The weapon lurched and fired, the shot grazing something, she was certain. It was hard to tell, really, but she hoped she hit something. It made her happy to think that she had.

Don't think. Don't feel. Just keep attacking. It was pretty much a momentum now. Swing, strike, maybe get attacked. Rinse and repeat. The shadow bit him and Jake stabbed it angrily. "WHY. WON'T. YOU. JUST. DIE." He was really angry.

And she readied the weapon and her nerves for another shot. Aiming was the hardest part, and dealing with the weapon as it fired. They were strong, these ballistas. At least Leev thought so.
But she liked the impact they made with the shadows, when they actually hit. It was rather satisfying. Leev smiled to herself and prepared to fire off a few more shots.

Were they even making a dent in these things? It was hard to tell because literally everything was covered in shadows. Still, the moment they gave up, it was all over. Camelot would fall. They could not, would not, MUST not let that happen. The moment Camelot fell, all would be lost, and not even the great knights or king would be able to do anything about it.
So Jake pressed on, swinging and slashing away at their ever-growing enemy.

Shun kept an eye on where the other knight-apprentices were. He didn't speak with any of them for now, but he was being mindful of where everyone else was. It would not do anyone any good if they accidentally struck one another because they were not paying attention. The shadows' mass was thick over all, making it easy to find targets. One still could not be too careful, however.
Spying movement out of the corner of his eye, he quickly lashed out at it in turn, hoping to cut it down before it could advance any further.

Her next shot was off as quick as it could be. Leev was very pleased to see that it stayed on target, too.
She paused then, flexing her hands. These weapons were huge, compared to what she normal dealt with. And they were heavy. Between that and her nerves, well. A quick stretch to make sure she didn't tense up too much was probably in order. Especially with a machine with this much of a backlash.
Leev took the moment to survey things. Assess them. She was vaguely surprised to find out that she was no longer afraid.

A sigh of relief when he watched more monsters fall over. He was starting to get used to fighting the shadowlings, and although his heart was still beating fast he was beginning to tune out that sensation.
Another deep breath as he readied another arrow and aimed his bow at another set of monsters. He fired a volley.

Kenta found himself near a ballista... so he attempted to use it. Sadly for the apprentice, he had not been paying attention when instructions had been given out nor had he helped set them up at all, instead heading out to gather supplies and questing. So he loaded the ballista a bit too much and launched it with devastating effect! To him and the enemies near by! He was thrown back by the huge backlash, hitting the parapet of the wall.
He staggered back up and decided that ballistas were not for him.. that hurt too much to use! Fun but painful.

There a shadowling lunged at her with talon-like part, she turned her head and forced the edge into the connection joint of it. Even they were shadows, she observed that they were of different shapes. Throwing the fear and anxiety again, she could deliver some damage. More space would be better for greater damage but the nimble girl had a flexible body that allowed her twist and turn for the best effect.

But the shadows were too thick about him and Kenta was left with no choice but to reload the dreaded huge crossbow and try his luck again. This time he did not fill it up completely; instead he under-loaded it and the results were not as spectacular. Only one shadow was hit.. He sighed as he rubbed his shoulder; knowing there'd be a bruise there tomorrow from that last backlash. He debated; to try and reload it once more? Or charge in with his halberd?
