◄ ------------- ♦ Feeling Good ♦ ------------- ► Everything was looking up. It had taken a little longer than expected but with the music center well underway, the only thing left to do was get the word out. Already a few folks had walked in to see what the building had to offer. Thanatos almost clicked his boots in glee at the sight of children begging their parents to learn a musical instrument. He done his best to explain what the center had to offer, the staff, the facilities and even rentals for anyone who wasn't completely sold on an instrument. Smiling inwardly, Xan looked around wondering where his charge had wondered off to.
Said charge was moving through the halls at his own lazy pace. Most of the children that had filled the halls moved out the way, struck in awe at the strange creature. "Look mommy I want one." A little boy begged but his mother hushed him and ushered the child into an adjacent room. Domvelo didn't bother a size long glance. He was hell and determined to get to the back room where all the string instruments were stashed. He liked the big violin that sat on the floor. Xan had told him it was a cello. He didn't get why humans had so many names for things but he liked the strings, the sounds it made. So deep, strong and commanding and in some ways it could give off a delicate, feminine tune. He really liked the instrument but wasn't sure he could play it. To make up for his constant neglect, Thanatos had promised Domo that he'd teach him how to play it. And dammit he was going to make sure that idiot guardian made good on his promise or he would have hell to pay.

◄ ------------- ♦ Life in Monochrome ♦ ------------- ► Plucking the string, Domo smiled under his mask, the simple acted twinkle all the way to his eyes. He was in love. The deep thrum of the string reached into a place he didn't dare say. Plucking another string produced yet another sound. This slow dance of plucking, listening, then plucking brought Xan's attention to Domo's whereabouts.
"Ah there you are." He gave a soft smile while leaning against the door frame.
The smile never left from the frei's eyes as he used both hands to try and understand the cello better. He knew that it would be much harder to play with the lack of five fingers as apposed to having only four on each hand. That didn't deter Domo he would simply have to accommodate or get a cello made special for him. Xan had the money of that he was certain. "You will get Domo one." He spoke smoothly, a liquid voice that filled the room with no room for arguemtn. Xan smiled. He was used to Domevlo's commands most of them slid from his chest to be ignored. Xan had to keep the upper hand as guardian or the other would get out of hand. Their relationship was strained, almost broken but he would fix it that was for certain.
"Yes. You will have one customized. You have a slight handicap that will make it a bit harder to play." Nudging his head in the direction of his fingers it was the obvious thing. Domo nodded and plucked a string once more before his boredom took over. Assuming his usual hidden expression he floated idle for a moment before slipping past Xan back into the hall. "Color will be white." Again no argument.
"I'll see what I can do." Xan replied keeping the upper hand without courting his ire. Domo nodded in response and continued down the hall, watching the children and their parents. He wondered for a moment if this were a family place but then he noticed some older people without children were taking a look around and talking to staff.
"Lessons." Not a question.
"At night, privately." Better to keep him away from the crowd and from losing his patience. He wouldn't learn fast and that would annoying Domo. Xan sighed, he wasn't looking forward to the outbursts but maybe with time, Domevlo would come to love his new hobby. And with it, he would have an outlet to help filter his unpredictable mood swings. This, an issue that Thantos had been noting as of late. So far he hadn't addressed his charge about it, but too many nights he had found Domo staring off into the night sky a rather somber expression in his eyes.
Depressed? Anxious? He couldn't say but it was best to give the frei his space for now. With a little time maybe Domo would come to trust him again, respect and who knew love. Thanatos really needed to know he hadn't failed him. The closest person to a son to him, Thanatos was not of a mind to fail again. Distracted from his thought, a young woman came into view asking a flurry of questions. Xan smiled kindly resting a polite hand on the small of the woman's back ushering her away, "Excuse me, Domevlo." With no response from his charge, Xan gave a lasting gaze before turning his full attention to the woman.

◄ ------------- ♦ Understanding ♦ ------------- ► Okay it was time for a compromise. Domevlo had been weighing his options for a few days now. Thinking back to the time he had poisoned those mutts he realized now it wasn't a good idea to make them enemies. For more than one reason alone but the majority was that those damn creatures would be useful in the long run. While he was still estranged from his guardian he couldn't remove his concerns completely. What would happen to him if Thanatos were injured or even worse killed? Would they seek a new guardian?
These were options he found to be true if learning from the Labs need to give guardianship to raevans in need. Many of his kin had been re-homed to new persons and in so doing, they hadn't been all that receiving. While Domevlo had no problem being keeping a distance from the cowboy he did not relish the idea of being uprooted and planted into a completely different home life.
So with this in mind he sat quietly while the two mutts in question stared him down. Atreyu and Pantera, affectionately named so after the aforementioned bands. "We must understand each other. You will protect Thanatos at all cost while this one, Domo, will refrain from using you creatures as experiments." This was spoken to the two as if they were people, to Domevlo, in some cases he figured dogs were quite intelligent. Much research had gone into understand how a dog responded to its master. As long as the two Siberian Huskies understood his plight they would be under his protection.
Seeming to communicate amongst themselves, Atreyu and Pantera gave quizzical glances to one another before turning to Domo. As if to understand him they both seemed to nod. "This is good." He acknowledged and floated to his full height. "We are in agreement. You will protect Thanatos no matter what. If harm should come to him then the same fate will befall you both. Understood?" Without looking for a response the frei excused himself deciding other matters where in order. He did so love it when a plan came to fruition.

◄ ------------- ♦ ℳerry Christmas Kiddo! ♦ ------------- ► Xan had been working tirelessly all night long getting all the decorations ready for the morning. Apparently his charge was one of those types that liked to snoop around and try to open presents early. After an unbecoming tantrum, Xan felt it best to take everything down and hide all his gifts. Now he spent the better part of the early morning erecting the tree, decorating it and making sure all the lights worked properly. He was just finished putting the gifts under the tree as the early morning sun began to rise over the horizon.
With a sigh he went to the kitchen to make himself some coffee. Getting the coffee machine ready he turned it on and went about cleaning the kitchen and straightening up the living room of any loose debris. The coffee machine went off moments later alerting its completion. Returning to the kitchen he poured himself a mug and went into the living room to watch the sun rise higher in the sky. Sipping his coffee he let the warm liquid calm his sleep depraved nerves while waiting for his charge to wake.
For a moment he sat in silence until the distant click-clack of claws on hardwood floors distracted his reverie. Smiling he looked toward the foyer as Atreyu and Pantera came into the living room. Atreyu laid his head on Xan's lap while Pantera simply looked out the window for any signs of life. She soon became bored and went to find a comfortable spot near the tree. Petting Atreyu's head, Xan remained silent sipping his coffee.
This was how Domevlo would find them, as he entered the living room looking around with a shoked expression. He rubbed his eyes with the heel of his hands once, twice then blinked. Looking from Xan and the dogs toward the tree and presents strewn about collectively. "What do you think?" Xan said, smiling warmly. He placed his coffee on the end table and stood carefully side stepping Atreyu.
"This is for Domo?"
Xan chuckled coming closer to gauge Domo's reaction. "Yep. All you kiddo." He stood by quietly allowing Domo a moment to take it all in.
"But the presents, the tree. You took them away." The cowboy nodded but smiled. "Why?"
"I told you not to open the presents. You didn't listen and even got angry enough to throw a few of them and mess with the tree decorations. Not cool, kid. Not cool at all." Thanatos informed. "I took it all down to preserve your Christmas, buddy. It's okay to open the gifts now though."
"Domo can open them?" He blinked a few times then gave Xan a pointed glare, not trusting the cowboy on his word. Too many times he had given his trust freely and had met with disappointment. Not today. "No. Domo not trust you."
Xan only smiled and moved in closer wrapping his arms around the lead frei. "Kid. We really need to find some common ground. You know you're the world to me right?" Domo managed a slight nod despite how he felt. "Then can you trust that whenever I do anything it's in your best interest?" Another nod though a little hesitant. "That's all I ask. Just try to believe that anything I do is in your best interest. Even if you don't trust me." Domevlo remained quiet for the most part looking to the cowboy as they unwrapped themselves from the hug. "Go ahead. Open them." Hesitantly at first, Domo gave one more weary glace before he floated over to the tree stopping to look at it with awe. The tree at the Christmas party had been white, the one he stood before was white as well, decorated with blue, red and green lights. Iridescent tensile had been used to create an icicle effect. While a simple gold North start sat atop the tree blinking softly. He gave himself a moment to smile hidden under his mask.
Moving forward he floated low to the ground reaching out to take a gift in hand. He read the tag which stated it was from Thanatos. Looking behind him, Xan gave a simple nod of encouragement. With his green light, Domo ripped open the present growing more excited at the small garment box. Opening it produced an audible gasp as masks of varying colors lay inside; some with designs and others with bright and/or muted colors. Pulling one out he looked it over and wondered how it would look on him. Though he wasn't big on fashion he was thankful that someone had the forethought to get something practical. "Thank you." He muttered and went about opening the next gift. It was quite tall along his height and a healthy width. As he began ripping the wrapping he was met with another box, pulling the box open produced a sleek white cello with silvery strings. Thrumming the string with a finger brought a crisp deep 'twang'. Another secret smile spread across his features as he pulled the cello closer to him in a gentle embrace. "It's beautiful. So white." He breathed.
"I take it you love it." Domo nodded vigorously in reply. "Good. Merry Christmas, Kiddo." Domo turned what could possibly be a winning smile toward Xan if his bright eyes were any indication. He thrummed the cello once more gleefully heading for the remaining presents.
