Demare Mateni

Demare was quiet as he made his way toward headquarters, still having quite a ways to go until he made it to the building. His mind had been racing with thoughts and troubles he was having, constantly being reminded of the way he had acted about a week ago. The more and more Clare thought about his actions, the worse he'd begun to feel about it happening, still unable to explain why he did what he did. Not even Demian really understood it after being told what went down, though the demon was fairly impressed that the angel had done it completely on his own.

To Demian, this was a good thing. To Clare, however, Loki didn't really deserve everything that had been done. He should have stopped after cutting the child's hair. What made him kick him in the face... That's what was bothering him so much.

He hoped to be able to find Loki at headquarters so that he could apologize. If the other didn't accept that, then that was the hyena's decision. It would no longer be an issue. ...However, there was something else the halfling wanted to investigate. If Loki did indeed burn Paestri's hair just like he did Mayu's... Mercy is probably the least the blonde boy could hope for.

"Come to avenge war on someone else?" Purred a cool voice, and leaning against a tree was Loki, flipping through a deck of cards. Of course, how fitting that on the back of them was a red, firelike design.

Peering from the scarf were two beady eyes, and when Loki shifted, they disappeared. It seemed that Loki was still mad at Lue, in a sense.

Loki was not in the least happy about seeing Demare again, but... at least, here was his chance. Last time, Demare had gotten the upper hand, but now...? Glancing up, Loki grinned; it was growing dark. And the flames burned brighter when it was nighttime...

Demare stopped, his black tattered scarf hiding his pursed lips as he listened to the voice. Loki... Slowly, he turned only his bi-colored eyes to the boy, not removing his hands from his pockets as he wondered what he was talking about.

"Avenge war...?" he questioned, his wings fidgetting behind his back. It had only now occured to him what time of day it was, and he feared what could potentially happen. Perhaps he'd have to make this quick. "I only came to apologize. I wasn't exactly myself somehow..."

At least, the halfling thought he wasn't.

"Not exactly yourself..." Murmured Loki, who flicked a card at Demare. A toying gesture. "Pray tell, what IS yourself? Someone who you think you are, or something someone tells you to be...?" Another card was flicked out, this time at Demare's feet.

"She deserved what she got. A petty thing, really... hair can be grown back. I did not touch her skin." A faint smile, as his eyes held their own mischief.

Demare didn't respond to the cards, only listening to the boy's voice. How dare he... How DARE he say such a thing. His scarf hid his scowl, his eyes showing no emotion.

"I am who I want to be," he said through his teeth, that particular statement hitting a nerve. No one knew what it was like to live the way he did... NO ONE. "There isn't a person out there who can tell me how to act."

The halfling took in a deep breath and exhaled slowly, rolling his head back to face the blackening sky. "She didn't deserve what you did... You're lucky it was only hair. You paid the price for that... it was an equal trade."

He turned to face him now, his eyes narrowing down into little slits. "But if I find out that you EVER put a mark on her flesh... Or if you hurt her ever again... I will do to you ten fold whatever it is you do to her."

"Oh?" Loki's eyes lit up, and he gave a grin, pulling his scarf down. "And here I thought she wasn't your significant other... quite a change, isn't it?" Stroking his scarf, he let the flames rise and grinned at the sky.

"The nighttime is so lovely... don't you think? Won't you help me build a bonfire?" His grin widened as the flames rose higher, the cards now burning and disintegrating into ash.

Demare's cheeks reddened with blush, wondering why he was the only one that ever commented on the fact that he was protecting a girl. She was his FRIEND! That was it! That was... That's all there was to it...

Things would be too complicated if he ever liked someone more than that. With Demian around, it would make a relationship with anyone practically impossible. Besides, Mayu probably didn't like him like that. At least, he wasn't sure.

"She's not my significant other," he sighed, closing his eyes as he felt ash brush against his face. "She's a friend. If you do anything to ANY of my friends, I'll react the same way."

His ears began to ring, finally taking his hands out from his pockets. "Which reminds me... Before I go, I have a question for you. Did you, or did you not, burn Paestri's hair?"

The flames died down. "No." A glare went to his scarf, and a slight sound was heard, from the lizard that no one could see. "I took the flames from her hair, as the flames were caused by someone else..." Glancing back to Demare, Loki tilted his head, opening his mouth to say something... but then yawning instead. Perhaps Demare wasn't looking for another fight...?

Loki smirked.

Demare was quiet for a moment, finding that to be a curious fact. So Loki did indeed have a heart in there somewhere. Unfortunately, it was too late for him to turn away now, his head beginning to throb as he felt his heartbeat slow down.

"I see..." was all he said at first, but then decided to warn the boy anyway. "You'll have to forgive me. I'm about to not be myself again, but this time... in a different way."

The body then grew limp and collapsed to the ground.

"....oh?" Curious, Loki stepped closer, his face setting into a stoic mood while he remained close, yet still kept his distance.

Idle fingers curled around the ends of his scarf, and Loki found himself on the edge, as if preparing for something extravagant.

"Lue... be prepared."

The body was lifeless for a moment, unmoving until the child's fingers began to twitch and curl, his wings flitting and stretching up toward the sky. Demare's eyes snapped open as he took in a deep breath, trying to refill his lungs with air a bit too quickly. He coughed, curling up a little bit along the ground as he grasped at his chest, trying to force his body to calm itself. There had to be a better way to go about this... Demian had always wondered if one day during the switch, the body would simply never wake up again.

Able to get his breathing back to normal after a few moments, the child wiped the dirt off of his face as he stood. Looking to Loki, he cracked his neck, the sickening sound destorying the silent that seemed to linger in the air.

"Ah, so it WAS you," the boy sneered, his smirk hidden by his scarf. "Ya know, I thought there'd never be a soul out there that could get him mad aside from me. You proved me wrong, Loki."

His eyes narrowed, but he didn't give the hyena his usual glare. No... this one was actually worthy of SOME respect. "However, you made a BIG mistake."

"Oh?" Loki smirked just enough to achieve that mischievious glint in his eyes, but crossed his arms and waited for an answer.

The book hanging from his side seemed to hum for a moment, and the lizard skittered down the fire scarf, jolting into the lantern that was hanging next to the book in an instant. The flame started up once again, and Loki's grin grew wider. "I suppose you want to make something of it..."

"You see, I don't give a rat's a** about what happened to that b***h, unlike my other half," Demare explained while lifting up his left hand. "However, you burned my hand. I believe it's past due time to pay you back."

A crazed look appeared in his bi-colored eyes. "I'm afraid you already started to make something of it before it even began. We're a bit alike... We don't let things go very easily."

The shadows around him started to dance, rippling and moving as if they were gaining life.

"Whine whine whine, is all I hear..." Muttered Loki, whom held up his own left arm, pulling down the bandages and revealing the skin, showing that it resembled a bit like a lava lamp. Glowing red hue. White scars.

"If you haven't noticed... I can't be burned." His grin met his ears. "But you look like you need to let off a little steam, nonetheless... but yes, we are a bit alike..."

The halfling tugged at his scarf until it slipped off, allowing it to fall to the ground. It revealed his evil smirk, his head hanging down a little bit for a moment.

"Who ever said anything about burning you?" he cooed, taking Mordanath into his right hand. "I've always wondered... what blood from a dog like you might taste like."
