((I was thinking of the fountain fairies as employees, actually. Y'know, hired to maintain the fountain's spell. Their decorative qualities are a bonus, of course. xD As for rewards, I didn't think I'd need to think one up, since we're not going to mention that, I think... but if it's needed, here are a few possibilities:
1) Protection from poachers and hunting for their magical parts
2) Assistance in the protection of their own home/forest territory by a mage
3) Stuff that fairies like, like... um... shiny things? Food? I dunno. xD))

(( wasn't actually expecting you to come up with rewards. I was just saying, for the sake of the story, that they would not work for free. It was really just something that popped into my head that that must be why they are there, and I wanted everyone else to realize this too, so that nobody would think that people in this world could just command creatures to do as they wished just because. I guess in this case I could consider the fact that I even brought it up to be a short, and semi-meaningless, rant...))

((About the dragon being able to speak, what I meant was in other ways than words, I guess I assumed the dragons being rational, intelligent creatures had a form of written communication, and of course there is always speaking with ones hands, or claws in his case. That's another thing, I think it would be really beneficial to the rp if the creatures could speak to other humans. They themselves are becoming as much characters as the people it seems.
Sorry about overstepping, I'll check with you first next time (either case, I made it a 'legend' so you could discard it as a fairytale if you didn't like it).
Wouldn't it be a neat plot twist if Sai was the actual descendant?))

Vilya shrugged, "I guess all I've heard is rumors as well, apart form the actual legend."
The mist vanished before Vilya turned back to her friend. And she did not seem aware that it had been there at all.
((Meaning Vilya did not have anything to do with it ^^*whisper* the library's enchanted, any story you read or tell is shown in a mist that appears when you begin. Is that legal?))
"I heard once, that his real heir was concealed from the court and hidden away in a remote village." She leapt nimbly down from where she had stood, moving over to a dusty bookshelf and scanning the titles idly.
"But there are so many different stories, it's hard for any to claim truth, I'll go with the Empress being the actual heir, it seems the most logical, and least problematic."
Vilya was not all too familiar with politics, but she knew enough to step lightly around matters of ruling and royalty.
She finally came across a title that looked interesting and picked a heavy volume off the shelf.
"Great Wars of the Past." She read the title out loud, then held the book out to Sai. "Was this the kind of thing you were looking for?"

((Question; what year is it and how long has time been recorded in this world?))

"I've never heard the one about his heir being hidden away." Sai said to his friend. "Yeah, that's pretty much what I was looking for, thanks."

Sai accepted the book and stepped over to a simple wooden table and pulled out a chair that was just as simple and wooden, one of few arrayed about the room. He sat down and, carefully setting the book down on the table, opened the front cover of "Great Wars of the Past" and began to read.

((I actually intend to keep it as part of the story, and I suppose it's possible, though I highly doubt that Sai is the descendant. The enchantment is perfectly legal considering where it is and who, most likely, cast it. As for the year... I have no idea... And as for written history I would say that it has been recorded for maybe only a few hundred years before the first bonding, which is speculatively included in history. The, supposed at least, original binding occurred roughly 900 years ago. We'll say that they count their years according to their written history so we'll say that it's... 1259?...))

((Not to burst people's bubble, but if the festival isn't going to be a huge portion, like the battle with the dragon sage, could we maybe jump inside it quickly, so we can get the story moving again?))

The varieties of shops and games set up to entertain kept Minatsuki amused for hours, wondering around the streets and picking up souvenirs here and there. By the time she finally decided to head back to the castle, the sky was beginning to fade into fire red twilight. Looking up, Minatsuki easily found the glowing phoenix in the sky, gliding over the town.

Ignoring the eyes of others, Minatsuki jumped from the ground to where Asako was by using different parts of a building as a stepping stone. Safely mounted on the fire bird's back, Minatsuki swung a new ribbon around Asako's neck, despite the complaint, as Asako flew towards the castle.

((That would be up to Griffin. I've left her mostly in charge of this village and pretty much everything to do concerning it. So it's up to her.))

((One festival, coming right up! And Stoic, feel free to move things along or add things as you wish, it may be my village but ultimately it is your rp, I shall go with the flow. cool
All right, everyone can just jump to the castle if they wish, time to Par-tay! *is perhaps a little too excited* ))

Vilya selected her own book from among the many shelves and sat on a thin cushioned bench, pulling her legs onto it as well (but keeping her shoes over the edge). She settled down and began to read. The mist had already appeared close to Sai, and threw forth images of great battles. At first Vilya was startled as she looked up from reading and was about to alert Sai, but as she watched she understood and identified the enchantment.
She thought to herself as she watched the scenes change.

With that thought for comfort she tucked into her book.

Vilya lost track of time after that. The next thing she knew the sun through the stained glass had darkened and crept nearly all the way up the eastern wall.
Tura appeared like a shadow in the open doorway. She stepped into the room as Vilya set her book aside.
Vilya asked the gryphon as she stretched and got up.

Silver Griffin
Meki was stung at first by the human's mirth, he felt the tips of his short ears burn. But as he listened to the kind words he looked round with appreciation before getting to his feet.
He looked up at the sky with a blatant longing in his eyes, then turned and raced to Damiano's side. He walked beside him, head held high and his tail swaying rhythmically behind his short legs.
Kusanagi chuckled at his son's antics.
He said, letting the pride he felt for the young dragon leek into his mind-voice.
he said suddenly.
As Kusanagi spoke, they made their way up a small hill and the brilliant white stone of the castle turrets rose up to meet them.
The gates were made of iron and intricately decorated. On either side of the main entrance stood a large stone dragon, staring seriously down at the cobbled path just before them.

"My word! Is this the palace of the Dragon Sage?" asked an awestruck Damiano who was, for once, happy that his mask hid his gaping mouth. He hadn't seen a building quite like this in at least a year, since the time he left his grandfather's house; it was more of a monastery than a house, now that he thought of it however. Still, the architecture, the sculptures, and even the general environment was exasperating. He was breathless, unable to take in such pristine air for it was too pure for his lungs. Still, he had to breath, even in this air, or he would no be able to grow further, let alone live through the hour.

Ark was, as he said, also quite awestruck with the structure. He had seen, in his moderately long life, many a beautiful place but never one quite like this. The dragon statues that bore down on them were magnificently made. His eyes could spot the intricacies, all of them. It was outstanding, beautiful.

Arkanathalasana couldn't bring himself to saying anything else. He had projected his words into thoughts as well so that Damiano could understand the conversation. Damiano had given a rather dark glare near the end of the statement. The Maghi Anima in him was stirring, Ark could feel it.

"What my companion was going to say, great Kusanagi, is that while I nothing more than a thought of the future in my parents' minds, my uncle took on a shade for his companion. The shade destroyed him! I was young, young enough to be shielded by falsehoods but not so young that I would forget. I detest shades and their ilk. All they do is destroy what is truly beautiful in this world. I would, if it were my voice that decreed the laws of the realm and its magicks have them banished to the lowest levels of the Hells and the Abyss!" stated Damiano in a single breath which left him red in the face and slightly dazed. He took a moment to breath, calming himself and allowing his better nature to cure his aching heart of the anger he was experiencing. The truth, the grudge, the blood ties; all was revealed this moment.

"I beg your pardons, great Kusanagi. I allowed by passion to get the better of me. But you must understand, I will never accept a shade, not for what it has done to my family. Not for what its kind has done to the Maghi Anima," with that Damiano withdrew and became silent. He tried not to brood, and managed well. Still, he could feel the foreboding air about him, and it further disturbed him. Arkanathalasana could feel it as well. He gave a sympathetic look to his companion, and then turned his gaze to Kusanagi. His thoughts were closed to his companion, leaving the young magus in his solitude. His voice was only for the other dragons now.

Ark's voice trailed off, ending on a relatively sad note. when he saw Meki, he smiled. There was one who wouldn't understand. Or maybe the wyrmling would? It was not of his knowledge to tell. He hoped the young dragon would remain blissfully unaware of what had just transpired.

Simurgh immediately swirled into the air, once again regaining her giant form in a colorful flash. She let out a cry, adding to the effect, and every human in the square looked up in wonder and appreciation. Many of them has seen the phoenix-like behemoth several times, since Lamen had visited before- but she was still as magnificent a sight as always. Her bright sky hues seemed a direct opposite of the shade's dark and shapeless body... and opposable to Lamen's entirely gray color scheme as well.
Simurgh was cut off by the mage's amused voice.

The avian sighed, turning to head for the castle herself, her long tailfeathers lashing the air almost irritably.

"Well then! That was Simurgh's true form. The castle is designed for dragons, so she shall have no trouble shaking her feathers around there. I'd love to take up your offer." Lamen smiled at Aiva and asked Umbra politely, before hopping on: "May I?"

"It would be my pleasure." Umbra said changing into a dragon,"Because of space constraints, I am only making my back solid." He added. Aiva climbed onto Umbra's back and waited for Lamen to get on.

Sai had been thoroughly engrossed in reading of the great wars and battles of the past when Vilyas voice intruded into his reverie.

"Two more, eh? I wonder how many combatants there are that live here in the village as well? There are eight of us from outside the village now, that we know of anyways... Well, let's go meet them shall we?" Sai said.

He stood and walked over to the bookshelf that he had seen Vilya take the book from that he had been reading. He replaced it in its original spot. He walked over to Vilya and waited for her to lead the way back to the courtyard. Honestly he had been feeling extremely tired at the time and had not been paying attention to how they had gotten to the library. He doubted he could find his way back without help.

Kusanagi watched the mage's back for a while before turning his full attention to Ark.

Meki ran ahead of them through the gates, sliding to a halt in front of the water dragoness Lessir. She nuzzled him fondly before nodding to Kusanagi and taking the little dragon away with her. She was not his mother, yet she acted as such in her absence. Lessir was very devoted to Meki.
Kusanagi breathed deep and let out a sigh.
There was a long pause as Kusanagi lifted his head to the fiery western sky.

Tura stood by, waiting for the two humans to leave first.
Vilya took Sai's hand, pulling him through the doors behind her and not bothering to hide the excitement she felt.
"This'll be the biggest festival I've ever been to. Come on!" She ran ahead, turning on her heel to make sure Sai was following as she rounded a corner.

Tura said, walking quickly after her. Of course the gryphon knew what she meant. The sickness that swept through her small village when Vilya was young had taken nearly all of the children. She had grown up without anyone even close to her age.
Tura watched her carefully, keeping her thoughts to herself;

Sai was surprised at first when Tura had taken his hand, there had been no girls in his village in his age range and he was sometimes uncomfortable when in close proximity to them, but he let himself be led anyways. He had to hurry or else she would pull him right off of his feet, and no doubt keep going while dragging him across the floor. She seemed very exited.

"Tura, slow down." Sai said, he could feel his weariness returning. He still had not eaten since the battle earlier. "I can barely keep up with you running like this. Aren't you still tired from the battle too?"

((Isn't Tura a gryphon? xDD Vilya is the one that took Sai's hand.

LAZY POST COMING UP! 8D *just wants to arrive already xP*))

Lamen climbed onto Umbra, settling comfortably on his back. There was no saddle though, as she was accustomed to- and the mage did not have the leg strength to hold on herself... so she waved a hand slowly with nimble finger movements near the spot where she sat, murmuring "Festet på luft." It was a fixation spell that couldn't last very long, one that she had created herself for riding Simurgh when the weather was particularly bad- it was unstable, for it functioned on elemental air, who was difficult to still. It was not in its nature to do so. In her moments of study, she was trying to perfect the spell by calling upon a spirit rather than the elements themselves- although the elements were simpler to understand, they were harder to control for more complex functions. Spirits, however, had to be more specifically called, and were more difficult to find and persuade into service- a kind of bond did have to take place, although not quite the same as that of a mage-creature bond. She wondered if this was quite the same as Umbra's case, and decided that it wasn't. Aiva's case was a special one.

"Simurgh is leading the way to the castle- you need only follow her."

The bird- arriving at her destination, stretched her legs frontwards, giant wings flapping only once before executing her graceful landing in the courtyard. The wind she created was so strong that several bushes and plants almost blew over, but a precast spell rearranged them. It would have to be so, or with all the dragons that landed here, the garden would be in permanent mess. She peered upwards in satisfaction, seeing that Umbra was indeed following her, and not carrying her partner off somewhere else.
