Sebastian couldn’t help his smile when the teen seemed overjoyed that he was able to communicate back in sign. It certainly wasn’t a skill he got to use often and rarely when he did, was it met with such enthusiasm. Usually the situation was far more… somber. He chuckled at the joke though, eyebrow quirking at the thought. "I don’t know, now might be the best time to do it," he joked as he signed back, though his expression was clear that he was rather grateful that it wasn’t going to spin into another contest. At least not so soon.
The long-haired man tilted his head some as Trey confirmed he was actually looking to make poffins as well, a little surprised at the admission. "Really?" he spoke, glancing down at the case before resuming signing, realizing his brief lapse in proper communication. "You can take a look if you like, I’ve actually got a lot of berries. A lot." he signed, kneeling and opening the case to show. He pulled out the three liechi berries the young man from before provided him, showing them to Trey.
"Someone even gave me these, though I’m not quite sure what for." Sebastian signed with a shrug. He had one other of that berry, but hadn’t bothered figuring out what they were best for.

Trey almost laughed, but he managed to keep it a silent, more gesture of a laugh, his body moving with a slight scoff that wasn't made audible. "Nah, you'd own us. My pokemon can't perform combos yet. I just got them recently," he admitted, glancing down at Cherish, who was sitting and watching curiously at the two, his little chest puffed out with his neck craned way back to look up at them. It was surprising Trevor was being so modest, but... he respected the other guy for the performance he'd seen, and honestly, it was the truth. Besides, admitting how recently he had got them made the progress they'd covered all the more impressive.
He nodded at the verbal response, essentially giving away he wasn't deaf (unless Sebastian had been facing him to allow possible lip reading). He looked curiously over at teh berries, before perking up with interest as he produced the liechi ones. He paused, then reached back to grab something, before tucking it under his arm, and gesturing. "What kind of poffins were you looking for? I have a recipe that could use some of these that could make a really good Cute Poffin, with some of the ones I've got. It's got some secondary characteristics," he signed quickly, already eager and excited at the prospect.
Notes to self: "Elvrick Hirsh" is JR's 'Trainer' persona

Sebastian grinned and just rubbed behind his ear at the praise. It was certainly a mood booster given the whole scenario earlier, especially from a stranger, but he didn’t want to come off as pompous for it. Still he appreciated the recognition all the same. "Oh really? You’re a new trainer then?" And already onto contests? Well now that was extra impressive! He took a gander at the pokemon at Trey’s side and smiled a bit. He didn’t… recognize it at all. Maybe it was native to one of the other regions? Though which, he could only guess.
Sebastian noticed the interest at the berries he’d shown, watching the teen pull something out and tuck it under his arm before signing his response. He hadn’t thought much on that… he wanted to put together beauty poffins but… he also wasn’t sure what Blackjack or Kaiser (if he ever actually got interested) would do contest wise either. "I’m looking to make anything honestly. I mean, I need to make beauty but stocking up on other poffins would be a good idea." He smiled, returning the berries to the case and closing it up for now. He took a gander around and noticed a free station, stepping back and pointing to it before signing. "We can go ahead and set up at that one. I’d be more than happy to help with that cute poffin recipe of yours."

Trey nodded. "Relatively, yeah," he signed back. Cherish perked up as he was looked at, giving a yip, and then standing to walk over to Sebastian. As if the eye contact (?) had been permission for interaction, he pushed himself up onto his hind legs and pressed his forepaws to the man's leg, waving his tail with interest as he looked up at him. Trevor frowned down at the pokemon. "Sorry," he signed, though honestly, he was more upset that Cherish seemed friendly with other people. He'd.... thought he was a bit more restrained than that. And selective.
He looked back at Sebastian, adjusting Shade in his arms, and nodding, pulling out his notebook, but looking back up to catch everything he was signing. He almost wished the guy was talking, so that he could multitask, but this was fine too. It was good practice. Trying to juggle his pokemon, and his notebook, Trey moved over to the available station. "I'm gonna look around," JR spoke up. Trey gave a wave at him, more in a dismissive gesture than farewell, and didn't look up. The older man rolled his eyes, but turned to leave, a glowering Wesley at his heels. The wigglytuff was giving the other two trainers one hell of a stink eye, before he turned, and jogged to fall into step with his trainer.
Trevor stopped at the station, and set Shade down, who immediately moved over to take residence up next to Cherish. Trevor tore a piece of paper out of his notebook, and started writing it out, before pausing to sign, "Have you made a lot of poffins in the past?"
Notes to self: "Elvrick Hirsh" is JR's 'Trainer' persona

Naomi was pleased enough that Dallas agreed, never mind the fact that he had such high hopes for his failure; if the teen was being honest with himself, he expected the same results. But, he wouldn't be dissuaded by the very real possibility of a loss, he just wanted to try! So, as it was, he nodded at Dallas' time and location and waved him off as he left, then turned to the few pokemon he had currently out. All three looked up at him curiously, and even Rotom was giving a less-than-hostile glance in his direction. "Ten minutes is enough time for a bit of research," he insisted, before retrieving his communicator and pulling up the Contest HQ's official website. He wanted to know how moves transferred over in contests, and which category they would best suit.
The task took him approximately five minutes to accomplish, and by the time Naomi finished he felt himself a bit more prepared. He gathered his team together, aiming to arrive to the courtyard early, but stopped when he remembered the poffin still in his hand. "Jingū," he turned to the Bounsweet. "Would you be so kind as to perform the role of my taste tester?" She didn't need to be asked twice! And with a chirp she skipped over to Naomi and ate the poffin in one bite, soft sounds of approval leaving her mouth as she crunched happily on the treat; her table etiquette needed a bit of work, but Naomi was happy to know that his cooking was edible.
Naomi held the door open for his team as he left the hotel room, though he was careful to check that he had his room key with him beforehand, and together they left the building and headed out to the courtyard. It was when they were right at the door, however, when they were stopped by a sales associate who'd just finished setting up shop for meager accessories. Naomi, knowing well that he was running out of time, felt it was only polite to at least appraise the items on sale. He wasn't going to buy anything! At least, that was what he originally believed. But, when he spotted a small black cape, fluttering on the edge of the table every time someone passed it, he changed his mind. In his defense, it wasn't even that expensive of an item, and it was made of great material! His little shopping side quest set him back a few minutes, but with a little hustle Naomi managed to make it to the courtyard on time; which was all that really mattered.
He was taken aback by the small crowd that had gathered out front, and slowed down when he noticed the judge's table, but it was his opponent who made the Ransei native stop dead in his tracks. "Austin?" Surprise light his face before delight did, but the latter was there, and in full view. "I did not know you had arrived on the island! It is nice to see you again," he spoke. "..Did Dallas not wish to watch us?" He didn't seem to be apart of the crowd, so maybe he really had followed through with Naomi's suggestion and booked it when he could. That was a bit disappointing, albeit expected, but it wasn't enough of a concern to worry himself about. Not when he had a contest to focus on. Before continuing on, Naomi released the rest of his pokemon, hoping that the presence of his entire team would give him the confidence he needed.
At Austin's suggestion of doing a cool contest, Naomi immediately turned to Jingū. She caught his eye, and his meaning behind the look, and all but ran over to him, nearly tripping over herself in her excitement. Naomi smiled, then removed the cape he'd bought, smoothed out its wrinkles, and tied it around her as best he could; considering she didn't actually have shoulders. She looked like a super hero! And... that gave him an idea, he dropped down to whisper it to Jingū. She gasped, eyes wide, before nodding her... entire body, eagerly. With a bright smile Naomi recalled Jingū and stepped onto their stage of gravel and grass. "Empress Jingū, come forth and save the world! Use Razor Leaf!" Naomi tossed the ball up and released his little super heroine a few feet off the ground. Her cape began to flutter behind her, catching the air as gravity took hold and she began to fall, at the same time leaves erupted from behind her. They snaked out sharply underneath her cape at the same time her feet touched the ground, forcing her cape to stay alight in the air, before coming around her and then sharply into the air. There they lost control, and the previously sharp leaves became soft as they gently drifted back to the ground, and around Jingū. She puffed out her chest, striking a pose as her leafy confetti fell all around her. A new heroine had arrived to save the world from the clutches of evil, and her name was Empress Jingū!
An energetic applause took over the crowd, and both Naomi and Jingū beamed proudly. Wow! This... just wow! That had been amazing! Jingū had really impressed him, she'd been able to recreate his vision perfectly! Even better than he had pictured it! The judge's seemed to agree, at least on Jingū's performance, and with a simple extension of the head judge's hand announced Naomi and Jingū the winner of the appeal round. Naomi clapped along with the crowd, but rather quickly remembered that they still had to keep going. He took a moment to think of their next attack. "Rapid Spin." Jingu gave a chirp before spinning rapidly, much like a mini spinning top, before jumping into the air, where her dizzying motion came to a standstill to reveal the Bounsweet, cape fluttering heroically. She dropped back down, and another round of applause started up the second she stuck the landing.

- Sebastian was a little surprised when Cherish appeared, pausing a moment to look over the little fox creature looked up at him. D’aww how adorable. Sebastian thought, glancing at Rummy who was looking expectantly at the stranger pokemon, apparently inquisitive of his own. Blackjack kept his distance and Kaiser… he’d disappeared which was probably something he should’ve been concerned about but knowing the sheep… he was off chewing something he shouldn’t.
"Don’t worry about it!" He responded both in words and a quick sign, giving Cherish a little pat on the head as he retrieved his things. Sebastian gave JR a curious look, raising a hand and giving a wave goodbye as he disappeared with a rather pissed looking Wigglytuff at his heels. Wow that thing looked mad. Bluff peeked out from his bag, watching the stranger of her evolution line disappear with a sort of inquisitive look. How strange.
Setting his things down and making sure the pokemon that were with him were alright (which was mostly snatching Rummy and keeping him from climbing other tables to nibble the fuds over there), Sebastian blinked and quirked an eyebrow at Trey’s inquiry. Still holding tight to the Leafeon he shook his head.
"No." Which was semi-honest. He’d made poffins once with Jay but that involved a machine and not any actual cooking, which seemed to be what they were doing around here. Once he’d wrestled Rummy down he returned his focus to Trey and properly communicating.
"Sorry, but no. I haven’t, I made them once with someone else using a machi- RUMMY NO." Sebastian dropped the signing and was right back to talking as he snatched the Leafeon off the table as he tried to tip things. Oh gosh, he was going to be a problem, wasn’t he?
"I’m sorry-" The man absently apologized vocally, tucking the pokemon under his arm before realizing something, "Ah, your name?" He roughly signed and spoke, still wrestling with Rummy. It’d completely slipped his mind that well… he hadn’t properly introduced himself.

✪Walking Pokemon ⇨ Riptide, the Aklor and Susan, the Gardevoir
Austin watched in amusement as Naomi planned out his next move. The feeling of wondering what his opponent's next move was filled Austin's heart with determination. I wonder what they'll do... His query was quickly answered as the little Empress Jingū showed off her heroic prowess. The crowd really seemed to enjoy it, and so did Austin. "Well, well! If she's the hero, then I suppose my Riptide is the villian!" Riptide couldn't tell that a villain was a bad thing, but he sure knew that it felt intimidating and wanted to bring it. Hm! Dazzling moves, hero! But you've yet to face Riptide the Shipwrecker!" With a point, Austin gave the order for Riptide to Bite. Riptide jumped up before sinking his teeth into the pile of leaves close to Empress Jingū in a starling fashion. The crowd didn't find it as a cool move, but it didn't quite do enough to lose the crowd's attention. "Here's a quick lesson, Shimizu-san: Just because a move doesn't appeal to the crowd, doesn't mean it isn't useful."
After startling Empress Jingū, Riptide had a little time to make a quick move. "Now, let's show them a villain's speed with Aqua Jet! The angry shark growled before he propelled himself in a quick circle around Empress Jingū, gaining the appeal of the crowd. Riptide fast! Beta doesn't stand a chance, Dal-um, Fancy Man! Austin brushed off the misstep, and kept his eyes on Naomi.
Naomi winced with Jingū as she hopped back and away from Riptide's gnashing jaws, entangling herself in her own cape in her hasty retreat and falling onto her back; the very opposite of 'cool', and it showed in the audience's collective faces. "Ah..." At a loss for words, he instead silently encouraged Jingū back to her feet, though in the process they lost valuable performing time. Both could only watch as Riptide circled Jingū on a mini wave of water, and left the Bounsweet a bit dizzy trying to follow. "Overcome it, Jingu!" Naomi encouraged, but at the same time he found himself grappling for which move to call out next. Ah, when and doubt, go back to what had worked before. "Use Razor Leaf!"
Jingu puffed out her cheeks, none too pleased with being tripped up (even if that was her own fault) and then shown up, called forth another flurry of leaves. Rather than wrap around her, this time the leaves acted as a barricade as she rushed ahead, intent on breaking through Riptide's circle and clear a path for her. The leafage came down hard and fast, cutting Riptide off, before collapsing harmlessly in front of the shark. It was quick, but it was enough time for Jingu to slid her way back into the crowd's, and the judge's, heart. With a few extra leaves to spare, she stuck them to her chest to form a crude E and J; her emblem.

✪Walking Pokemon ⇨ Riptide, the Aklor and Susan, the Gardevoir
Susan was very talkative as the contest continued on; she hadn't hadn't been in the right mind when she was rescued by Dallas, but now that the Gardevoir had a clearer mind. she could really be jazzed about the battle. RIPTIIIIIIDE! GO GO GO! SUSAN BELIEVES IN RIPTIDE! She was cheering so loudly mentally that Riptide himself shot a nasty glare at her, making her tense up. "Focus, Riptide, we have a little hero to defeat!"
And it was good that Austin had said so. Jingū had fired off tons of razor-sharp leaves, which came dangerously close to the shark Poke'mon. It was a very dazzling move, and was well accepted by the judge and the crowd. "Well done! You've really paid attention to Mr. Tucker's teaching!" He gave Naomi a genuine smile to add to the praise, but he didn't intend on going easy on his apprentice. I have to let him see how good I can be, he thought. "Alright, Riptide, it's time to show them our style! Thunder Fang!"
Riptide gave a small nod before rushing for the large pile of leaves Jingū had left behind. His teeth crackled as he clamped down on the pile. Riptide held the pile in his mouth until his electric teeth caught the foliage aflame, and then he thrashed and scattered the embers to the wind. The heat made his cape/flag billow, adding to his cool menacing style. And the audience went wild in fanfare and applause. WHOOOOA! Riptide is cool! Austin gave Susan a pat on the head, which eased her to calm down. "That he is, Susan, that he is."
As focused as he was on the contest, Naomi still became distracted by Susan's cheering; he wasn't sure if it was because she was using telepathy, or because she was just naturally that loud, but it was certainly... well, it was something. He breathed out slowly and focused on his pokemon on the sidelines, who were all offering their own various cheers and hollers of encouragement. It was needed, especially after Austin had Riptide burn Jingū's leaves, earning a thundering applause and cheer from the crowd, effectively drowning out Naomi's pokemon; who knew such a small gathering of people could be this loud? He was appreciative of Austin's praise, honestly he was, but it was hard to smile as brightly as he usually did when he was actively trying to think of what to do next. Still though, Naomi did manage a small, appreciative, smile and directed it towards Austin. He was a good teacher.
"Empress Jingū." Naomi spoke, using her full name to gain her attention. He closed his mouth, and swallowed, before tapping his foot. Jingū, recovering from another pout, began to copy her trainer, and after a false-starts began tapping her foot in sync. It... wasn't what Naomi had expected, or even been trying to do, but he rolled with it. "We cannot give up now. You must endure and fight on. You must--" Naomi stopped, his eyes widening. "In these dark times, you must become this world's beacon of light!" Please, please, please let her see through his words, and follow-up with the command hidden within.
"Boun!" Jingū closed her eyes tightly before hunkering down, and in her odd crouch her entire body a soft light began to glow from within her. It grew quickly, and harsher, before overtaking her entire body. There was a moment when the light became blinding, and forced even Naomi to shield his eyes, before dimming abruptly. When Naomi felt he was no longer in danger of having his retinas burned he looked back to the stage, where Jingū proudly held a ball of concentrated light just above her stem. Her cheeks were expanded from the effort of containing it all, but with a sharp cry she sent the ball skyward, where it exploded brilliantly, sending stray beams of light across the ground. Naomi perked up.

✪Walking Pokemon ⇨ Riptide, the Aklor and Susan, the Gardevoir
Austin had to give it up to Naomi: He hadn't expected that from a newcomer. But when Empress Jingū fired an amazing Solar Beam into the sky, he had to rub his eyes from staring too long at it. Amazing! It looks like they still have some fight in them! But the coordinator wasn't going to give up just yet! "Riptide, you wouldn't dare let a little Bounsweet defeat you, correct?" The little shark's eyes went wide before slowly shrinking into an angry, seething squint. "Knock her down a peg or two, my little shipwrecker." Riptide darted forward much like he would have in the water, and began circling her with Aqua jet once more. However, this time, he would get awfully close to her before veering away at the last second, showing off his great control and speed. "It looks as if my Aklor is on the hunt, and Empress Jingu is the prey!" It was a tad colorful, but Austin was really having fun. He could only hope Naomi was feeling the same.

Trey nodded, eying Rummy a bit, before focusing entirely on the poffin business that was going on. He glanced over at the gesture, then listened to the explanation, eying Rummy a bit. He set Shade down for the time being while he pulled his bag around to withdraw his own berries, raising an eyebrow at the wiggly leafeon. The furball stayed by his heel, but Cherish curiously moved a bit closer to Sebastian and Rummy, before sitting down a short ways away, gekkering a bit of nonsense at the pokemon, as if to just test his reaction, and get his interest.
Trevor blinked and stared blankly a moment at Sebastian's realization, realizing the same, before shifting a bit in embarrassment. His mom would be disappointed if she was here.... though she probably wouldn't have noticed till Sebastian pointed it out, too. "Trey. Sorry. You?" he signed back, before starting to scribble something down on the piece of paper he'd pulled out. He held it out to Sebastian, berries from each of them, their characteristics, and some calculations written out. "Does that look good?" he asked, before explaining, just in case, "It will have the primary characteristic maxed out, which would be cute, but it'll still give some Cool and a little Tough characteristics."

Eventually Rummy seemed to realize that if he kept it up he would be done, and simmered down in his antics. Instead he shifted focus to the odd little fox thing that seemed to be trying to get some attention and grinned, chirping excitedly and wiggling his way from Sebastian’s grip to face plop into the ground, snapping up with a smile and sniffing at the odd little creature. Oh boy a friend! How had he missed this odd little creature thing? Was it doing contests too? It looked kind of scruffy, but that was okay! Maybe it was tough? Millions of questions to be asked and only so much time.
Sebastian watched a moment and once he was certain Rummy might not cause any further trouble, shifted his attention back to Trey. He smiled as names were finally exchanged. "Nice to meet you Trey. My name’s Sebastian," he signed back, pausing a moment as he thought. Was it alright to ask to what extent Trey needed signing? He was a bit curious but some people could be ‘touchy’ about that kind of subject… and others not so much. Deciding not to risk it (for now) he instead turned his attention to pulling out berries before a paper was offered up to him from the teen. He took it with pure curiosity etched on his features, looking it over in well… surprise. Wow, what was this math? There was math in making poffins? For real? Like… weird.
"Wow" he murmured, rubbing his chin thoughtfully before offering the paper back to Trey, giving a grin, "sure! That works just fine! Though… a maxed characteristic? Can you… explain that a little better?" He inquired, setting his own berries to the side and starting up the cooking utensils; obviously they’d need to prep and cook to make the poffins and well… he could at least turn things on to start. Last thing he wanted was one of the event coordinators harassing them to not hog the table if they weren’t going to cook. "So which of your pokemon are for cute, then? The little fox thing?"

Cherish waved his tail with some interest as he looked at Rummy, but when the pokemon dropped down suddenly, despite the comedic result, Cherish immediately rolled back, tucking his head in and wrapping his tail up in a backwards summersault to "hide". He popped his head out after a moment, flicking his ears, his tail twitching as he peered over it at Rummy, and then straightened up. He sat proper, tail resuming its interested wave, but only stood when Rummy approached, sniffing in response, and making another small, low sound. Shade was watching the two neutrally, closely observing Rummy's posture, each step he made, each shift in weight, as if looking for something.
Trey nodded and gestured a quick, return, "Nice to meet you too," after the introduction, but it was pretty clear where his focus was now. He pulled out the berries he'd need, and honestly, he almost missed Sebastian's signed question. if he hadn't cast a short glance in his direction at the verbal reaction, he would have definitely missed it. He looked up better to grab the paper, looking past it to read Sebastian's signing. He paused, then remarked, "You can talk, by the way. I can hear," while giving Sebastian an uncertain look. He didn't want to be rude, but... damn, it would make this a lot easier if he could multitask with that, and not have to keep looking at the guy. He almost turned away, but realized he needed to still be facing him some to sign clearly, mentally regretting, just a bit, this mute thing. Worth it in the end, though. "It's.... It's the best a poffin can do, basically. Think of it as nutrients. A poffin can only hold so many nutrients, and the body can only process so much from food, and make so much of a change. Nutrient x helps cute, y tough, z cool, etc. Most of the nutrients in this poffin will be x, and it's the most that the body could actually make use of. There will be some of z, and a little y, too, though. Does that make sense?" he explained. It wasn't exactly accurate, or even specific, but hopefully it would get the idea across.
Turning slightly, but not so much to obstruct his hands, he added, "Berries are given certain values for their nutritional value, using the earlier example, and you can make general calculations based on that to determine the best combination, to make the most out of a poffin." With that, he immediately dropped his hand down, and got to work on making the poffins useable, while, he assumed, Sebastian got to work getting the rest of the ingredients and mix together. "It's a G-E-K-K-I-T, and his name is Cherish, but yeah, he's for cute. What about you?" he signed quickly. He'd ask if it was the leafeon, or if he was for beauty since Sebastian mentioned that, but honestly, he wanted to keep his hands occupied with cooking.

Rummy didn’t seem to perturb as the Gekkit rolled away from his unceremonious flop to the ground, watching in wonder instead at the little trick that the pokemon pulled off in the process. He was still grinning as he say there, tail swishing every which way as Cherish took a moment to… observe him? Try to figure him out? Determine whether this interaction was a good and/or safe idea? "HI! My name’s Rummy, what’s your name? That was a neat trick! What’s with the cone thing, did you get an operation? Are you okay? What are you I’ve never seen you before!" Barrage of questions aside, he eyed the Gekkit curiously, catching slight glances of the odd furball off near Trey watching them apparently. Ooo so fluffy looking!
"Oh! Ah, okay then, sorry," Sebastian spoke, apologizing. Huh, alright then…. He gave a sort of curious look after Trey said it was alright for him to speak, but decided not to go much further on that. Instead he set about cutting up his berries and adding them to the bowl for mixing, realizing he had no real idea what he was doing and pulling out his book from before concerning contests and such. There were general recipes for making poffins right? He could count on that, and probably Trey as he seemed to know so much. Sebastian did halt in his work to stare blankly as the teen explained.
Yup that went right over his head. How did you have nutritional values that lined up with… attributes like that? Boy, the world could certainly be weird at times. "Oh… okay. Sure, I guess that makes sense," even though (for him) it didn’t. But he wasn’t in the business of questioning such things. Instead he added the last of the ingredients for the poffins into the bowl (according to the book anyways) and mixed it together, chopping up his own berries and tossing them in before offering the mixture over to Trey to finish.
"A Gekkit?" He’d never heard of that before… how odd. He gave a smile. "That’s a cute name, he looks like he’s suited for it!" Sebastian took a glance at the pokemon to make sure no one had gone and done anything they shouldn’t. Blackjack seemed to be keeping an eye out so all was well for now. "I don’t have anyone for a cute contest yet, I’m just getting back into the swing of things. Rummy does beauty but… that’s about it." Once again, where was Kaiser? Sebastian dug about and found poffin tins setting them on the table and greasing them a little. "Alright, tins are ready! When that mix is done, we just have to pop them into the oven!"
