The Muggle world has demanded a lot of my time recently and will for another few weeks--I apologize for the delay in getting the Valentine results sooner to you, and we're still only half way finished judging the Valentine directory! So I'm looking for help with St Patrick's Events 2008  Where help is needed and would be appreciated is in green:1. Donations of green valuable items (wench skirts, green medieval hats, green fancy masks, emerald this or that) AND/or gold towards buying some to give as prizes. Maybe a corallus egg? AccioFunds has enough to purchase a March letter, but it would be great if folks would donate one or more - I'd like to save AF's funds as much as possible to give out to the House cup winners. I donated heavily, two Gwees in a row plus several collectibles our last events so your donations, as always, are much appreciated. Many thanks for those who donated generously as well for our Valentine Events! 2. Owl (PM) myself or your Head of House if you have any other ideas for a St. Patrick's Day event. Do NOT suggest them in this thread; this thread is for announcements only. Here's rough draft of the Events of the Coming Events and Contests, they'll be up soon, and you're welcome to start on them now. This contest is already up in the Events subforum: House icons: Write or find a blarney statement (funny, descriptive) for any and all of the houses. No duplicating what other Haven members have posted! If you didn't write it, give credit to where you found it. Prizes to the -Funniest one of each house - most moving or stirring one of each house (Houses will vote) - the 8 winners (2 from each house) will each advance to a random draw for 20 house points and a prize. Prizes also to -Best set of 4 canon houses sayings and best any 4 combo houses "Slytherclaw"" Huffledor," etc.    Combo houses Examples     We'll start right now with a Contest:
1000 Gold, 10 House points AND Choice of item from the Cash shop up to $2.99 to the best and most creative transformation of the bear below.

AnnouncementWe have had a number of members who have changed their names recently. If you change your name, you need to inform your Head of House, who will change it in the House roster. This keeps us from going crazy when we are giving out House Points. We suggest you post it in your Common Room to let your Housemates know, too. AnnouncementKimCL Reserving posts IS NOT allowed. It is the equivalent of bumping. If you are an active reserver, you will lose points for your House. One amendment: If you are running a contest, you can reserve one post for announcement of winners. Remember, contests which give out prizes must first be approved by a Head of House. This has been added to our Rules under the "Read Me First Post" and will soon be ported into our "FAQs" section. Before anyone goes crazy looking for our FAQs section, it's only available through your best Divination skills, as our FAQs are in the planning stage and haven't been posted yet. Announcement: Yes, it's a few days past the Muggle world's official St. Patrick's Day. But we of the Magical World have chosen to celebrate a bit longer (...and not just because of LadyHealingHands's second car accident in 3 months causing a delay in posting the events! Unbelievable! Yes, I know in the Muggle world, the wearin' of the green and tributes to Eire have passed, but not so in here in Haven! In fact, all the events are open another 3 days until midnight, March 31 (Monday)!!
Unless y'all get busy and enter, Slytherin has a slam dunk in the very easily entered, very funny, and very rich reward to the winner, Blarney HP stories - Numbered Thread, as of now they have the ONLY entry!
Nothing against Slytherin, but everyone, including more Slytherins, can submit MULTIPLE entries, easily, and the prize---hoo boy!

the exaulted status of Ravenclaw Prefect! From the forthcoming Haven FAQs:
Each Head of House chooses her prefect(s), there is no automatic way to become a prefect the way there is advancing in years as a student.
Prefects - assist Heads of House and mods in "patrolling" - watching out for both outstandingly good or outstandingly illiterate posts. Prefects help keep track of points of house and top point winner for the semester, are called to vote in contests and help with Haven in general. They have to think well of and look out for their House.
Haven prefects are a lot like the ones in Jo's books. Basically they help newcomers, welcome them in, answer questions, write inspirational, motivating posts in their Common Room, patrol for illiteracy as well as outstandingly good posts (which means they must demonstrate good eye for detail as well as be good in spelling and grammar), and make helpful suggestions. Unless they are also a mod, they can't edit posts, but if they spot an illiterate post from their house, they can PM the poster before the poster loses house points and suggest (s)he go back and edit the illiterate thread. They alert Stickler Support when they find an illiterate post from a house other than their own, they alert another mod to help if need be.
And of course, they get to use the prefect's bathroom!
The best way to become a prefect is to act like one. All our current prefects demonstrated that before they were chosen, doing prefect-like duty: tasks when they saw the need, checking in with their Heads of house in tricky situations to ask if what they thought needed doing was ok, before they did it. They also came up with brilliant point winning ideas.

It would have scheduled for next weekend, but Madame Hooch will be in Romania participating in a two day Quidditch Rally. who join the Dueling Club and win! Start by reading the "Dueling Club Explained" sticky! Then go to your House's Room of Requirement, Read the Rules and Regulations and sign up in the Registry when you feel ready! (or ask your Captain for some training). May the best duelists win!
First years through Fourth years, please use the portkey at right to travel over to the subforum.
Fifth years and up who have passed their Apparating Exam, may sleep in and apparate over at their leisure. Staff, Heads of House, and mods are eligible for all rewards except House Points and are welcome to participate to keep their skills honed and to present the students a dignified example of prowess (or get their ....s whupped)!

So, Announcements!In a few hours, this month's Fan Fiction Story Contest will close for entries. There are some great stories-and prizes at stake! Anyone who sends Accio Funds a trade with the entry fee of 100g before midnight, PST, can add their story, original or found.
Entries bring you an automatic 5 points, with more if you win!
