[ORp] Deliberate Deliberation

Meetings were something Pomona could handle. They weren’t always pleasant, but the typical lack of something-trying-to-actively-kill-her meant it was one Senshi duty that she could handle without looking like a total fail-whale.

The fact that Polaris – Princess Polaris – was leading the meeting was somewhat surreal though. Sure, she’d already known her former roommate was a Princess, but in Pomana’s mind Polaris was still just Polaris, despite the small part of her brain that said Princesses were supposed to be treated, well, differently. It was enough to give a girl a headache.

When Polaris asked if and older Senshi/Knights were willing to help the new ones, Pomona was one of the people that hesitated before raising her hand. She could probably teach Senshi 101, but it would be the blind leading the blind if someone asked her for combat/sparring tips. As for teams, well, she was kinda on a team? It was rather haphazard though, so Pomona didn't want to make any official declarations about it, but when Pomona spied Ambrosia up front she still felt compelled to wriggle her way through the crowd to reach the Chibi-Senshi’s side.

“ Hi there.”

~*~

Ambrosia’s words left Pomona flailing for a minute, trying to think of a diplomatic response. “ It’s… definitely interesting, yes.”

Pomona’s attention was torn, trying to pay attention to multiple threads of conversation at once. It was the argument that she ultimately paid attention to, mostly because it was the loudest and biggest and thus hardest to ignore. Not having a firm stance on the Negaverse herself, she mostly stayed quite. She’d certainly prefer a diplomatic route, but thinking that it’d actually work seemed a bit naïve. Not that she liked Lina’s answer any more, but she figured that the Knight was probably one of the most knowledgeable about the Negaverse.

“ Considering her history and all, I ‘d think Lina Knight would know what she’s talking about.” She muttered, shaking her head.

Then Polaris spoke, and Pomona found herself agreeing on most of what she said. Heck, even if they could restore the abandoned planets, they’d probably be looking at living in medieval conditions at best. After all, what was the likelihood that they’d be able to produce things like electricity and medicine on their planets? Besides, there was still one other problem.

“ Even if we could leave for our planets, what guarantee could the Negaverse and Dark Mirrors make that we could believe? Leaving Earth would mean leaving it in their hands, having to be able to trust them both to take care of Earth and to not to pursue us off it.” She shrugged, then added,“ Could be wrong, but I don’t think Elysion and The Surrounding count in their favor with the latter problem.”

“ I suppose diplomacy is worth a shot, keeping in mind it may end in death or corruption. And getting more information never hurts.”

Not the most passionate argument – hell, part of it wasn’t even an argument, more of her argumentative Irish side playing Devil’s Advocate – but she just wanted to make sure people were thinking things through.

Order vs. Chaos: Ambush

There went the neighborhood. Pomona should’ve known the quiet – so to speak; there’d actually been a lot of shouting going on, but whatever – wouldn’t last. Here they’d been, just minutes ago discussing the merits of diplomacy when the baddies decided to throw in their two cents by crashing the party and picking a fight. Next time someone brought up the idea of diplomacy, she’d have to remind them of tonight.

Assuming she survived the night, of course. She’d only had enough to realize that their meeting had attracted party-crashers before there’d been a bang and lots of smoke. Pomona ended up on her butt, her lungs attempting to evacuate her body via her mouth. When things had finally cleared enough that she could see again, she was met with an even more disheartening sight: masks. The enemy had gas masks. Unless she could find someone scantily clad – a rare thing in the Negaverse, which she thought very unfair considering what Senshi had to fight in – or that had taken off their mask, her attack would be useless.

The final straw was the Dark Mirrors. Ares herself was here, and Pomona vividly remembered her last encounter with the woman. Sure, she had survived – hadn’t gotten a scratch, actually – but she still wasn’t keen on drawing the woman’s attention. Then there was also the fact that Pomona suspected that at least one of the Dark Mirrors would be happy to kill her, and unfortunately Pomona knew she wouldn’t be able to claim the innocent victim in that case.

So, when all was said and done, what did Pomona do? She bravely ran away. Well, she ducked behind a bit debris, stalling for time and waiting for her initial panic to recede. When it finally did, she realized that she’d forgotten something very important. Two somethings, actually.

Lenka?! Ambrosia?!”

~*~

Pomona had been being... well, not very useful. Not like that was a surprise. Thus far she’d spent most of the fight either hiding behind various objects or lobbing debris at enemies from a safe distance. That was probably why she’d managed to get nothing worse then a scraped knee so far. But oh, was that about the change.

“ Gack!”

Seemingly out of nowhere, a body collided with her’s from behind, tackling her to the ground. The impact left Pomona winded and somewhat dazed, precious seconds ticking by as she tried to figure out what the hell had happened. How had she not seen this person coming? It was a human, for crying out loud! Unless she was fighting The Invisible Man, how could she not have seen-

Oh. Ah, crap. Her.

Realizing who, exactly, was likely on her was enough for Pomona to finally mount an effort to dislodge her attacker.

~*~

The punch landed, splitting Pomona’s lip. She winced and investigated the new wound gently with her tongue as she got to her feet.

“ I’m, ah, glad to hear that.”

And actually, she was. Recalling that night was still enough to make a little ball of shame settle in her stomach. And if that wasn’t confusing as heck, she didn’t know what was. Feeling bad for beating up an enemy? But there it was.

Leto looked plenty ready to start a fight, fists up and raring to go. Pomona, however, simply stood there. It was stupid and potentially suicidal – after all, Leto was a stage three now, and Pomona had merely been lucky before – but she found herself oddly reluctant. She didn’t want to fight Leto. She should, but she didn't. This was going to suck.

“ I just want to say that I didn’t mean for, well, all that. Not, ah, not to that degree.” She paused for a second, then added, “ That sounded really lame, didn’t it?”

Of course any semblance of eloquence would abandon her when she could actually use it. Naturally. Pomona hope Leto spoke gibberish, because if she was going to get her a** handed to her in penitence, she’d like to know that her regrets had at least been made clear.

... did she mention that this was going to suck?

~*~

Pomona wanted to cry foul – sending out wraiths to attack her allies when she was right here was not cool – but the knee to her chest made that impossible. Lungs, Pomona was quickly discovering, were needy creatures. They required air to function, and they tended not to work so well when taking hits.

The only bright point at the moment was that Pomona’s feathery, asymmetrical hair was not the easiest to get a hold of. It looked longer then it really was. Pomona could feel the girl’s fingers slipping through her hair, trying to get a hold, and tensed to jerk her head free…

… when she abruptly went flying across the room, slamming into a wall.

“ *wheeze* ”

Ow. Ow, Ow, OW! That train of thought, if you could call it that, was all that was on Pomona’s mind. She’d had some of her hair ripped out, she’d had the breath knocked out of her for the second time in a matter of minutes, and she was pretty sure that her back was going to be a mosaic of bruises in the morning.

~*~

So Pomona had just been sitting there, getting her breath back after being temporarily turned into a human ping-pong ball, when ******** it all if everything didn’t go to hell in a handbasket. There was a bang and a flash and a bunch of smoke, and Pomona was choking and wheezing, not having gotten her breath back properly in the first place. Her lungs protested this abuse, her brain protested her lungs’ protests, and with a “Screw you!” to all this nonsense, Pomona’s body decided – without her approval, it should be said – to shut down.

And so Pomona promptly blacked out, not even getting a chance to say "Wassup?" to Sinon.

~*~

The little boost granted by Iris’s magic was enough to rouse Pomona from her beauty sleep. She stirred, opening her eyes and the furrowing her brow at her position on the floor. When had that happened? Oh yeah, right, Lady Luck screwing her with a flash, bang, and smoke.

Hoisting herself into a sitting position, Pomona looked around, noticing Sinon at her side just before her attention was drawn to Iris. Princess Iris.

“ See, told you so.” She said to Sinon, stabbing a finger in Iris’s direction. Then she seemed to think better of her statement and backtracked. “ No, no, that’s not right. I didn’t tell you so; I wanted to tell you so though.”

Apparently getting knocked out hadn’t improved Pomona’s communication skills.

~*~

Pomona was tired, but she was back on her feet. She had to do something, because thus far she’d been pretty darn useless. She decided on attacking a wraith. Spying one passing close to a Chaos member, she lobbed a Pepper Grenade in its direction, hoping to get a two-for-one.

One moment Pomona had been lobbing Pepper Grenades, then she’d be worrying about the sound of sirens, then she’d magically ended up on another freakin’ planet. The Moon, to be specific. With the ghost of some Moon royalty talking to them, giving what was probably some sort of comforting or rallying speech, but Pomona wasn’t paying attention.

They had been losing. They, the good guys, had been undeniably getting their asses handed to them. Every story and movie out there ended with good triumphing over evil, but that wasn’t what happened to today. Instead they had had a meeting where the tension and disorganization of their ranks had been put on display, and then there had been a disastrous battle that had shown just how very dangerous their squabbling was.

Now there was this ghost queen. The fabled Moon Queen had always been just that to Pomona: a fable, a myth, a fairy tale. One day she would come and unite them, and at last they would be the force for good necessary to win against Chaos once and for all. The reality, however, was somewhat lacking. She was a ghost. There were Senshi that wouldn’t rally around the living Princesses that they already had, so there was no hope that a ghost would unite them.

It was… disappointing. Yeah, great, now they had a safe meeting spot, but they were still ultimately at a stalemate.
