___05/30/06 In Which Loki Receives a 'Gift'

Mayu
A neatly wrapped package was dropped by the entrance to Loki's house. The said person delivering it huffed as she left the proximities of the mansion, marching off with a scowl on her face.

Quote:
Dear Loki,

You = dead.

smile - Mayu

Yawning, Loki opened the door to go outside, stopping just as his eyes caught sight of the package that sat rather beautifully at his feet. Blinking in confusion, Loki picked it up and opened it, grimacing at the thing inside.

"Obsessive twit..." He muttered, glaring at the doll. She had gotten practically every detail down... and it sickened him a bit. They were kids, for crying out loud!

Stomping back into the house, Loki threw the doll into his drawers and headed back outside, leaving the thing to rot.

Unfortunately, he didn't notice Ka looming around the corner, nor did he realize that Ka was going to look at the 'doll' he had received, prying into his drawers...

___05/30/06 In Which Loki Flirts with the 'Enemy'

(( ORP; Paestri, Loki, Mayu ))

Paestri skipped towards the Legends HQ that day with an extra spring in her step. She was looking forward to seeing new Legends or old ones who have yet to find out she had grown. Malady was with her, naturally, it just didn't seem right not to have it around.

Malady was draped over Paestri's shoulders like an odd stole, its red eyes glowering at everyone that walked by.

"Why are we going there of all places?" it whined.

"Because this is where I met Prana, Gyre, Breena, Eeenie, Mayu, Kevin an' Suds, Chandra, Vava and Loki." she giggled.

Loki had come to the HQ not to seek others in general, but to seek out Mayu. He had left that damn doll at home sitting in his drawer, shuddering at the thought. It wasn't the fact that it was a voodoo doll that frightened him; it was the fact that Mayu, of all the ones to have given him a gift, had given him the doll.

Stepping into the HQ, Loki's face soured as he plopped himself onto the couch, wrinkling his nose. Ink had been here last time he had made himself comfortable on furniture, and not to mention he had recently been in a fight with Demare. The mark on his forehead proved it.

"What now?" He hissed, tilting his head to the side as he felt his lizard-spirit scuttle around in his scarf.

Mayu had found her way to the Legend headquarters once again, a new bunny hat pulled over her head. Kimiko had run out and bought a replacement for her after the.. incident.

In actuality, her new haircut wasn't that bad -- it was nice not having such long hair to brush through every morning. She couldn't stand the charred smell, though.

Pushing open the doors of the HQ, Mayu took a quick peek inside, trying to see if anyone was there. There were two, her friend Paestri.. and Loki.

At first, Paestri wasn't sure how to react upon seeing Loki. He was just so... different from the last time she saw him. And when Mayu came in, Paestri was stunned to find her other friend was just as different! All in a good way of course.

"Mayu!!!" she squealed first, after all the other pink Legend had changed far more than Loki did (at least in her opinion). "Loki!" she chirped with just as much enthusiasm. It was wonderful to find her two friends were her at the same time!

Malady on the other hand wasn't as thrilled by the company. It remembered fragments of Loki, mainly because of how he tasted but Mayu was a total stranger to it. It sneered at both and resorted to coiling around Paestri's waist like a belt, hissing at both of them.

Having reached up to toy with his shorter hair again, Loki let his hands drop as soon as he had seen Mayu, growling with great displeasure.

His hair could stay up a bit unkempt, at the moment. The hyena boy had other matters to attend to.

"Mayu." He allowed a small smile, standing up and walking over to her, reaching up to shove the hat from her head. "One such as you shouldn't hide such pretty hair."

Lue peeked out from the scarf with his beady lizard eyes, giving Malady a dirty look. She was no such spirit, and this made him more than just a bit uneasy.

Mayu grimaced as the hat was snatched from her head, dropping down to reach for it. "Nice to see you again," she forced out through clenched teeth. She wasn't a bit over the hair thing.

She waved at Paestri, however, replying back with a happy chirp of "Pae!" She hadn't seen the pink-haired girl since the closet incident, and that was when they were both toddlers!

"You look different." Paestri states with a grin before skipping towards both Loki and Mayu. "But a good sort of different." she adds giggling before glomping Mayu.

"And and I changed too!" she beams, releasing the silver haired Legend from her embrace and twirling on her heels. "How have you been Loki? Is Vava with you?" she asks, if she had noticed the tension between Mayu and Loki she doesn't seem to show it.

"And I'm just chopped liver." Malady mutters loud enough for both all three Legends to hear.

Loki moved to step on Mayu's hat, but stopped short when he heard Paestri address him, eyes slanting to the side. "Vava...? No, I haven't seen him, nor anyone for that matter..." Crossing his arms, Loki ran his fingers across the bandages that hid his lava-like arm, ignoring Lue for the moment.

"Is it really? Is that why you send love tokens, Mayu?" Loki rolled his eyes.

Mayu snatched the hat from its spot on the ground and dusted it off before placing it back on her head.

"Yeah.. It's a good change. I can finally come to the HQ alone now!" She smiled, remembering back to just a few weeks ago when she still had to be with her guardian to go.. well, anywhere.

"Love tokens?" Mayu asked, confused. "If you're talking about the doll, that was not a love token."

In other circumstances, Paestri would have changed the subject by now. She would have noted that Mayu and Loki weren't getting along well and that she should do something about it. She would have led them to the sofas and asked they sit down. In other circumstances, Paestri would have been capable of feeling awkwardness, and unease.

However, this was not such a circumstance.

"You gave Loki a doll? What kind of doll was it? And why didn't I get one?" she asked with a teasing wink. "So what would you have given him if it was supposed to be a love token?"

Malady groaned, "They obviously don't want to be disturbed. Why don't we leave and come back another day? When there's no one around?" the Intangible suggested in sarcasm.

"One does not spend time on details and the like if it is not a love token, dear Mayu. Perhaps we should speak of this more in private?" Taking her hand gently, Loki kissed the back of it, his lips feeling as if they were on fire.

"Dearest Paestri... you look lovely." An arm wrapped around the black girl's shoulders as he stepped away from the tree girl, letting her hand drop.

A mischevious spark glinted in those crimson eyes of his.

"It was a voodoo doll," Mayu scowled, "with its head torn off. Obviously NOT a love token." She would remember, however, to send Paestri one of her.. better creations.

The Legend would have torn her hand away in disgust if she was not staring at it in disbelief. ...Gross. Grabbing Paestri's arm, she yanked the girl over to her side. "Sorry, Pae," she whispered, then stated in a louder voice, "She's with me." She shot Loki a glare.

Paestri let out a soft squeak of delight upon seeing Loki kiss Mayu's hand. Awwww, just like in those romantic books her mama reads and pretends not to like because it's not believable but the red-head still keeps a lot in stock. She giggled and clapped softly, before blushing at Loki's compliment.

"Thank you, Loki. I think you look better with longer hair though." She adds, she was being honest after all. "But you look good with short hair too."

Blinking, Paestri suddenly finds herself by Mayu's side and giggles.

"It's alright, I was just joking about the doll." she smiles, "And I like the rabbit hat. It's cute, and it suits you."

Malady rolled its eyes and perched atop Paestri's head, "Okay so everyone looks good. Hooray! Break out the sparkly drinks and lets get this thing over and done with!!" it snaps.

Lue, having used Loki's arm as a distraction, now climbed up on Paestri's head and perched next to Malady, now giving Mayu a rather devilish grin. He was eyeing her nose.

"Perhaps I did not make myself clear, wench." Loki smiled softly, though his tone had a low bite to it. As he walked around them both, his wings fluttered slightly, not having seen much day as of lately. Fingers loosely caressed the ends of his scarf, as if welcoming the flame from them.

It was then that he noticed the strap on Paestri's arm, and stopped altogether, staring at it with disbelief. "Y... you kept it...?"

"Thank you," Mayu gave a smile to Paestri. She honestly didn't really like wearing hats, but at least it kind of helped with the charred smell that frilly shampoo couldn't erase.

She had just noticed Malady perched upon Paestri's head, and nodded. "Nice... thingamabobber."

She wasn't quite sure what it was, and felt that the word "thingamabobber" would be most proper to describe it. She shot a sharp glare at the lizard-thing perched next to it, remembering what had happened last time. She covered her nose with one hand, just in case it would attempt something like that again.

"Mama said you shouldn't call a girl a "wench" becuase it's not nice." Paestri found herself stating. There was no malice, no hint of scolding, it was said in a very matter-of-fact tone. She peered up as best as she could to see what it was that was on her head with Malady.

"What's that?" she asked, pointing to Lue. When Loki spoke about the leather strap on her arm, she blushed slightly. "Uh huh, it finally fit me properly so I thought it would be nice to wear it and show you."

Malady was curiously interested in why Mayu covered her nose upon seeing the lizard-thing. "I ain't no thingamabobber, or whatever the hell else you might call me. I'm Malady." it introduced, about damn time someone notice it.

"Mmmm." Loki glanced away, for once, at a loss for words.

Lue snickered, turning his beady eyes on Malady as fire danced across his lizard skin.

"Very well, Malady then." Mayu nodded to the thing, but felt the need to tag on a short phrase. "... still a thingamabobber, though."

She kept her nose covered in case the thing tried a sneak attack later on, and tugged on a hanging ear from her hat idly.

Paestri was supposed to ask Loki something when she felt an odd warmth on her head then began to smell something bad. And then the warmth became unbearable and she let out a loud screech as her hands shot up to the source of the pain. Her hair was on fire!

"And I already told you I ain't- AAAAAAAAUUUUUUGGGGHHHH!!!!" Malady shrieked and began to twist and stretch in agony. The flames weren't the cause, it was Paestri's pain.

"LUE!" Loki snarled, grabbing the lizard and glaring, right before catching Paestri's arm and pulling her to him.

"Calm," He hissed, drawing his hand over the flames and pulling them out, letting them attach to his scarf. "Lue, you and your damn spirit-ticks..."

Lue glowered, hunkering over on the floor.

..What what? Burning? There was a fire in Paestri's hair!

"Don't worry Pae, I'll go get water!" Mayu dashed off, returning a moment later with a large jug of water. She tossed it over the girl's head a second before realizing she was too late.

"...Oops. I'll go get a towel."

Paestri's eyes stung with tears as the fire was extinguished, but they were soon washed away by the jug of water Mayu poured over her head. It did help soothe the pain, although it left the pink Legend wet. Strands of her hair clung to her face as she coughed and gasped.

"I-I'm okay, r-really." She assured them, instinctively reaching out to feel the extent of the fire's damage. There was one particular spot that felt singed beyond hope, and she supposed she'd have to get her hair cut now. "What happened?"

Malady, however, was taking it far worse than Paestri. It was wailing and screaming out profanities like it knew no other words. It curled on top of Paestri's head, sobbing and moaning in horror and disbelief. What had she done to deserve this? It wasn't fair, it wasn't right!

"It's all your fault!!" it snarled, tendrils shooting out at both Loki and Lue though it merely passed straight through them.

Loki turned away, his fist clenched. He really had nothing to say to either of them, and in a helpless gesture, reached up and fiddled with his blonde hair, tying it up to splay down the sides of his head.

Without another word, he turned to walk off.

Mayu returned with a towel she had scavenged from one of the guest bedrooms just in time to see Loki leave. She quirked an eyebrow and waved, then helped mop some of the water off of Paestri's face. She handed the towel to the girl, giving a weak smile.

"Thank you," Paestri replied shakily accpting the towel. "Loki? Where are you going?" she called out, why was he leaving? She hadn't even gotten to talk to him well. She turned to Mayu in confusion, "Did I say something wrong?"

"If he's taking that stupid freak reptile with him then LET him!" Malady spat.

"I'm less of a freak than you are, Malady," Lue murmured, giving the smoke a rather gruesome grin. "At least I have others to call my own." Glancing to his master, Lue shook his head and followed suit, scampering on all fours.

. . . [End for Loki]

___06/02/06 In Which the Gods Plot

"A Meddler, hmmm..." Odin murmured softly, wiggling his fingers over the seeing pool. "Perhaps this will put things in our favor." Gripping his fingers into a fist, Odin growled at the pool, nonetheless still unhappy.

"Huginn!" He beckoned, his voice demanding immediate attention. At once, a tall man came into view, black feathers falling from the neckline of his outfit. Huginn looked much better than before, having had time enough to get used to his new body.

"Yes, my lord?" Questioned the raven, whom bowed halfway, his arm extending across his stomach in an honorable fashion.

"I want you... to fetch this Meddler." The god spoke, drawing his fingers across the pool and pointing out the red haired woman, with black tinges on the ends of her hair.

"What for?" Huginn asked, drawing back as he did so. It wasn't normal for the ravens to ask for any such reasons, but with the new body he had, he found himself doing things that ravens normally never did.

Odin didn't seem to notice.

"Loki has been escaping our grasp for far too long... the soul stealer he avoided, as well as the ice beast, and the spirit of that house..."

"Don't forget Lue," Murmured Huginn, whom allowed a very small smile to taint the edges of his lips.

"Lue, that damned... fire spirit!" The fist came down and collided with the pool, the image disappearing in an instant. "Loki was never meant to live again, nor die in that life and live another! FIND THAT MEDDLER!"

Bowing again and knowing full well not to ask anything more, Huginn left the scene, taking a shortcut to see his brother again. He was worried about Muninn; apparantly, the memories hadn't just gone in the sphere. He knew; he was the expert observer, after all.

A sigh. "Perhaps... Freya was right."

___06/05/06 In Which Freya Observes

"Oh, my." Freya murmured, her long golden hair dangling over one shoulder, the end just threads away from dipping into the seeing pool. Beside her three cats lay, all of different origin; one resembling a seal-point siamese, one jynxed with a bobtail, and the last a kind of mutt, with spots of color all over.

The cats glanced at one another with ears twitching, all of them seemingly uninterested in what was going on; after all, they were what they were - mere cats whom live for the world to serve them, but only they listened to the goddess Freya.

"It seems that Loki is headed in a downward spiral..." Gentle fingers brushed through the braid, and then lifted to dance over the golden jewelry that graced her neck. "Odin is not happy, and soon he will go after the trickster himself, instead of just using his crows." Golden eyes rested on the cats. "Perhaps we should liven things up as well..."

The cats looked at one another, showing their teeth in a grin. Yes, cats playing with a mouse... this would be grand.

___06/06/06 In Which Huginn Meets an Obstacle

Huginn remained silent all the while he was walking. He didn't dare fly, and leave Lue behind - as mischevious as Lue was, though nothing compared to Loki, he still had respect where respect was due. On top of that, the lizard had stuck by Loki's side when no one else would.

He had respect for that.

But from his observations... Huginn was still at a loss as to whether this was the trickster he had known, or someone entirely different. It was true that Loki was indeed mischevious, but was he on the level that the former god was?

"Unghh..." Came a groan, and Huginn halted in his footsteps as soon as he felt Loki move.

"You took quite a beating there," Huginn murmured softly, rolling his shoulders to allow Loki to move onto the ground. The hyena boy did so, grimacing as he moved his arm.

"...feel like s**t..." He muttered, pinning his ears back against his skull.

"Well, that's to be expected-"

"Well done, Huginn. Lue." Another voice murmured softly, and out from the shadows came a well-toned old man, with a grizzly white beard grown out to his midsection. Stroking his cheek, he came upon the raven, whom knelt immediately, though still kept his head up, ever defiant.

"Master Odin." Came the simple reply. Sitting up, Loki put a hand over Lue's neck, keeping it there to steady himself while the lizard huffed, muscles clenching as a guard dog's would.

"Loki... how long you have escaped our grasp."

"Escaped... your grasp?" The boy's eyes narrowed.

"Loki. The great god. The... trickster." The last part was sneered, and Odin raised his head in a haughty manner. "But no more!"

"I'm no god, you dip." Loki hissed, forcing himself to rise. Lue leaned against him to provide support, and Loki relaxed a bit, appreciating the gesture. The fight with Demare had knocked him out a bit, and now a fight against a god... the odds weren't in his favor.

"Ragnarok is over!" Huginn snapped, standing up and rushing in between the god and Loki, but Odin's arm snapped out and grabbed Huginn, tossing him aside if he were a mere doll.

"You'd do that to your own kind?" Loki hissed, his fingers digging into Lue's skin. Lue grimaced, fire brimming along his skin, though his hatred was directed at the god that was approaching him.

"Nothing will stand in my way anymore, Loki. Not even... the trickster himself." A hand snapped out and punched Loki square in the chest, knocking the breath out of him and sending him flying a few feet.

"Even you, Lue... are powerless. A pity you chose such a weak body." Odin turned and sent a punch at Lue, but the lizard narrowly avoided it, sinking teeth into the god's arm. Odin cried out in pain, but grabbed Lue with his free hand and tossed him away.

Mere dolls. That's all they were.

Coughing up blood, Loki forced himself up for the umpteenth time that night, not even noticing when thunder rolled across the sky, and the rain pouring down upon his now frail form.

"I'm sick of everyone telling me what to do... and showing me up... as if I was nothing!!" Staggering to his feet, Loki grabbed his lantern and swung it on Odin, shattering the glass and sending shards everywhere. Odin turned unphased, about to attack Loki again, but was deterred by the large lizard in his face. Arms flailed, and Loki was smacked upside the face again, sprawling on his back in the mud.

Loki's hand brushed against a shard of the glass, and the boy grimaced, feeling blood well up on his palm.

"Damn you all!" Odin cried, and Loki watched as the raven tackled Odin, though was flung off in an instant, colliding with a tree. A small crack was heard from the raven, and his head lolled down onto his chest.

"Huginn..." Loki found himself saying, eyes widening. All this death... all this mayhem, and chaos...

The boy found himself laughing. He didn't even notice when Odin had freed himself, and had picked him up, holding Loki at arm's length.

"Consider this... your term of unemployment." Odin spoke in a low voice, grasping a knife from his robes and readying it to thrust into Loki's heart. Just as soon as he jabbed it forward, his movement suddenly stopped in an instant.

"Checkmate." Loki had his hand shoved towards the god's chest, Odin's blood starting to seep out and down Loki's arm, into Loki's wounds, blood mixing with blood in the rain...

Both the blade and Loki dropped from Odin's hands, and Loki crumpled at the ground, raising his head to see the glass shard sticking out of the god's chest.

His eyes narrowed, and mouth open in a small 'o' shape. He had meant... to deter the other, but...

"How...??" Bellowed the god, growling to the skies as he fell on his own knees, trying to pry the glass shard out of his chest, but to no avail; the wise one known as Odin was dying.

And it was all Loki's fault.

Panting in a panicking fashion, Loki crawled backwards and grabbed the main component for his lantern, eyes growing wider by the second. He had maimed a god... Odin wasn't breathing... oh god he had killed a god...

Stumbling for footing, Loki finally found some way to stand up, and found his legs running, when his mind was completely blank.

He had killed a god... and now there was nothing that could save him.

___06/10/06 In Which Loki Finds a Purpose

She was beautiful.

She sat there beside the fire, laughing as the drink sloshed in her cup.

As if she had nothing to worry about.

As if nothing had gone wrong.

Looking down at the ground, Loki remained silent, biting his lower lip.

Absently, his hand went to his left arm, where the chunk had been bitten out of it, by Demare. That fight... he had lost. And regrettably, as well. But... he was still alive. His eyes went to his hand, flexing it where Odin's blood had gone, seeped into his wounds, though there were still scars where scars should be.

And he had still, a bit regrettibly, killed a god. Killed Odin.

Curled up in his scarf, Lue glanced at him with a sad expression, before curling up away from all eyes inside the flame scarf.

So this was Freya. The beautiful god. The one that had found him wandering without an aim or purpose; the one who presumingly knew as much as Odin did. Yet, she never once questioned him, but took the boy in her arms and treated him as her own.

Sneering to the side, Loki spat. He hated being coddled. He wasn't a damn kid anymore. Even if the feeling was nice.

Among the company around the fire, Freya was too drunk to notice anything; he presumed that she hadn't been out for a long while, and that liquor had the same effect on her as it did normal humans.

So the gods were mortal after all.

Standing up unnoticed, Loki grabbed his things and crept into the shadows, feeling as if he were no longer wanted there. Not only that, but he had other things to do, other things to accomplish...

It seemed like just moments later when he found himself in front of an old building, with letters falling off in haphazard places, making the word unreadable. And, although it could not be read, the boy squinted, trying his best to make out the letters.

Gho t B st s

Not too far away was a clock tower, suddenly chiming with beautiful rings the current time of the evening. Or rather, it was daytime now, as Loki counted six long dongs of the clock tower, announcing that it was indeed morning.

He felt weak. He hadn't gotten an ounce of sleep between the last two battles he had had, and his legs couldn't support his weight anymore.

The last thing he remembered was the door opening in front of him, and an array of adults exclaiming very odd things, and arms catching him as he fell... but the funny thing was...

He didn't feel a thing.

___06/13/06 In Which Loki Gets Rescued

"What is she, some kind of spirit?" A voice murmured, and fingers brushed over the trickster's side, arm, ears... before they found the wings and trespassed between the feathers quite rudely, as if trying to believe that they were real.

"Seems too real to be a spirit... perhaps she's posessed?" New fingers now tousled with the blonde hair, and halted when they encountered a rat's nest.

"No spirit would want a body that's this dinged up... I think she'll be fine, just needs a little TLC." The third voice chimed in, and the trickster was propped up, head tilted back to allow light to shine on him. "Go get some supplies, Tank."

Crimson eyes opened halfway to reveal four busybodies moving around; one pacing, one going to get supplies, one on a chair next to Loki, and running fingers through his blonde hair... and the fourth? The fourth was staring out a window, her black hair splayed over her face, the look she had resembling nonchalance. She was the one who stuck out the most.

Opening his mouth to speak, Loki grimaced when a small sound came out, mostly nonsense gurble.

"Water." The man on the chair murmured, holding a glass towards the boy, who reached out and took it, rather hesitantly. As his left arm was drawn out, the man on the chair grabbed it, glancing over the hue. "What'd you do, swallow a lava lamp?"

Giving the man a dark look, Loki jerked his hand out of the man's grasp, swinging his arm and knocking the water all over. This drew the attention of the other three, whom looked at him with mild curiosity while the leader-of-sorts dried himself off, standing.

"Well. That solves that. I suppose-ow!" Yanking his hand up, the man glared furiously at the lizard that hung from his pinky finger, dangling precariously though had a tight hold. "This yours, girl?"

"I'm not a ********' girl." Loki spat. An eyebrow raised from the man.

"Fine. Tomboy then." Drawing close, he shook the lizard off and watched it scurry into Loki's scarf, disappearing from view. "What's your name?"

"... Loki." He found himself saying, too tired to resist and put up a fight. The last two scenes were far too much to bear at the moment.

"Fitting. Well, Loki, make yourself at home. Looks like you're gonna be here a while." Taking the first aid kit from the one called Tank, the man set it on the chair and knelt beside the kid, picking up his arm and starting to wrap a bandage around it. "Looks like you were in a war, kid."

"...should see the other guy." Loki muttered, feeling his eyelids drop. He saw the other's mouth move, but couldn't quite make it out, and soon found himself in another place entirely.

___06/14/06 In Which Loki Joins Ghost Hunters

Crimson eyes were long open before anyone else realized, sleep having worn off ages ago. There was hustling and bustling and file sorting as well as so many other jobs that they were doing, just the four of them, but currently, the woman was staring out the window. Contented with having enough sleep, he laid there, observing silently, the others acting completely oblivious.

Tank, the first name spoken, was a tall and well-muscled black male with shaggy brown hair, and was well stocked with knives and other such things. Loki could easily see where he had gotten his name.

Farin, the black haired woman, obviously the secretary, though kept a gun at her side at all times. Why, he didn't know... yet.

Shike, a small mousy male, currently smoking a cigarette and relaxing behind a desk. The boy didn't see what this man's purpose was.

And last, but not least... the leader, known as Blake. He was cool, calculated, and knew what the hell he was doing. Certainly the one that should be in charge - no one questioned him. Not even Tank. Though the hyena boy did figure that Tank could take the leader... if he had even wanted to.

At the moment, Loki really didn't care that they questioned his gender; he was more curious at what they were doing, and instantly sat up once they brought in a tool that he knew they were holding a ghost in. Staggering across the floor and stopping in front of Tank, Loki pointed, mouth open. "You have a ghost in there."

Stopping, Tank opened his mouth in what looked like surprise, just staring at Loki.

"Yeah, it is." Shike muttered, ambling over to both of them as the cigarette dangled from his lips, hands shoved in pockets. "But how'd you know, tomboy?"

"He obviously has a flair for it, unlike someone who just attracts the lusting ghosts," Farin murmured, laughing as she prodded Shike in the side.

"Hey hey, that's not fair," Shike muttered as he glanced away, now in a grumpy mood. A smile was given from Farin, before she wrapped both arms around him and hung there, peering at Loki. Snorting, Tank shoved past all three of them, shaking his head and not saying a word as he carried the possessed item into the back room.

"You'd make a good addition to the team." Turning, Loki's eyes glanced to Blake, who stood with his arms crossed, an expectant look in his eyes.

"... team?" Loki's eyes narrowed. He wasn't used to working in a... 'team'. The last time he had tried to do so (granted, it was his fault for starting an argument, but who was pointing fingers here?), he got beaten up. Twice. In a row. Not to mention ganged up on by two people, before that. One could say that two was not his lucky number.

"Yeah. Whaddaya say, Loki? Join the Ghostbusters?" All eyes around them widened, and Farin's arms tightened around Shike's waist.

Opening his mouth to protest, Loki found himself dumbfounded as he heard the words out of his mouth, almost not believing that it was his voice that spoke. "Yes."

___06/14/06 In Which Loki Finds Out the Intensity of a Job

"All in position?" Blake murmured, curved around the corner as his eyes darted to see the target.

"In place," Shike muttered, a fresh cigarette dangling from his lips.

"Put it out, Shike. You know ghosts can smell that stuff." Blake murmured disapprovingly, frowning as his eyes darted to the mousy man, then back to the target.

"Blake... we have a problem." Farin muttered, sliding up beside the leader. "The girl's already gone inside. She got pissed that we hadn't fixed her lantern yet." A sigh came from Blake's lips.

"A'ight, plans changed, let's get some backup. Call Tank in."

"That's not necessary..." Shike muttered, the cigarette dropping from his lips and onto the cold, hard ground. "Loki's already taken care of it."

Indeed, as all of them stood in the entrance, there sat Loki on top of the possessed and snarling spirit, acting as if it was no big feat at all. Blake sighed, pressing his fingers to his temple as if asking some unknown diety for patience. "Call Tank in, and head on home. I need... to have a talk with her." Then, without waiting for an answer, he walked forward, into the old abandoned building. Both Farin and Shike left, glancing to Blake a last time before calling in Tank on the radio.

"Loki." Blake muttered, drawing close to the kid and kneeling beside him, pressing a finger to the spirit. The spirit seemed to pout, then drew back and snarled, though kept still... for the moment.

"I caught the spirit, but without my lantern, I can't exorcise it."

"Loki."

"When are you going to fix it? I've asked for days now, and you don't have any tools-"

"LOKI." The boy stopped, eyes narrowed. "We work as a TEAM." Blake continued, rubbing the side of his temple. "Meaning," He spoke, holding up a finger to stop Loki from continuing. The boy shut his mouth. "Meaning... all of us have a specific task. All of us do what we're best at. And this... this got you hurt." Reaching up, Blake ran his fingers down Loki's right arm, feeling the deep gashes there. Slinging his packsack over his shoulder, the leader looked through it for a moment, before taking out some bandages and peroxide, then yanking the kid's arm up.

"This is gonna sting." Setting his face into a pout, Loki sat there, digging his heel into the spirit once it had started acting up. He grimaced, however, when the peroxide was poured over his skin, almost flinching away.

"Told you."

"Che. Right." Loki muttered, then turned away once Blake stuck a bandage on his arm, smoothing it out with his fingers.

"There. That should help a bit." Still frowning, Blake stood up and dug through his packsack again, now taking out a very foreign tool to Loki. In an instant, he pointed it at the spirit and seemed to... suck it inside. Loki fell backwards, now sprawled on the ground with a sneer. "I appreciate the work you've done... but you've got to learn to do it our way. That is the only reason why I haven't fixed your lantern, tomboy."

"I ain't no damn girl." Loki started, huffing as he started to get up.

"You certainly act like it." Blake replied smoothly, walking away. "You know where headquarters is. I expect to see you there soon. I imagine the others will put in their own two cents." Without waiting for an answer, per usual, Blake walked off, disappearing around the corner.

A red tint appeared on Loki's cheeks in slight anger, but there was nothing Loki could say anymore. Blake was prime, and he... was just a mere kid. A wannabe, as they called it.

Perhaps ... it was time to learn. He needed experience, and he needed it as soon as he could possibly get it - and that meant sucking up his pride, and biting his tongue.

Raising his hand and tossing his blonde bangs out of the way, Loki took a moment to think it over.

It wasn't long before he was following in Blake's footsteps.

___06/14/06 In Which Loki Chats with Demare and Mayu

Taking a moment before heading back once and for all, Loki grimaced as he accessed the library's computer. Surely he could leave a note for Kanth and tell her where he'd been, or rather... Ka, at the moment.

A growl escaped from Loki's throat. He didn't like Ka much, but beggars couldn't be choosers.

Moving the mouse and growling at it, Loki brought up a page and attempted to write something, but immediately got a popup and had clicked on it accidentally while he was typing. Damn thing!

Imagine his surprise when he entered a chat room, his name already chosen for him. So, the computer had a mind of its own!

You have just entered room "foodisgewd."
Burninator Loki: ... if it isn't the terrible trio. counting, of course, demare's other voice.
Mayu Potpie: Now why did I invite you again?
Burninator Loki: gee, it must be that unrequited love you must have felt earlier.

It didn't take long to figure out who they were. Snickering at the screen, Loki sat back in his chair and rested the back of his palms on the keyboard, staring at the screen. Oh, this would be entertaining.

Mayu Potpie: -_-
deCLmiaARnE: ...
deCLmiaARnE: I will refrain from commenting on that.
Burninator Loki: oh, do YOU want to send me a doll too? ;D
deCLmiaARnE: Doll?
Burninator Loki: ....
deCLmiaARnE: I'm afraid I don't know what you're talking about.
Mayu Potpie: Will you shut up about the doll already?
Burninator Loki: why? you put in. every. damn. detail.
Mayu Potpie: Its head was cut off.
Mayu Potpie: I think that made the point nicely.
deCLmiaARnE: Head... cut... What? @@ What happened?
Mayu Potpie: Never mind.
deCLmiaARnE: O...okay.
Burninator Loki: ... does that make you a praying mantis, or a black widow?
deCLmiaARnE: ...She's not an insect, though.
Mayu Potpie: ...Hm?
Burninator Loki: ... she's close enough. she has twigs. i vote for praying mantis.
deCLmiaARnE: But... she's a person. o_o
Mayu Potpie: Thanks..
Burninator Loki: she OBVIOUSLY wants to have my babies, as she decapitated that doll's head. ever think she was practicing for the real thing?
Mayu Potpie: ...No comment.
Mayu Potpie: -_-
deCLmiaARnE: You don't make any sense.
Burninator Loki: says the one who has multiple personalities.
Burninator Loki: my arm still ******** hurts!
deCLmiaARnE: Oh, but at least I make SENSE of what I'm saying. =_=
Burninator Loki: only to yourself~
deCLmiaARnE: serves you right, ********: you shouldnt have scratched my arm!!
Burninator Loki: you started it!

Leaning back further, Loki paused, scowling. This was starting to piss him off.

deCLmiaARnE: Demian, please don't do this... @@;
Mayu Potpie: Now I'm lost..
deCLmiaARnE: what the ******** ever! you burned me, therefore you started it.
deCLmiaARnE: Oh dear oh dear. TT
Burninator Loki: you interfered, dickwad.
deCLmiaARnE: i didnt that was the idiots fault
deCLmiaARnE: ._.
Burninator Loki: ... sigh. i'm sick of talking to you assholes.
Mayu Potpie: This is getting boring.
deCLmiaARnE: You chose to come here. >> Technically.
Burninator Loki: it joined without my consent!
Mayu Potpie: I bet you're lying. mad
deCLmiaARnE: You had to accept it in order to come here. o_o
deCLmiaARnE: It doesn't just accept on its own.
Mayu Potpie: Unless you have a computer that can think for itself, I guess..

"That's for sure..." Loki muttered to himself before replying, nearly ramming his head into the keyboard.

Burninator Loki: ... i think this one does. =_=
deCLmiaARnE: i bet it hates you
deCLmiaARnE: DEMIAN!
deCLmiaARnE: okay okay im going!
Mayu Potpie: Haha
Burninator Loki: right, well, have fun without me. enjoy it. i'm not coming back for a while.
Mayu Potpie: Bye, then.
deCLmiaARnE: Um, okay.
Burninator Loki: i hope spirits haunt your damn houses. z_z
Burninator Loki: no, scratch that, i'll SEND them there.
Mayu Potpie: Should I stay up and wait for them? :
deCLmiaARnE: You do that. We don't exactly mind, since ghosts live here anyway. o_o

Now beyond frustrated, the boy clicked out of the room and shut the computer off the manual way, staring at the computer for the longest time.

... no message had been sent. The hyena boy had been far too frustrated to put up with anything else after that, and stood from his spot, kicking the computer for good measure. Damn thing.

He then walked out the door towards 'home', his 'deed' done for the day.

___06/15/06 In Which Loki Gets Chided, and Learns Something New

"That was cold, kid. Really cold." Muttered Shike, a cigarette dangling from his lips as he looked crossly at Loki.

"The spirit's gone, isn't it?" Loki muttered, his red eyes glaring up at the man as he sat crumpled in the couch.

"That's not the point. Che, why am I even bothering." Turning, Shike slammed the door open with his palm and walked out, shoving his hands in his pockets. Loki saw him slouch before he disappeared entirely, and his glance turned to the others. They went about their own business, all except the only female, who approached him. A black cat with tortoiseshell markings swerved around her feet before disappearing, and Loki could have sworn he saw that cat somewhere before...

"So... what are your goggles for?" Murmured Farin, interrupting his thoughts. His crimson eyes glazed over for a moment before focusing on her, and her dual colored eyes seemed far too bright, and her smile was all too keen... like she knew something he didn't. Almost like... she had always known? He couldn't really explain it.

It was obvious he didn't answer, and her hand reached out and prodded his forehead gently. "Yo, kid, I asked you a question." Her smile grew wider, white teeth clashing against the dark skin she bore.

"Oh, uh...." Loki sighed, pulling them off and examining them, before begrudgingly giving them to her. "Look for yourself."

"Eeehhh?" Curious now, Farin tilted her head and did indeed gawk through them, glancing around the room. "I don't see anything unusual - whoah!" She had spotted Lue, and took a step back, almost falling over. "You... you have an actual FIRE spirit?! I haven't seen a fire spirit ever... they're supposed to be rare!"

A snort came from Loki. "Of course. He obeys me, and only me. Do you understand what the goggles are for, now?" Loki smiled slightly, as he remembered the brownies Paestri had made for him; it had indeed made him more aware of perspective, but in the aspect of his items; a good exorcist needed to know the tools that he worked with, and... in a way, he appreciated it. Not like he'd ever say that out loud, of course.

"It views things... as they really are." She murmured, in awe.

"No. Spirits, not things." The hyena boy muttered crossly, narrowing his eyes.

"Aaaah, forgive me." Farin muttered, rolling her eyes. One could tell she was young, and a bit uncaring, but she still made a good addition to the team.

"What exactly do you do for... the ... ghostbusters...?" He cringed as he used the name, feeling it was a bit bland, as well as a name easily made fun of.

"Well, you could say that I like to stir things up... put things right, as they were. Or as they're meant to be. But there are some things that cannot be changed." The black haired female glanced at her hands, sitting down beside the boy and hanging her head.

"Like... the death of a loved one." His fists clenched.

"Yeah..." Farin's face fell. "All of my siblings died. Betrayed, really..." A frown, but she soon straightened and slung an arm around Loki, smiling. "But, that's all in the past. As is as done, as I always say." Ruffling the boy's hair, she laughed as he pulled away, growling a bit at her.

"Quit touching me and invading my space," He muttered, crossing his arms and letting out a huff.

"You really have to get used to this teamwork stuff. We do things like this all the time." Frowning as Loki shrugged and stood up, her keen eyes watched him as he walked into another room for privacy, shutting his door with a rather loud click.

The cat circled around her feet, and glanced up at her. "Do you think he knows? He seemed to recognize me."

"No... though, we'll have to do something about her soon." She peered down at the cat, bending her head just enough so that her black hair swished down over her shoulders. "He met her before, though she wasn't the real thing. Amadeus, I mean. She wasn't Amadeus."

"I know. Amadeus... it's like the wishgiver is keeping her spirit alive inside that body, or something. She's sleeping, but... we need Loki." The cat admitted, glancing down at its paws.

"What I don't understand is why the wishgiver is posing as Amadeus. It's like she's working with the norse gods, or something... tried to lead Loki astray, but thanks to us - er... me..." Farin glanced at the floor, her shoulders dropping in depression. "There are no more Meddlers... and... Loki's about the closest thing to one."

Karma glanced at her, its eyes seeming worried. "How long are you planning to stay here...?"

"It's the only family I've got, Karma."

Behind the drawn back curtain, a certain red lizard drew back and closed his eyes, stepping back and scurrying away.

-----

Dropping to his knees, Muninn took his brother in his arms, his fingers brushing through the other raven's silky hair, seeing blood caked on the back of his brother's skull.

"Huginn..." Muninn whispered, choking, unable to find the words he wished to express.

"This is Loki's doing, you realize," Murmured a voice behind the raven, making him snap his head back to view the woman standing there, her attire no less beautiful then before. "Perhaps you wish to... rage war, with the trickster?"

The raven Muninn was nothing like his brother, Huginn. As he was the keeper of memories, he had kept his own feelings inside, and now he just felt... broken. He had to avenge Huginn. Had to avenge Odin...

"Perhaps it would be best if Loki remembered, hmm...?" Freya murmured softly, revealing the orb that Odin had carried before, holding it out to Muginn with flourish.

Staring blankly at her for a moment, it took Muginn a long while before his shaky hand reached out and clasped the orb, holding it between his two palms.

As he stared at it, he rose, not saying a word. It was time... he was on his own, his master was dead, his own brother was dead...

Revenge was... the best option, yes.
