her suffering.She had never felt as angry as she did when Hel and Shun had been injured.Xiu wasn't sure what had come over her, but she gave into the Voice and closed her fingers around his throat.The hostility coming off of Wilson was suffocating. She had to take him down, for her own safety.Her heart ached when Hayate told her that he would be leaving. Would she get to see him again?She peered out through the net, her heart falling as she realized that her classmates were trapped all around her.She didn't want to fight him. The insanity creature in front of her had been--was?--her friend, but if she didn't raise her fists against him now...Her friends' fallen bodies littered the floor around her. It had been her single worst nightmare.She was so timid when they had first met, but somehow or the other, Hayate managed to draw her out of her shell.He teased her about how she would probably cry when she finally graduated from Amity.To think that they had really started talking when he accidentally made her spill her lunch. Now Shun was one of her most cherished friends.Shifting Blossoms. Her and Gene's dream cafe was within reach.A cafe was a big responsibility, but Hayate had been willing to lend them a hand to start up if they needed it.Their other selves had met through a dream--though the Red Kingdom--and somehow that had brought them together now. Xiu was grateful for that, since she had managed to meet Rosy and Spinar through it.She didn't wish this upon anyone, but especially not the first years--especially not Sophie. Unfortunately, she had gotten caught up in this conflict regardless...It was then that she decided she wasn't going to stand by and watch as the Hunters harmed innocent people.She was proud of herself. Prom was the first time she had managed to open up and socialize, if only a little.She owed Levi a lot. After all, it was because of her lessons that she could fight.He was having nightmares. What kind of friend would she have been if she had just ignored him?Spirit Week had been fun. She had found joy in sharing her love of baking...though cleaning up was a different matter.The Horsemen had lost everything. She wanted to cry for the stony-faced ones who couldn't.Had killing him really been the right thing to do? It was too late to go back now, even if they did regret it.She wished that no one had been there to see her lose control like that.The camera had been like a security blanket, but it allowed her to open up.Even when her friends left for a while, she would always be there to welcome them back. This time was no different.Her bamboo flute was sitting in a dark case under her desk. She hadn't had any time to play it ever since things at Amity had gotten hectic...She had forgotten how beautiful her garden at home had been. Seeing it now filled her heart with nostalgia.Hayate snuck her a sweet steamed bun--her favourite--and winked. With a grin, the little ghoul had promised not to tell her mother.Although he was a busy man and was a little gruff, her father had gone out to get her her favourite food when she had been sick.Her heart was heavy as they returned from the Haunted House without Red.It was the new year, and she celebrated it with her family and her favourite meal.Since then, she couldn't decide whether the Hunters or the Horsemen were the most fearsome..She wasn't sure how he kept his hair that nice considering the fight going on around them.Her other self had told her about being the Red King through a dream...His pride in her made her embarrassed, but she couldn't help but feel happy.She feared what his reaction would be once he read the note she was writing to him...She had never seen them look as despairing and hopeless as they did while battling their friends.He had pleaded for her to stay out of fights...but that wasn't a promise that Xiu could make.From this she had learned that, in the end, they were no better than the Hunters were.It was her third birthday, and her mother had prepared a feast, inviting all of their relatives...She had never felt so alone as she had in those few, brief seconds.Xiu realized that you didn't come to appreciate things until they were already gone. She was homesick.Meeting someone with the same dream as yours was exciting. She was looking forward to being business partners with a friend.The smiles on her friends' faces as the event went on filled her with warmth.She wasn't sure whether to react angrily or cry.Her parents hadn't approved of her goal, but that was hardly a surprise. At least she wasn't alone.She had always needed to be saved, and this situation was no exception. It had made her feel so worthless.Graduation was coming up. She had eagerly been working away, planning on future things to come...
