There was that pesky Bite again, this time, at least, it wasn't as shocking. Naomi exhaled slowly, and then breathed out before smiling. It was hard not to become so tense and serious about this, even if it was just practice (maybe because there was a crowd and group of judges watching them), but he still needed to remember that contests were supposed to be fun. "Do not let him get to you, Jingu, use Rapid Spin!" Naomi commanded with a sweeping motion to the right, directing her where to go.
She reacted immediately, moving even when Riptide veered away. Within seconds Jingū was expertly spinning herself into her natural 'spotlight', still there, but fading, from her previous move, a tornado of red, white, and black. Even when she stopped her cape didn't, and it was seconds later when the material finally fell limp and draped itself back behind the Bounsweet. "Just because she is small, does not mean you should underestimate her," Naomi playfully chided both Riptide and Austin, a more easy smile finding its way on to his countenance. "We will show you who the true predator is." Figuratively, of course, Bounsweet were still herbivores, after all.

✪Walking Pokemon ⇨ Riptide, the Aklor and Susan, the Gardevoir
Things were really starting to heat up as the Performance round ended and the Battle Round begun. Riptide and Austin had regrouped to come up with a plan. What will you do, Dalpha? Susan 'whispered' Her trainer was thinking of a strategy while Riptide wriggled in anticipation and the need to fight. "Idea! Riptide, I want you to fight that Bounsweet." The shark perked up at that, and began gnashing his teeth. "But, you're not allowed to hurt her. Or eat her." Riptide skulked, and glanced at Susan. Riptide wants to know if he could just maul her. Just a little! Austin stared at both of them, not amused. Okay, no maul the Jingu.
A few moments later, the Battle Round begun. Austin and Riptide wasted no time in starting off the event. "Thunder Fang, Riptide! The time for games is over!" Riptide started to circle Jingu before pouncing and clamping his jaws around her little body. She'd feel no pain though; it was almost like being hugged. By teeth. Nevertheless, Riptide let off a little tingling electricity before spitting her out into the air. Apparently he didn't like sweet-tasting stuff.

Cher swished his tail and seemed to look at Rummy, though it was a bit hard to tell with his eyes squinted as they always were. He tilted his head, making another little sound, before lifting his head, and actually speaking. 'I'm a gekkit. It is a part of me. My name... is Cherish,' he replied slowly, almost thoughtfully. He was aware of the glance this earned from Trey, given he'd only really chittered at Shade before, and even to a pokemon, their talk would have seemed like nonsense. Now, though, he was speaking clearly-- well, in pokemon talk, at least.
Trey shrugged at the apology. He quickly processed the berries and helped with the mixture, taking it from Sebastian to add his portion, and stir it up while the man prepped the tins. "What about your houndoom?" he queried, glancing back to the pokemon, holding the bowl in one arm while he signed, before moving to pour the mix into the tins once they were ready. ".... What other pokemon do you have?" he asked putting the poffins in the oven, and waiting a moment.

Rummy’s grin grew as the Gekkit addressed him, leaning in close and observing the strange little fox with a look of pure delight. "Ooooo hello Cherish! That’s so neat, it looks so cool! Did you make it yourself? Did you find it? Did your trainer buy it for you? It looks so comfortable!" He remarked, tail still going a mile a minute. "Are you doing contests too? Do you like them? Have you won any ribbons?"
Sebastian watched intently, doing his best to memorize everything so that next time, preparation could go along at a swifter place. There really wasn’t much to it; it was just basic cooking principles like you’d do for humans. But still, he just felt like he ought to be paying as close attention as possible. And to not miss Trey speaking to him; that might’ve also been important to pay attention too as well. "I’m not sure to be honest. Maybe a cool contest? Or smart, he’s a pretty bright pokemon," he remarked thoughtfully, glancing back at the Houndoom nearby. He did blink and chuckle a bit at the question of what pokemon he hand, looking thoughtful a moment as he watched the timer tick down on the oven until the poffins were done.
"Honestly? I’ve got quite a few. I’ve a main team for battles, they probably wouldn’t want to do contests. I’ve a Mareep… he’s around here somewhere…. Blackjack there….," he glanced down just as bluff managed to peek out of the confines of his bag to observe the situation, "there’s Bluff here too, though she just hatched." The timer went ‘ding’ and Sebastian offered Trey the oven mitts to retrieve their creations."I’ve got way more than I need, to be honest. What about yourself? Are those your only two?"

When a short break was allotted, Naomi made certain to take full advantage. He sunk down onto his knees--his new attire wasn't just comfortable, it freed him up to be a little less cautious about stains; hurray for simple material--and gently brushed up Empress Jingū and smoothed out her cape. "You are doing fantastic," he complimented, unable to dial back his smile. "Thank you very much for agreeing to participate. There is only one more round, and then we shall see who the winner is." Jingū nodded her head eagerly, already raring to go again. From off to the side, Mori approached, and offered his teammates a few words of encouragement before the judges regrouped, the final results from the last round tallied.
Austin and Riptide came out victorious, meaning they'd start off the battle round, and while a tad disappointed, Naomi could understand and clapped along with the crowd as the contestants reconvened on the stage. Not Jingū, unfortunately, who could just barely keep her pout from showing as she skipped out airily. The final round was commenced without haste, and, as expected, Austin and Riptide came out strong, and rather aggressive. Even without the presence of pain, Empress Jingū still gave out a shrill cry (that managed to sound like a joyous shriek) as teeth, coated in electricity, set down on her before she was sent into the air.
She landed easily enough on her feet, despite the shock, and at her recovery, so came Naomi's, and he began their counter. "Use Solar Beam!" Realizing that this attack would have to be less showy, Empress Jingū settled for a quick summon of light before tossing it, much like a softball, in Riptide's direction. She was careful of where to aim, however, and the light touched down a few feet away from the shark, where, upon interacting with the ground, it erupted into a brilliant shine, momentarily blinding its target.

The gekkit looked at Rummy, tilting his head to the side as the little leafeon rambled on. He stood up, tail lifted with interest, before promptly.... placing a paw on Rummy's head. Even if he had to stand on his hind legs to do so. And then, the fox promptly tackled Rummy and started moving over him, either trying to pin him to the ground, or perhaps examine him, it was hard to tell. 'My collar is a part of me,' he reiterated simply, curiously examining the leafeon all over. Shade moved forward a bit, but otherwise stayed where it was, continuing to observe, even as its friend essentially manhandled the other pokemon, and responded to only one of the questions.
Trey paused a moment as he listened to Sebastian. He... wait. Did this guy even know what determined a pokemon's compatibility for contests....? He'd seen his leafeon using beauty moves, so... it seemed like it, especially since they were good enough to pull off a contest, but... He straightened up, signing back to the man, "Well what moves does he have?" He folded his arms over his chest as he waited, letting the poffins cook while they talked. He listened, glancing down when Sebastian mentioned a whole other team, then looked up and raised a dubious eyebrow at the Mareep that was 'somewhere'. "Did you lose your pokemon?" he asked. He blinked when a little igglybuff appeared, dropping his arms a moment, then raising them to sign. "She could maybe do cute," he suggested, gesturing to the pokemon.
He hesitated, taking the oven mitts and glancing down at SEbastian's question. "Yeah, for now," he replied, before putting the mitts on, and moving to retrieve their creations. He was kind of.... self conscious now. He.... he knew, on some level, he'd need more pokemon, but he was pretty happy with Cherish and Shade. In case it wasn't obvious, he liked to keep hsi focus narrow. Two pokemon was a good, narrow focus. But, he'd.... need more. He couldn't cover all, or even very many, contest types, with just these two....
Pulling out the poffins, he got lost in thought, and set them up to cool, before pulling off his mittens, and setting them aside. He... he would really need to think about the pokemon he'd need, and what contest types he still needed to cover, and.... damn it....

✪Walking Pokemon ⇨ Riptide, the Aklor and Susan, the Gardevoir
Riptide took the Solar Beam like a champ, and even hammed it up by roaming around angrily while he couldn't see. Austin was afraid that the shark wouldn't be a good performer, but he really seemed to enjoy it. And he was much more behaved in this setting, too. While Riptide attempted to brush off his temporary blindness, Austin tried to piece together their next move. We're in the lead by the looks of things, he deduced, But not by alot. I need to get as much appeal as possible, but be prepared to shut them down at any moment's notice.
Just go beat them up.
Austin was startled, and looked over at Susan. You can hear all that? She nodded, as if he ahd asked her if she could breathe on her own. Susan can. So, anyway, go beat them up and take their food for the pack. This is good plan. If it were any other situation, Dallas would've agreed. But this was an honorable contest, and Dallas was under the guise of someone that people actually liked, so he wouldn't stoop to his normal tactics. "Riptide, It's time to blast off! Aqua Jet!" Riptide, finally free of the blindness, hopped up so his head pointed to the sky. Then, he used his jet propulsion move to launch up a good ten feet off the ground, astonishing the crowd. "This is the end for you, Empress! Death from above!" Riptide roared, and began his hasty decent to the ground, aiming for the Bounsweet. What would she do?

Rummy’s grin momentarily disappeared in surprise as the Gekkit put a paw on his head blinking in confusion. He gave a little ‘Oooo’ at the response that the collar was in fact a part of the other pokemon, though was more caught off guard by the sudden tackling that the little creature delivered. He lied there, staring at the Gekkit with a bit of ‘wtfery’ but not entirely in a disapproving way. He looked more curious if anything about what was going on, grin returning. "Oh I get it! Like my leaf is a part of me! Or or Dues’ ribbons! He has ribbons not they’re really pretty! Hey what are you doing? Are you looking for something?" He inquired curiously, watching the fox curiously.
Sebastian blinked, rubbing his chin at the inquiry before fishing out his pokedex. It’d been quite some time since he’d actively used Blackjack and so he needed to refresh himself. A quick scan and he had the Houndoom’s move set pulled up, looking it over thoughtfully. "Uuhm…. A whole mess of moves." He finally remarked, offering the dex to Trey to see if he wanted. Really Blackjack’s moveset was tailored towards nothing at this point, but that was easily fixed. He’d just… look it up!
At the mention of ‘lost pokemon’, Sebastian frowned. While that was absolutely what it looked like, it was not something he wanted to admit too. Really though, he was a little less worried about Kaiser causing trouble compared to Rummy, though he should’ve… been just as worried.
"No I’m… sure he’s around here somewhere," he remarked confidently,, which seemed to earn him a curious side look from Blackjack. It was absolutely, totally fine and he would search out his renegade pokemon right after he was all done here. Maybe. Instead he shifted his attention to Bluff, pulling her out of his bag and earning an excited coo of glee from the act. "Do you think so? That seems a little… obvious doesn’t it?" Not that he’d be opposed if that was what Bluff wanted to perform in it just seemed a tad… cliché?
Tucking her into his arms, he headed over and peered at the poffins, giving a grin and glancing at Trey. "They look amazing! You really know your stuff don’t you?" He tilted his head some, "have you been doing contests for long then? Or rather, prepping for them and all?"

Naomi, absently, took the time to comb his fingers through his hair, but had to resist taking it out of its ponytail and contended himself with just allowing the ends to slip through his digits. Austin and Riptide, they really weren't letting up, were they? It was expected, of course. In the crucial seconds between the roaring Aklor-missile headed straight towards Jingū, he took the time to look at his pokemon. Though it was hard to tell, with that natural air of serenity about her, he caught a faint glimpse of annoyance, she still hadn't forgiven Riptide for biting her, even if it had been for show. But that was all she appeared to be, which was, in an odd way, calming, considering what was to come.
"Make your escape!" Naomi called out, giving her the creative liberties to decide which attack she would make use of to aid her in this; she seemed to have a knack for this. She wasted no time in sending up another collection of leaves, straight at Riptide. Knowing that her accuracy was key, Jingu aimed for his face, and with some satisfaction watched as the foliage slapped harmlessly over his eyes and surrounding area, creating a leafy blindfold. It was the best she could come up with, in such a tension-staked time, and allowed her to move out of harm's way, skipping al the while, of course.

✪Walking Pokemon ⇨ Riptide, the Aklor and Susan, the Gardevoir
Austin bit his lip a little as Riptide's shark missile attack was thwarted. He would have to think of the next move very carefully. Okay, so Naomi and Empress used Solar Beam and Razor Leaf...he could do Razor Leaf again so soon; judges wouldn't like that at all...we need to appeal more to the crowd, but we can't let them run off with the lead. Seeing as how they're most logical step is to use Solar Beam to work off of our next move-
Riptide! Bite Jingu! Bite Jingu! Austin looked down to Susan in disbelief. "What in blue blazes do you think you're doing- wait, Riptide, don't!" But, it was too late. Riptide was on the move, relying not on his eyesight, but his strong sense of smell. He sniffed the air until he found the tropical, fruity sent of Empress JIngu, and then launched himself with abandon at her. He didn't hit her, but there was a large pile of gravel now missing right in front of her. The leaves had mostly shook off, and the shark spewed out the rocks and dirt from his mouth angrily. Meanwhile, Austin shot a look at Susan, who sulked at her Alpha's displeasure. "You're very lucky that Riptide knows this isn't a real fight, or you'd be in a large amount of trouble," he muttered. Susan kept her head low, and refused to make eye contact, like most submissive creatures do in situations like this. Susan sorry...Susan thought it was good idea at time... Austin sighed. "Well, I was going to do that anyways. But don't do that again, okay?"
Back to the contest: Riptide was mere inches away from his opponent, and looking as menacing as the little guy could. He watched her carefully, waiting to see what her next move would be so he could strike.
Item questing: Top Hat 2/10 posts Area Specific Item: Sparkle Seal 6/10 posts
Cherish continued scurrying over Rummy, sniffing and examining him, before laying down atop him, and curling up a bit, tail gently moving in a relaxed, steady motion. Despite all rhyme and reason, he seemed perfectly comfortable. "... Have you done very many contests?" Cherish asked curiously, again, passing over Rummy's questions, and carrying on the conversation at his own pace (and direction). Shade blinked curiously, before rolling over a bit closer, while still keeping some distance.
Trey furrowed and quirked a brow at Sebastian's response, moving to take the pokedex and look them over. Hmm.... He handed it back. "He's more set for beauty, at the moment. But you could probably adjust his moveset for smart or cool," he replied. He paused, waffling a bit, before uncertainly adding, "I could probably help, I guess." He kind of needed to focus on his own pokemon, but.... it was honestly nice to share the interest with someone. There hadn't been a lot of coordinators around him when he was growing up. Not that very many knew that was his interest, he didn't share a lot, but.... he didn't exactly hear other stalking about it, either.
He shrugged a bit at the guy's reassurance, and... honestly at his concern. "Cute is cute," he signed back simply. "Judges' don't usually.... judge, based on that sort of thing." He shrugged again, dropping his hands back down. He smiled at the praise, straightening up a bit and tilting his head as he looked down at the poffins. They did look pretty good. He gave a smaller shrugged, though, looking a bit embarrassed, but appreciative of the praise. "I studied," he signed, then added, "A lot." He looked down at the poffins again, proud, then turned to Cherish-- and deadpanned. His eye twitched as he stared at..... he didn't even know. "Cherish! What are you doing!?" he signed angrily, almost making a small noise in frustrated disbelief. He strode over, snatching the fox up off Rummy, who perked up and gave a small gekker in response. "Sorry," he signed to Sebastian, frowning as he returned with the pokemon, giving his 'starter' a disbelieving, questioning look. Seriously, what the heck was he even doing!??

Rummy was, admittedly, confused by the Gekkit’s actions and even more so as he went about using him like some sort of seat cushion. Was the Leafeon missing something here? He craned his head curiously as he stared at the fox, considering the question posed to him before wide grin burst across his face again. "Nope! I’ve done like… two! I only got to start doing them again recently! Pretzel braid was busy, but that’s okay! What about you? Do you do a lot? I bet your amazing!" He chirped, wiggling and staring wide eyed in awe at the thought.
"Oh, really?" Sebastian thought a moment. He supposed fire could be beautiful as it burned things… but he really didn’t want to have pokemon overlapping in contests if he could avoid it. He gave an appreciative smile as he tucked his pokedex away, though looked a little surprised at the offer. "Really? I’d appreciate it!" He chimed, looking honestly grateful. Having help in contests would be nice! Some tips, advice; even if Trey was just starting out he honestly seemed to know his stuff. Or at least, more than Sebastian knew.
"I guess that’s fair," he said, thoughtful look on his face. "But still, it’d be fun to subvert that don’t you think? Just for your own challenge." Because that was exactly the kind of silly thing you did; make your life unnecessarily challenging to prove a point. "I mean, I don’t know, I’d certainly be impressed if someone made a … I don’t know, like a Trubbish beautiful or something." Joking aside, he set Bluff down, the Igglybuff sniffing the air and wandering over to inspect the poffins that were cooling. Her trainer watched a moment to make she didn’t do anything before jumping at a sudden response from Trey. He watched the young man snatch up the Gekkit, looking just as confused as Rummy (who turned his attention to Shade out of new curiosity) before giving an uneasy chuckle.
"Ah… it’s… okay?" He wasn’t entirely certain what he was apologizing for to be honest, nothing odd seemed to be going on. But then again, this was Rummy so he very well could’ve missed something. Glancing at his pokemon again, Sebastian pointed to the little ball of fluff. "Is that one in contests too?"

Trey nodded, pressing his lips together some and looking down a little at Sebastian's appreciation. Honestly, he didn't want to spend time helping others, it wasn't really his thing, but... getting to feel experienced in his favorite area was nice. And, besides, it would... be good practice. He did eventually plan to get more pokemon, after all, and though he had a good idea of what moves were good, and even some pokemon with potential, helping someone else figure out a practical, tactical moveset would be good for when he started putting together his own pokemons' movesets.
Trey shrugged. "Well, yeah. A challenge, especially an unexpected one, is usually more interesting, but they don't take off points for going the easier route," he replied. He smirked a little at the remark on the Trubbish, holding back a short laugh, and glanced down at the Igglybuff. His gaze immediately focused in on her as she moved close to the poffins, but he was soon distracted by his own pokemon.
Cherish's ears, if possible, seemed to perk up even more at Rummy's response, and he lifted his head, apparently looking at Rummy with some curious interest. He flicked his tail, but his usual silence lingered, and before he could break it, he was swept off by his own trainer, and looked up at the hard frown he was receiving. Trey shifted, looking incredibly uncomfortable at the what-the-fudge moment his pokemon was having, but looked back to Sebastian when he spoke. He adjusted his weight and glanced down at Shade, before nodding a bit, looking sort of distracted still. He had to adjust Cherish so he could free his hands up a bit, not yet willing to trust the pokemon back on the ground. "Yeah, eventually. I haven't really been able to figure out what sort of tricks it could do. I need to practice with it more, before we can try competing in an actual contest," he explained, then added, "I think it'd be good for Smart given its moveset, though."

A thoughtful expression crossed Sebastian’s face, a finger lightly tapping under his chin as he considered Trey’s words. "I suppose you’re right," he conceded though with an unconcerned grin on his face. It was good that they didn’t take points off either way, but still seemed like it’d be more fun. He gave Bluff a glance, reaching over and gently picking her up to keep her from trying to catch a bite of the poffins. He wasn’t entirely certain if he wanted her eating it or to save it for later once he’d decided who would serve as his cute contest representative.
He focused on Trey and his interactions with Cherish, still confused on what had happened and what he’d missed to elicit such a response. He glanced at Runn, who’d taken to trying to poke at Shade with a paw, eyes wide with wonder. Hm, he supposed he could see where Trey was coming from regarding finding the pokemon’s place in contests. A smart fluffball? That was a sort of humorous idea. "What kind of pokemon is it?" He inquired, realizing he had no clue and tugging out his pokedex absently. He grinned and glanced at Trey again with an idea.
"Well, I need to figure out a pokemon from a smart contest too. So… what do you think? Should I have my Houndoom here do smart or cool?" Why not get an expert opinion on the fact? In fact, he pulled up Kaiser’s info on his pokedex, offering it to Trey to look at. "And this is Kaiser, my Mareep. I’m thinking tough but, what do you think? I get a feeling you’re more of an expert than I am!" It was kind of exciting to think he could get some of his pokemon sorted out. He even glanced at Bluff again, thinking a moment. "Do you think even Bluff should be cute? Maybe we could challenge each other if that worked!" Assuming he got everything sorted out which at the rate he was going, was unlikely. But still, it was a nice thought! And Bluff really seemed to be eyeing the poffins...

Trey relaxed some as Sebastian pulled his pokemon away from their creations. He didn't expect the pokemon to steal them, per se, but... he was grateful not to have to worry about it. Trey blinked a few times, looking uncertain as he took the pokedex, before sighing. He offered a (false) smile to try and avoid hurting the guy's feelings or anything, though. "Mind if we sit down? I've been standing for a while," he offered in explanation. Arceus.... damnit. Now he was lying in sign language, too. So much for getting away from that. Setting Cherish down and giving him a stern look, he grabbed the poffin and turned, looking over the pokedex as he moved to find a place to sit, evidently assuming that Sebastian would agree. After all, he was helping him, so why wouldn't he?
... Sometimes, Trey's arrogance could really slip through.
Looking over, it didn't take him long to think over the Houndoom's moveset. "Either would honestly work well for him. Smart might be easier to put together, but Cool has a good combo technique with Roar and Howl," he explained, "His moveset seems more inclined towards smart, but I'm not sure how many tactics you might have. Kind of depends on your style in contests, I guess." His signing was a bit distracted as he tried to look over Kaiser's moveset. "Right now Mareep could be Cool or Tough," he signed, frowning, "Honestly, his moveset is more beauty heavy, but he's got some potential for Cool, and definitely Tough, tactics, I'd say." Finding a bench, he sat down, handing the pokedex back to Sebastian.
Shade, meanwhile, had immediately inched back and away from Rummy, still staring at him, wide-eyed, but keeping its space. Cherish bounded over, tackled the fluff ball, and then turned to follow their trainers. The Danshen stared at Rummy, and even as it moved to follow its friend, continued to keep its one eye trained on the Leafeon.
