The rumble was distant, at first, and more akin to a shifting of mountains. For several minutes, silence fell over the camp again. Then another rumble came, this one more robust and defined than the last. The sound of a migration of boulders, as if they rolled off the very peaks of the Scar.
Speculation began to circulate. Perhaps it was Radon shifting, or calling together an army. Frayed nerves watched their two exits warily.
Then a shock of purple lightning lit the sky, forked across it like a crack in broken pottery. Another rumble chased it, lined with teeth. Then both the rugose sky and the violet crystals each glowed overbright, bathing the area in light, as the lightning crawled across and out and toward the edges of the domain, if there were edges to be had. And while there wasn't any rain to be had, the crackfizzle of the crystals sounded similar when buried beneath the sounds of making camp.
As the lightning reached across the Rift, its thunder grew more distant. Soon it fell again to a gentle rumble.

Captian Lavendulan - canteen"If you're in need of volunteers, I'd like to help." There was no hesitation in her offer. The only reason she had come over to the canteen was because once the tents were all set up, there would be officers looking for food and it gave her a good reason to keep her hands and mind busy. Without this task, her thoughts would end up wandering to topics she’d really rather not think about right now. Lavendulan picked up one of the cans and peeled back the lid before dumping the contents in one of the pots; a motion she repeated several more times until it was about two-thirds full. However, she paused in her preparation when a loud rumbling sound echoed through the campsite. She had heard of the wild storms, even seen one far off in the distance the first time Wolframite had brought her into the Rift. But that did not mean she was at all prepared to be standing beneath it when the purple lightening snaked its way across the sky above them. While she had managed to hold onto the startled yelp, there was no hiding the way her claws punctured the side of the can she had been holding onto. Embarrassed by her reaction, Laven set the empty can aside with a quiet apology then picked up the bag of seasoning while Faustite waited for Kamacite to join him.

Captain Bloodstone “I don’t understand why you are so set on him not making it,” Bloodstone frowned as he collected some supplies from the canteen area, figuring they would just have to make a fire to cook things at some point.
He’d known Carnallite for years and while she was not the most pleasant person to be around (neither was he), she didn’t usually care what Bloodstone got himself into. In fact, one might say she was more interested in his life than even he was sometimes. All the times she tried getting him to meet people in college, only for it to always fail. Maybe she was just so bitter that all of her efforts had been wasted that she was now taking it out on Roselite.
“Leave him alone. He does good work. He’s observant and makes himself useful,” he said, because he knew neither he nor Carnallite were going to bother offering to help the others around them. They were all adults (mostly), and they should be able to read the instructions on how to build a tent. Watching them all try to make a fire was going to be another issue to deal with. They would probably be better off eating things that didn’t need to be heated. __________________ Lieutenant Reidite “Just leave them in, then,” he grumbled, looking down at his own shoulder and not wanting to touch them if Cymophane thought they would cause more damage. “I’ll just go to a hospital later. Do you really want me to trust the people falling asleep at the meeting before this all started?” Reidite wondered, lifting his arm to try and flex, but his arm was too sore.
“It’s fine, I just need one arm,” he grunted stubbornly, even as he tried delicately tugging at one of the quills. And regretting it, because it sent a shooting pain down his whole arm. “I just need some damned pliers so these barbs don’t go farther in. Or maybe I’ll just hunt down that youma and dust it. That should make these go away.”
He doubted he would be able to find the same youma that gouged him, unfortunately.

Corrupt Eternal Kamacite Kamacite made a mental note to himself that he needed to just remain standing at this point, because getting up and down was exhausting, and his arm hurt, and he had no idea what Faustite was planning, and the rumbling in the distance didn’t need to remind him why he hated the Rift, but instead it was like a nagging presence that would always come back.
Carefully, he pushed himself back up to his feet when Cymophane called to him. He was sure his friend could split his time between Reidite and himself, and really… Kamacite just needed someone to hold the bandage still long enough for him to wrap it haphazardly around his arm.
While the ominous thunder and purple lightning and distant rumbling didn’t make him jump, hearing his name called did. He clasped a hand over his chest as he turned to see General Lopezite approach, and while his shoulders lost some of the tension, his heart was still beating a mile a minute.
“Oh… I’m not busy,” he said as he brushed some of the hacked off hair that had escaped his ponytail out of his face, and he was very much ignoring how his cheeks decided to heat at the idea of someone asking to pick his brain about… the Rift… which was a terrible subject, but it was actually kind of nice that someone other than Cymophane and Faustite and Roselite thought he was worth talking to for more than an introduction, not that he didn’t greatly appreciate Cymophane and Faustite and Roselite’s friendships because he would have been utterly lost and alone without them, as he had been for the past two years until he met Misha, and then Jonah, and now Faustite was back, which was nice, but he seemed to be a bit more volatile than usual or maybe he was always that volatile and Kamacite didn’t notice, but he did notice Lopezite’s striking golden eyes and wavy black hair and how he’d been nice enough not to harass him about his injury both in front of their peers or alone and--
Out of the corner of his eye he could see General Faustite beckoning him over.
“Oh…” he mumbled, deflating just a little, but he knew they were still in the middle of a mission and needed to get things done. “I’m really sorry. I’ll… I need to get my arm. But thank you,” he said politely, nodding his head to Lopezite, feeling like he needed to apologize for needing to hurry up and get his arm looked at.
He spared another quick glance at Faustite, hoping he understood that he would be right over, and shuffled over to where Cymophane was inspecting Reidite’s arm, and then glanced over at General Lopezite and deflated some more.
“I’m sorry,” he apologized to Cymophane, knowing he was just trying to help him. “Faustite needs me. If you wouldn’t mind just… wrapping it. It should be fine. Thank you. I think the bleeding has stopped,” he explained, since it had all dried to the robe that was now stuck to his arm.

Corrupt Cymophane“Don’t be such a grumbly baby,” Cymophane told Reidite.
Then, without further ado, he grasped one of the quills as close to the base as he could, and yanked it out in one go.
That would teach Reidite not to ignore the need for proper medical attention. Not that Cymophane wanted him getting help from someone who tried to sleep during a meeting, but there had to be someone else around who knew more than basic first aid, right? Hadn’t Kamacite said there was a surgeon in the Negaverse? Some evil doctor guy who tried to take Kamacite’s starseed when he thought Kamacite was easy pickings as a civilian.
Speaking of Kamacite…
Despite the ominous rumbling and subsequent lightning, Cymophane’s smile brightened when his friend finally made his way over. Ignoring Reidite’s raised voice and sputtering Russian curses with little more than a pat to his shoulder (The good one, not the injured one; Cymophane wasn’t that cruel.), Cymophane waved back to the General who initially caught Kamacite's attention (Lopezite).
But it was another General Kamacite felt beholden to.
“Can’t Faustite wait for you to get proper treatment?” he asked, letting the teeniest, tiniest shred of annoyance leak through. “You’re going to get an infection if you don’t get this taken care of properly, and then Faustite’ll be s**t out of luck the next time he needs you for something. Might serve him right, though, honestly.”
Since he doubted Kamacite could be convinced to tell Faustite to find someone else to need, Cymophane examined the wound as best he could through the fabric of Kamacite’s robes. Then, with a heavy sigh, he wrapped it as requested.
“When you’re done with whatever Faustite wants, let me peel that robe off your shoulder and clean it, okay? You can’t just leave it like that.”
He shouldn’t leave it like that now, but would he listen if Cymophane tried to keep him longer?
Probably not. In Kamacite’s defense, the mission was a priority, but… ugh.

Lieutenant Carnallite“He’s not suited for this and you know it,” Carnallite countered, though her voice lacked heat.
They’d had this same conversation enough times over the last several months that her arguments were beginning to lose energy. She didn’t truly care anymore, she simply had to take the opportunity when it presented itself to remind Bloodstone that she thought Roselite was a terrible idea, since he never seemed to listen before.
He wouldn’t listen now, either. Really, she was just wasting her breath at this point.
Carnallite sighed and snagged a bunch of food that didn’t need to be cooked. A fire seemed unlikely in this place, what with the lack of kindling. There was Faustite, but there were also other matters for him to attend to that had nothing to do with making sure the peons had a warm meal.
The dismal fare hardly fazed Carnallite. She ate worse back in college.
“What’ve you thought of our colleagues?” she asked to change the subject. “It’s almost a shame we didn’t get more action. I’d’ve liked to assess their abilities more thoroughly.”
No doubt there’d be time for that soon enough.

General FaustiteFaustite shook his head. "Appreciate the offer, but better that everyone gets fed." She took up the responsibility and he'd rather she stick to it; he didn't know if any of the lot knew how to cook well, but she must have some idea if she busied herself over here. Faustite certainly didn't. Taenite probably didn't. Never heard anything about Kamacite cooking either.
Besides, that flinch at the lightning? This one needed time to settle her nerves.
Kamacite hadn't come; Cymophane snagged him. Faustite was going alone, then.
"Talk more after the mission." Assuming both would make it and both would have time. Faustite gave her a nod as he started for Jet and Aquamarine's tent, where he hoped to find the pair. Their space might have been large, but the number of four-person tents narrowed the area into navigable walkways that were lantern-lined and well-tended. Leaving the canteen, and leaving Lavendulan to the cooking, he peered from one tent to the next in search of the pair.
Aqua, in particular, looked disheveled and irritable. "Got an important matter for you two," he mentioned on approach. "Part of my team's missing. Need to go look for them. Can you spearhead camp defense?" As he asked, he shifted his weight to one side, leveraged a hand on his hip. Looked from one to the other. Both tired, probably half as hungry as he was.

Corrupt Eternal Kamacite “I’ll be okay,” Kamacite promised Cymophane, but he kept his head down as he held out his arm for Cymophane to quickly wrap it, or at least as best he could with his robes in the way. It was better this way, anyway. With the extra padding he wouldn’t have to worry as much about getting injured again. And he could still move his fingers, so the wound couldn’t have been that bad.
At least it didn’t seem as painful as the quills that were stuck in Reidite’s shoulder. Kamacite cringed a little at the sight of the spines poking out of the Russian man’s shoulder, and quickly looked away before he felt too grossed out.
“You can use my tent if you want. I don’t know how long I’ll be,” he said quietly, guiltily, because he knew Cymophane cared about him, but he had a job to do. He agreed to take on this mission with Faustite. He’d fought the youma before, and he needed to find a resolution.
“I’ll be careful,” he promised, and then stepped forward so he could reach out to wrap his good arm around Cymophane’s shoulders to hug him. He rested his chin on his friend’s shoulder for a few moments, before finally pulling away.
All that was left was to help Faustite with whatever it was he needed.
And Kamacite had a fairly good idea what it was. Part of the team got separated, he’d said. They were going to need to find them before it was too late.
He spared a sympathetic glance towards General Lopezite, before ducking his head down and making his way--
Oh, Faustite had already moved.
Self-consciously, he lifted his hand and sleeve to hide what he could of his bandaged arm. It was a quickly done job, per his request, but it kept extra dirt out, and he hoped it would be enough. He could hear part of what he was saying to Aquamarine and Jet, and waited patiently close by, his head down.

General JetJet took the water back from Aquamarine when he was done with it, and sipped at it as he looked around for anyone who might need help with setting up their tents. At least until he saw Faustite making his way over.
“I have Arles walking the perimeter,” Jet said easily enough, but he frowned at the thought of one of the General leading the mission going off on a search for their missing group. “Are you sure you can find them?” he asked, not wanting to sound skeptical, but the Rift was huge. And always changing. There was no telling what would happen.
The rumbling of thunder and purple lightning that streaked through the sky might have startled a number of those in their party, but Jet had seen it before. It was actually a pretty easy way to spot the difference between those who had been in the Rift long enough to experience the crystalline storms and those who had not.
“How long do you think you’ll need? Who’s going with you? If you’re not back by morning, Earth time, I’m calling off the mission,” he said, his voice calm but there was a seriousness in his expression that meant the decision wasn’t up for debate. There were too many Lieutenants and Senshi with them. If they really lost a good number of people already, Jet wasn’t going to be the one to lose more.

General AquamarineAquamarine watched Faustite approach, watched him shift his weight, watched Kamacite shuffle close after him. He let Jet talk first because Jet was better at it, but he couldn’t keep his own mouth shut when he had the chance to open it.
“You going on your own, or is he lurking about because he’s going with you?” he asked, too tired for his usual hostility. The conversational tone he took might sound odd coming from him, but Aquamarine couldn’t be bothered to care at the moment.
“You sure it’s even a good idea? He’s injured,” Aquamarine nodded toward Kamacite, “And those agents knew what they signed up for.”
He didn’t mention that an intended rescue mission could turn into a recovery mission very quickly, if it wasn’t one already, but his tone didn’t exactly hide the thought either. Admirable as the intention was — and the part of Aquamarine that would do anything for Jet could empathize, if he let himself — he couldn’t help but think of all the ways it could go horribly wrong.
“The last thing we need is for you to go missing along with them.”

Corrupt MiyamotoFor a moment he did consider informating the other that teaching him to use these poles, to put together that tent, would be a bad idea. He would in all likelihood get annoyed and try and smack someone with a pole. It was not a good idea, for anyones health, to try and teach him something so utterly useless and annoying. "Maybe they should but it might not be the best of ideas either." Not all officers were equal in terms of what they could and could not do - why they were recruited. Some were certainly not physically capable and were better off doing desk work. Others were more willing to kill senshi and knights and get their hands dirty. A bootcamp might not be a good idea.
"I don't know, I'm not exactly a fan of being somewhere that I'm unwanted by the locals. I'm used to being looked at, as a civilian, but I don't think the poor eighty year old lady who stares at me might also kill me. Here the youma would happily kill me for my starseed. better than climbing cliffs yes...bu t not my prefered location either way." This place was not his idea of a good place to be...but it was nessacery and he'd do what he needed to. He would prove himself to the best of his ability...without sacrificing himself and who he was.
"Ok, so those are the frame...then what?" Finally paying attention to the other who was helping him, or really just doing the work for him. He'd been a bit caught up in his feelings, as tended to happen at times, and had let the otehr start working on tent building without him.
As things rumbled, and lightining flashing and crackled across the sky, Miyamoto's dark eyes turned up towards the sky. "Something is coming...or it's already here." Either way he didn't much like it. It was threatening in a not so silent sort of way....Guine I don't mind and I doubt Miyamoto does either. He might have just thrown a pole at some point otherwise. ^__^ He will not build a tent...but he miight build a snowman. ::Snickers:: I do hope he isn't too intense but he is a rather strong perrsonality I think.

General Benitoite"There is a need for all kinds of people, it's needed in this war. Not every one is good at desk work but it needs to get done, and people with other skills are needed as well. We need doctors, and others who know medicine, we also need people who can set up new identities for people. There is also, without a doubt, a need for those with survivile skills and those who can fight and kill." As it was needed - this was a war.
Reaching out to place a gloved hand on the others shoulder. "Outside of events liek this you don't need to call me sir. I'd say you shouldn't here as well but others might think differently. Personally, I'm not one for titles." Shrugging his shoulders a bit.
"Thank you for the help, and if you need help with anything let me know. Part of my job is to help and guide." And he took it seriously. He would give confidence where it was needed by others. He would assure others of their posistion and the need for them as well. He did what was needed for his fellow officers to do their best - to become their best selves. "Have you set up a tent for yourself yet?"
Rubling came first followed by a crack of lightening that forked across the sky. There didn't need to be rain, did it ever even rain down here? It didn't matter though as he was certain rain was not meant to follow this up. This seemed like some sort of a threat to the gathered group. As the area was lit up he moved as close to the Lieutenants side as he could. "Perhaps you best stay at my side and we find a few others to keep close to us." For safety reasons, because he didn't even feel completely safe right now. He knew the sort of youma they were after and he was sure it was capable of a lot - it was dangerous.

Corrupt Super Valeria"Checks are always important." Especially when dealing with medicine and health care of any kind. Checks to make sure one person diudn't make a simple mistake, because people were just that - people. People were prone to mistakes and even more so when tired or stressed. It could be easy for either of them to make some sort of a mistake, it was best they watch over each others work. "I'll talk to my father and my siblings." And their partners, for those who had partners. "I'll try and introduce you to as many people as I can. It would be good for you to have some connections, even if they are in other departments, it will look good." She was sure of that, especially since her family all worked in the same hospital but in various areas of the hospital. It was known that everyone in the hospital who worked there with her last name was related. No one minded, it was amusing really. When she went to visit she was often teased, with people asking when she would move from a retail pharmacy to the hospital and intern there - that was coming soon.
"They can help you study and answer any questions you have as well." To make sure he did well and had any help he might need, it was a lot to take in and learn. She knew, from hearing her siblings, how stressing it was. She knew from ehr own experience, which was similar, that it wasn't easy and it was a lot to take in.
"Yes, I agree. We can't stress, peoples lives may depend on us being well rested and able to keep calm. If nothing else my magic causes confusion so it couild be useful if we find ourselves under attack." Though she did hope that didn't happen. As she was thinking about it something seemed to rumble...and lightening. "A storm? Do we get weather, like this, down here?" She didn't think it was possible. They didn't have the some conditions as being outside...so how was this possible?
"I think we should be careful...but we need some sleep. I don't think we'll need to sleep in shifts...as you said - if anything happens we'll be the first to know. Others will stay awake and if something happens we'll know from them." They both needed some sleep.
"When this is over and we're out of here and above I'll take your contact information. Perhaps lunch with some of my family, a few lunches, would be a good idea." She might later, after some time, suggest dinner. She could only hope he didn't have a girlfriend who might get the wrong idea. She was just setting out to help him with networking and getting all the help he may need or want, and then some, she was helping a fellow officer with their career and setting up a life for themself outside of this war, plus it would be useful in this war as well. Oh well, if he had a girlfriend who got upset she'd offer to speak with them and set things stright, she didn't want the General in trouble nor herself.
"Think we can get to sleep with an apparent storm of some sort starting up?" Looking around, looking for a place to sleep.SSBrosB Future ideas for you and me to play out.

[Super Sailor Nembus]No one had ever -- Nembus' mind came to a screeching halt as she attempted to copy the motions that Thorite was doing, all while trying to figure out what exactly Thorite was doing. Why was he doing extra motions? What did they mean? What were their purposes? Were-- oh! Recognition lit up on her face once she drew her hand back to herself. A secret handshake. She had never had a secret handshake. She would have to see if she could memorize it for the next time someone attempted a secret handshake. Nembus took note that Ransomite was apparently adopted -- well, maybe he sympathized with the concept of not knowing his parents, then, although it probably wasn't the same because he probably still had parents, unlike her, who definitely had no parents to speak of -- "Well, hope this is a good reminder, then," Nembus paused, before adding, quietly, "or that this is a better adoption than yours?" She had no idea. Thorite seemed hesitant, and Ransomite seemed willing to just let Thorite and Albite have the tent. She couldn't help the thought that considering the way Thorite and Albite had greeted each other, perhaps that was for the best; of course, though, they were dealing with Albite, and he would take absolutely no kind of no for an answer, already giving a whole list of reasons why the four of them definitely needed to stick together. One, best to fill the tent entirely, two, Albite had already made the tent, three, they were all youma food -- "Oh, thanks!" -- oh good, she had made the right choice! Nembus beamed a bit with pride. Her research had been correct. Beans were a great camping food. With the beans and the leftovers, they'd be set! Her attention was pulled away from her brief excitement by the sound of a thunder crack. The purple lightning that stretched across the sky afterward made Nembus think of herself and also made her hair stand on end. She was grateful when it rolled away from them, rubbing her arms protectively and hoping to ease her goosebumps. "Ah, maybe we should just," she looked out to where Albite had set up the apparent tent the four of them would be apparently sharing, "I think I like the idea of just sharing stories and eating food, maybe." The lightning was a good reminder that they were still in the Rift, and maybe it was best they were not standing targets.
