[Caely attempts to fight.]

Caely grinningly gave a nod and then went on to reply as she got her bag repositioned at her side after freeing her hands, "Hmmmm, I admittedly don't know where to begin right off the bat to list the numerous sources of fascination I've caught glimpses of though have yet to explore more thoroughly here, too." As her speech paused while her mind attempted to make quick work of reordering the whirl of latest memories she's gained so far so as to give voice to a list to offer, she sent a cheerful smile in tacit greeting to the new arrival in their party.

However, an unwelcome interruption then came bursting through the festival grounds so suddenly. Her expression became fierce as she began to aim and throw punches at bats that apparently were out to wreck havoc and leave destruction in their wake. Now, she had swiftly set her mind on helping defend what she could.

[Kailey attempts to fight]
xxxx...and then fails spectacularly

She'd really not expected to get the time off to even show up to the festival. Late, sure, but she got there, milling around and enjoying the different fried foods stalls had for sale. Even picked up a few nick-knacks and stuffed animals she thought would be cute in her apartment, and as gifts for a certain second-grader and black cat.

When the cloud appeared, she'd been enjoying a cup of hot chocolate and debating how she wanted to spend the rest of her day. The appearance of the bats that looked like they came out of Van Hellsing or maybe some of the SciFi channel's attempt at horror movies, she paused for a moment, thinking maybe it was some special effect for a promotion or... something.

But with how people were freaking out, and how the bats were kinda attacking people, Kailey gave a small snort that... yeah. Promoters wouldn't be that desperate for-- ah hell.

She saw the tiny blur of black, gold, and tan, and her heart sank into her stomach when she spotted Caitlin racing through the frightened crowd after the blur. Cussing, she moved forward towards the older woman, snagging her attention finally before trying to motion Caitlin back. "I'll grab Alex! You run for cover!"

She wasn't positive this would be a situation where ah... those damn pens would be necessary. Kailey was also not remotely interested in seeing Caitlin get caught up in this s**t--about as enthusiastic as she was about Alex being out there. She spotted the kid quick enough, shoving her way through people running in the opposite direction. "Alex! The hell you doing? Get outta here and get back to your mom," she snapped, swinging her bags of trinkets and stuffed animals towards one of the bats.

It wasn't an effective maneuver--remotely. Instead of going after the kid, the beasts went after the slightly taller half-sibling, clawing and biting, and she kicked and punched right on back. Not to much success but to be fair, she'd rather they went after her than her sister.

Alexandre Evans. with Aiden. He will fight the bats.

Alexandre had, at some point, while walking with Aiden found a stall with candles for sale. That was where he was headed, after being mindful enough to let Aiden know, when he heard noise...one he wasn't familiar with, it sounded like some nature show he'd seen on tv. What followed it though was shouting people, something about bats, and screams.

When he looked up, he'd been distracted by the candle stall, he saw something so unexpected he didn't have time to do much. Looking around, even as the bats came in close, he realized there was no way he could power up - damn it! He could handle this if he was powered up, he had a weapon that would help. Those bats were big, was that a normal size? Please...let this not be some Negaverse plot that he was unaware of. If he had let his boyfriend take him to something set up by the Negaverse he would not be pleased, he'd wanted a nice date with the other.

Looking to Aiden the petite blond centered himself as the first bats came in close, attempting to bite him, and he lashed out in return. A kick here and a fist there. "Aiden...be careful. They could be sick." This couldn't be normal behavior and for so many bats to be acting like this? it didn't sit well with him.

Isaiah Zähne, arriving late and running from bats

Life formed a series of terrible obstacles for Isaiah, who intended to occupy a booth before the Fall Festival kicked off. Tracking down intended merchandise turned into a fiasco when he found out that one of his workers sold off much of the reserves, citing that they would make more money doing so now rather than with markups at the festival. Coupled with this was a hitch with the rental car company, who lacked SUVs during the time that he reserved for one, and his own failing to set an alarm. Since booths were a first-come-first-serve basis, Isaiah figured his chances of occupying one were shot.

When he arrived, by bus no less, he was already considerably late to the opening of the festival. Sighing, Isaiah walked onto the grounds to at least advertise or peruse their fare, and instead strode straight into a reenactment of Hitchcock's Birds using bats instead. Screeching, they dove at him as if he stole their young, and Isaiah darted from them instantly. While he looked for a place to hide, he catalogued mentally the many diseases bats could carry, and which may fuel a bat attack now.

As he found one of the booths and dashed under the table, he settled on rabies being the most fitting conclusion. Only rabid bats would bother attacking humans en masse, and so far from a location of any real cave. Hastily he pulled down the cloth covering to the table and hoped that the lack of space would prevent the flying ******** from dashing in to attack him further. He hadn't received his rabies vaccine in a while, and he wasn't interested in going mad with the brain disease before dying.

There he waited, and hoped liberally that the bats would be on their merry way or dead from rabies in the next few minutes.

Jocelin...
-Run and Hide

She still hadn't managed to find Regina and so far her friend hadn't answered the text either, which was starting to bother her. So instead of actually enjoying anything she'd started making her way up and down the various stalls to see if she could find her friend. It wasn't looking likely but she was determined.

Given how much she was concentrating on scanning the crowd for her friend it took her a bit to notice that everyone else seemed to be paying attention to anything but the festival. Frowning she looked up in time to see a large cloud rolling in, on that didn't look at all like a real cloud.

"Oh for ******** sake....."

So much for enjoying a nice afternoon out and nothing weird happening.

She really wished she could say that giant bats were the weirdest thing she'd ever seen but, well, she couldn't. Knowing she didn't have anything on her she ducked behind the nearest stall, some sort of wack-a-mole game featuring skeletons, as the creatures descended on the crowd.

The hiding spot wouldn't last long, not with how big the bats seemed to be, but at least for the moment she was safe crouched under the side of the game booth. "This city is so messed up."

Thorn Kincaide - attempt to fight...

Shadows looming was acceptably atmospheric, but it interfered with Thorn’s light. The painter frowned at his canvas, then up at the darkening sky. The clouds above seemed strangely-formed, shifting in unusual, beautiful ways, almost like wings.

Too much Halloween, he thought, shaking his head to clear away the fancy, though now he knew what his next painting would be. He set aside brush and palette, moving to the front of his stall to greet a couple that was lingering by his table. But they weren’t looking at his merchandise. Their eyes were on the sky.

The distant chirps and flapping became screeches; shock-widened mouths filled with screams.

Thorn ducked behind his table, hands over his head, as what could only be described as a giant bat dive-bombed his stall, toppling a chair with the force of its wings. The clatter of the canvases bypassed shock.

“Dammit, get away from those!”

Fear lost to the instinct to protect his work. He grabbed the candle-holder off his table with shaking hands, and flipped up the edges of the sheets, covering his paintings and hopefully protecting them from whatever the hell that thing was. Those things, he realised, as a second winged creature swooped him. He waved his arms above his head, lashing out with fist and candle-holder, attempting to scare them away from his corner of the festival. Perhaps it worked. Perhaps, though, there was some other poor sap out in the open that they were going for.

“Animatronics,” he said, watching the creature fly onwards through the crowd. Or a light-show. It had to be part of some display. His breathing was ragged. Red fang-lines ran unnoticed over his arms.

Gigi Gennaro - attempt to fight...

By the time her cousin had won the prize she wanted from the game stalls, Gigi was well and truly over babysitting. The kid was already whining again for candy, trying on a guilt trip. The ambient screaming from the nearby rides was starting to be a headache. And it was cold. Gigi pulled her jacket more closely around her shoulders, digging out a few dollars to hand off to Kirra.

“I need coffee. Go get your toffee apple, then meet me back here, okay?”

Kirra nodded happily, leaving Gigi alone for a brief moment to search for her drug of choice. She scanned the food stalls for one that could sell her a coffee that wasn’t ‘pumpkin spice’. Halloween was just fine, but she really hated pumpkin, and it got into everything at this time of year. A cinnamon latte would be perfect, but none of this orange nonsense for her.

With a gust of chill wind, the food stalls darkened. Gigi tensed, a sick feeling rising in her stomach. It had to be youma, swarming on the crowd like a terrible dinosaur movie, all flapping wings and awful fangs. She was caught in the middle of a sea of frightened people, some already dropping under the assault, and without knowing where the real enemy could be, there was nothing she could do – not if she wanted her civilian identity – and her family – to stay safe.

There was so little she could do as Subamara. There was next to nothing she could do about this as just Gigi.

Frustrated by her own powerlessness, she lashed out at the bat-shaped creatures, months of self-defence lessons serving little more help than to give a neater form to her punches.

Kirra Morrow - run and hide...

Kirra clutched the toffee apple money safely in one hand, feeling very grown-up as she skipped through the crowd towards the candy-filled food stalls. Her mum never let her go on her own to buy stuff. She’d been lucky with the ring toss game, and now had a cute little pink teddy tucked under one arm. If she was lucky again, maybe she would have enough money for some cookies as well as the toffee apple – there were so many weird flavours and interesting shapes, and she wanted to try them all.

There was something going on, all the adults were looking up – but the ten-year-old was too short to see at first. It was too early for fireworks. It wasn’t even really dark yet. Kirra took a few steps backwards and stared upward, trying to catch a glimpse of what everybody else was looking at. Birds? Bats? Really really big bats. Much bigger than her! Bigger than her cousin, bigger than even her dad, probably. And they looked really mad!

So yes, okay, she was a superhero and it was her job to fight monsters but she wasn’t Batgirl! Super-giant bats were really scary!

Kirra fled, dodging through the frightened crowd, but it quickly became clear that even if the bats didn’t get her, she was going to get trampled. The first opening she spotted, she squeezed right in, hiding herself in a narrow gap between two of the food stalls, crouching down and curling up small.

Michael Kidder

"I guess trying on will have to wait!" There were far too many other wings on the loose, wings of absolutely unnatural size. The only bats he knew of that should be that scale were fruit eaters, but these didn't look like they had their eyes on the prize... er... Pies?

"I don't think the wings will hold up for long, and I don't want to destroy your inventory!" But if there were an costume staff or something... well that would be too lucky. Not that he was sure he knew how to use one any better than the wings, but there was something familiar about the last big stick he'd had his hands on. Too bad they weren't selling pool cues...

"Jeeze!" He interlaced his fingers and used both hands as a impromptu club as one of the bats swung close, making his knuckles ache with the impact, but he didn't think he'd hit the relatively fragile wings. Still he'd take what he could get.

"Those -are- pretty awesome though!" He added, referring to the sturdier leather wings. "But seriously things have gotten really weird."

Weird after weird after weird, most of it like short bursts of waking nightmare that made him question if he'd really woken up, or if he was just now finding out there were lingering effects from the coma. If Lucas hadn't been there when he'd gotten the crook and costume, he'd doubt his sanity over that too. Let alone all of this.

Delilah White

"She will if she doesn't get distracted." Delilah offered, as she grabbed a bottle of water and went to pay for it.

It was when she turned that she too caught what Officer Fisher was looking at. A mass of black moving in their direction. "Odd?" She commented, walking closer to him with the napkins she had picked up. That was when the sound caught her ears.

Stopping mid-twist, Delilah felt her heart drop. She had come expecting something from the Negaverse. A slow turn of her head as the first creature came into view made her natural reaction kick in.

The water bottle went swinging in a long arch smacking the bat that had chosen to dive bomb her. "Really odd!"

Jessica Haze - Fighting the Bats

Jessie didn't even have a chance to leave the vicinity of her booth when the wind changed, the whole feel of the air just changed. Instead of a cool fall twilight full of smells of fried foods, pumpkins, spices, laughter and chatter from hundreds enjoying themselves, the rapidly falling darkness was replaced with the smell of freshly turned dirt, not even the good kind that one smelled in the spring when flowers were first blooming. No this smelled musty... like from the grave musty. And the sounds of the fun filled fair were overshadowed by this screech.

Her gaze was drawn to the sky where the 'cloud' had rapidly revealed its true self. It wasn't a fast moving rain cloud like she had been worried about. No, it was a cloud of bats... Bats that even now were swooping down on the fair. Giant bats that were not acting like any bat Jess had read about. The sounds of laughter were being quickly replaced by the screams of people being attacked and hurt. Jessie's shout was lost in the rest except unlike theirs that were full of fear and pain, hers was full of anger. "Get away! Back!"

Using her bag with surprising accuracy she swung at the bats, swatting them away from her books. She wasn't concerned with herself, she actually couldn't care less about any injuries she might get. She just wanted to drive the abnormal creatures away from her stock. "Lucas! Look out!" She shouted a warning at her employee... her friend... her something.

Pat O'Ryan - Fighting the bats

Pat had been waiting patiently for the folks to decide if he was a crazy man or not. He couldn't blame them since there were crazy people in the city, who knew if what he was offering wasn't some part of a larger conspiracy. It was a shame that people had to think that but Pat understood. He really did.

He opened his mouth to say something but it was lost in the sounds of screaming. The redhead immediately spun around, searching for the location of the sounds of terror and pain. It didn't take long at all to determine the reason since almost immediately he was set upon by one giant a** bat. Swinging the bear with as much force as he could generate he knocked the flying rat away, "Run! Get under cover!" The EMT shouted as loudly as he could, hoping that others would take heed and run for it. He could see people running left and right, some were fighting while others were being overrun by the creatures.

Glancing behind him he locked eyes with the father, at least he assumed it was the father of the two adorable kids, "Get them out of here." Another swing with the bear knocked another bat off course, but left him with just a green bear arm leaking fluff as the rest of the poor stuffed animal quickly got lost in the freaked out crowd. "Go!" He barked the order before heading into the crowd himself. He was a fighter and a protector. Like hell would he let the flying mammals beat him.

Lena

"You know that I sometimes question your driving but you do make a good shopping cart." Lena smiled as she returned the kiss, pulling back with a smile.

It was then she caught movement in the corner of her eye.

Head jerking over, she caught it just as a bat made a dive at them.

"What the..." A well placed scream made a perfectly timed beep to her string of curse words. They were being dive bombed as a sitting duck.

"Change of plans." Lena commented, grabbing his chair. "We are getting you some cover" called out, making a beeline for the nearest stall with fabric on all sides.

Nick
He was stuck...
So with a smile, Nick reached out for the funnel cake.

He never was able to take the piece.

The piece fell to the ground as Nick was quickly made the target of a pair of very large, very hungry bats. Screaming as he failed his arms, there wasn't much he could do but try to run...
