He liked the hideous, grouchy kitty.
Calaverite was all too pleased to hold the meat-stacked plate up to kitty’s level while he ate, huge maroon eyes staring unblinkingly at his new cat friend the entire time. Cervantite had never before said he’d had a Mauvian. Why wouldn’t he tell Cala something like that? Was it just because he wanted kitty all to himself? It did seem like they were very close, with Gremlin riding on Cervantite’s shoulders like that…
Well, that wouldn’t do. It absolutely wouldn’t do! Cala wanted the kitty to be his best friend, and his best friend only, so he’d have to be on his very best, most excellent behavior if he wanted to win Gremlin’s trust away from some other dumb boy.
Then ugly kitty would ride on his shoulders and follow him around.
He shifted his weight from foot to foot, a little excited, a little impatient, all anticipation. He’d never really had a kitty friend before, but he’d always wanted one. They were the cutest of the animal friends, even though this one was crinkly and naked like a dirty old man. He’d do for now, until Cala found a better one.
He waited very patiently- very best behavior!- until Grelin had torn through most of the meat on the plate, then he shoved the remains and dish at Cervantite. His own plate of treats that he’d piled obnoxiously high was all but forgotten. “Okay, I’m going to go get a bag and cram it with stuff to feed to kitty! And then we can get ready to go like everyone else. Yes, you do something with that, I don’t know what. Okay, hurry up!”
Kitty would adore him by the end of this, he was sure. Especially if he brought more food. This would be a good trip, he could tell. It better be, if he was working so hard to get ready for it.
