H O T x B U N It was a couple of weeks after their wedding night that Esmeralda knew something might be happening when she missed her time of the month. She hadn’t spoken her worries, well nervousness, with Ekundayo but instead had gone to seek a midwife to see if her worries ought to be addressed or simply ignored until the next month. It was too early to tell if Esmeralda was indeed pregnant, however the midwife was sure that was probably the cause because of years of focus. She counselled Esmeralda to wait another month and see how she felt about it than and to come back if needed.
The Peisio Dovaa waited until almost the beginning of the third month before going to the midwife once more, though by then she knew she was carrying a little one. She’d been showing and had had to hide it by wearing loose clothing around Ekundayo so he wouldn’t guess, she’d also felt slightly sick around certain foods and at night as well. The midwife did confirm she was officially pregnant and sent her home to her husband. Esmeralda announced to Ekundayo she was officially two months pregnant and revealed her growing stomach to him happily.
She knew Ekundayo would make a wonderful father simply by his reaction to her announcement. Everything was all happy and dandy until Esmeralda grew very sick one night. Ekundayo was worried and called for a midwife; she was given herbs and told to rest. The sickness eventually left and a ravenous hunger began instead, one that was insatiable and Esmeralda ate everything she could get her hands on that were edible. Her actions worried Eku so much that he had to request her mother come down and help him. They’d already advised her family about the pregnancy and the whole thing turned into a family outing.
While the pregnant Dovaa did enjoy seeing her family, after a few days with them she had had enough. Her mood swings were in full throttle in her sixth month and she did not want to deal with people. Her mother sent them back home but she stayed and helped Eku with his wife. Once gone, Esmeralda’s moods became better but she still felt like a dragon had rammed her down. She wanted her child out of her right this moment but of course she still had a few months to go so that wouldn’t be happening anytime soon.
It seemed that whatever pains of sickness Esmeralda had in her last month evaporated and were replaced by an anxious baby who moved nonstop. It wasn’t painful, more like uncomfortable for her but it meant her baby also wanted to be out and about as much as she wanted it too. It also gave her the opportunity to grab onto Ekundayo and let him feel her belly. They still didn’t know if it was a boy and a girl, her family had taken bets and they were mostly leaning on a boy. Esmeralda felt like she might just have a little girl.

S T O R K x D E L I V E R Y During the nine months of her pregnancy, Esmeralda had gained more and more respect for her mother and her ability to carry three children for twenty seven months. The aches and pains, hunger and sickness were all hellish to Esmeralda. Ekundayo had tried his best to make her comfortable and to attend to her every need but there simply had been nothing to satisfy her completely. Even her mother, who had come to live with them in the last two months of the pregnancy, had been exasperated and unable to do anything to help her daughter. So all three had suffered in the same house waiting for the day of the delivery, and no one was as happy when the baby finally decided it was time.
Labor had started in the early morning hours, waking Esmeralda with the greatest pain she had ever felt. Seristas called the midwife and it was quickly determined that the baby was on the way. Ekundayo was promptly kicked out of the room as the midwife and Seristas began to work with Esmeralda. It was a long and painful process for Esmeralda, her yells of pain echoing off the walls of their home. The whole thing took twenty one hours, and by the end Esmeralda was exhausted and her screams of pain had been replaced by the soft cries of a baby.
Ekundayo was finally let inside so that he could see his new baby girl, the proud new parents named their baby girl Minerva. Seristas stayed with them a few more days to make sure everything went well with the baby and then left them to their own devices. Esmeralda herself slept most of the time with Eku taking care of their child during this time. However there wasn’t a moment that her child wasn’t on her mind, and she loved to hold her baby in her arms. Her life had instantly been changed in a few hours and Esmeralda was going to bask in motherhood.
As the weeks passed and Minerva grew bigger and bigger, Esmeralda regarded her daughter with more and more pride. The Hybrid little girl differently had an attitude about her, demanding everything from her parents. She definitely could have passed as a Dovaa if it hadn’t been for her eyes, but she definitely took after her father for the most part. Though the scales and horns were all Esmeralda’s doing and she couldn’t help but smile at the fact that this little girl was hers. She also liked to be read to, something that Esmeralda did every night for her as part of their night time routine.
Her side of the family had welcomed the new addition quite well, her brothers found her adorable and her parents could not have been happier for her. Minerva was their first grandchild after all, and it softened their hearts towards Hybrids. All in all, Esmeralda could not have asked for a better life at this point, and she was certainly looking forward to having many more children.
