Aiva was laying on Umbra's back looking at the ground. Umbra was in the shape of a dragon, 'Flying' about 100 feet above the tallest building.

Aiva asked.
Umbra replied.

Aiva turned red when called her that. It meant 'evil little mistress'. Aiva didn't mind being called evil, or mistress, but she hated being called little.

Aiva said.
Umbra said, landing in the street.

Aiva hopped off Umbra's back, and he changed to his normal form. "Are you combatants?" Aiva asked the peple around the entrance to inn. They looked like it, they all had an animal accompanying them.

((LOL!! If Creed is superior then your status, you can call him -sama razz Of course, it's really for the actual upper class people... Or the gangstaz 8D OMFG! I'M FINALLY IN BOGU IN MY KENDO CLASS!! 8DDDDDDD))

Mintasuki was surprised when the small dragon had approached so close to her, but she could not help but gawk at the metal tin and the scale of the two dragons. Almost out of impulse, she raised her hand, but stopped in mid-air, smiling sheepishly at Meki. Stepping out of the two dragon's ways, she smiled and waved at them.

"That's nice... Well, then. I will catch up with you guys later. I need to get something from the market."

Minatsuki turned and walked away, Asako hovering over the town and above Minatsuki.

With a slightly sad smile, Minatsuki looked up at Asako, but continued onward to a clothing vendor. Instead of a regular cloak with a lighter material, Minatsuki bought a cloak made of heavy material that shifted little when she walked, similar to her previous one. Satisfied with the purchase, she walked around the town, witnessing all the preparations for the festival and taking in the excitement of the moment; she missed her own town's festival.

"My word! You are a wonderful sight now aren't you? I assume you are little Meki's parent? I can see the resemblance in your wings," Damiano said quite impressed with the display. Such regal and noble creatures dragons were. He had no doubt that the great green before him had spoken to his companion the moment the creature had raised its eyes to the sky. He wondered if, perhaps, he should call Ark down to the street. Of course, doing so would mean his silver wyrm would have to finish his free flight, something he doesn't get to do so freely in other civilized lands. Just at the moment, Damiano heard Ark's thoughts touch his mind.

Arkanathalasana inquired respectfully. Damiano had no intentions of spoiling his companion's fun and returned his thought, Ark replied enthusiastically. It had been a while, the dragon thought, since he had last spread his wings to full length to soar above the clouds in the midday sun. It was at this moment he noticed anther dragon, this one being a rider and flapping its wings awkwardly as though it weren't sure how to fly.

Damiano felt a small pain in his mind, perhaps the empathic link between him and his companion was telling him that the proud creature had been slightly hurt by his interjection. He made a note to apologize for it later, when he knew he was in no immediate danger. Damiano watched as his own dragon, and the awkward one took to the ground. Ark was graceful, his movements precise and his scales glistening in the sun. He landed a few feet from them, far enough for him to take a few carefully paced steps to avoid any pedestrians.

Their attentions were both drawn to the oddity of a drake which seemed to fly straight despite how its wings moved. The rider leapt off without trouble and posed a question.
Damiano asked his companion. He could see the dragon's eyes narrow slightly, scrutinising the new human presence. was the dragon's reply. Today, they would not be combatants. Today was a day of relaxation and festivities. This new magician was of no consequence to him.

"I'm afraid I am not a combatant this day. Even so, I would not accept a challenge from someone who is followed by vaporous shades. Not to offend, but it isn't worth my time," Damiano concluded. He didn't trust shades of any sort as companions. They were no more a companion spirit than a pool of mud, unless sad pool of mud had been animated by forces of magic and given sentience, but that was another thought for another time. The dislike for shades as companions ran deep with his family. One of his ancestors held a shade companion once, it was his undoing.

"As for that invitation, I would be happy to accept! please, do lead us to your master's palace, O Wyrm of the Forest Greens," Damiano said in a much more respectable tones to the grand dragon waiting before him. He could just make out the mental image of his own companion smiling at this. Arkanathalasana was amused and in good spirits, it seemed.

Aiva was about to say something rude back, but Umbra spoke before her. "Instead of calling me 'vaporous shades', I would prefer that you called Umbra. And contrary to what most people believe, my kind isn't just a mass of heartless shadows, we have thought and emotions and we can speak." Umbra's voice had always amazed Aiva because she always thought it would sound like groaning, but it actually sounded like a normal voice. Umbra rarely spoke because he rarely talked to anyone but Aiva, so they had always spoke using their telepathic link. Although Umbra’s voice sounded polite, Aiva could tell that he was very offended by the man’s comment.

"Oh? Now this is interesting. I haven't ever seen nor heard a companion speak, let alone out of turn. It seems there may be some substance to you after all, shade," Damiano's word were slathered in sarcasm before he emphasized the word shade. He was not about to acknowledge the name of something he saw as nothing more than vapour. Still, he owed enough respect to any travelling mage to show at least some kindness. He sighed and gave a curt bow of his head, to the lady magician and then tot he shade almost as an act brought by an afterthought.

"Normally I do not act in such a fashion. You caught me unawares and, above all, without introduction! Usually when magi inquire of others if they are combatants they introduce themselves as well. At least, this is how it is done in my society. Failure to do so is customarily replied by the rudeness I show you now. Perhaps, now that I think of it, I should have warned you before acting upon my customs?" He let his one visible eye gaze unwaveringly at the lady magus with the shade companion. Would she introduce herself now? He could not tell for certain, though he doubted it highly. Mages of other societies and cultures never usually understood his practices as they were strange even by normal standards.

Arkanathalasana was troubled by this recent discovery, Damiano could tell. The dragon's tones were grave which, especially in these times of festivities and joy, was not a good omen. replied Damiano, his stoic gaze never shifting as his intense green and amethyst eye took in everything he saw.

((Actually the ability to speak would not be bound. Most creatures simply lack the necessary vocal structure to speak in human languages. Some can though. Say if somebody bound an orc or a goblin it would be able to speak human languages because of its physical similarity to humans. This shade can alter its form, so it can easily make itself capable.))

((Ah, manga. *continues reading Chrono Crusade for the third time*))

Vilya's face lit up, this was the first time on her journey she had had companions to travel with. She shook Sai's hand with probably a little more energy than was needed.
"Well I'd hate to disappoint you," she said with a grin.
"Did you hear that Tura?" She called cheerfully to the gryphon.
Tura flicked her tail before answering in a sarcastic mind voice;

Vilya shook her head before turning to the castle with a hand on one hip.
"While I have time, the sage has given us access to his library. I'm going to go check it out."
She gave Sai a two-fingered salute. "Later then!"
Tura watched her companion go, her expression was perfectly neutral but inwardly she worried about Vilya's trusting nature.

Kusanagi listened to the conversation and watched with a disapproving look. Finally he spoke, his mind-voice a deep yet calm growl.
Regardless
...> Here he fixed Damiano with a stern eye, <...of what prior opinion had.> The green dragon then turned with more grace than expected from a creature of his size and build.
I trust you will both respect master Brantalis enough to hold any dispute you may wish until you are in a more isolated setting.> He then added with a small bow of his head;
Meki watched Mina go, lamenting that his shield had left him. He quickly plodded forward as his father waited patiently for further introductions from the new pair.

((For the sake of staying in character, or in this case, in both characters, I figured it was best to take this as I did. This way I keep away from that oh so heinous role-playing crime of metagaming. That is why I said what I said, S-Ninja.))

reported Ark to his master, still eyeing the shade warily. Damiano had watched the dragon's body movements and coupled with the summary of what the creature had said Damiano had assumed correctly. He sighed for the third time in the past few minutes as he tried desperately to purge his mind of negative thoughts, specifically those about the lady mage and her shade companion. The green dragon, Kusanagi, was right after all. He needed to exert more self control and tame both his ignorance and his blood. replied a happier Damiano. Though his grin was hidden by his mask, Arkanathalasana could tell the young magus was in better spirits.

Raising a hand, Damiano looked to his companion. Ark, without needing further instruction, knelt lower to the ground, his own grace paramount to that of the green wyrm, Kusanagi. Damiano effortlessly climbed onto his companion's shoulders, sitting himself easily enough. a magus who had been travelling for a year now, he had made sure to learn at least this much of how to make use of his companion's abilities whether it simply be riding on his great shoulders on land or in the sky.
"Come now my silver friend, let us not delay any longer. We have an invitation to the sage's estate and it would be rude to make the great one wait," Damiano couldn't help but shift his gaze toward the shade and the magus that claimed mastery of it after openly instructing his companion. He acknowledged then and there that the antipathy he felt for the pair of them would not dissolve by force of will alone. They would have to prove themselves in some fashion.

It was a terrible thought, he knew this well. He was not so blindly arrogant to think himself worthy of anything, especially the proof that one person (an accepted magus no less!) was worth his time. Still, he had no love for creatures that reputedly destroyed all that was beautiful. Shadows in themselves can be beautiful, though the fiendish nature of this shadow, which he could feel in its sentience, simply through the weave of magic around them, was not one that would enhance or create beauty. No, he held no love for this thing, nor did he think he ever would.

"By the request of the great dragon Kusanagi, I have decided to put aside our argument to better enjoy the festivities later. I suggest you do the same," were Damiano's last words to the lady mage. She deserved that much, the knowledge that he would not continue this petty squabble until the right time and place.

Umbra assured Kusanagi.

Aiva kept silent until Damiano had left. She didn't want to speak, for fear of saying something rude. “I am Aiva, and as you already know, this is Umbra.” She said bowing slightly.

((Not long after I started playing Lamen, her personality took on a will of its own- I think I might have strayed just a little from one of the things written in her profile. 8D;; I believe I should edit that, if possible. >.<;; ))

Simurgh, like some of the other bonded and their mages, could not help but feel some disgust at the air around the shade and the girl that rode upon it. She communicated her feelings to Lamen, who stood silently a few feet from Damiano as he and the new stranger exchanged... "greetings". However, Lamen was intrigued- this shade was something special. She had not yet met anything of the sort, and her curiosity erased the sense of threat and danger that should have accompanied its proximity. She stepped forwards and introduced herself when Damiano left in such a hurry- which had almost made her smirk in amusement. It appeared that these people weren't too good with strangers- or perhaps different cultures? Either way, Lamen very much wished to study this "shade" a little longer.

"My apologies for the late introduction. I am Lamen Tvalhal- also not a combatant, as of yet." She spoke casually, while Simurgh was all but- gathering herself close to Lamen protectively, ready to reassume her original form.
"But many have come here for the festival," she continued, "and some have just succeeded in a trial set by the Dragon Sage- the gryphon mage and the girl with a phoenix were of that group. I am certain that you will have no trouble finding an opponent- magic fights are likely to take place as events, and the castle is currently quite populated, as Kusanagi said. Now, since everyone has left before showing you the way to the castle, I suppose I should do. Where would you like to go?" She smiled kindly at the oddly-garbed magician, intending to be her guide in the meanwhile so that Kusanagi could go with his son and deal with other immediate business.

Aiva would have immediately said the castle, but since Damiano was going there too, Aiva decided against it.

He replied in an amused voice.

Aiva quickly checked her clothing, but nothing was wrong with her clothing. She looked around, searching for an explanation to why Umbra was so amused. It was then it hit her, she realized that while everyone else was dressed in ripped, old clothing, she was dressed in a new, expensive, custom made dress. Since she had lived in a village where everyone was either rich or a servant, she hadn’t even noticed the other mages clothing. Aiva felt embarrassed, and she had to keep her face from turning pink.

Aiva telepathically screamed at Umbra.
Umbra replied, now even more amused at the fact Aiva hadn’t realized it.

“I was actually hoping you could show me around town.” Aiva said to Lamen. She made sure she didn’t show that she cared about the fact she was way too dressed up. She began to think of ways to get back at Umbra.

Aiva said. She had used that threat man times, but she couldn’t think of anything else to say.

Sai tilted his head slightly at the way that Vilya had placed her hand on her hip. He dismissed the thought for the moment though.

"Hey, Vilya, wait for me. I wanna see if this library has any interesting history in it. My village never had a lot of books unless they were written by the villagers. We mostly only had spell books, and those could mostly only be viewed by family members." Sai said as he began to walk after the female combatant.

Kin was still swaying along as he aimlessly walked about the streets. Looking around, he noticed many festival stands being setup, lights, and last minute decorations. Kin stopped suddenly and stood in place. "The festival..." I whispered to himself. It was around that time when... My first village was attacked by bandits. Kin thought and then sighed deeply.

Vix asked, noticing Kin's strange behavior.

Kin replied quickly and then began walking again as if nothing had bothered him at all. In between two buildings, Kin noticed a small, but dark ally. Kin loathed being bothered as he slept and would rather be out of the way when the festival got busy. Kin turned and went down the ally way. Kin then sat against the brick building and shut his eyes. Vix slithered by him and then buried down into the ground where there was loose soil, in case he had to guard Kin.

((*Whispers* Lamen, nobody knows Tura is a mage yet. So far everyone believes Vilya is. It's their secret.))

Vilya stopped, waiting for Sai to catch up before continuing up the castle steps. The twin oak doors were open, letting the afternoon sun flood onto the main hall's checkered floor. The drapes that hung over the stonework of the second floor were a deep wine red, trimmed in bright gold. Banners had already been put up inside the hall, promising a grand event within its walls great, stonewalls.
"My village never had many books at all, if you don't count almanacs and farming guides." She threw him a sheepish grin. "I come from a pretty back-water place in comparison to the rest of the continent." There was a hint of regret in her voice, though she tried to hide it. No matter where she went she always felt rather simple, and perhaps it was that feeling that made her so eager to learn.
"It was Tura who actually taught me to read," she made her way up the carpeted stairway, hanging a right and admiring the ancient suits of armor as she opened a smaller, more modest wooden door for the other combatant.
"We've made it sort of a tradition to visit any library we come across."
Vilya checked her memory, making sure she was actually going in the direction she had been told.
"It should be just at the end of this hallway. So, you're interested in history books?"

Kusanagi nodded to the Shade and his companion before starting back to the castle on foot, his son Meki bounding ahead of him brightly after a group of pigeons clustered by the fountain. He decided not to worry about potential conflict, trusting the guests of the sage to conduct themselves in a decent manner. Instead he focused most of his attention on all the events that had been planned for the festival.

((sorry I haven't really been able to keep up guys, schools been killing me.))

Raidek had walked through the portal and ended up in the castle again, excepting the tag from the dragon master, and afterwards made his way to the courtyard again, Fenrir had just arrived in the courtyard when he stepped outside. Both of them tired, Fenrir more than Raidek, moved to the closest tree with decent shade and rested. A short while later Raidek woke up.

Raidek sat there, and laid against a tree while Fenrir slept. It was understandable that Fenrir was still sleeping, it had been a rough week even before they had met Sai and the others, and things didn't seem to be getting much easier.

Sitting there he fumbled between his fingers the tag he had been given. Raidek sighed and looked around the courtyard pondering on his own thoughts, waiting as if for something to happen.
