Amanae unconsciously leaned forward slightly, her eyes widening. Was that...A Tou? She squinted down at the person. No, he was walking, for one thing. A half breed, perhaps? Fascinating.
... Of course, it wasn't as though she could go down and talk to him; Princesses didn't do that sort of thing.
And with that realization, her blithe mood disappeared as quickly as it had come. She straightened with a sigh.
"...Okay, so if it really isn't such a big deal, it shouldn't be any problem for you to tell the Captain that you lost him, should it?" The voice, a deep one that obviously belonged to a mature man, was low and intense behind her.
"Oh, no," replied a second voice angrily, "I didn't lose him, we lost him. And he can't blame us. His Highness uses magic; that isn't exactly playing fair."
"Right. So you're saying that you don't mind being the one to tell the Captain."
"You--"
"Shh!" The first voice interrupted suddenly. A moment later, two guards passed by her, each one stopping briefly to bow and murmur, "Your Highness," before continuing down the stairs into the lower part of the courtyard, still arguing in whispers.
Amanae smiled. Of course, there were a few positive points to being a princess; one of them was that everyone assumed that you had no eardrums unless someone was specifically addressing you. Now she knew that one of the Princes, probably one of the two younger ones, had magic that enabled him to easily trick his guardians. Still smiling, she turned and slowly walked back inside. Interesting.

Grant chuckled as the Tou apologized. "Having a bit of trouble there my b..." He paused for a moment because he had almost made the same mistake again. "...Alexander. We're either both at fault or neither one. Pardon my manners earlier as well." Grant crouched to look Alexander in the eye. "Judging on fist appearances is bad form that we all indulge in." Grant winked at Alexander. Standing back up Grant started walking down the line of his men. "Besides there's no rank among friends now is there?" Grant asked as he reached the end of the line of men and turned around. He looked at Alexander to see his response but was interrupted by the sight of two castle guards coming down the steps. "Excuse me." Grant said giving a slight bow of the head. "You two!" He yelled as he walked towards them. "Why are you away from post?" He asked as he walked up to the men."Umm, well sir. uhh." The men said trying to fight off the shakes. "It's Captain. Now out with it." Grant quickly responded."We were tricked by the price!" They blurted out fallowed by. "Uhh Captain Sir. The young one used his magic again." Grant held his head as he thought. "How many times do I have to tell you. Don't look at his eyes! I'd tell you to go after him but you'd probably screw that one up to! Get back to you post, NOW!!" Grant shouted in frustration. He rubbed his temples and thought for a moment. "Niro! Front and center!"Niro almost jumped at the sound of his name being called and then quickly made his way to the front of the group. "Sir.. I mean Captain?" Niro said stumbling over his words. "huuu." Grant sighed because this wasn't the first time this had happened. "Run in to town and try to fetch the prince for me." Grant then looked at Niro. "And for God's sake don't look him in the eyes. Got it?! O, and wile your at it go to the black smith and get fitted for some Knights armor. Give them this and you'll be all set." Grant handed Niro a letter. "Now Go."Niro held on to the letter and made his way briskly towards the main gate. "I won't let you down Capt-AIN!!" Niro tripped and landed in the mud as the letter gently floated to the ground. Getting to his feet quickly Nira gave a big cheesy smile at grant before quickly getting the letter and heading for town.

"Here, why don't you send everyone a round of drinks on me," the Prince smirked as he pushed a few gold coins to the bartender, making sure that his lady friend could clearly see his full wallet.
"Wow, like, where did you get that?" the ditsy elf asked as she twirled her golden hair.
"Why don't we go outside and I'll show ya?" Cyrith responded in the commoner slang he had learned over the years, staring directly into her blue eyes. Back in the castle, the slightest grammatical error was a punishable offense, but here, most people do not even know the full versions of their words. With his first lady of the day, Cyrith exited the pub with the cheers of the thankful patrons.

Jewlet made her way out of the mess room and headed back down to the court yard. Once out in the court yard, she saw that it had gotten quite lively. She forced a light smile as she made her way through the people. 'Why so many people?' She thought, even though it would be like this every day. Sighing she finally reached where Grant was. Jewlet stopped walking twords Grant. 'He's talking.' She went over to the table and sat Grants food on the stone table. She hadn't gotten a thing for herself, but she only ate lunch whens he was very hungry. She took a seat and waited quietly.

Alexander liked the way Grant thought; no ranks among friends would be just the thing Alexander needed to feel better about his lowly job. In all the weeks being a Minstrel, he only enjoyed the fact that he was entertaining royalty and thus feeling as if he was royalty for just awhile. Even the embarrassing clothes he had to wear during his performance were worth it if he felt important for a shining moment. Still, it was no substitute for the Tou society where everyone was royalty and treated as such.
Grant was busy at the moment; it seemed the Prince had taken another stroll to the outside world. This wasn't a surprise to Alexander since everyone eventually needs to get away from it all and the pressure of becoming King would stress anyone. Alexander needed to prepare for dinner anyway; he was going to play his violin tonight at dinner and needed to get into his Minstrel's outfit. Alexander understood the life of a Captain would be tricky and Grant would often be busy sometimes. What made Alexander respect Grant most was he even went eye to eye with him; most Dirt Bloods didn't respect Tou due to their child appearance, but Grant obviously seemed to see beyond that or he was just being polite. Alexander wanted to smile to show he accepted Grant's kindness, but Tou had a habit of not showing emotion.
"Excuse me as well Grant, I need to get going and ready for tonight's feast; it's my night to play for you all during dinner."
Alexander bowed for a second before heading to the servant's quarters to change into his Minstrel costume.

When Grant was finished he heard Alexander's farewell and turned to bow to him. He then noticed Jewlet was at the stone table. A small smirk came over his face. Looking at the men he said. "At ease men." Grant then started towards Jewlet, giving a small wave.

Jewlet sat there with her eyes down thinking. She was thinking a little bit to hard and she showed it. She looked up and across the court yard keeping her mind active. Then seeing Grant heading towards her, she stood up. "I got your lunch." She said in a calm tone as she held up the food.

Grant reached the table and smiled. "Thank you for getting my food." Grant said as he sat down and started eating. Looking over at Jewlet every now and again. "So, uhh, well, how are you today?" Grant asked not knowing what to say. Grant was acting a little odd around Jewlet. when he wasn't barking out orders or addressing a princess formally he was a bit of a klutz around women.

Alexander's Minstrel costume was the most horrid part of his job as well, a Minstrel. It was a finely woven garment made of patches of color in equal squares to create a colorful pattern: red, yellow, and green, then blue and repeated. There were more serious Minstrel costumes in the castle, but none fit Alexander properly due to his Tou heritage. The costume came with a hat and shoes more fit for a jester that fit the same pattern on the rest of the costume. Both of them had bells, so everywhere Alexander went they would no where he was while in costume. The suit wasn't even the worst part: it was the Dirt Bloods that told him how adorable he was in the costume. Unfortunately, the costume couldn't hold his daggers like his regular clothes or he would gladly threaten anyone who called him 'adorable'.
The last thing Alexander wanted to do while in his work clothes was go and find Grant again; how was someone going to take a Tou in Minstrel clothes seriously? None the less, it would happen sooner or later and Alexander worked up the courage to keep his composure while greeting Grant again. Alexander left his room in the peasant quarters and went to the courtyard to find Grant busy conversing with another friend or maybe more; Alexander couldn't tell since Dirt Blood romance was so hard to figure out. From the shadows of the archway Alexander stayed hidden and watched the two closely to see if Grant screwed up at all; even friends like to see each other mess up. Alexander had to keep perfectly still while observing Grant and his other friend or his bells would give him away.

Amanae had to admit it; she was lost. More importantly, she was tired. She wanted a nice hot bath and a nap, but there was no way in hell that she was going to ask for help if she could avoid it; the less attention on her, the better, as far as she was concerned. So, she continued to wander throughout the palace, passing through halls, dining rooms, and a kitchen, where the surprised servants stumbled over themselves to get out of her way. Flustered without quite knowing why, she took another sudden turn, only to find herself... back in the courtyard. The lower part this time.
Frustrated, she started to turn and march back into the kitchen, but something in the shadows of a nearby archway caught her eye. She curiously made her way toward it, unconsciously slipping into the absolute silence cultivated on the countless shooting trips throughout her childhood.
Upon seeing who it was, and, more particularly, what he was doing, she smiled. It seemed that she would get to talk to the Tou after all. There was certainly no one around to see her; he had chosen his hiding place well. "I'm not sure if you're aware of this, Sir," she began, quietly enough that the cat-ears of the Captain of the Guard would not pick her words out of the general hum of activity in the courtyard, "But it is generally considered rude to spy.""

Alexander looked towards the woman with his eyes quite wide open in surprise. Not only was it shocking to be surprised while watching Grant and his friend, but the true surprise was the Princess was the woman speaking to him. Alexander didn’t know what to say to her about the whole situation; he technically never got to talk to anyone in the royal family and he assumed that was the case because of his lowly job. The options available from here and now could very well determine one thing: if Alexander could get better Minstrel clothes. Not only was it embarrassing to be caught watching Grant and his friend, but Alexander was also in his Minstrel's outfit; this wasn't turning out too good.
"Princess Amanae, so nice to meet you. I was simply...Waiting to see if Grant would need my help at all...He's a bit nervous I think."
Alexander was just making educated guesses about Grant's situation in order to make his own situation less guilty. The Tou were never known to act accordingly when they were surprised and Alexander made a quick bow before it was too late. The bells on his hat made a small sound, but it was in Alexander’s hope Grant didn't hear it. He was thankful that he remembered to bow; Alexander had heard rumors before that peasants were beheaded when they didn't bow to the royal family. Being a Tou Minstrel was a pretty low standard for a Pure or Impure blooded. However, despite the wants Alexander had, he also did want to actually make a few friends; after so long, he expected to be a lowly peasant for the rest of his life and 43 years were still left in his lifespan for him if he was healthy enough.
"Oh, almost forgot..."
Alexander bowed again before the Princess since he forgot to give out the information required by all peasants to give out in the presence of Royalty.
"Alexander the Minstrel at your service Princess: What can I do for you?"
It was required to say that and every peasant back in the peasant quarters always warned Alexander to do that when greeted by a Royal Family Member in order to not upset them, though it could have been more peasant babble.

Amanae blinked. She had been so excited by the prospect of actually talking to a Tou that she'd failed to take in what he was wearing. She wasn't sure how she had managed to do that; he even had bells on his hat. Seeing them, she winced; wearing something like that would have been humiliating for anyone, but from what she had read, Tou were notoriously prideful. How did he stand it?
Nonetheless, there was only a split second pause before she gave a proper response. "I thank you Alexander; I am simply interested in talking to you, if that is not too much trouble."

"Really? That's it? Oh, how...Delightful."
Alexander was a bit confused about how Dirt Bloods communicated with their lower classed citizens. Tou never ad to worry about lower classes since everyone was either Tou or a Tou Elder; only Dirt Bloods were treated low.
"Sorry for the attire; the job requires me to wear this just in case music is required. Well then, how about you start the conversation? You probably have something much more interesting to talk about then I do; being a peasant doesn't really spark anything interesting in a life time.
It was true: Alexander had nothing interesting to ask or converse about other then the usual and he didn't want to bore the Princess with that. Maybe she had questions about him or what his general opinion was of things in the castle; even if she didn't, Alexander could thinking of nothing interesting enough for someone who probably lead an interesting lifestyle.

Amanae arched an eyebrow, and then smiled. "Actually, that was the first thing I wanted to ask you. What on earth are you doing here? Surely being with your own people would be less frustrating than serving..." She paused, frowning suddenly. "Oh, what was it that they call us... Dust? Mud..." She thought for a second or two more, and then shook her head sharply. "I cannot remember. But... Our company does tend to be unpleasant, does it not? Why put up with it?"
