I've been looking up wand properties for hours, and have become curious.

What would make up your wand, and why?

From what I've found so far, my wand is:

11 inches
Willow with a a unicorn hair and amethyst core.

I say this because Willow is a bendable wood (able to compromise,) has healing properties, and is overall a feminine wood.
My core is a mixture of unicorn hair (for purity as well as healing properties) and amethyst (for wisdom, and levelheadedness.)

After further research I will probably change my mind (maybe my wand wood should be birch, since I'm flaky,) but I think it will be fun to research, and to see what everyone comes up with for their own wands!

Ooh, I like the idea of using gemstones in our wands. I think I'll steal that from you, if you don't mind.

Mine is fourteen and a quarter inches, hawthorn, with a core of malachite and gorgon scales.

Hawthorn is a changeable wood, associate with transformation and female sexuality. It gives a sense of inevitability, which makes people regard it as a rather destructive wood, but really it's about clearing the way to ascend to a better level in life. Malachite is a protective stone, especially for travelers and politicians, and is a stone of balance. Gorgons in myth have been associated with feminine violence and wildness, which is checked by the balancing properties of malachite. This wand is good for transfiguration, Dark arts, and protective spells. :]

Ahh, you made me spend half an hour googling all these things. Good job, you educated me!

My wand is Hazel with a Veela hair core, 13 inches.

Hazel is said to be a good wood for those who are creative and quick-minded. They are good for beauty magic, according to most of the sites I visited, including a few non-Harry Potter related ones. Art is my passion, so I thought it was fitting. I also have a good track record concerning remembering information, which is why I'm such a history nut. Artists and teachers favor this wood... or rather, it favors them. wink

Veela hair, likewise, is good for magic involving love or beauty, or love spells and beauty magic, transfiguations and charms. It can also be a tad tempermental, which fit me perfectly. I woulnd't have much of a problem with it being that way, because I, to quote my aunt and her friends, have the patience of a saint.

My wand is Hazel with a Chimaera Scale and Lapis lazuli core, 11 inch's.

Hazel is best for wisdom, beauty, charm, love, stars, navigation, and creativity. It is also fitting best to my birth month of August. Chimaera scale is very rare but powerful. For a bold personality that stands firm. The Lapis Lazuli is for the 3rd eye. It is used to gain wisdom and to make a connection between the physical and celestial. It enhances awareness, attunement, intuition, and psychic ability. It is also a protection stone.

Lovely thread, I am quite excited about it...

Okay I believe mine would be 12 and one quarter inch ceder, with a core of Phoenix ashes and a horse hair core.

I picked ceder wood because it is a strong durable wood...yet its soft to the touch. It gives the wand an almost tranquil side, but at times it can be quite devastating. Phoenix ashes to fuel a very powerful hope for the future and the willingness to grow and learn from our mistakes. Lastly Horse hair, for beauty, gracefulness, and love.

I really think a wand should in some ways reflect the person, it belongs to.

So I found this quiz for what your wand should be. It's cute, but I think it's way more fun to make up your own. It was interesting to see how mine compared to the one I created for myself.

You scored 52 wisdom, 22 bravery, 26 emotional, and 11 martyrdom!

Oak signifies wisdom, endurance, protection, and authority. Your unicorn's tail hair core means that you are pure of heart and care deeply for your loved ones.

Take the wand test!

Thank you for the link to the wand test!!!

I scored "26 wisdom, 22 bravery, 31 emotional, and 33 martyrdom!

A willow wand signifies that you care deeply about emotions, art, and intuition, and that you have a particular knack for charms. Your unicorn's tail hair core means that you are pure of heart and care deeply for your loved ones. "

Mine's a ten-inch willow with veela hair core...36 wisdom, 27 bravery, 42 emotional, and 5 martyrdom.

I guess it's kind of similar to what I said before.

On the wand quiz, I got...

12", Holly, Dragon
You scored 47 wisdom, 27 bravery, 15 emotional, and 22 martyrdom
Holly is a powerful protective wood that good for use against evil, but it also represents dreams and fertility. Your dragon's heartstring core makes your wand very effective in hexes.

I also found another quiz, and got 9 in, Hazel and dragon heartstring.

the link for that is...

Very nice test, Padfoot's Pet! Thanks for your link as well, Mia! We have a thread for "Cool Harry Potter Quizzes" (look under Quizzes in the Index sticky)
Would you two both add these quizzes to that thread, here:
http://www.gaiaonline.com/guilds/viewtopic.php?page=1&t=10612545#129364210?

While I liked the questions on the OkCupid test (Padfoot's link), they do require that you join up (free) but annoying if you are at the end of the test. I suggest you join first, and take the test while logged in. And though I liked the explanation of the results, I completely disagreed with what they choose for me, however flattering their answers: (I'm 97% more wise than the average?!?).

The length the quiz chose was uncannily perfect: the average length of a chopstick, which is quite comfortable in my hand, and I always carry a pair with me. They've been useful to extend my reach, and once, when I was an intern, renting space on a ground level wholistic center near the Del Mar racetrack one summer, and all alone at the center, a VERY large alligator lizard, maybe about a foot and half long (50-60cm for you metric folk) sauntered in the open door and into the reception area.
Neonate alligator lizard:

I thought he was quite beautiful, but I figured the staff and patients would freak out. Since frightened alligator lizards can painfully bite with a great deal of pressure (hence their name), and are said to hold on like little bulldogs, I communed with him a while, then used the chopsticks to herd him, hissing angrily, back out the door. You'd think I'd score higher in bravery....

OKCupid said: You scored 68 wisdom, 11 bravery, 21 emotional, and 11 martyrdom!
Your Score: 10 1/4", Yew, Veela
A yew wand signifies a wizard of great wisdom and intellect and is very useful in transfigurations. The veela hair as a wand core means that you are slightly unpredictable but very powerful.

My test tracked 4 variables How you compared to other people your age and gender:

You scored higher than 97% on wisdom

You scored higher than 1% on bravery

You scored higher than 39% on emotional

You scored higher than 8% on martyrdom

My chosen wand is rowan (I have the prototype rosewood from Alivan's),
long favored by the fae with a core of fairy dust and dioptase, a bluegreen rarer than emerald gemstone with incredible healing properties. You have to see a piece of dioptase in person to appreciate how magical it is, it's hard to get a good photograph of the color.

I took the OkCupid quiz and this is what I got:

12", Holly, Dragon

You scored 36 wisdom, 44 bravery, 15 emotional, and 16 martyrdom!

Holly is a powerful protective wood that good for use against evil, but it also represents dreams and fertility. Your dragon's heartstring core makes your wand very effective in hexes.

I'm not sure I agree with the bravery thing.

And then I took the other one and got:

9in, Hazel and Dragon Heartstring

Above all your courage shows through. You are a kind and caring person, though sometimes your self-assurance can lead you to make brash decisions. Your wand is perfect for Transfiguration.

Both the results are pretty similar. Still not sure I agree with them though. I'm not entirely sure what wand I'd give myself. I'll have to think on it.

I took a different quiz and it says that I should have:

9 inch, Hazel, Dragon Heartstring

I'm going to try some different quizes and compare them to then. I want to post all the results here if I can. And maybe some of the quizes if I think they are decent. 3nodding

9 inches, infusion of Holly and Rosewood shaft, for protection and achieving my goals, with a Redheart wood handle for comfort and flexibly. With a Chimaera Scale for power and good all around spell casting.
