Malen lay on a hotel room bed and typed. it had been a long day and his job wasn’t finished yet. he’d nabbed the b*****d he’d been out to find but the ******** had a partner and even though there was no reward for it he felt it necessary to catch her too. Plus it meant an extra day or two away from home and all it represented now.
Journal
So I caught, Mennen today a nasty ******** of an elf, well half elf half human but that’s not the point. The b*****d’s a known rapist luring children in with his innocent looks and magic. I got him though, took a bit of a set up and some help from Talon , gods but that woman can find the strangest objects, but I got him. Damn it all but he has a female co-hort maybe a boss I’m not sure. she’s been stalking me back to the hotel though so I’m thinking that whoever she is she’d less than pleased about his death.
So here I am in a crappy hotel room waiting to be attacked by some sort of golem girl with a vendetta against me while I track an over night mailed bodybag via computer. Isn’t my life ******** grand. Of course it could be worse , I could be at home waiting for the world to go black and white again and everything to go beyond anyone’s control.
Not that home is all bad, there’s the girls, my two grey eyes warrior girls. Gods but they grow up fast. Kishi’s gaining ground each day in training and intelligence.
Del’s slower but more refined she grows overall as a person, developing her sense of self. I just hope that self learns to take care of all the creatures she’s amassed.
There’s Kay too, my little super kay a green eyed demon in an innocent’s clothing. There’s more to her than meets the eye though damned if I know what.
And Ianna as well I have, sweet innocent, niave Ianna.
I have all this waiting for me at home and still I’m quite content to drink my beer and count the seconds until that Golem breaks down the door and I find myself in an adrenaline filled situation fighting not just for my life but to feel alive.

Dear diary:
So here I am an aunt. Surprisingly not by Kay either. Nope it was Kishi who got roped into having these kids that came from a necklace. I have to admit though that the babies are really cute and they even sort of look like her. Also kishi promised I could help her teach them to swim when they are old enough.
Anyways way to much is happening right now to explain it all in one entry so I'm gonna be writing in your a lot more soon. Well not you becuase I think I need a new journal for the new me that's about to come out.

Skill session Teacher: Tessa Avery Student: Delphinidae
While waiting for her latest pupil to arrive Tessa finished the setup that she'd need for this lesson. The student Delphinidae was a bottle nose dolphin and Tessa had decided that since her echolocation was reportedly already in use that she'd work on testing the girl's sense of hearing and pitch when it came to innate sounds she should be capable of making. It wasn't going to be an easy test but at least it was one that wouldn't require leaving the classroom.
Del walked slowly into the classroom a bit nervously, she was here alone and this was her first formal class of any sort. Oh sure she'd had her battle class and her dragon info class but those had been different to her. Of course her first class where she'd learned something had been back in the pool a long time ago but that had been sort of fun even despite the fight. She had no idea what to expect from this.
Looking at the purple haired woman she smiled a bit “ Hi I'm Del, I'm supposed to be hear for a lesson”
Hello there Del I'm Miss Avery you're teacher but please call me Tessa.” Tessa eyed the Dolphin girl, rubbery grey skin, a blowhole instead of a nose, dorsal and pectoral fins and a rather intimidating looking tail. Hopefully the girl didn't decide to get aggressive, Tessa had yet to have an injury while teaching a class and she had no intention of starting to now.
Tessa held up a small tape recorder “ The tape on this had various Dolphin calls recorded on it. Your job is to listen to the sound and try and replicate it ok? This has to do with the dolphin's ability to hear and create a great deal of unique frequencies.” With an older student Tessa wasn't going to bother with playing around, she'd get straight to the point of the exercise.
Del nodded “ Got it” This didn't sound too hard, she was glad Echo hadn't come with her though, he would probably have teased her if she got something wrong. Not that he was a bad partner just a bit critical at times.
She wondered if learning this was would make her a good singer, after all if she could hit special notes then maybe she should take singing lessons and think about doing that for a while. It wasn't as if there was much else for her to do.
Tessa pressed a button and a lonesome high pitched wail erupted from the recorded. It was oddly beautifull in Tessa's opinion. " Please try to make that sound. It wont be possible to hit that exact note as all dolphins have a unique voice but you'll probably get so close I can't notice."
Del listened close let herself feel and hear the cry then suck in a deep breath and released a strangled choke resembling more of a squeaky balloon than a dolphin cry.
She frowned and massaged her throat ,clearly that hadn't worked. Maybe you had to be underwater to make the sounds come out right, like with her echolocation.
Tessa shook her head while holding back a laugh” Don't force it, your body should know how. It's similar to your echolocation ability and once you figure out how to activate it it should come fairly naturally."
Hopefully it came out naturally soon becuase too many test tries and Tessa would either die of laughter or burst ear drums she wasn't sure which just yet.
Nodding Del tried again this time letting her body have it's way with the sound. Instead of the previous disaster this time small air sacs inside her body inflated, expanded and then released air slowly to create a thin wail that was a poor facsimile of the original but better than the first attempt.
Clearly this wasn't going to work out nearly as quickly as Del had hoped, and she was really glad Echo wasn't here. Still it seemed she could do this on land it would just take a lot of work.[ yes, like all things it would require practise to master. /color]
Tessa nodded “ Much better but your pitch is still off, you're body knows what to do to make noise but now to what degree, that you figure out how to direct yourself.
Del nodded and took a deep breathe and let it out slowly to calm herself. Remembering the sound and feel of the note she gave the nudge to her air sacks again and tried to control the tone that came out. It wasn't perfect but it wasn't bagpipes either. Giving her self a second to recover she tried again with better results.
And so it went with Tessa clicking the recorder and giving Del a sound to listen to and repeat. Sometimes the girl was capable of repeating the sound and sometimes Tessa was forced to place her hands over her ears due to mistakes. In the end though the efforts were considered passable and Del was allowed to leave with a list on instructions on how to continue her practice at home.

Dear journal:
Life is crazy right now. I mean really crazy, like when the house dissapeared crazy. Strange things are happening at D-corp. The dragons were acting weird and then we tried to help them but things got worse. I agree with the techs on some issues but the dragons were right to be angry about some stuff to. It doesn't excuse that crazy black dragon for hurting so many people though.
I'm still not sure all of what happened there so I'll probably write more about it later.
Then there was Halloween.

Dear journal:
Holiday shopping is a pain, too many people, not enough good present choices and prices are ridiculous for a child who has more than few friends. Still I think i should be able to get everyone I care about something different. Echo's getting a stocking and present from me this year as well. I can't believe I forgot him last time.
Not enjoying the cold weather at all but Echo needs exorcise so we shovel the deck each time it snows as well as play outside with Gil for a bit each day. Still I think we'll both gain a bit of weight this holiday season. Especially with dad planning lots of extravagant meals and having junk food on hand.
Looking forward to putting up the tree and decorate out place this year. Del

Del watched the minutes count down to midnight on the t.v. Soon soon it would be 2008 and everything would be different. Well not right away but everything would change. It was a chance for the Dolphin girl to start over and make things right. No more wandering around doing bits of everything and giving up when things got hard. No more silly dreams only attainable goals.
2008 was the year to return to the weapons practice she'd started at d-corp and to return there and get more lessons. It was the year to grow up with Echo and really aim for something in the future. This year Del had seen too much spiral out of control but things were finally starting to make sense. She had a secure home a stable family and a better idea of who she really was. This had been a year of learning next year would be a year of doing.
That was her resolution, not to plan next year but to do. To set goals and really go out and achieve them. Most important was to spend more time really bonding with Echo and working on their teamwork as opposed to her leading and his following. The dragon rebellion had taught her that respect went a long way and that abuse of that respect lead to nothing good. Del trusted Echo but she needed to earn that trust and deserve it.
3 2 1 it was 2008 and everything was going to be different.

Studying
Del sat on her bed watching t.v and studying at the same time. She was watching music videos and singing along as best she could. Slowly but surely Del was training her voice as she'd been taught by Tessa As much as she could the Dolphin girl was trying to match her pitch the various singers, she figured she'd learn pitch first then work on being able to hold the notes as long as some of them could.
Echo usually abandoned her during her practise which made Del wonder how bad she might be. Then Again Gil didn't seem too bothered by it. Either way Del needed to continue and to work on improving her echolocation. Summer was coming again and she wanted to do some underwater orienteering this year, for that she would need map reading skills and use of her echolocation.
This was also the start of her resolution to work harder this year, to really do something with herself. She would try and be a good role model for her brother and do things she could be proud of. this wasn't much but it was a start.
