~* Welcome to the Asylum *~ "Alright Cody, we're here. You going to come-"
"You can suck my balls-NO! GO AWAY!-b***h!" Cody snarled, kicking at Ary's legs. There was no way HE was going to go where SHE wanted! Squirming, he tried to sit up in hopes of possibly tackling Ary as he fled. Just... a little... "HEY!" he gasped, voice becoming muffled as a sock was stuffed into his mouth and his legs iced together. Damn Ary was quick. Still, Cody continued to kick and squirm although more in desperation than in anger. There was no way he could beat her now completely chained up in ice that didn't seem to have a temperature. How strange... Did that mean it was plastic? Ary sighed and hefted Cody over her shoulder, turning to Shadai. "You did call Aden, right?" she asked, walking to the gates. She had a key to the metal doors, since she worked there and didn't feel like bullying the techs into letting her in every damned day, but she was mostly expecting the doctor to be there with medical supplies in hand. Now that she thought about it, Cody had gotten several bruises and cuts in the struggle to the car. Blue-green eyes gazed at her out of the corner of her eye, drilling holes into her skull. "Oh cool it Cody. Ah, Aden, lovely. I told you I'd be visiting you often when we first met," she commented with a cold smirk.
Aden looked toward the one speaking to him for a long moment before his attention went to looking at Cody instead and he couldn't help but to stare, "Cody?" He murmured, flicking his cigarette to the side before moving over toward the boy with a look of concern on his face. He had no idea what was going on at the moment but it must be bad if they were going to bring the boy here in such a condition, "Poor little cutie, what happened to you?" He asked of Cody, not that he could exactly answer given the fact that someone had muffled his voice with a sock.
Cody just gave a muffled snarl, flinching as Shadai gave him a dark look. "I have suspected his mind frayed into two personalities. I would not suggest... ah, removing the restraints till we get inside unless he is sedated," the woman replied. She had to admit, it felt like she was really the only sane one of the bunch. Ary was quite clearly loving how she could manipulate someone and Aden, well, she wouldn't judge him yet. They had, after all, just met and first impressions were often wrong. "He usually is not this way and I did not feel other places would be able to understand," she added, ending with a long and heavy sigh. "And hide any valuables. He's a pretty good theif," Ary interjected, laughing a little at the withering gaze Shadai shot her. "Anyways, Aden, can we get inside? Cody's not going to walk on his own and he's getting a little heavy." Cody sighed and rolled his eyes, sounding more like he was choking rather than expressing his irritation.
Frayed personalities? He gave the boy a worried look before nodding, "We will..." He seemed to think on it for a moment before nodding, "Best to bring him to the hospital ward first, I will make sure that it will be better then anywhere else we can bring him." He didn't want to toss the boy into a padded room straight away after all, that never helped anyone from what he'd seen of the one spawn the idiot technicians here had done that to. The walk from the front door to the hospital ward was done quickly and he motioned to one of the cots, "Sit him there." He told the one carrying him before he grabbed a syringe, vile of clear liquid, and plopped into his chair before rolling over to where the cot was located.
Ary followed Aden, ignoring the dark glares Cody shot at everyone. She could have sworn he was of wrath with how dark of a glare he could give. Techs were sent fleeing in the other direction at the mere sight of them, although it might have been their general appearance that sent them fleeing. Before they knew it, they were in the oh so familiar hospital ward and she was relieved of her charge. Of course, with all things SOMETHING had to go wrong. "YOU b***h! LET ME-I'M-GO!-GONNA-HELP!-TEAR-I'VE BEEN-YOUR EYES-KIDNAPPED!-OUT!" Cody snarled, managing to spit out the sock just in time to spew a line of curses at the woman who had carried him so indignantly down the hallways of the facility. How DARE they do such things to him?! He was old enough to do things on his own! Why did they have to dictate what he did anyways?! Oh they would pay, they would PAY.
"Alright, its alright." He murmured before he sat in front of Cody, gazing at the boy, then smiled, "Its alright, you don't have to worry now. Your not kidnapped, just coming to visit me again." He explained, looking over at the two that were standing there, "If you could close the door and guard it?" He asked, figuring that if they backed off a little bit that it might help a touch when it came to talking with the boy who was obviously not in his right mind. "Cody, tell me. Do you remember me?" He asked as he set to drawing up the liquid into the syringe he held before capping it and rested it on his lap. He didn't want to drug the boy unless it was something their last resort. Best to try to talk him down a bit first.
Ary and Shadai exchanged glances, slowly nodding and leaving the room. As the door clicked shut, Cody's gaze snapped to Aden. "Remember you? Course I do. No, I don't... You were the one that-I'm sorry. You -took me to Drake. -don't look familiar at all. What the hell is that? What's in the syringe?" he asked, seemingly calming down a bit as the icy chains around his ankles and wrists melted away. Rubbing at where the ice had bound them together, his eyes gazed around the room. Just medical supplies decorated it and was about as colorless as the rest of the room. Someone seriously needed to add some color or... or something.
Aden nodded, so one of them was the one that he'd met with and the other was unaware of that meeting he thought to himself. He didn't think the two seemed aware of each other though, the way he spoke was to him but never to himself. He held it up, "This is a drug to sedate you." He explained, "I would rather not use it though, your very worked up but I believed that we can talk through this instead of resorting to such things. First though I need to know what's going on, I didn't get a lot of information when I was called." Best to get Cody's side, well two sides, to the problems at hand. Something caused his personality to split like this in the first place but something else had to of happened to make those two separate personalities react in such a strong manner.
Cody frowned, thinking hard on the event that led up to where he was right now. Ah, right, he had been writing something and went downstairs to be confronted by Shadai and later tackled by Ary as he tried to leave. Sounded like kidnapping to him. "They "claim"-Well, I don't-I have two-really remember. -personalities. Mother asked-That b***h, Ary,-if I was- tackled me as I-ok or something- tried to leave. -and something about my shirt..." he replied slowly, standing up in anger suddenly. "Then she ******** handcuffed me and threw me in the car! All for trying to leave the goddamn house!" he snarled, clenching his fists. How DARE they?! "Ah, right, she mentioned... my... Why am I standing? I don't remember standing up..." he muttered, tone growing soft and losing any of the anger that was previously there. At least that creepy insane laugh wasn't echoing around the room...
Aden lifted his hands up to show that they were empty, for now, and reached out to take Cody's hands in his, "Its alright, just take a deep breath." He told him, "You don't have to worry about being tackled or anything like that here. We are just talking." For now as well. He found the problem that Cody was having as... a touch interesting, not that he wanted to admit it out loud. Instead he wanted to make sure that Cody, both halves of him, felt safe. He watched him as he rose to his feet and then didn't seem to remember getting to his feet, "You just seem to be under a lot of stress but I can assure you that its alright for you to relax here in this room." While the Labs themselves were far from safe he would be fine in the Hospital Ward since it was Aden's territory alone.
Cody stared at Aden and the hands that grasped his, letting them sit there in silence for a few moments before pulling them away. A slow smirk crawled onto his face with that perfect mixture of darkness and ice and hints of insanity that sent chills down people's spines with a single look. "Relax you say? Since when has such speaking gotten anyone anywhere?" he asked, laughing. It echoed out and back, cold and laced with subtle hints of a mentality that wasn't all put together correctly. "I'm not stressed, I just oh so dislike being taken places against my will," he replied, chuckling a little bit. Ah, this was all too amusing for him for some reason. Then, the switch occurred and that laugh echoed back into his ears all too harshly for his tastes. With a shiver, the teen crossed his arms and looked around. "There's that creepy laugh again..." he muttered, glancing at Aden. "It follows me everywhere... Do you know how weird it is to be doing one thing, then end up somewhere else several hours later with no recollection of what had happened? It used to be months, but now it's so random I can't tell when-What would you do if I, say, broke out right now, hm? Stab me with that thing will you?" And like that, the cold calculating look returned to his face, all traces of a softer side gone in a flash. "I don't know why they brought me here. My memory is perfectly fine. They're ******** liars is what they are," he hissed, glancing at the door.
He listened to what the boys were staying to him, "I understand, Cody. I need to know, when did these episods start to happen?" He asked of the more gentle and scared of the personalities. That he was able to hear the laughter, the voice of his other personalty... it was amazing and he could see how it would be worrisome. To hear laughter that didn't have a known source. Before he was able to get an answer though the other personality was back but this was a good sign, they were no longer fighting for control or trying to talk over each other as badly as they had when they first arrived. "As I said before I don't want to stab you with anything, better that we talk like this. Its more relaxing for us both and I can learn how better to help you with your current situation." He told him, "Now tell me, do you ever have black outs? Just moments where you can't quite remember what was going on?"
Cody's look darkened. "Who says I need help?" he replied in a deathly quiet voice. Cody, the King of Thieves, didn't need such help from people where it was forced upon him. Although, Aden did have interesting questions like those about his memory lapses. Sure the whole sitting around, relaxing, and talking was about as boring as watching paint dry but if it helped those lapses go away... Well, he could at least try right? Perhaps Ary and his mom would get off his case and leave him alone to bug Azrael who seemed almost starved for attention. Guilt flooded him for a moment before passing as he turned to Aden. "Memory lapses, you mean. Yes, on occasion I have them but they're never for too long," he replied, trying to keep the bored tone out of his voice. He wasn't exactly ACTING like a patience child, was he?
Aden gave him a smile, "I would say the current situation you find yourself in says that you need help." He told him, taking the syringe off his lap so that he could instead tuck it behind his ear, rising to his feet. He looked him over closely then gave a nod as he admitted that he did in fact have lapses in memory, "You see the sort that doesn't let anything get in his way." He told Cody, if anything the other personality was the innocent one here. It was a curious thought, made him wonder what sorts of things that this side of Cody did, what sort of trouble he might get into. Given that he was young yet there was a whole lot of it to get into.

~* Welcome to the Asylum *~ Part 2
That ever present smirk rose to Cody's lips, tainting his features with it. "Of course not. How did you know?" he asked, looking the doctor over carefully but not because he was cute. No, the man wasn't to his tastes but any objects of value just might be. If he was going to be stuck in a white room talking about crap he didn't care for, he sure as hell was going to find something else far more interesting to think about. Or possibly do to shut the man up and possibly leave sooner that didn't involve too much violence. "And since we're commenting on one another... You seem like the type that likes to flirt and carry little in valuables," he replied, eyes narrowed as he realized that Aden carried absolutely NOTHING. Damn. So much for pickpocketing...
"I've met a lot of spawn and have come to learn a bit about them through those meetings, how some of them lean more toward virtue while others... leave more toward their vice." He said with a smile, watching the manner in which Cody was looking him over before he gave a grin as Cody read him, "Is that so? Sounds about right, its far more fun to be friendly with those around me and on occasion I will find one that is friendly back though only for a short time." He gave a laugh about the valuables part, "Yeah, sorry to say the only shiny thing I am carrying at the moment is a lighter and the metal is pretty run of the mill and not worth much more then the fire it creates." He said it in an appologetic tone though he was glad he had nothing on him a greed spawn might want since he would likely lose whatever item that was. He blinked a couple times then looked down at his hand for a moment, "Though I do suppose I have this ring." He held his hand up to show it to Cody, a silver purity ring he'd taken from Aludra when they were together the first time. He sighed a little before trying to force the sadness over losing him away and then found himself almost hoping Cody tried to steal it, he wouldn't protest since he really needed to give it up since his time with the humility spawn was long over.
Cody watched the man silently, making no move or expression that might portray what he was thinking. He may not have the patience to endure long, boring things, but he did have enough to think through complicated plans. His abilities to manuever through buildings and security fields was enough evidence to prove such a thing. As the ring was presented, however, he made no move to take it. The metals gave off a light glow, sure, yet he didn't want such a thing just yet. "Let me guess, they left you for someone else?" he asked, digging a little into Aden's history. Perhaps if the doctor became upset enough, he could escape somehow.
Aden's eyes widened slightly at the question before he gave a little smile and a nod, "Yeah, someone his age doesn't want to spend all his time with a boring old man after all." He said, fiddling with his ring for a moment before he asked of Cody, "What of you, you have anyone in your life, Cody?" He asked of him in a curious manner.
Cody growled as Aden shifted his attention to HIS life instead of giving more information. "That's none of your damned business," he replied icily, wings flaring out. Realizing the sudden show of anger at such a simple topic, the greed spawn drew in a long, deep breath and seemed to calm down a bit. "Habit." Was all the explanation he gave, eyeing that ring that Aden seemed so fond of. It was a nice ring and had to be the nicest, and plainest, thing he had seen yet that accomplished both at once. "Why?"
He gave a laugh, "I will take that as a yes." He murmured, not sure if it were true or not but couldn't help but to tease him just a little bit. He gave a smile as he took in the show of anger, he was an aggressive thing wasn't he? He walked over to his desk for a moment to look through the chart they had on Cody but it had no information about the one he might be involved with like some files did. "Call it curiosity, besides you asking me about my love life makes it only fair that I ask you about yours." He said with a grin.
"You won't find a lick of information there. I'd suggest the Durem police department if you really want something useful," Cody replied coldly, neither accepting or denying Aden's claim at having a partner of any sort. He didn't want Edes in any more trouble and their relationship any more strained. It was only a matter of time before the boy realized how impossible it was to be with the greed spawn and left. Despite being all tough and whatnot, Cody's heart ached violently at the thought of the kindness spawn just leaving him like that. "I'm sure the people there would have grand old stories about me and my... friends," he added, shuffling his wings a bit. No, he had to tell them eventually that ties had to be severed. Edes had made it quite clear that his gang activities had to be stopped lest... Cody reached up and rubbed his temple, trying to relieve the headache that was becoming far more prominent the longer they stayed on the conversation of love.
"Its surprising what sorts of information can be found in these things, I sometimes think my Boss is a stalker." He said, giving a smile before he turned to look toward him, "Police Department, huh? Interesting clue but I can't say that I am to terribly concerned with any crimes that your committing so long as you aren't making more work for me." He told him, not wanting to have to stitch up anymore spawn then what was necessary. Each time he had to, especially when it was self inflicted harm, he felt his stomach ache for them. "If my curiosity gets the best of me though I will look into it." He watched him closely, the way that he moved, how he acted, and then gave him a smile, "You look as though your in pain, maybe some aspirin would help." He moved to get some out of the cabinet before he got a bottle of cold water from the fridge that was in the corner of the room bringing both things over to him and held it out to the greed spawn.
Cody glanced at the aspirin and water bottle, pondering taking them. Well, if it helped his headache then it was worth it right? Still, his hand hesitated a bit before moving towards the offered items as well as the pretty silver ring that seemed to give the doctor as much pain as his memories. Then, without a word of thanks, he downed the medicine and a gulp of water where it finally hit him. "Greed spawn, yes? The one that gave you that ring. Or someone rich," he muttered, eyes gazing at the ring that was resting on his palm. The shiny metal glittered softly in the light of the room and its own energy. Strange, he thought, how the rarity of an item was often directly related to the light it gave off. "Or perhaps both, am I right?" he asked, gaze turning to Aden again.
He looked down at his hand before chuckling, "He's both actually." He said, glad to see that Cody had accepted the aspirin the medicine from him, it met there was at least a tiny thread of trust between the two of them. He ran his thumb against the ring before giving a little shrug, "I know I should put it away but I seem to be unable to do so, feeling are a bit hard to get rid of so easily."
Both? A rich greed spawn that felt there was need to visit a doctor in a boring facility and was with another. And was a guy and probably older than a pre-teen which meant it had to be one or two people, unless there was more greed children that he hadn't met yet. Like he really needed to meet more people. Yet, Cody didn't bother with a name as if he had already guessed it, choosing to change the subject rather than linger on it. There was a long pause after Aden spoke before he made any move to speak again. "You're a really odd doctor, Aden. Not at all what I was expecting," he replied quietly, eyes narrowing a split second later. "You're here for a reason, aren't you? Nobody comes here without a purpose willingly." And like that, his quieter self was gone to be replaced by his greedier, more violent side.
"I will take that as a compliment, I would rather not be what everyone is expecting of someone who works in this place." He said to the more quiet of the two versions of Cody before that part of him seemed to be once more swallowed up by the aggressive part of him. He crossed his arms over his chest, seeming to think on the question before he gave a nod of his head, "Yes, I do have a reason for being here." He agreed, giving a smile.
"Thought so." Was Cody's only response for a few moments, mental gears turning rapidly. "At least-How long-there is-do you-some good-plan on-in this place.-keeping me here?" he asked, shaking his head a bit only to flair out his wings as the room started to spin a little. "You poisoned me, didn't you?" Cody added harshly, headache growing a bit. Doctor or not, that couldn't have been aspirin that was given to him. One didn't simply become dizzy or get a headache from nothing, right? AND he was grinning like some fool that had won the lottery.
They were fighting for control again... he stepped closer to Cody, holding his hands up so he could see they were empty before reaching out to him, "I am a Doctor, no Doctor in his right mind would poison someone. My job is tend to patients, not harm them." He said, "Come on, you should sit back down so that you can rest up. It seems that being on your feet isn't doing you any good." He nudged his hands against Cody to try to get him to move over to one of the cots so that he would be able to settle down on it.
Cody snarled and pulled away, clenching his fists. Memories of Edes yelling and calling him a liar flowed by, as well as a vague one when he was young about an angel... Angels were just like everyone else, able to succumb to evil. "Liar," he hissed, glancing at the cots. "Trying to restrain me more like it," he added, refusing to move an inch closer to the seemingly comforting beds that were set up not too far away. "Very well," he finally muttered, shuffling closer to the beds and managing to sit down before his eyes widened in surprise. "You DID do something! YOU'RE CAUSING THIS!" he growled, leaping to his feet only to sink back down onto the bed as everything spun violently for the briefest moment. "Lies..." Cody grumbled, looking defeated as whatever drug Aden must have slipped him took their toll even if it was his own mind creating such illusions.

~* Welcome to the Asylum *~ Part 3 Aden starred at the boy for a long moment before giving a shake of his head, "I wouldn't try to restrain you, after all were I planning to do that I would have drugged you when you came here." He told the boy, glad to see that he finally sat down though it wasn't the louder version of the young man that sat them down, it was the calmer, quieter him. He lifted a hand to rub at his forehead for a moment when Cody lunge bakc to his feet and was back to hissing at him in anger, "Come on now, relax... its going to be alright, I promise. You just need to sit down and breath." He said, reaching to rest his hands on Cody's shoulders, giving them a gentle squeeze.
Cody glared at Aden and slowly sat down. Had he had fangs, the spawn would have surely bared them against the poor doctor. He was no wrath spawn, but he definitely wasn't happy or calm despite Aden's calming words. "Whatever," he grumped, crossing his arms furiously. He was pretty sure he had been given not aspirin but something else entirely but there was no changing that now unfortunately. "Like you'd remain calm," he muttered under his breath, choosing to glare at the floor and tap his foot irritably. Slowly, the greed spawn felt his anger ebb away as it usually did. Such wrathful feelings were always fleeting, only leaving him mildly annoyed or irritated in the end which generally ended in another flash of anger before eventually calming down.
"I doubt I would be calm given the situation but its my job to try to get you to be instead." He said, gently helping Cody to ease down on the cot on his side so as not to squish his wings, "Deep breaths, slowly in through you mouth and out through your nose." He told his patient, wanting to sooth his worries as much as he could. This sort of problem wasn't one that he could make better in a snap, didn't know if he could make it better at all but he wanted to help where he could.
Cody glared at Aden. "I know how to breathe," he growled, folding his wings back a little farther to avoid even TOUCHING the man. Still, he took a deep breath and slowly let it out, closing his eyes to try and help him focus. There was seriously no use getting all riled up, was there? He had to think things through better. If he lashed out, Aden would stick him and wake up in full restraints or something. Escape would end with him being tackled by Ary and probably having a bruised or broken wing. Talking, albeit boring, seemed to satisfy the doctor even if he seemed to learn nothing about himself. "Being calm requires patience of which I have very little of," he muttered darkly, a little irritated at the fact. He was half patience, he SHOULD be able to endure such things without feeling so irritable and annoyed and being so still and doing such boring things. Cody sighed and crossed his arms, thinking a bit and mostly trying to ignore Aden for a while.
Aden watched the somewhat grouchy teenager for a long moment before he settled down into his chair next to the cot, "There we go. Now how about we just relax? Even if you don't feel you have the patience to be calm but its what you need right now, you should just rest up, get a nice nap. I will talk with your parents and see what all we can do for you."
Cody glanced at Aden in confusion at the plural word. "Parents?" Then he started to laugh, a soft gentle laugh with none of the harshness his other personality seemed to have. "Shadai is my mother. Ary was her roommate for a while but she moved out a day or so ago," he explained, still chuckling at the idea of Ary and Shadai, polar opposites in personality and tastes in everything. "I'm fine, no need for a nap or anything. And what do you mean about not having the patience to be calm? I've been calm all this time..." he replied confusedly, appearing as though his darker, more greed-like personality had up and left in a huff to let his more patience-oriented one deal with the doctor.
There was a long pause from the doctor before he gave Cody a smile, "I'm sorry, I know that your doing quite well." He told him, it was apparent that he didn't know about his other self and he didn't know if it were something he would believe even if he told him, "Don't get up just yet, just enjoy the chance to rest up." He wanted to do something for him though, it would appear as though for the moment talking was his only way of trying to figure out what was going on with Cody's mind. To have such a drastic split in his personality, one who was quite loud and a little aggressive, while this one was calm and soft spoken. "Tell me Cody, the black outs your having... how long have they been going on? Can you recall the first time it happened?" He asked of him, not wanting to delve to deep to fast so he would stick with easy questions at first.
Cody blinked and frowned, thinking hard. "Well... they really started to pick up these last six months or so with mind gaps ranging to be very long to all of a few minutes. I... The last memory I have before the true lapses is of going grocery shopping when I was really little and..." he paused, eyes growing dull as blurs of colors and words came back to him. Subconsciously, he ran a finger along one of the longer feathers in his hair as he spoke once more. "This guy was walking by with someone else and he... He looked just like me," he muttered, voice slowly becoming flat and even. "Same hair, eyes, skin, everything..." That was when his eyes sharpened and glanced at Aden. "And you know what? That angel told me had fallen," he grumbled, wincing as he accidentally pulled out one of the feathers from his hair. "And you know what? I ran off. Mother was so upset with me that day... And I still don't know why he fell. Must have been horr-ible. Guess even angels can't be perfect all the time." And there it was. A look of surprise came onto his face, a hand trailing to a spot just under his ribs. "Woah..."
Aden was quite curious now, mention of meeting an angel that looked just like him. The Patience angel that had escaped from this place without many clues as to how he'd gotten out, it was quite a shock to think that he was out and about, walking around town like nothing had happened... yet at the same time Cody said he'd Fallen so he doubted that it wasn't as though nothing at all had happened, that wasn't something that happened every day after all. "I agree, from what I have ready about the night he went missing it was quite bad." He murmured, then tilted his head to the side when it would seem as though the two personalities shared a thought, even finishing one anothers sentence. "Are you alright?" He asked, noticing the manner in which he brought a hand to his stomach just below his ribs.
Cody stared at Aden, blinking. "Strange... You say the night he went missing was bad? What happened?" he asked, now acting more like a pair of twins, all eager to hear what was coming next in a bedtime story. As Aden asked about his old scar, he shrugged. "M'fine. Scar that itches," he replied quietly, scratching vaguely at it. Now that he thought about it, how DID he get it? He remembered a knife and blood, but the reasoning behind it as well as the event were totally lost. He did, however, remember waking up in the hospital with several stitches and his mom bombarding him with questions after Edes... The name rang clear through his mind. So something with-Shaking his head, Cody turned his gaze back to the doctor. "Well? You seem to know more than I so spill," he snapped, barely hiding a flinch. Did he really sound that way? Why was he talking so strangely? He didn't mean to say those words either...
He gave him a nod, "From the report I read the night that he disappeared there were three deaths in the Labs, a human Tech, Kerylia the old Gluttony Demon, as well as Shar the old Wrath demon." He said, seeming to think on the information that he'd read over about that night, a lot of it seeming to be spotty and other parts of it assumptions, "The place the human was found was the garden that the Patience Angel tended to, the garden was a mess, things knocked over and broken, and there was blood from the angel as though the human had attacked him for some unknown reason. Its assumed that the angel killed him in self defense... but being what he was I doubt it went over well. He was a Patience Angel, he shouldn't have let his temper rise to that point, should have just let it go." He gave a shake of his head, finding some the techs here to be... quite disgusting really. They were the lowest forms of human life and he regretted that he was the same species as them some days, "For a reason we don't understand he went from there and fled down to the Dungeons where the demons were kept. Kerylia escaped, Shar was left loose, and the pair tore each other apart in front of the angel's eyes... and... well what happened then I can't say, Hyacinth just vanished leaving behind a big mess." He said, shaking his head, "Its a good thing that it was you who met with the angel instead of Vampy, I highly doubt that he would still be walking around if that had been so."
Cody nodded, quickly feeling more and more guilty with each passing second. 'Pathetic. Vampy should have found him,' a dark voice muttered in his mind, completely unlike his own. "Wow... I had no idea..." he muttered, shaking his head to clear the strange thoughts. Strange wasn't even the beginning of it and just like before when the strange whisperings started, his headache slowly began to return. "So that was what he meant when he "retired"," he added quietly, glancing up after a moment. "He was weak. I'm not surprised," he growled, then looked almost shocked at what he said. "SHUTUP!!! Just shut up!" Cody screamed, covering his ears and curling up into a fetal position. A soft cackling filled his mind. 'Pathetic and weak, just like you,' it laughed, taunting him darkly. His own thoughts were laughing at him, taunting him, INSULTING HIM. "I'M NOT! SHUT UP!" he hissed, wind slowly starting to swirl violently around him while randomly changing velocities and directions in an erratic pattern.
Aden's eyes got a little wide, reaching out a hand to rest it on the boy's shoulder, giving it a little squeeze, "He called it retirement, huh? Interesting way to look at it." He murmured, wishing that he had a chance to meet with the Fallen angel to learn more then he had about that night. Aside from him the other witnesses were either dead or not terribly helpless when it came to J'her who had only been able to add so much to the report that he'd read. The way that the boy started to flail worried him, making him rethink the idea of drugging him which he might need to do... he didn't want to fight with him but drugging him wasn't his first choice. For the moment he was going to do his best to keep from going to that right away... though he was worried by the way he seemed to be argueing with himself now, "Are you alright? Come on now, you need to try to take deep breaths." He said, voice deep and soothing.
Cody shook his head, struggling to silence the laughing voice within his mind. "It... won't... Can't..." he muttered, eyes shut tightly as he tried to shut out everything around him. Then came his laughter, his horrid cackling laughter. "Pathetic, absolutely pathetic," he chuckled, face growing calm for a moment before returning to that of complete horror and concentration. "So this is what they meant," Cody muttered, withdrawing a bit from Aden. He didn't want to hurt the poor doctor, even if it was entirely on accident. Edes would-would... His headache spiked as fragments of memories he never recalled having came back to him, feeling as though they had rusted into their previous place and were being slowly torn away. Painful and horrifying, Cody felt like his entire mind and life were one giant jigsaw being forced back together again.
Aden sighed as the boy pulled away from him and he rose to his feet so that he could look him over more closely, concern on his face. He reached a hand out to brush it over the boy's arm gently before he moved to fetch a stronger dose of medicine to help with the pain the boy was in. He could see it in teh may that he moved, the expressions on his face. He wanted to help to ease that pain but knew that at the moment what he was fighting with was now eternal. It wasn't something he could help with passed a certain degree.
Cody gave a cry of surprise and pain as Aden brushed a hand against his arm, snarling and lashing out against it. As he did, however, the teen lost his balance and plummeted over the side of the bed, landing with a soft thump onto the floor. "Stupid ******** bed," he growled, kicking it and, with the help of wind magic, sending it skittering across the room. "Keep those ******** drugs the ******** away from me," he hissed, realizing that was where Aden was heading for.
Aden gave a sighing sound, "I am trying to help you with the pain." He said, walking toward the boy, looking concerned as he set for struggling when he'd been behaving himself, "Please, Cody. It’s just to help with the pain that you’re obviously in, now please... I will ask that you calm down! I can't have you tearing up the ward, what if someone came in seriously injured? If it’s a mess I would be of no help to them." He said, approaching the teen slowly.
Cody glared at Aden. "Like I would give a damn. Shouldn't have ******** gotten hurt in the first place," he snarled, getting unsteadily to his feet and backing up into one of the corners in the room. "I-I don't need it. S-save it for someone else," he muttered, shaking and trembling violently as he struggled against the personalities and the memories that drifted in and out of view. "J-J-Just... St-stay away! He'll h-hurt y-you l-like the others," he muttered, covering his ears in hopes it would hide the terrible voices that echoed in his head.
Aden gave a little sighing sound in his throat before he followed along after Cody, "I am not afraid of getting hurt myself, I am more worried about you Cody." He told the teenager in a soothing voice, not wanting for him to get any worse because he was forcing away the people who were trying to help him. Instead he continued to talk with him, to be close to him, knowing that it was what he needed more then he needed to be left all alone.
Cody shook his head. The doctor was nice and helpful, he didn't deserve to get hurt. Nor did he deserve to have any number of the malicious plans that evil voice spoke of. Not a one ended in death but they weren't exactly the nicest either. Pain, suffering, torture... What kind of monster was he?! "Go die in a hole," he hissed, glaring at the doctor upon gaining control and even going so far as to take up a stance that suggested he'd lash out and punch the poor thing. There was no changing his mind on what he'd do next if Aden took a step closer. One step, one touch, one move closer or word about being calm and he was going to end up with a black eye or proken nose or something. ANYTHING to shut him up. "Come any closer and I'll hurt you. Don't think I won't," he hissed, a fury building up and the only reason his darker side remained in power.
"You really don't want to do that." He said, watching the boy closely but seemed to stop just out of arm's reach so that neither of them were able to touch the other, "Come on, we can work this out peacefully, I am sure you would rather not battle it out here... please consider where you are. I am the only person in this place with a coat like this that will hold any sort of sympathy for you. If it were up to the other Techs they would just toss you in a padded room and be done with it." He warned him before he looked toward the door for a moment before he found himself debating getting the help of one of Cody's loved ones.
Cody's scowl darkened, blue-green eyes glaring daggers at the man. "Don't care. A room like that wouldn't hold me long and neither will this place. I don't need sympathy and I don't need your damned help now back off," he hissed, watching Aden carefully. Every movement, every breath, every blink, they all said something about what the man was thinking about. As the man's gaze turned to the door, it was as if he knew what the man was debating. "You wouldn't dare," he growled, not letting his fear of the white haired demoness in human form be known. The only reason why he felt any fear was because the teen was pretty sure she could throw him throw a closed door. He had seen her a couple of times late at night when she went out drinking and was pissed at someone, and it wasn't pretty what she could physically do.
Aden glanced over at Cody, "I would rather not draw others into our conversations but if you force me to do so I will." He said, motioning to Cody, "If you would rather keep it between us then you need to calm down! If not I will need to find an extra set of hands to help me out." While he didn't really care for the idea of having to use idle threats it seemed that one of those people in the hall intimidated his patient and that was something he would need to use to his advantage.
"I AM CALM!" Cody roared, slamming his fist into the wall. It left no indent, but it was enough to gain Ary's attention outside. "And I wouldn't have to sit all nice and pretty and answer stupid ******** questions if THEY had just left me alone!" he snarled, taking a couple steps toward the doctor. Whether Ary was forced to help restrain him or not, he was going to at least try and hurt the man. ANYTHING to make him shut up.
"They?" He asked, watching the way that Cody moved toward him in a rather aggressive manner, looking as though he might he getting ready to attack but Aden didn't retreat, instead he just watched him closely, waiting and watching, "Who are they?" He asked, wanting to keep the boy talking, to keep him distracted from the fact that Aden was preparing himself just in case the boy did decide to attack.
"You're ******** dense. The ones that DRAGGED me here," Cody snarled, jabbing a finger at the door. "THEY had to stick their damned noses into my business and drag me here to answer stupid ******** questions and get absolutely ******** nowhere," he continued, taking another step forward. One more step and he'd be within reach to land a blow against him and take off through the door. Ary might be strong, be she wasn't nearly as fast as he was and she couldn't fly. Perhaps if he let lose a whirlwind in the hallway he could distract her long enough to get back to the alleyways and hide out long enough for the heat to die down... Yeah, then life could go back to normal and he wouldn't have to deal with the damned facility again.
Aden gave a little smile, "Yes, well... parents are pretty annoying like that, trying to always bother their children." He said, unsure of what he would think if this was Beryl in this situation. He watched as the by got closer to him, closing in on him, then gave a grin as he stepped within arms reach, "You know it would have been far easier if would have just cooperated... but hey, I can't say I mind to terribly much." As he said that he took the last step needed to close the gap between them, reached out to catch hold of the back of Cody's neck with one hand to pull the teen in with a tug for a kiss... and his other hand moved quickly to bury a needle into the thick muscle of Cody's upper arm.
Cody, needless to say, was stunned when Aden closed the gap and pulled him into a kiss. Instantly all concentration was obliterated, any thought shredded at the soft touch of the doctor's lips. "What the...?" he muttered, then panicked. If Edes found out... If... The teen felt his mind slipping, his grip on the waking world slipping. Darkness quickly began to fill his mind as the drugs took over. "Edes..." he muttered under his breath as he fell forward. Any waking thought or feeling was lost as his mind descended into the darkness of unconsciousness.
Aden tossed the syringe aside onto his desk so that he could catch Cody in his arms, smiling down at him, "That's so much better, you know you can be quite cute when your not looking so grouchy." He said as he swept the teen up into his arms before he walked over to one of the cots and laid the boy down on it carefully, on his side so his wings wouldn't get squished, "There we go. Now how about you rest up for a while." He said, soothing the boy's hair back. Well at least now he knew Cody's most important person was... now to figure out if that could help or if he would need to find another route out for the teen.

~* Stuck in Solitude *~ Slowly, thoughts and vague sensations began to creep back, bringing along with it light and a dull headache. It took the teen several long minutes to realize there was some sort of weight on his chest. What had happened anyways? Thinking back, Cody groaned at what he was met with. God he was stupid and who the hell did Aden think he was to be kissing HIM without permission? The entire thought was both pleasing, guiltying, and horrifying. He just hoped Edes didn't find out...
Slowly and with a soft groan at the bright light, Cody opened his eyes only to find two blue ones staring back a couple inches from his face. "HOLY-ACK!!!" he gasped, jerking up only to find himself bound and unable to move, cutting his breath short. "Uh... Hi?" he asked, eyes wide as he stared up into what had to be a toddlers face and, judging by how much weight was sitting on his chest, the teen figured he was pretty close too.
Beryl blinked a couple of times before he gave a huge, toothy grin, before he shifted in closer to stare a moment longer, "Hello." He greeted Cody, tail swishing behind him in a pleased manner. While he didn't know much about this new patient, expect for the fact that it wasn't Ella, he was still curious. With Aden napping at his desk it allowed Beryl to crawl up onto the cot to watch the new patient, "You gots a leash too?" He asked, seeing the way that Cody was bound to keep him from running off, something that Beryl was used to since he was often in a similar position since he often ran off to get in trouble.
Cody blinked and stared at Beryl for several long moments as he moved in closer and grinned a cute little grin. "A... Leash? I-I guess. Who're you, if you don't mind me asking since you are sitting on me and all. I'm Cody, by the way," he introduced politely, finding the kid kinda cute, despite being mere inches from his face. "Uhm... Why are you sitting on me?" he added curiously, attempting to look around and find Aden. Unfortunately, that was nearly impossible with how close their faces were to one another.
Beryl shifted so that he was sitting cross legged on Cody before leaning back a bit so that he could see more then just the eyes that he was starring at, "I'm Beryl!" He said in a cheerful manner then seemed to be thinking on what was asked of him, why was his sitting there? That was a good question, "Cause your on the bed." He answered, since Cody was taking up all of the cot there was no other place to sit but on him of course! It totally made sense to him.
Cody blinked. Well, that made a good deal of sense oddly enough. Laughing, Cody attempted to sit up and sighed as he got a good look at his restraints. There was a loose one across his chest and around his wrists and ankles. They bound him roughly in place, allowing the teen some movement while restricting him to the bed. Great. Unable to sit up, the teen opted to prop himself up a little on his elbows. "So Beryl, who d'you belong to?" he asked, glancing around the room and finding Aden unconscious at his desk. Seeing no one else, save for the kid on his chest and the sleeping doctor, in the room Cody's eyes trailed back to the strange thing on his chest. He could see the DNA from the new gluttony demon ever present in the glowing marks all over his body and an overall fishy look.
Beryl starred at him for a moment before he turned to look toward the sleeping Doctor and then back again, "Dad is sleeping." He explained, the man seemed to catch cat naps or cigarette breaks whenever he was able since there was always something that he needed to tend to that kept him from sleeping in a normal manner, "You look neat CoCody." He told the teen, reaching a hand forward to poke at his interesting hair, feathers, and then poked at his cheek.
Cody grinned. So Beryl belonged to Aden. Interesting... "Hm? I do? You're pretty neat looking yourself. Never seen a kid that glows or looks like you in a long while," he replied, glad the kid didn't attempt to pull any of the feathers out as he touched them. They were about as painful to remove as a couple strands of hair but looked way weirder growing back. "If you undo one of the wrist straps I can give you one of my feathers if you want," the teen added, curious if the kid would do such a thing or not.
Beryl looked prety interested when he was offered a feather for undoing a strap. He was told not to bother Cody or to let him off his leash but... Beryl knew how much it sucked to be tied up and as such he found himself thinking that he should help. He gave a thougtful sound and his fingertips set to fiddling with one of the straps that he was being held down with. Surely he wouldn't get into to terribly much trouble if he traded it off if he were going to get a pretty feather in exchange, right? Of course not... he gave a grin as he tugged at the strap in an attempt at figuring it out.
Cody grinned as Beryl went to work on figuring out the strap. "You gotta move the strap out and through the loop thing," he said, recognizing the way it was set up. It looked a lot like how his belts were designed but with padding on the inside and meant for wrists, not holding up pants. That meant they would be easier to undo later if he, say, wanted to escape or something. His eyes glanced over at Aden, watching the man carefully just in case he woke up while keeping an eye on Beryl out of the corner of his eye.
Beryl turned his attention to the straps that he was supposed to be figuring out, giving them a curious look, then set to tugging on one of them succeeding in tightening it more then he did anything else, "Hrm..." He tugged on it a bit more, "Huh... let me try..." He leaned over and set to work gnawing on one of the straps knowing that he would have better luck chewing his friend free instead of trying to figure out how the things worked.
Cody chuckled softly as Beryl started chewing on the straps instead of undoing them. Guess child-proof locks was still a possibility for parents everywhere, although he himself could have probably gotten open just about anything labeled as such. "Don't hurt yourself," he commented, unsure of how much the toddler could do before risking injury to himself. The kid wasn't of any combination he had seen before, or could remember, so he seriously had no idea what the kid could do.

~*And Along Came Company*~
Ilyrosa skipped through the halls, hoping she remembered where exactly Ary’s room was and that the woman was there. It was an unexpected visit to the melee teacher that had been planned by the wrath girl relatively last minute. She still had no idea why finding the white-haired teacher and practicing her skills sounded so intriguing, but it did. And as a person guided solely on last minute decisions, she had told Damon she’d be gone for a while as she ran out the door to the facility and nearly forgetting a jacket as she did.
Cody sighed as he stared up at the white ceiling. Aden had left a while ago for a food and smoke break and he couldn’t help but feel lonely. Boredom had been rare for him since his terrible conclusion of what had happened and thus restrained to a bed unless someone was around. Yet, the slowly returning memories left him feeling incredibly alone even when the room he was in was crowded.
The teen specifically missed a certain brown-haired spawn he had treated so terribly the last few weeks of his freedom. As he heard footsteps walking by, his blue-green eyes snapped to the open doorway. “Aden?” he called out, not recognizing the tripping footsteps. Not to mention there was only one pair and not two had they belonged to Beryl instead.
Ily paused at the voice, only a few steps away from the door that led to the hospital wing she had been in after losing her temper in her first melee class. The memory of slicing up her shin hadn’t been something she wished to remember or repeat, but the voice had intrigued her. Curiously she peeked inside and gasped at the teen restrained to the bed. “What the hell? Why are you tied up?” she asked, remaining by the doorway for a moment. He didn’t LOOK like a child of wrath, like herself, and he didn’t look dangerous either. So why was he tied up? It made no sense...
“Oh. I’m sorry. I thought you were-never mind. I’m tied up for the safety of myself and the various people I would meet upon escaping. Under, ah, better circumstances I’d probably be able to wander around. Unfortunately, Aden or my “guardians” aren’t here so I can’t,” Cody replied, blinking in surprise at the girl.
He wasn’t expecting anyone so vibrantly colored to wander by, especially someone who was obviously not gluttony or pride. Her clothes, he assumed, would glow pretty epically under black lights. Probably the reason she wore them. Or she was color blind. The teen figured he’d suffer such a fate if he stared at her clothes long enough.
Ily stared at the teen, still stunned he was tied up despite his explanation. “Uhm... You don’t look dangerous though. What’s your name? I’m Ilyrosa but you can call me Ily,” she replied upon moving farther into the room. Her surprise meeting with Ary could wait a few minutes, right? “Where is Aden anyways? Didn’t see him outside,” she added upon plopping down into a nearby chair that appeared to be unoccupied. And by appeared, since there was nobody else in the room, she figured anything was fair game save the bed Cody was currently using.
“He’s probably out getting food in the facility’s cafeteria or out on a smoke break by now or something. The name’s Cody, by the way. And have we previously met? Your name sounds familiar, but I can’t recall why... One of the many reasons I’m here too, I’m afraid,” Cody replied, shifting a bit as the girl fully entered the room and sat down in the chair Aden used. He himself had eaten earlier, which was why the doctor had gone out to lunch himself. Not to mention Beryl was beginning to chew on things far more often than either liked.
“Yeah, same. I think we were both at that Valentine’s Day ball or something. Dad got clocked by a white-haired-“
“White-haired she-devil by the name of Ary and is now the current melee teacher? Yeah, so that was your Dad? Ouch. She got him pretty good if I recall correctly.” Ily frowned and nodded slowly. “Is she-?”
“Nah. Roommate of my mom. It’s a long story but she has her own place at last. How is your dad anyways?” Cody asked randomly, groaning a minute later. “Skip that question. I forgot how long ago that ball was and most of what happened then, before, and after.”
“It’s ok. Must suck to have... whatever you have going on. It’s been a while, yeah, and he’s fine. Not sure if he’s back to going after her or not, but why do you call her-,” Ily stared, and then stopped at the dark look on his face. Her heart had to of skipped a beat or two at the sound of the dark, chilling and... insane sounding laugh that echoed around the room. And who else was it to emanate from? None other than the weird teenager restrained to a bed that had gone from being polite and nice to something that made HER want to crawl under the covers of her bed back home. HER, of all people! No wonder he was locked up here...
“The white-haired she-devil? We don’t have good history is all. She’s a b***h, I stole her stuff, we fought, end of story. Yes, I’m half greed. What’s your genetics?” Cody asked, voice shifting from something close to that of an evil genius back to what it had been before all in the blink of an eye. Yet, he managed to answer the girl’s unspoken answer seamlessly without appearing to be totally confused as to what happened. He even knew the next question she was bound to ask, but that he didn’t bother answering as well. Company was company, right?
“Wrath and diligence. You?”
“Ah, the new wrath I assume? You don’t look like the old wrath demon at all so I simply assumed. Shar, I believe that’s his name, didn’t have a tail and was only one color. Patience is my virtue and yes, the old patience. Couldn’t be part of the new one anyways,” Cody sighed, shuffling his wings a bit. Blue-green eyes wandered away from the girl and back to the ceiling, a sad look tinting his features. Thankfully Ily didn’t speak for a while, sensing his discomfort at the topic and for once, the teen was glad he wasn’t being pushed for answers on topics he didn’t want to discuss. Unfortunately, she chose to spin around at what had to be light speed in the chair instead to preoccupy herself.
“Could you stop that please? You’re making me a bit ill,” Cody asked, indeed looking a little greener than before. As Ily stopped, however, the look gradually vanished. “Nice necklace. Must have cost a fortune,” he added, eyes glued to where the jewelry was hidden. And how could he not notice? The thing had a glow the size of the sun!
“How? Wha?”
“I can see objects of value based on the aura they give off. Your clothes at first blinded me to its existence. Right now, however, it looks like you’re trying to hide a searchlight under your shirt. I assume it’s a larger gem of sorts, though not a diamond but still semi-precious. Yes?” he asked with a greedy smirk. Instantly Ily’s hand grasped the necklace, scowling darkly.
“Yes. And you so much as touch it I’ll gnaw off your arm. T’was a gift from a friend.”
“Only a friend? You sure? Things like that don’t come from the dollar store yanno. Besides, I’m tied to a bed and can’t exactly steal it, much less sit upright. Hell, I couldn’t escape even if I wanted too, though that’s mostly because Ary would-“
“Speaking of Ary, she here?”
“Yes. Why?”
“Just curious. What’s it like living with her anyways?”
“Terrible. She wakes you up at dawn for the hell of it. Has a short fuse too, especially during summer. Oh, and snowball fights are a must during winter. Trust me, she’d be perfect as a military sergeant. Though I’m sure she’d be kicked out for unnecessary use of violence,” Cody replied with a soft sigh, glaring at nothing in particular.
“Really? Huh. Here I was expecting just a bad temper or something. Well I should go...” Ily commented, rising to her feet. “Say, do you know the skills teacher here? Uhm... Fifth Avenue?”
“Yeah. Taught me how to fly when I was younger I believe. Why?”
“Curiosity. See ya Cody.”
“Bye Ily.” The teen watched her leave, sighing. Sure the fact that his retinas were no longer screaming in pain, the conversation had been nice. Oh well, guess he’d have to wait till Beryl returned or something...

It would be on a Saturday that you open your mail box (if you have one) and notice there is a rather thick envelope stuffed in there. There is no postage stamp and a very vague return address. But you recognize the font and the company's name. 'Seven of Seven Inc' scrawled in majestic font across the upper left hand corner. As you open it, you may strangely find yourself drawn to the letter, there is a mass of notes inside. They read as follows:
Letter Congratulations! You have managed to succeed in raising your child. (IE: Not killing him or her or getting killed yourself. Haha we kid of course.) We would like an update from you on the following: Guardians Name: Child's Name: Sin: Virtue: Gender: Current Attitude: Likes: Dislikes: Any abnormal growths: (if any, example: Feathers molting, horns growing larger, scars ) Current hair style: Current clothing preferences: Dominant celestial trait: (The sin or virtue) Please summarize in your own words how difficult or easy it was taking care of your child. Did you manage to care for them in a kindly fashion? Or were you forced to discipline them? As well do not be alarmed if you suddenly find your child achieving a massive growth spurt in the next little while. We are finding that the children from our facility have strange growing patterns and are rather unpredictable. Although please let us know if anything unexpected occurs. Sincerely the technicians from Seven of Seven Inc. Ps. Please just leave your letter back in your mail box one you have completed it our courier will pick it up. Thank you.
You would notice the letter seems overly friendly...strange since the scientist were so ...cold before.
(Just take the from Guardians name to Dominant Celestial trait and pm it to the mule, the summarization doesn't have to be long just have fun with it.)

~*Breaking Free*~
The straps around his wrists snapped easily enough in the dark silence of night. Flickers of pain from the recent growth emanated from where the restraints had constricted him. That was all he needed for his escape plan to be put into action, that little extra boost that would give him the edge he needed. The edge that would get him out of the boring facility he desperately needed to be released from. Aden was far too protective, making sure he was under lock and key at every moment of the day while flirting and questioning nonstop. It was enough to make ANYONE go insane, but this time it was temporary insanity that would get him out. Out of the facility, out of the white walled rooms and hallways, away from techs and doctors and everything he so despised about the place.
Away and out and to one person, one person he missed more than the sun and the grass and the unsterilized air of the outside world. One person that made him calm and stuck with him through the darkness despite the horrible things he had done. The one person he wanted to be his forever and he knew exactly where that one person was. One thing Aden couldn’t guard against was his thoughts. Movements, sleep, actions, words, magic... everything could be carefully watched and guarded under the doctor’s supervision except his thoughts. The one thing that got him in trouble most were those planning thoughts that never ceased in their plotting and perfecting.
Pale feet lightly touched down on the cold, tiled floor. The lights had been turned off and the doctor was unconscious at his desk, as per the usual for whatever time it happened to be. He just knew it was late and that most were asleep save for the few that worked a night shift and the pride demon on occasion. Thankfully he had avoided Enki for the most part during his stay, lest his ear be talked off completely. The demon could certainly talk up a storm about himself. Shaking his head softly to rid himself of such thoughts, quick pale feet quickly made their way to the door of the medical ward he had been stashed in.
Flicking blue-green eyes back to where the doctor was snoring softly, Cody gave a soft nod of a goodbye before slipping through the door as silent as a ghost. Aden would figure out what happened soon enough, since he was sure the doctor would consult Ary about his location upon her arriving for work. He just hoped he could grab his brother before his mother could and patch things up beforehand. The thought of facing both Azrael and Shadai and fixing things between them at once was just... overwhelming.
Moving quickly through the hallways, the spawn easily evaded the techs by either ducking into doorways or by simply ducking down another hallway until they left. Truth was, he barely knew the way out and thus ultimately guessing where to go. A slight drawback, yes, but at least he was free and the general mass of techs seemed to be blissfully unaware of his presence. No doubt Aden would question them on how he escaped. Like a ghost, he simply vanished while remaining in plain sight. A talent he loved to exploit for his own gain.
Or at least, he used to not too long ago. After going down what had to be the hundredth hallway the exit came into sight. With a devilish grin, the greed spawn tore out of the facility and raced along the streets towards a certain somebody’s home. He knew the way, he knew the twists and the curves and what to generally avoid. At least, he hoped the various gangs hadn’t changed territories lest both parties get caught horribly off guard in their favor. Well, no, he could fly.
He nearly did a face-palm. Duh, he could fly his way to Edes’ house and save him a heap-load of energy. Then again, such a thing wasn’t exactly going to be easy either, since he neglected to realize his wings were tied together until he attempted to snap them open and nearly break them in the process. Stumbling, Cody hissed in pain and rotated his shoulders in hopes of fending off the aches that came with such a stupid maneuver. “Of course... That’s why,” he muttered with a sigh, continuing on his path to his destination barefooted and aching.
It took him several hours to get remotely close to the home and by that time the sun was quickly climbing higher and higher into the sky. If he had to guess, he would’ve said it was roughly nine in the morning but since it was still winter, though unseasonably warm for it, it was hard to tell for real what time it was.
Exhausted, he just hoped Edes was home. If not, it was a long walk back home to Shadai... With a sigh at the thought, Cody rang the doorbell and was greeted not by Noel, Mischa, OR Edes, but a little old woman instead.
“Oh! Hello there young man. What might your name be if I may ask?” she asked, smiling sweetly at his dumbfounded look.
“I... Uhm... I’m sorry, I must have gotten the wrong house. I’m looking for a, er, friend of mine who lives around here,” Cody replied, glancing around. No, he was dead positive this was Edes’ house. He’d bet his life on it.
“You must be Cody, then. At least I assume you’re the man that sweet Edes was talking about. And you look absolutely exhausted! Please, come in and rest. You look like you haven’t slept all night.” And like that, Cody was ushered inside and handed a cup of apple juice and a cookie before he could even register what was going on.
“Wait, how do you-?”
“Your friend and his father had a nasty fight and so they both moved. Or so I’m told, anyways. Drink! If you plan on walking some more you should at least get something in your stomach. What’s that around your wings?” she asked, finally noticing the leather straps securing his wings in place.
“Oh... And they’re... er... Restraints. It’s been a long day,” Cody replied, sighing and taking a bite of the cookie without ever caring to figure out what kind it was. It seemed so long ago that he had been forbidden to eat such confectionaries due to how hyper it ultimately made him. Thankfully the woman didn’t question him, instead grabbing a pair of scissors and cutting him free without a word to which he was grateful. To explain everything he had gone through would take way to long and by then he’d have been hauled back to the facility somehow.
“If I may, what’s your name? And did he leave anything for me?” Cody asked after a while of silence.
“Call me Rosie dearie and yes, he did. But first you should eat and rest, I’m sure he won’t mind if you don’t show up right away,” Rosie replied, flashing him a soft smile. And like that, the two started up a general conversation as she fed him various items that ranged from cookies to apples to carrots to some yogurt. Every time he attempted to leave or question what it was Edes had left, she either changed the subject or gave him something else to eat. It almost made him believe she was the old witch from Hansel and Gretel except for the fact that the witch in that story had fed on children and had been killed.
Thankfully by the time noon fell around she finally gave in, handing him an envelope with an address and some directions in it. “Here, and be careful out there! The city isn’t a place for a sweet young man like you to be out in all alone. Good bye,” Rosie called out as she shut the door, leaving Cody once again to his own devices and a long trek ahead.
Said trek was made to be even longer as it started to rain when he got within a half hour walk from the address he had been given. Cursing wildly at his unfortunate stroke of luck and the rapidly deteriorating afternoon light, Cody quickened his pace to a run and took to the side streets whenever possible. Sure it was dangerous, but one thing few people knew was that gangs tended to stay indoors when it was pouring like it was then. Unless there was something major going on in which case it seriously didn’t matter much at all and you were just as screwed as everyone else.
But, he doubted that anything would happen. Thursday night, businesses open later, rain, yeah, no one really cared to be out late in terrible weather. Still, Cody was cautious as he half ran and half flew along the alleyways and rooftops avoiding the general masses and trying to stay as warm, and dry, as physically possible. Yet, despite all his extra effort he still arrived at the indicated apartment and rang the doorbell while being completely and utterly soaked to the bone and feet incredibly sore and raw. Rosie had lent him some shoes, yes, but they didn’t hold up all that great under great stress and rain.
“Please be home Edes... Please,” Cody muttered under his breath, waiting for the spawn to answer the door. He just hoped Edes wouldn’t slam the door on his face for being incapable of communication for so long... God he was a terrible boyfriend. A terrible ******** boyfriend who didn’t deserve the spawn that was about to open the door.

~*Setting Things Right*~
“You know he’s never going to get better Azrael, and that he isn’t coming back,” Regina sniffed, nose held high as Aenira brushed her hair. Ever since the general word had trickled down that Cody had escaped from the facility he had been held at, Azrael had been excited in hopes that the teen would be coming home again as good as new. No, better than new, he’d be the old Cody that was nice and had fun messing around with him and didn’t steal all that often. Well, more like he did but never all that often or of anything important. Like car keys or the dice from the monopoly game as a prank and to make the game that much more interesting when they were figuring out how to move. Which ended up being several games combined into one and left them laughing so hard their ribs hurt.
“You don’t know that Regina,” Azrael replied coolly, idly playing a game with a man nicknamed Zee. He claimed it was an old nickname from childhood since Xander was a lot more difficult to pronounce as kids and in their language but Ary said otherwise. Yet nobody really cared all that much since the man was cool enough to have a simple letter for a name. Though the subject of names wasn’t on the pumpkin demon’s mind as they once again turned to how much, despite his highest hopes otherwise, Regina was right in her statement. Cody could have gotten fed up and escaped simply because he wanted to. When the greed spawn wanted something, he plotted and planned and got what he wanted by any means necessary, usually based on insane amounts of cunning and mental superiority.
“It’s obvious to you two as well, yes? Aenira? King Xander? Am I not right in assuming this Cody fellow would break out to return to his old life instead of waiting around to be released if he had indeed gotten better?” Regina asked, blue eyes glancing at the two other people in the room. Neither said a word but it was clear they were hesitant to answer. If they said yes, Azrael would be crushed and if they said no, he’d be insufferable for weeks. “You don’t know Cody like Azrael or I do, Regina. He’s not exactly normal in any sense of the word,” Aenira replied calmly, manipulating the ice queen’s hair into a complicated ringlet up-do of sorts with the air of having done it hundreds of times despite the instruction booklet floating a few feet from her.
“Exactly snob-a**, I know my bro better than any of you. Cody just got tired of that creepy facility and broke out. He’s fine I’m sure,” Azrael replied, moving a couple cards around only to glance up at Zee to say it was his turn.
“Then why hasn’t he appeared anywhere in the past few days? Hm? Nobody knows where he is and mother says thefts have spiked. Perhaps you don’t know him as well as you thought,” Regina replied icily, smirking as the orange haired demon appeared visibly upset by such words.
“That’s a lie. Shut up and let me think.”
“Hmpf. Whatever peasant, think what you wish of this brother of yours. I’m sure he hasn’t changed a bit and is currently plotting his next heist like the criminal he is.”
“I SAID SHUT UP!” Azrael roared, moving to hit or tackle the ice queen and being held back by what had to be described as wind tendrils.
“Azrael! Regina! Enough of this nonsense! Both of you! Who are you to predict and question the judgment and actions of someone as unpredictable as the wind itself? In fact, I-Ary! Someone’s at the door!” Aenira snapped, pausing midsentence to shout up the stairs at the sound of what had to be a motorcycle pulling into the driveway. In moments the white haired woman was at the door and most likely crossing the lawn and conversing with the person who had just arrived.
“Who is it?” Zee asked randomly, speaking for the first time during their entire conversation. Usually the loudest one out of their little group, he had been oddly quiet, puzzling over their card game a little too intensely. “And your move kiddo,” he added, eyes flashing up to Azrael.
“You’ll find out soon enough,” Aenira replied softly, going back to Regina’s hair without another word. Outside the talking grew louder, turning to argumentative only to cease at random without any reasoning why.
“Azrael! Get your stuff and get your rear end down here! You’re leaving,” Ary shouted inside, giving the demon a soft scowl before returning outside to speak with whoever was there. Azrael gave her an odd look, gaze switching to Zee who simply shrugged. Aenira and Regina didn’t offer any bits of advice or even anything more than a just as curious look. Sighing, the demon turned and headed off to his room, returning with his stuff packed after about twenty minutes. “Ary, I’ve got all my stuff. Is mom here to pick me up, then?” he asked, noticing the white haired woman was standing in the doorway blocking his view of whomever was on the other side.
“No, she’s not here. I just need your stuff packed up for later when she does. Zee! You like motorcycles right? There’s one outside for you to fix,” Ary called over to her boyfriend, beckoning the person outside to come in before flopping onto the couch herself. As soon as she moved, the sound of luggage dropping and gently hitting the floor echoed through the room.
“Hey Azzy, long time no see,” the man spoke, pink hair being swept out of his face to reveal a huge grin plastered on his face.
“Cody? You... you’re back? What’s going on?” Azrael asked, wiping the grin off of his older brother’s face almost instantly.
“Well... It’s a long story. Was hoping you and I could hang out for a while and discuss things before getting you back to mom,” Cody replied softly, looking insanely guilty about something. Shuffling a little bit, his gaze then turned to the other people in the room, frowning a little in confusion at the numbers. “Seems like you guys have had some fun times here,” he added, switching his gaze back to Azrael who apparently had no idea what to do.
“So you broke out to-“
“Because I was being cooped up and tied to a table when that was getting me nowhere. I broke out to... to see someone. Then I came here to grab you and then head over to mom’s. What’s so honestly difficult about that plan?” Cody asked, crossing his arms and eyeing the orange-haired demon for several long moments as he struggled to reply.
“You went to see-HEY! PUT ME DOWN!” Azrael yelped as he was suddenly thrown over Cody’s shoulder. “CODY! PUT ME DOWN!” he laughed, squirming a little as the hybrid tickled him a bit.
“Nope. No can do li’l bro. See ya Ary, Regina, Aenira, and uhm...” Cody stopped, frowning at the little shadow creatures who two of which seemed to be a little upset about Azrael being ‘kidnapped’.
“Don’t worry about them. Just get outta my damned house,” Ary replied, waving a hand dismissively. They’d understand eventually whether she had to explain it eight times or wait till they figured it out on their own. No matter what, the demon was eventually leaving for an extended period of time and thus she wouldn’t have to deal with him and Regina constantly bickering. At least it had calmed down from near blows to simple insults and growled comments. Now all she had to do was get rid of Aenira and Regina and the shadow fiends and things would be great again.
Cody simply nodded, heading out the door with Azrael squirming on his shoulder. It felt good to see his brother again, especially sane and not pondering various ways to exploit his little gift for granting luck to people. He almost forgot he had grown and how, well, good looking his brother was turning out to be. He couldn’t help but feel guilty at how terrible of a big brother he had been as of recently
“Cody! Can you PLEASE put me down? Where in the world are we going anyways?” Azrael asked, blinking as he was indeed placed down on the ground next to the tall being that was his brother. When the hell did Cody get so tall? He was monstrous in height compared to him. How could he ever compete with that?
“Well, a little birdie told me you liked to take long walks and it’s a long way from here back home so I figured we could talk along the way. It’s been a while since we really talked and stuff and besides, I figured you probably think I’m a horrible a*****e for all the things I’ve done. And hey, if we just happen to pass by an ice cream stand I might just buy some for us,” Cody replied, flashing Azrael a huge grin. The orange-haired demon said nothing but started walking down the sidewalk in the general direction of home.
“Why did you really leave the labs? What the hell happened to you anyways?” Azrael asked after almost ten minutes of painful silence.
“Well... I suppose it’s kinda pointless to hide it now. I escaped to be with Edes and I plan on marrying him as soon as I get a steady job. Ary hinted at getting me one through some extended favors people owe her, but I need to get everything settled first which brings me to your, ah, second question.” Cody paused, shuffling a little in embarrassment. “I have a split personality. Before I had no memories of it since it was as if they were two separate people sharing my brain. At the facility that changed, which allowed me to escape relatively sane and to keep me as such I’m also planning on seeing a therapist to help keep the two stuck together. Does that make sense?”
Azrael simply nodded, stomach dropping painfully. Cody... getting married? He’d lose his big brother forever! “And if I said I will do everything in my power to keep you from getting married?”
Cody sighed, knowing he’d hit this sort of speed bump. “Azrael...” “No! Don’t ‘Azrael’ me! I don’t want to lose my only big brother! I had to deal with Ary and that brat Regina for three months because of you! You’ve been... been weird for over a year! I just got you back and now you’re letting him take you away? No! I won’t let you!”
“Azrael! Listen to me!” Azrael glared at him but fell silent, clenching his fists. “Azzy, you’ll still be my bro and I’ll visit on the weekends when I have time. I had to grow up sometime and Edes... You have no idea how I feel about him. Edes is my world and nothing else matters some days. Do you even know where his apartment is? It’s about a fifteen minute walk from home. I came back to fix things, li’l bro, not destroy things.” Cody sighed as Azrael dropped his gaze, crossing his arms.
“You’ll be the ring bearer. Or the best man. Personally I couldn’t care which you wanted to be. I’m not giving up on you, nor am I letting you try and ruin this. I saw the way you looked at that girl, Regina is it? Heh, you like her, don’t you?” Cody asked, laughing at the deep purple blush that took over his face. “Exactly. Let’s grab some ice cream and then start talking. It’s a long walk home.” And it was. The two walked, eating ice cream and talking about nearly everything they could think of no matter how weird it might be. They strayed mostly from the past mentality state of the greed spawn, preferring to dodge around the topic as much as possible. It wasn’t long to them until they reached the Ashanti household, knocking lightly on the door.

~*Setting Things Right*~ ~*Part 2*~
It wasn’t long till Shadai answered the door, peeking around to look curiously at them. “Yes? Oh my... Is-is that... Cody?” she gasped, opening the door farther. Cody would have flinched at how frail she was looking. It appeared she hadn’t been eating or sleeping much at all and one look at the house confirmed she hadn’t been keeping house much either. Everything was either dusty or dirty in some way, shape, or form. “Hey mom,” Cody muttered, enveloping the woman in a hug, holding her tightly in hopes of never letting go. The two stood there for several long minutes, breaking away to head inside.
“I... What’s-“ “Shh, I’ll explain everything. I’m really sorry about what I’ve done and put you through for starters. It wasn’t fair to any of you and for that, I’m sorry beyond words. I swear, things are only going to get better from here and if it doesn’t I’ll put myself at your mercy,” Cody interrupted, leading the Egyptian to the couch. “But first, let me get you something to eat. I’m sure Azrael isn’t hungry since he downed practically his weight in ice cream on the way here,” he muttered, eyes glancing over at the orange haired demon. Azrael flashed them a sheepish grin as he plopped down next to them. Shadai said nothing, preferring to fuss over the older spawn’s hair or clothes as if making sure he really was there.
With a soft sigh, he got up and wandered into the kitchen, returning with tea and varying snacks. “I really missed you mom. I feel so guilty putting you through all that. You AND Azrael. I can’t stay for more than a couple days, though. I made I promise to return.” At this Shadai looked up, biting her lip only to give him a questioning look at her sons at the snickers and blushing. “Promise to who?” she asked softly, sipping her drink.
“Edes. I plan on marrying him once I get a stable job and buy a ring. Heh, he said he’d come after me if I didn’t return when I said and Ary’s already offered me a possible position somewhere. Said I’d be perfect there,” Cody replied, the pink blush refusing to leave his face.
Shadai nodded knowingly, giggling softly. “I always knew you two would be together. Ary did not believe me when I said it, saying you would find yourself a nice girl but I knew you two would get together someday. I never realized how strong of a bond you two would form after whatever happened to you. If I may ask, what did happen? I was never informed of anything and had wondered if you had died or went completely... Completely...” she trailed off, staring into the lightly steaming brown drink.
“If I went completely insane,” he completed with a sigh. “No, and you aren’t to blame. From the beginning my personality was fractured but still whole. Over the years it eventually split and fought for control in a sense, eventually turning me into what I became towards the end. These personalities were more of a, ah, embodiment of either side. The side that kept getting into trouble and yelling was my mostly greed half while the other was patience. It wasn’t till I essentially went nuclear at the facility that I figured it out for real. From there I managed to gain control and start stitching myself back together. Unfortunately,” he paused, grimacing a little, “I was unable to leave and continue healing at home. Aden kept me at the facility in an attempt to get me completely better. Obviously I lost my patience and broke out. Not today, I assure you. It was last night, actually, and I ran back to Edes’ place, hence why I have to return. I plan on moving in after all,” Cody finished, shifting a little in his seat as he realized the Egyptian was studying him closely.
“And I get to be the best man at their wedding,” Azrael commented randomly, smirking as the two laughed. “Yeah, yeah, whatever you say li’l bro. Anyways, mom, if there’s anything you request of me, I’d like to know. I plan on spending the night here and gathering up my stuff. Actually, that might take a while. I’m not sure when I cleaned it last...” Azrael laughed, remembering the mess of a room his older brother kept. It would take a week at most if he planned on moving all of it out. Knowing him, though, he’d try and keep a mini horde back in his room for safe keeping.
“You sure you won’t need some flame throwers or a bulldozer? Last I remember you could barely open the door without something blocking the way,” he teased, crying out as Cody pulled him close for a noogie. “HEY! My hair! I spent AGES getting it right!” he cried, struggling to get away. Cody laughed and released him, laughing even more as the pumpkin demon furiously tried to fix it. “You are the most prideful thing I have ever met Azzy. Nothing’s changed much, has it?” The two of them laughed for a moment only to realize Shadai was crying.
“Mom? What’s-!” “Oh, it’s nothing. It’s just... I’ve missed you two so much. I should call-“ “No need. Azzy’s all packed up. Ary’s boyfriend will bring it over when I call them. I’ve got an appointment set up with a therapist tomorrow. No idea how it’ll go, though,” Cody explained, grinning. Everything was getting back to normal. Already Shadai was looking tons better. Sure the dark circles and hungry look remained, but the life of the African wilderness was back. That ancient Egyptian feel to her renewed and back in full force. “Thank you. Come, we should have a party to honor your return. If I may ask, is it... still...”
Cody nodded. “Yeah. At the labs, under great stress this mentality would fracture and revert to a personality. Depends on the situation, though. Normally, since I was tied down, I just shouted a bunch at Aden or the person who was annoying me,” he replied, giving his mom another hug. “Let me cook. You look exhaust-Hey!” He laughed and pulled away as Shadai slapped him teasingly on the shoulder.
“I am still young if you must know. I can cook for myself and an army still and I will not be babied by my eldest son simply because I stayed up a few extra nights and forgot to eat on others. You may, however, help me put together the meal and possibly take my car to the store for ingredients upon being needed but I won’t have you cooking everything. Knowing you, you’d burn my house down,” Shadai teased, standing up and striding into the kitchen. Moments later the sounds of cooking started to emanate from the kitchen. Grinning at each other, Cody and Azrael high fived one another. It was good to be back.

Cody's Journal
Dear Journal,
Wow... It's been a while, huh? Forgot you even existed there for a bit, even. Guess that means I should get started on what's all been happening.
First, I essentially went insane, got locked up at the facility and then broke out and ran to Edes' house. Problem was, he'd moved so I trekked across town in the rain to his apartment. You have no idea how miserable I was. I half expected him to have found another or... or to shun me where I stood but he didn't. He let me in, fed me, and made me promise to never leave. Er... more be home in the evenings for him. He's a student teacher to elementary school kids now, it's so cute. I can imagine them all loving him like I did when we were young and I hadn't-yeah.
So, I told him I'd have to go home and set things right. I dragged Azzy home (my god I missed him) and got the family together and broke the news to mom. She's thrilled, if not still a little sad about me leaving. You have no idea how much stuff I had to move out and sell. Speaking of selling, I'm thinking about proposing to Edes. Yes, yes, it's weird and you can't believe I sold any of my treasure but I did. Still have to buy the ring though...
Anyways, back to the present. I went to a therapist earlier today and I have to say, I've never felt more drained in my life. For the first time, I was aware of my personality splitting, each one taking over and acting out while I, the combined mind of them, sat back while also acted out. It was so strange and frightening. Don't tell Edes though. Supposed to go in for a few more sessions, but she gave me some meds to take in hopes of helping with my problem. Still can't believe I could act like that...
Oh, there's Edes. I hope he doesn't mind that I added some decorations to the apartment. God knows how much it needed it. See ya.

Romantic Date For Two? Cody had gone to such lengths to make sure the date was perfect that he hadn't realized what day it was in the first place. Sure he'd missed Valentine's Day by a week or so, but that didn't stop him. No, by far that gave him extra incentive to make sure this date would make up for that fact and everything else he'd done. Leaving a little note with a Hershey's Kiss next to it on the apartment table, the greed spawn made sure to leave another note with directions somewhere Edes would find it.
Of course, the little trail of rose petals to it had been a major plus as well. Not to mention placing a really soft puppy pillow pet at the end with said note tied around its neck would certainly do the trick ultimately. With the plan enacted, he just had to make sure he had skates rented and the outdoor skating rink was indeed open. And that the park they'd go to after was still decorated with the beautiful lights they had put up for the holidays. It wouldn't be a date if the rink was closed and the park back to it's boring old self.
Thankfully both were still open and beautifully decorated so everything was cool. He just needed to wait till later and hopefully not forget anything. With a sigh, Cody settled onto a bench, checking for what must have been the hundredth time that the object was still in his pocket. "Gah, tonight's got to be great or else," he muttered, checking his watch.
The First Note Dear Edes, my one and only Love; Tonight is a night you will never forget, a night of magic and awe. Take this sweet kiss in replacement of the one I would give you if I were there. I promise you a thousand fold later if you so desire. I love you, never forget it, and would travel to the ends of the earth or wait an eternity for you. Find my second note, you will find our date and a special treat waiting for you. Love, Cody The Second Note Dear Love, Dress warm for ice skating at 3. Don't be late~<3 Love, Cody ~ Work, to be honest, was beginning to become more an more stressful, especially with the return of his beloved boy. He woke up early in the morning, which felt like all hell, due to his inability to even wake up at noon, and moved out of bed, rolling out so that he would not disturb his lover who slept beside him at night. Then the normal routine of getting ready, though it seemed almost automatic, for by the time he was at the breakfast table, He couldn't remember at all what he had done! Sometimes Cody would be there, sometimes he would not, but he always made sure his love's breakfast was ready before he left for work..
He was running out of steam, and fast... More and more, he wanted to just curl up and sleep the day away, but... That was more than Impossible due to the extent by which he was depended on.. He loved every moment, but he needed a break..
A breath of relief escaped him as he returned to his apartment on a Sunny Friday afternoon, bundled up tighter than a Caterpillar, with his nose a pretty cherry color from the cold.
"Cody!! I'm Home!!" He called out, slowly peeling away layer after layer of clothing, before settling down in a slim pair of jeans and a overly large sweater. It was a green color, one that matched his lover's eyes.. When he received no response, he looked around, to find a lone petal in the doorway to the living room.
"What the...?" With his ears perking up with curiosity, he followed the trail. It changed to one petal, to two.. to seven, to a countless number of sweetly scented petals, covering his small coffee table, and ending surrounding a rather plus puppy pillow.
"Cody...." His words were a sigh, but not a saddened one, no, it was one of the rather love-struck kind. The note beside him was the first thing that met his fingertips, a sweet note with a chocolate kiss beside it. The words, so sweet, caused his cheeks to blush, and with much happiness, he placed the kiss into his mouth, savoring it's sweetness, though in no way did it even compare to the real thing. He placed the first note where it once was.
As he picked up the toy, a note came loose from around it's neck. It was soft and plushy in his fingers...
"Hehe... Looks like we'll have someone different in our bed, hmm?" He murmured softly to the toy, giving it a kiss on it's black nose before picking up the next note, reading that one as well. "W-what...?"
His gaze turned to the clock again... it was 2:45 pm.
"Crap!!!" He dropped the puppy pillow back onto the table, making sure it was alright, before replacing the layer's he had just taken off, grabbing his skates, and dashing to the park.
"Crap crap crap!" He chanted the entire way, his chest moving a mile a minute, trying to get to the park on time! Soon enough, his eyes rested on the one he held dear, and a smile crept onto his lips. Unable to stop himself, he crashed into Cody, not enough to knock him down, but enough that made him dizzy.
"I... hope... I made... It... On time..." He wheezed, beaming up at his lover.
~
Cody stumbled back a bit, laughing at how rushed Edes looked. "You did, no worries," he replied, enveloping him in a soft hug. Hell, if the spawn had been almost an HOUR late it would still be on time for him. He'd wait no matter what, so long as the one he was waiting for showed up. Time and time again, he did so who was he to complain about waiting a few extra minutes out in the cold?
"I assume you found my gift?" he asked, brushing away loose strands of hair from the boy's face. It seemed so long ago that they had fallen asleep in that library, becoming fast friends after that and then some as time aged on. "Picked it out a while ago, actually. Figured you would enjoy it if I'm ever not there," Cody continued, a soft smile appearing on his lips for a moment.
"I suppose we should head off to go do what we had originally intended to do, yes? The pond near here is set up for skating." Moving a little so Edes could see, he pointed to where several people were already skating around on the smooth, icy surface of the frozen pond. The one who owned it was pretty good at keeping the water frozen and smooth, using a very small smell on the pond for a few months each year. It was nice when indoor skating rinks were too much of a hassle, provided one had their own skates.
~
One of the things Edes loved most about Cody was his fingertips.. They way they gently touched his cheeks, stroking his sides, holding him close, keeping him warm and safe... It was a bit indescribable, but it always sent his cheeks blazing. As they were now, they were dusted such a sweet shade of pink, rivaling that of Cody's hair.
He turned just a bit, to kiss those very ones that brushed away the strands from cheeks. Then leaned into the embrace.
"It's adorable.. Thank you, sweetie.. I really do love it. It's soft and cuddly like you~ " His words were soft, hiding behind a giggle. As the other pointed to the frozen pond just beyond the trees before them... It was small, and quaint, and very secluded.. If it wasn't for the fact that this was CODY, he would have panicked, thinking there was something devious about this. .... Well.. Maybe there was, but he trusted the boy who always came for him.
"I'll beat you there~" Edes sang out to the other, hurrying over to the edge of the ice, and slipping on his skates, before standing and skating away, blowing a kiss in Cody's direction. "Bet you can't catch me, darling~"
~
Cody smiled at the soft kiss, running a hand through those curly brown locks that he loved. Always soft and perfect, just like Edes. “You’re welcome, and really now, I’m sure I’m the cuddlier of the two,” he replied teasingly, poking the boy’s nose softly. “Because I don’t want to be beaten by a stuffed animal at such a thing,” he laughed, finding the thought too amusing. Edes preferring a toy over him, psh. Yeah, right.
Laughing at the challenge of a race, he ran after Edes while making sure he won. What point was there in winning anyways? Racing to the edge and pulling the skates on, Cody ended up skating rather clumsily onto the ice moments after Edes had. “Why should we bet on that when we both know I can’t,” he called out, chuckling softly. Damn, he’d forgotten how terrible he was at skating and anything else relying on balance.
Oh well. If Edes had fun who was he to care how terrible he was? Skating after said boy, concentrating hard on not falling or running into someone else, Cody slowly started to catch up. Maybe he’d survive the day without crashing into the icy surface after all...
~
Their time apart had made the Kindness/Sloth spawn realize the little things that Cody had that made him love the other so.. The way he laughed, with his eyes lighting up like a million fireflies simply set his heart ablaze in the most fantastic of ways. And his laugh... Oh his sweet boy's laugh... As strong as thunder, but as sweet as the chocolate that had graced his lips mere minutes before.
But then again... There were the times where he did not look near as strong as he seemed, turning around on the ice, skating backwards for a few moments, he watched Cody struggle onto it, wobbling and tipping like a teeter-totter, but smiling all the same, trying his best to catch up with him.
"Yeah, I know, but it's fun playing together, reminds me of when we were young~" He began to skate towards the other, getting close enough to circle around him a few times, before pulling in close to him, gripping both of his hands with his own, not only providing support, but giving him some warmth as well.
"You know... You've always held my hand for me when we were just little ones... How about I do the same for you today?"
~
Cody smiled as Edes finally came to the rescue, holding his hands gently as they skated. “That sounds great, love,” he replied, slowly trying to skate more on his own and relying on his lover’s help less and less. Balance issues, they were never the easiest to get over, but at least he had Edes there for support all the way.
“Yeah, it was fun back then when we were so little. Seems like forever since that day in the library, huh?” he asked, flashing the boy another smile. He could do this! He had wings and the ability to steady himself using wind magic! So why in the world did it feel like he was about to topple over every other moment?
“And it almost feels like it was yesterday too, strange huh?” Looking up from his feet, his eyes locked onto those soft pink ones that belonged to Edes. Even if he wouldn’t admit to it, Cody still felt they were the prettiest he had ever seen. Especially when the sun caught them, making them glitter and sparkle like pink diamonds. And they were his pink gems to forever stare at and keep for himself.
~
With their hands laced together, he led the other around the pond in little circles, allowing the boy to gain a better footing on the ice.
"Forever ago, yet so much is the same.. I still adore it when you wrap your wings around me, creating a little cove that's nothing but us. You make me feel so safe." As their eyes met, he turned away, an instance of shyness gathering up in his chest, making it's way to his cheeks. Just the idea that something as strong as Cody was.. As handsome, as sweet, as determined as his darling was, could love someone rather plain like him sent him spiraling into a pool of happy Edes' goo.
"The thing about skating, my dear, is that it's not just your feet. It's your arms, your legs, your hips, your heart.. All plays a part in whether you're going to fall or not." He took his hands away from the other, skating away just a bit faster, but facing Cody all the same.
It wasn't the best decision he ever made, because instead of turning, he tripped over the raised edge, and was sent tumbling backwards, landing in a rather deep snowbank beside the rink.
~
“I love it when you cuddle with me and fall asleep. It’s so peaceful and calming, just being together and alone,” Cody replied, also loving doing such a thing to him. Just being with Edes was the best thing ever in his mind with no moment too dull or boring or something not to be cherished. From the little things like the way Edes blushed and shied away to bigger things such as skating together on a frozen pond, each moment was special and amazing.
As Edes let go, Cody magically managed to stay upright without flailing and stumbling. Yet, once Edes tripped over the bank and fell into the snow on the other side the greed spawn unfortunately followed suit. It wasn’t like he really knew how to stop, nor had he seen the edge till it was far too late. Tumbling down and landing next to Edes, he couldn’t help but laugh a little.
“Wow that was fun. You alright Edes?” he called out, flapping his wings to get the snow off of them before it could melt and refreeze to them. An incredibly unpleasant way to get frostbite, that was for sure.
~
When he had fallen, he had landed back first, so that most of his wings took the fall, and now they were covered in snow, changing from gray color, to one of a near startling white. He rather liked the change, personally, white was simply more stunning then mere gray.
"Gah!!" He shouted as the other came falling after him, but managed to land beside him, rather than on him. And with that, Edes broke into a soft, laughter. He never could laugh loudly, always laughing in a way that was quiet, but just as intense, the same sort of laughter that ended up with your hands on your stomach, and you found it hard to breath. Amid his laughter, he stood up, helping to pull his darling out of the snow.
"I-I'm fine!! That was hilarious!" his voice rang out, lathered in laughter, and he gave is wings a strong flap, ridding them of snow. But now... He was getting cold. Landing in snow is never good for warmth...
"How about we go get hot cocoa?" He suggested, moving to press himself up against the other in an innocent manner, only seeking out the warmth that the other gave.
~
Cody couldn’t help but laugh as well at the whole thing. Edes’ laughter was contagious, especially when they were a part of the whole thing. No matter what it was, he couldn’t help but laugh along with his lover whenever he felt something was horribly amusing.
Taking Edes’ offered hand, Cody managed to stand and shake off the rest of the snow that had accumulated on his form during the fall. Moments after clearing the powdery white substance, he was latched onto by something else. This time, something alive and very cold apparently. “Sure. There’s a little stand on the main pathway not too far,” he replied, placing a soft kiss on his lover’s forehead.
Wrapping his wing around the boy, he led them up to where they could change shoes. It may have felt like they were only on the ice for a few minutes, but they had been actually skating around for well over an hour. By now a good chunk of the skaters had left and premature darkness was beginning to settle upon them. Thankfully the park’s pathways were well lit with Christmas lights and old-fashioned lamps.
~
"Wonderful!" He clapped his mittened hands, wading out of the snow bank back to being protected by wings of a different sort. In a way, he was slightly jealous of the wings that Cody had. They didn't get wet in the same way his own did, and they were so sleek....
As he reached the top, he plopped down back into the snow, changing from his iceskates to his normal boots, a pair that Cody had helped him pick out not too long ago.
"I love these boots. They are so soft and warm, like being hugged over and over again." He murmured to himself, beaming at his lover, and standing back up, letting his skates hang over his shoulder.
He took off one of his mittens, and instead, laced his fingertips with the other's, blushing. He honestly hated his hands being seen. They were pretty hands, nicely clawed, and not too thin, nor too thick, but.. Something about them just made him afraid to show them to anyone. He longed for Cody's warmth, and he didn't care about that right now, especially how his hand fit the Greed/Patience spawn's perfectly.
Humming, and swinging their hands back and forth like a 5 year old, he made their way over to the stand, buying them both cocoa. Before Cody could do anything, he had paid for it, handing the other his cup.
"My treat, love."
~
As Edes plopped down in the snow, Cody remained standing and managing to change out his skates for his boots without toppling over somehow. “I’m glad you like them,” he murmured, chuckling softly at the boy’s description of what it felt like to wear them. At least he was good at something shopping-wise that didn’t involve the value of something and comparing it to another. Shoes, boots, all went by comfort and only occasionally on how well they were made.
Of which he had the most trouble figuring out values OF. Gems were easy, clothing and the like were horrible to tell apart as they varied only slightly most of the time. Taking Edes hand, he allowed the boy to swing them back and forth without much of a care. It was cute and amusing how happy his lover was and how he acted like a child at times. In a good way of course.
“Fine, thought I was the one that was supposed to treat you,” Cody teased, taking the cup without much in the way of arguing. If Edes wanted to pay, then so be it. “Come, there’s something I wanted to show you,” he added, heart pounding softly in his chest just thinking about what he was going to do in such a short amount of time. He didn’t even WANT to think about what would happen if things went badly.
Linking back their free hands, the taller spawn led the way down the winding path that showed off the beauty of the park the best. Not many traveled the path, which was a shame in his opinion. Drinking the hot cocoa slowly, green-blue eyes occasionally glanced over at the spawn huddled under his outstretched wing. With every glance, a soft smile graced his lips. Soon, the spawn would be his forever and the world would know it.
~
"Of course I'm going to treat you! I'm the man in this relationship after all!" Just the simple thought of that made him laugh pretty hard, and he was forced to be careful, as to not drop any of the cocoa on himself. As if he could ever... You know... Um... Be the man. He loved being made to feel small under Cody, and he loved to be showered with affection... To be honest.... There was something inside him that wanted to be claimed as the other's forever. No. What was he thinking, the other spawn had claimed him long, long ago, there was no doubt about that.
From the time they had been in the prison together, to their first date at the beach, to now, while they walked down the wintry path, hand in hand, in a peaceful, gentle silence, there was not a single moment where Edes could remember not ever being without Cody. With a small smile, he finished the last bit of cocoa he had, tossing it in the trash can nearby, never once leaving Cody's Side.
Well, sure, there were those times where it seemed like they were so far apart.. But even then... His now free hand reached up, touching the necklace that the other gave him so long ago... He never took it off, except for when he showered.. It reminded him of everything they've been through, of all the love they shared between each other.. If anything, he never wanted this happiness to end..
~
“Oh really?” Cody laughed, knowing full well Edes was joking. But he didn’t mind it at all, being the man of their relationship and whatnot. It was tons more fun knowing all of his lover’s little desires and making as many of them come true in some way, shape, or form. Not to mention protecting him from the dangers of the outside world that had come close to snuffing out what they had time and time again.
Sipping down the last of his cocoa, he tossed the cup away and gently steered Edes down the path that led to the fountain that rested in the center of the park. Due to the cold weather it happened to be turned off with a magnificent display of ice where the jets usually were. He supposed there was some benefits to magic if it could create things like this.
“Edes... I know I’ve been a jerk and a pain at times, sometimes bordering on insane,” Cody paused as they came to the edge of the path and the beginning of the walkway around the fountain. “And that despite it all, you’ve been there for me, through all the crap I made you put up with and then some. To make up for that, and anything else just as stupid I may do and to make sure I can never leave your side again I have one thing to ask...” he trailed off, heart pounding. What was he doing?! This was crazy; of COURSE Edes was going to say no after that terrible speech. Pulling the boy to a stop next to the frozen fountain, he slipped a small black box from his pocket and dropped himself down to one knee, revealing the ring as he spoke his next few words.
“Will you marry me?”
~
"Yeah Really! It's my job, my duty, and it's what I want. To protect you, that is." It was all true. But he supposed the protection he had to offer was much, much different than that of the protection that Cody offered him. He himself was not physically strong, nor was he quickest. Hell, he was the slowest person he knew! The only reasons he could even relatively protect himself was because when he panicked, faced with danger, he near blacked out, and did only that which could enable him to run away. That's beside the point. The protection he offered was one that had him hold Cody tightly at night, that allowed him to hold his hand, to prove that he accepted the other boy no matter what happened. At least, that's how he himself thought of it anyway.
The more they walked, the more unfamiliar the place became. The path became narrower, and the trees began to cross overhead, creating an almost tunnel effect. Breathtaking. At the end of the pathway, a fountain rested, strong and powerful, it's jets turned off to create the most stunning of displays, Almost as if time stopped in the little world around them.
And it very well did... The boy who was so powerful, so strong and unbeatable in his eyes, nervous and rambling, dropped to one knee, pulling out something he had only thought existed in fairy tales.
"....." He tried to move his mouth, simply paused by the display, and the words just wouldn't come out, even though he knew the answer. There was just one answer that could have even be considered!
"Yes, Cody... I'll marry you... A-and you will be mine forever, as I will be yours." Tears were brimming in his eyes as he allowed Cody to slip the ring on to his finger, and his arms reached up to pull down Cody for a gentle, sweet, and filled with love kiss. Here, in this hidden area, only two beings existed at that time, and both could not live without the other. Such is how life, love, should be.
For the longest time, he did not believe there were such things as 'happy endings' in this world, especially for himself, with all the pain and suffering he and his loved one's went through. But now he realized... Yes, fairy tales are just that, fairy tales, but it was entirely possible to create something of the sorts for yourself. He had found that proof in Cody. His love, his best friend, his protector, and now, more recently, his fiancée.
~
Cody held his breath, waiting for Edes to answer him. The suspense nearly killed him as his heart thudded painfully in his chest. The possibility of him saying no was painfully obvious, especially after such a horribly lame speech beforehand. He was such an idiot, why did he have to say any of that anyhow?
Yet, as soon as he said yes, all his nerves vanished and were replaced by absolute sheer joy. Nothing in the whole world at that very moment could have made him any happier. Sure they had yet to make it official, but his lover, no, his fiancée was his and his alone from now till the day time stopped and the universe collapsed in upon itself.
Slipping the ring onto Edes’ finger, Cody let himself be pulled close for a kiss. Nothing mattered anymore, for they could get through anything. Now and forever, they’d tackle any problem together. No more being alone or weathering storms apart. “I love you Edes, so much,” he murmured, returning the loving kiss. Things certainly couldn’t have gone any better. “Mm, and I’ve been meaning to tell you that I got a job. It’s a minor job at the jewelry store in the mall and I have roughly the same hours as you. We won’t be so strapped for money anymore too,” he added, feeling it was probably necessary to say such a thing now that they were engaged.
~
"I love you too, my darling..." His words were murmured as he pressed his cheek to the other's chest, feeling the rapid beating of his heart... He must have been so nervous, so terrified... But... It was all over, and his heart was slowing down back to normal. It was soothing, to say the least.
"That's wonderful news~" Edes looked up at Cody from his spot against the other's chest, beaming at him. "Financial stability, a wonderful home... A handsome, charming, strong Husband to be... I feel like I have everything in the world... Thank you Cody."
~
Cody nodded, relieved that everything seemed to be going well. He had been so scared and worried there for a while... Gently running a hand through Edes’ soft brown curls, his eyes looked down to meet the ones looking so happily up at him. “No problem, love. That’s my job,” he murmured, kissing Edes’ forehead lightly.
“We should probably head home, it’s getting late,” the spawn added, noticing how dark it was getting despite all the lights that were set up. Moving so that Edes was once again holding his hand and protected under a wing, the two set off for their home and taking to the slight winding paths through the park that led to it no longer simply lovers, but engaged to be wed. Such thoughts could wait, though, with no rush to plan such things. Everything was just perfect.
