After taking some time to catch his breath, and after a bit of a back rub from Piano to help him feel better, Cameron felt ready to start wandering around the city. Once he had thanked his ralts and recalled her, Cameron got to his feet and dusted himself off. He had a bit of walking ahead of him before he could check out the contest hall. A large beach lay between the southern dock and the city itself. The teen wished that he could have been dropped off at the eastern dock instead and spared the sand clinging to his shoes as he made his way across, although he was thankful that he was able to be in the area at all.

The dark-haired male briefly stopped at the edge of the beach to pick himself up a bottle of soda, but soon after made his way into the city proper. Here, there were two routes to the contest hall. The most obvious one was along the main street of the city. The less apparent, but sometimes faster, route led through the market on the western edge of the city. Deciding to try and save a bit of time, Cameron decided to try making his way through the market to get to his destination.

By the time they arrived in the next city Aja was shivering, violently, which was to be expected, after all the woman had just literally pulled herself out of the water before she insisted they take to the air; it was cold in the air, Aja was soaking wet, do the math. Still though, the woman refused to even address her ailment as she hopped off Tropius once they were in Slateport, insisting that a quick, brisk walk would warm her up. Alexandra, though concerned, didn't try to object, if she was so determined to get sick, she could be her guest.

Left alone with her thoughts Alexandra turned a contemplative stare up to the sky, her mind flickering through different topics before settling on her friends. Doing a quick check of her XTransceiver she found that she hadn't received any new texts, which wasn't surprising. Marx was at this Renaissance Fair, and from what she could tell Rose had been in the same direction, she was most likely there at this point. Had she met up with Marx? Were the two having fun? These questions followed and, with a soft sigh, Alexandra turned her gaze back down. She really had wanted to go to the fair, but at this point she doubted she even had enough time to truly enjoy all the festivities there; a shame.

If she decided to challenge Wattson that would mean making a few changes to her current team, since currently only Caldo would prove as any sort of threat to the electric, and sometimes steel, gym leader. Of course, there was Obsidian-- whose new evolution would prove useful in that case. Alexandra hummed softly to herself, weighing the pros and cons of challenging Wattson, before she then turned to look down at her watch absently. At Vince's explanation Olivia made a face, not so much displeased but contemplative, he did make a good point. "Well, since we're traveling together long-term, your name would have to come up eventually," Olivia rationalized. "This picture will help cut down on the questions my family will have, probably. Hopefully." But not likely. The pinkette beamed when he finally agreed and, without giving him time to change his mind, sped off to buy a camera. Once she'd made her purchase Olivia came speeding back, posing herself in front of the camera, and while she couldn't exactly turn around and look she felt Vince's hand on her shoulder. Her smile became all the more brighter.
Though she couldn't immediately look at the picture she liked to imagine that theirs had turned out well, and with that optimistic thought Olivia put her camera away and then the sunhat she'd 'borrowed', snorting amusedly at Vince's remark. With nothing else to do -- or rather, nothing she wanted to do -- it was off to their next destination, Olivia eagerly leading the way there while at the same time explaining some of the city's highlights. "The standard pokemon contests," she answered, shielding her eyes from the sun as they left Mauville behind. "So beauty, cool, tough, those sort of contests." It was nice to know that Vincent held as much interest in Slateport as Olivia did, or at least some degree of it, and she chuckled when he made reference to her being his tour guide.
"To get to Fortree..." Olivia tipped her head to the side, and adopted the classic 'thinking' look. "We need to take a boat to Lilycove, and from there we walk." Wrapped up in her thinking she hadn't even noticed they'd made it to Slateport, though it didn't take her long to correct this. "Ah, we're here!" she exclaimed. A breeze blew by, carrying with it the salty air of the sea, and Olivia inhaled deeply. "Hey Vince," she turned around to look up at the male. "Did you want to hit up the beach while we're here?" She gestured out to the left, where the sea lay. "It's a nice day out, and it's not like we're in a rush to get to Fortree."

Vince chuckled slightly as Olivia considered his point and eventually suggesting that his name would have to come up eventually, since they planned on traveling together long term, and the picture would probably help cut down on the questions that would inevitably come. "Yes... I know the feeling. It is likely my family will react similarly upon hearing of you. Perhaps you should duplicate that picture so I may have a copy to show my family." He suggested with a weary smile. It was a bit draining to just think of his family's reaction: specifically of his two older brothers. His agreement to the picture seemed to make Olivia brighten though, and that was worth the hassle to Vince. He waited patiently until she returned with a camera and took their picture so that they could return their hats and move on to Slateport City, but before Olivia ran too far ahead, Vince gently took Olivia's arm to get her attention. "I am not at all opposed to being known by your family. I simply did not want to impose on what I regarded as... Something I was not involved in." He clarified his earlier thoughts aloud with slight difficulty, hoping Olivia would understand.
With his peace said, he let go, allowing her her eagerly move ahead, inquiring more about Slateport's contest hall. "Pokemon.... Contests?" Vince was confused. He had never heard of such a competition, given that there weren't any contest halls in Johto like there where in Hoenn and Sinnoh. Given his lack of knowledge, her further brief explanation of the contest categories only confused him further. "I'm afraid you've lost me." He chuckled, shaking his head. "Is it like the Pokéathlon?" He asked curiously. That was a pokemon competition he was more familiar with and interested in, since he and his brothers often watched the display of physical skill with admiration, each claiming to one day enter and never doing so.
Given that Slateport was a port city, Vince had to ask how they planned on getting to Fortree. Even Olivia seemed to need to think about it, which made Vince feel a bit nervous. Did Olivia really know where she was going...? Eventually he was rewarded with an answer. They would be taking a boat somewhere which would allow them to walk to Fortree. "Ah, I see." He nodded. From what little he knew of Hoenn, he was at least aware of the overwhelming amount of water that it had. It was hard to get anywhere without being able to surf the waters. They'd soon after arrived in Slateport, and Vince took a cursory glance around. He could certainly appreciate this area more than Mauvile. Though this was still a city, the markets felt more like farmers markets, harking their wares in a small town, and the smell of the ocean prevailed over everything on the a warm wind blowing through. It felt fresh and natural. A light smile crossed Vince's face, glancing to Olivia as she called his attention, offering to go hit up the beach since they were here and in no hurry. "Sure." He agreed quite willingly. "It has been a while since I visited a beach, I would like to take advantage of it." Vince chuckled. Johto was certainly not devoid of beach areas with Olivine and Cianwood, but Vince had not often left Blackthorn. "Where might we find swimwear for such an occasion?" He inquired.

Arriving in slateport, Marx had to remind himself a bit that he was here to partake in a contest. With the wingull flying around, the ocean breeze, the beaches, the bathing-suit clad people, the ships.... there were plenty of distractions. Not just for him, either.
Basil managed to get his attention just before they entered the city, luckily, which was enough to remind him to recall his pokemon. He even managed to catch on and take the zorua from his starter, and now held the snoozing fluff ball in his arms, looking around curiously with a fatigued Basil, and a watchful Vaporeon, trailing behind. "He seems different..." the water type remarked. Basil glanced at her warily. "You think? I thought you noticed by now," he replied dryly. She glared at him. "I haven't exactly been out of my pokeball much, Twig," she snapped back. Basil's eye twitched, flashbacks like a post traumatic episode flashing through his mind, before he narrowed his gaze in return. Olivia nodded as Vincent spoke about his family, it was nice to know that it just wasn't hers that were nosey. "I'll make sure you get a picture of your own," she promised, then lifted her hand up to a nonexistent toast. "Well, here's hoping that yours won't ask too many questions. Or at least none that are too intrusive." After their picture had been taken, and with only optimism that it'd turned out to be a decent picture, Olivia was more than ready to start out to Slateport, but before she could get too far ahead she was stopped by Vince. She chuckled at his clarification before she nodded. "I understand," she spoke simply. Traveling with Vince for such an extended time had given her a bit of insight on the man, and while she couldn't confidently proclaim that she knew everything about the man, the few things she had learned of him were enough for her to figure out a bit of his thought process.
There were still quite a bit she didn't know about Vince, and, just like in this instance, there were things she knew but forgot about; like the fact that Vince had never stepped foot outside of Johto, and wouldn't have an idea about what pokemon contests were. "Oh, right. Sorry," quickly apologizing for her absent-mindedness Olivia gave shrug. "They're... sorta like Pokealthon's, but they're far less physical. Pokémon Contests focus on bringing out the best of pokemon and their moves," she explained. "From what I know there are.. three rounds: appearance, showcasing of moves, and a battle portion -- but that's less about actually battling than it is another display of a pokemon's moves." Was she explaining this clearly? Olivia pursed her lips gently, as she pondered this, before eventually she exhaled. "If we have time, we could sit in for one of the contests. They're fun to watch," she suggested, though aware that her definition of fun was slightly different from Vince's.
Not even five minutes into their arrival and Olivia felt herself revitalized by the city's atmosphere, and left with a desire to take a trip down to the beach. Luckily Vince seemed to be in the same mood, and agreed to her suggestion of visiting the water. "I bet they have a few stores that sell beachwear close to the beach," she rationalized, smiling. The pinkette stretched, careful of jostling Pichu too much, then with an indication of her head started down to the beach, a short walk that involved taking them through the city. Her pokemon, save for Pichu, did well in keeping up with her, though Blue stuck closer to Xiu Feng and Licorice than he did his trainer; Olivia still needed to work on building up his trust.
Just as she'd predicted there were quite a few clothes shop located near the beachfront, and without any preference over any Olivia picked the first store they came across. Once inside the young woman looked around, nodding when she spotted the clothes section dedicated solely to beachwear, bikinis, one pieces, trunks, and full body suits -- to name a few. "Alright." She turned to Vince. "We'll pick out our stuff and meet up at the counter?" she suggested.

Vince nodded appreciatively as Olivia promised him a picture as well, given that both of their families were the intrusive and curious sort. Given this fact, Vince couldn't help but smile wryly as Olivia somewhat toasted the picture in hopes that their families didn't ask too many questions. No matter how much he might hope, he knew there would be questioning, and it would all be painfully intrusive. Needless to say, he wasn't looking forward to it. Still, Vince wouldn't dwell on the future suffering he would have to endure. He would much rather enjoy this time he spent with Olivia. To make sure that it was enjoyable for both of them, he made sure to clarify his thoughts on the idea of being known by Olivia's parents. The last thing he wanted was another mishap like what happened at the renaissance fair, so perhaps he was being overcautious in making sure that there was not hurt feelings or misunderstandings, but better that than the alternative.
As Olivia explained different attractions that Slateport had, Vince had to ask a few questions about pokemon contests, given that he wasn't familiar with them. As Olivia realized this, she explained them further in more detail. "I see.... That sounds interesting. I wouldn't mind watching one. You said there were different categories yes? Beauty, cool, tough, is it just those three, or are there others? Are these categories also related to the moves pokemon use? What would define a 'cool' move...." He looked deep in thought. The pokemon contest interested him more than one might expect, which was obvious by the number of questions he asked regarding the subject, but Vince was naturally competitive and so the idea of a contest intrigued him. He certainly preferred the physical prowess that Pokéathlons presented, but showing a pokemon's "toughness" through the use of tough moves sounded too interesting to pass up, and plus he could preview one of the contests to see what it was like. If it was some froufrou event, he could just move on, but if it was actually interesting, he might try his hand at one at some point.
For now though, they decided on beach going as their current activity, and made their way to one of the stores to pick up some beachwear. Vince followed Olivia inside, nodding as she suggested the plan of splitting up temporarily to pick out something and meeting back up at the checkout counter. It was more efficient this way, given that their clothing selections and changing rooms were on separate ends of the store. It didn't take long for Vince to pick out some swimming trunks given that his selection was an easy choice. He didn't want any fancy floral prints, just a solid red with two thin white stripes lining the outer side of his thighs was fine. All he had to do was make sure he found a pair that fit, and when he did, he wore them out to the counter to buy along with a pair of polarized sunglasses, leaving his jacket in his bag and keeping his white undershirt on. It was probably best to stay changed since they were about to head to the beach, after all. Now he just needed to wait for Olivia.
Olivia found herself pleasantly surprised at the interest Vincent showed in the contests, and as he continued to question her the pinkette couldn't help but to smile. "There are five different categories: beauty, cool, tough, clever and cute," she answered, racking her brain for the answers he so desired. "And yes, they relate to the moves pokemon use. I bet there's a catalog we could find that would tell us which moves fall into which category." The more she thought about it, the more Olivia realized just how... little she knew about contests. She knew the basics, and the fact that you could feed your pokemon certain foods to help their performances, but that was as far as her knowledge went; and it left her eager to learn more. "We should definitely give the contest hall a visit," she suggested. "Who knows, maybe you and your pokemon would turn out to be naturals."
Once the two had split up to search for beachwear, Olivia made a beeline for the bikinis to start looking. Unable to immediately find one she preferred, the young woman spent several minutes picking up potential choices, holding them up to her body for a 'preliminary test', only to place them back down. Eventually Olivia found a design she liked, and with another few seconds spent searching for her size, she finally made her way into the changing room. "You certainly play the part of a simple-minded tourist well," a voice back-handedly complimented as Olivia pulled her shirt up over her head. Though it was hidden behind the material, she frowned, and glared at her reflection in the mirror once the shirt had been removed. "You know, it'd be polite of you to ask for permission before you started broadcasting into my head," she thought, annoyed. From outside the changing room Elgyem only shook her head, then grew still.
"I will take this into consideration next time. I would suggest you worry less about my invasiveness, and the fact that you were sent into the field to keep an eye on Team Flare. Who are in Kalos, not Hoenn." Olivia smacked her lips, her reflection developing a furrowed brow. "I know that." She paused, prepared to argue another point, only to falter. Elgyem had a point, they both knew that, she just... didn't want to admit it. Elgyem, detecting the change in the pinkette, nodded before changing tactics. "While true, your targets have been keeping a low profile, you shouldn't use that as an excuse to hitchhike around the different regions with another," Elgyem spoke, her monotone keeping Olivia from discerning any sort of judgement.
"I know," she sighed, gaze absently trailing back to the mirror to look at herself in her bikini. It fit and she liked how it looked on her, this would be the one she'd buy. Vince took mental notes for later as Olivia explained more about contests, noting the categories and nodding as she suggested they get a catalog of moves and their categories. "Something like that would be quite helpful, yes. Perhaps there will be one available in the contest hall?" He suggested. It was worth looking into, even if he had to purchase such an item for later use. Olivia seemed to agree that the contest hall was turning out to be a must-see, though Vince chuckled when Olivia suggested that he and his pokemon could turn out to be naturals. "I don't know about that, but it would certainly be worth a try." The contest hall would have to wait however, since the beach would be their first stop after they purchased and changed into some swim attire. Vince hadn't taken very long since he wasn't all that picky about his fashion–some simple red swim shorts suited him just fine–but Olivia took a lot longer than he expected.
Eventually the pinkette came out and smiled at Vince as she sported her choice of swimwear, an admittedly sexy looking black bikini that had Vince feeling.... Conflicted to say the least. He could only return a nervous looking smile before averting his gaze to pretend to look at some hats so that he didn't stare while she checked out at the register. "For now, yes." He replied to her comment on his shirt, chuckling slightly as she tried to guess his reasoning for doing so. "No, I believe all the eyes at the beach will be much too focused on you." He suggested quietly with a weary smile. There was a touch of restrained concern in his tone, not because he had any desire to be the center of attention, but rather he was afraid of other people at the beach stealing Olivia away from him. It was a selfish thought, he knew, but he couldn't help thinking it. He was reminded of the man hitting on Olivia back in the Santalune gym, and he could easily imagine a similar experience reoccurring on the beach multiple times, something he was not looking forward to. He could only hope that anyone here would not be so bold with Vince standing there right next to her.
He processed these thoughts as Olivia paid for her bikini and what appeared to be a bottle of sunscreen that she picked up. With her fair skin it made sense that she picked up a bottle. Vince hadn't given the idea much thought himself, since his olive tone had never really been one to burn in the sun. Olivia checked in after her purchases, asking if he was ready and Vince nodded, following Olivia out of the store and onto the beach. Once they set foot on the sand, Vince pulled off his undershirt and stored it in his bag along with his other clothes before he observed the beach. The first and most noticeable aspect of the area was the many beach umbrellas with and chairs covering the area. "Those beach umbrellas... Some of them appear to be unoccupied. Are they part of the beach property? Could we just go and occupy one of them? Or do they belong to people here?" He inquired. It would be nice to just go take a spot, set their things down, and go enjoy the beach.
