Mechelen

Okay! She was…doing her best. Always doing her best, and nobody had to know that she wasn’t doing well! This…honestly…she didn’t like this obstacle, and she hesitated before starting out, and the idea of falling wasn’t one that she looked forward to.

Thankfully, she didn’t fall, and even if it took her more time than she would have liked, but she hadn’t fallen. That was all that mattered, and when she was finally across the tightrope, she sunk to the ground for a few moments, trying to catch her breath once again.

Okay. She was almost done. Almost done. Maybe she would be about to brag about this someday.

Mechelen

A zipline…okay. The whole heights thing was starting to upset her, just a bit…it…

If she fell, that would be like…it. It would be the end of everything, awful and terrible. Okay, but the very worst thing was…she was alone, and for once, that didn’t seem like such a great thing…if she fell while alone…that really would be it, nobody would know, and she would just vanish into the void on this unfamiliar planet and nobody would care and…

Mechelen drew in a very deep breath and then let it out slowly, trying to calm herself down. Just go. Just hold on tight and go.

It seemed that the fates were against her and she struggled with untying the zipline, but finally, thankfully...she made it.

As she reached the ground on the other side, the Squire’s knees shook slightly and she swallowed hard, closing her eyes for a moment and blowing out a breath that felt utterly trapped.

She was safe. She was alive…and it was over…of course, with a new fear of heights unlocked.

Super Meissa

Having been eliminated from the Arm Wrestling tournament Meissa had meandered down a new path before examining what looked like a plain old obstacle course. From the babbling creek, to a large wall, to a rope bridge and a zip line, Meissa grew a little confused. What skills were exactly needed to be trained up on a course like this? Passing by the blue-haired knight Meissa's gaze took in the stones that created a path across the swift moving waters of the creek or stream before giving her name to Siegfried. Why couldn't she at least give this a go? Surely it was all in good fun.

Once the knight clicked the stopwatch that began her timed run Meissa came to the pathway of rocks across the water feature before jumping cleanly onto the first rock.

'Piece of cake. If I just do that a few more times this obstacle will be a breeze,' was the thought that went through her mind as she prepared herself for the next jump to the following stone in the line of stones. The bobcat senshi landed gracefully onto that one too. Repeating the process over and over soon saw Meissa landing on the opposite bank with a triumphant fist pump before she bounded away to find the second obstacle.

Super Meissa

After clearing the small stream/river ... whatever it had been fairly easily Meissa had the conviction that everything else would be a piece of cake. Her grin even widened more when she saw the next obstacle in her path: a wall. Cats were notoriously great climbers so scrambling over the wall should have been as simple as saying easy-peasy lemon squeezy. Except for some odd reason, it wasn't. Even as she came up short on her first attempt at finding purchase at the top did the super senshi of bobcats find her fingers scrambling to find purchase on the slick surface of the wall. Had she simply just not jumped high enough for the necessary height?

Backing up for a bit of a longer running start did Meissa once more wait until the last second to plant both feet on the ground in order to get more "oomph" into her sudden departure from the ground. Her fingers scrambled to once more find purchase on the top of the wall before she found herself falling back down to land awkwardly on her feet. Was she seriously being beaten by a simply constructed wall obstacle? Pausing in disbelief did the senshi give an exasperated sigh before putting even more distance between her starting point to gather even more speed before once more launching herself towards the obstacle. With a flash of success did Meissa finally latch her fingers around the top of the wall, enough purchase found to heave herself over ... only to realize what would be the next obstacle to stare down. Just flipping great.

Super Meissa

There was a mild sense of fascination as Meissa took in the next obstacle that she had to conquer. Ropes were strings and cats loved strings but yet something about how the tight rope walk was designed left a question in her mind about just how easily it was meant to be crossed. Her gaze took in the far side of the bridge before her gaze caught sight of the zipline that marked what seemed to be the final obstacle of the course. That should be a breeze to descend down, but first things first.

Taking a hold of the rope that she was meant to cross over started out pretty simple with ropes hanging down that one was apparently meant to utilize as crossing aids as they navigated the main rope by inching slowly across. Meissa's concentration never wavered from the place that she needed to be but it was beginning to become apparent that her ability to balance precariously on a rope was severely lacking. Even as she wobbled and weaved back and forth did at one point come close to falling off the rope did Meissa constantly reach out for the guiding ropes that were there for that purpose. Even as she came to the last segment of the tightrope she was travelling across did her gaze narrow in consternation: there weren't many ropes in this section that would give her the aid in crossing that she was sorely needing. Would making a sudden dash be the best option? Indecision ate at her and she hesitated, wasting more precious time before she caught herself mid-thought. Time was still ticking and she just needed to get across as soon as she could. Racing forward, at one point nearly falling off, did Meissa reach for the first rope she could access before steadying herself. That move was repeated again and again until she reached the end.

Super Meissa

Meissa knew, somehow, that by the time that she had reached the final platform that there was no chance that she was among the fastest to complete this strange course. Whatever time she had saved herself at the stream had been eaten up at the wall and rope bridge obstacles. Even now as she took in the sight of the zip line that waited for her to descend down did the senshi of bobcats taken a look at the complicated series of knots that held the trolley immobile before sighing.

While she would never admit it to a single soul here, her fingers had taken some sort of beating while trying to get up that wall. The rope bridge only exacerbated the feeling that something wasn't right. Her fingers felt raw through her gloves like she'd lost a few layers of skin here and there and now her digits were in a silent form of protest. Studying the knots that had to be undone did Meissa bite back the cry of pain lancing through her fingers as they curled around the first section of rope that needed untangling before she sat down in disgust. There was just no way that she would be able to rush through this obstacle. With whatever little hope there had been brewing in her heart of a fast time quickly evaporating did Meissa bow her head over the knots. Beaten by skinned fingers, of all the luck. But she would at least attempt to finish, no matter how much discomfort she ended up being in at the end of everything.

Connie, Squire of Chronos

Oh, how embarrassing! Connie tried laughing about it as she was pulled out of the water, but she didn’t want her friends to think she couldn’t handle jumping across a stream! Okay it was a little bigger than a stream, but still.

“Thank you, thank you,” she breathed with relief when she was pulled out of the water, holding onto their hands, and maybe held onto Belmont’s a bit longer since Perdita had already ran up to the next obstacle and leapt over.

Oh, but she didn’t want to be weird about holding his hand. It was just nice to hold onto something solid when she still felt really waterlogged and unsteady.

“Thank you,” she said again to Belmont with an embarrassed sigh. “Wow, Perdita, you’re so athletic.” She had a bad feeling that she was going to embarrass herself again.

She finally let go of Belmont’s hand so she could try to wring out her hair, and some of her dress layers, and then took a deep breath and made to follow Perdita. Oh, but she definitely wasn’t able to make it over. She wasn’t having any luck with this obstacle course.

Reims, Page of Ganymede
“I’m okay. Thanks,” he grunted, trying not to sound irritated. It wasn’t that he was upset with the kid who was clearly too enthusiastic, but because he hadn’t wanted to look foolish in front of Dering.

Graciously, he reached up to take hold of Dering’s hand, and the hand of the woman who offered hers as well, which gave him a moment for his shoulders to wilt because Dering was now soaked and covered in mud too. Which the woman had also apologized for.

“Oh no, uh…” he patted at his vest as though looking for something, and grimaced that he didn’t have anything on him to help Dering dry off.

His search halted for a moment when she spoke again, and he could feel the hair on the back of his neck bristle for reasons he didn’t quite understand. Maybe because she spoke as though she knew them. Well, not know know them, but she clearly knew what they were knights of.

Reims’s eyes followed her finger to her forehead and he felt his ears burn. Which he knew was a stupid reaction. He was tempted to tell her he wasn’t going to listen to anything she had to say, just because she was Ganymede. But she seemed ready to move on.

“Are you okay?” he asked the child, but she seemed fine and nodded and at least looked guilty for knocking into him.

“Here, I can go first and then pull you up if you need help,” he offered Dering after giving Ganymede another skeptical look.

It took him a little bit of a struggle, but managed to jump up the wall and waited on the top just in case he needed to help.

Sailor Chibi Eupheme

“Sorry!” she said again with a pout, and while she only whined a little at being told she couldn’t use her magic any more while they were there, she figured that was probably for the best too. Oh, but it would have helped her get over the wall easier.

She glanced up at her mom when she spoke to the two knights.

“Do you know him?” she chirped curiously. She knew she’d been told Knights don’t really work like that. They drew power from their Wonders that happened to be on planets that usually had Royal Senshi, but places like Jupiter and Earth hadn’t had Royal Senshi for a long time, or maybe they hadn’t been reborn yet. That didn’t make her daddy any less strong.

But she didn’t want to hold up their course, so she hurried up to the wall and just had to struggle a little since she didn’t have any of her magic to use. It would have been so useful!

Super Sailor Surtur

A small laugh escaped when Ymir squeezed his hand too tightly, although it was followed by a small wince once Ymir was no longer looking, and once he released his hand, Surtur rubbed it with his other.

“Ah, understandable. Beira, have you met Ymir before? He is not quite one to socialize, but I am very proud of him for coming here today and trying this out,” Surtur beamed, even after shaking out his hand once more.

“I am proud of you as well. You must have had to take time out of your busy schedule for this! I do not envy those who must work to survive,” he admitted, but he’d mentioned having benefactors on Earth to Beira before, so it shouldn’t have been a surprise that he was kind of spoiled.

“Come, let us bound over this wall,” he suggested, watching as Ymir struggled just a little, and then followed behind him to jump over as well.

Deep Space Selinuir

After getting over thhe wall, he really didn't know why it had been such an issue for himself, Selinur found himself on a rope bridge of sorts and having to navigate his way across. It wasn't so stright though and the blond kept a hand on a rope, for extra support, that was hanging down from above. his balance once or twice slipped, almost causing him to fall, but he did manage to regain his balance and make it across. It was slower than he'd like, this whole thing had gone slower than he wanted, but he did make it across eventually.

Selinur couldn't help but wonder if he wasn't feeling his age...or rather this was all a result of how long he'd spent alone, on his planet, without training or keeping in shape. He might need to work on thigns more than he already had been. It wouldn't hurt really...perhaps he'd work on training himself at home - back in space.

It was an idea, though he'd need to do thigns more on Earth as well.

Belmont, Squire of Jupiter
Total: 5

Perdita, good job!” Belmont praised, well before he gave it his own effort. She cleared that like it was nothing. He didn’t have as much faith in himself, not today. He looked a the wall with an unimpressed expression, and squinted at it for a good long moment before he finally rolled his shoulders and exhaled.

If this had been last week, he thought he could have cleared it pretty easily. But, last week he hadn’t nearly popped his arm off. Well, no. That was an exaggeration, but it certainly felt like it, and now that he had a wall to remind him of how much fun he hadn’t had while dangling from a rooftop, his arm started aching all over again.

He gave it as long as he could, and even if he watched Connie struggle, at least she had an excuse! That soaked dress must have been twice her weight.

“You got this,” he reassured, and it wasn’t until she’d made it up and had a few seconds to collect herself that he extended a hand. “Hey, I helped you up before, you help me now? I’m not going to clear this on my own.” He wasn’t embarrassed about the fact that he’d hurt himself not so long ago, and though he hadn’t been eager to share it with the world, he wasn’t going to pretend like he was in tip-top shape to secure his image of masculinity–this was all in good fun, and if he actually tore something in his arm he was just going to regret this whole outing.

So instead, he looked up at Connie with his best puppy dog eyes. “Please.”

Dering, Squire of Lysithea
Total: 5

Oh. If that was Ganymede then she was a princess, right? She couldn’t be lying, she had the same symbol as Reims and he looked between the symbol on her forehead and the one on Reims’ collar.

He didn’t know why he suddenly felt embarrassed. He nodded when Ganymede said she’d take up the rear, but mostly he was sure he was going to mess up now that he knew she was someone very important. He offered a quick word of thanks when she offered her hand, though he didn’t need it. “I’m Dering,” he introduced, because it was probably polite when she introduced herself. Although, he said it quietly, like maybe he hoped she’d mishear so wouldn’t remember him.

Which was probably silly, all things considered. He’d met important people before. Not while soaking wet and covered in mud. He tried to smooth his hair down a bit, or wipe his hand off on his uniform, but really it wasn’t going to do much of anything.

The Chibi Senshi seemed like she was fine, and Reims was, too. He needed to get his head back in the game.

“Um, I might need some help. I’ll try,” he promised, but he was going to be realistic about it. His strength was not in his upper body. Or anywhere, really.

So Dering tried once, twice, three times, and could neither reach the top nor find anywhere that gave him good enough purchase to ascend the wall on his own.

Almost helplessly, he looked up at Reims. He didn’t say it out loud, but he was most certainly asking for that help he’d offered.

And hopefully Ganymede wouldn’t be disappointed with the current state of newer Knights. He didn’t look back to see what expression she was wearing; he’d already decided it must be disappointment.

Beira, Super Senshi of Loneliness
Total: 7

Beira’s eyes followed Ymir as he darted away, well before he could make a proper introduction. He watched as the Senshi propelled himself up the wall and nodded at Surtur’ suggestion. “We haven’t met before, but I’m glad to see you out with friends. I didn’t expect to see anyone I knew today but I thought it might be good to get out and get some fresh air. To see what everyone else was up to.”

Ymir had seemed far less interested in conversation than Surtur, but at least Beira had a name to put to the face. He hadn’t seemed hostile but he had seemed keen to have his own space, and for that Beira found himself a bit reluctant to catch up. He hadn’t wanted to interrupt anyone, and if he were going to make new acquaintances it might have been best when they were all in a good state.

He wouldn’t have been in the best mood to meet new people if he was covered in water or mud so whatever the reason for Ymir’s hastiness was not held with disdain or animosity. Of course, maybe he was just very passionate and driven to complete the obstacle course.

Beira could always find a way to slip behind without drawing too much attention to himself.

He didn’t clear the wall with the speed or grace of Surtur, or even the efficiency of Ymir, but if they were hoping to hurry through the course they could go on without him as he made his way up slowly.

Transcended Eternal Sailor Ganymede

If Ganymede was disappointed about anything, it was that such young boys had to deal with the war in the first place. Granted, she’d probably been about their age when she awakened, but that didn’t make it any easier to look at them and not feel guilty that the war hadn’t ended before they, too, took their place among the stars.

She let them figure out the wall themselves. The Page of Ganymede offered help to Dering, so Ganymede watched and waited rather than risk overstepping and offending them. In her experience, kids their age didn’t often care to have an adult interfere in situations like this. If they were in real danger, that would have been different.

Ganymede waited for them to get up the wall before doing so herself. She did so with ease, landing next to Eupheme.

“I don’t know him, no,” Ganymede answered Eupheme’s question from before. “I only know a few knights of Ganymede.”

To all three of them, she said, “Be careful on those ropes. Try to go slow, okay?”
