Prolixity She walked over to where the Horsewoman stood, observing the construction of the forts. "Ma'am?" she asked. "Is it really okay to leave the rear of the forts unguarded?"
Cybele grinned at the youngling that had approached her. "For the purposes of this exercise, it will serve - these mannequins are not capable of higher-level tactics. If one knows - or believes they know - that their opponent will approach only from one direction, it is best not to split your resources or attention and focus solely on that direction. If there is doubt, however, changing strategies may be the best option."
She looked out over the battlefield of students and mannequins. "If it were easy to judge what your opponent will do, there would be no such thing as War. It is a game, shadow-child. Today, the board looks like this. Tomorrow, it may look different - or you may discover that the board actually was shaped in a different way that you thought. One does the best with what one has, and one always thinks. The danger comes when you think too much, or too little." |

A game? Was fighting a game? Siddie absorbed the thought, mulling it over. If she looked at it that way, it became easier to think in terms of planning and strategy, didn't it? It was less personal, and maybe that was how it needed to be. Thinking about it and knowing what you were doing was the important part.
She bowed respectfully to Cybele. "Thank you for the help, ma'am," she said. "I'll do my best."
She returned to her fort, carrying her bow, determined in a different way than she had been yesterday. Her arms ached, but she would do this right. She wanted the Horsewoman to be proud of her, if even a little.

Muka missed again. His attempt left him wide open for a finaly blow by the mannequin. His FEAR sheild disappeared with a snapping sound and almost immediately the puppet became inert.
The strix panted, worn out from the constant movement.

The next arrow sliced a deep cut across the mannequin's arm, but didn't lodge in the flesh; it apparently felt strange, though, and the mannequin stopped to poke at the flap of skin.
