Name: May Day Gender: Male Type: Earth Hair: Edited paper hair, streaked orange, blue, and yellow (THANK YOU, JUN!) Eyes: Pink Body: Edited shredded-paper fetlocks over pink hooves on a medium purple flank Personality: May Day is a little bit paranoid. You see, people keep approaching him with broomsticks, baseball bats, mop handles -- and all he's doing is just standing there! Sure, they pretend they're just walking by after he looks over at them, but he's never seen that happen to any OTHER phony. And why does everyone laugh when he tells them his favorite thing to eat is single-serve, individually wrapped candy? Can't a guy like Smarties and funsize Butterfingers? C'mon! May Day (named for both a particular fiesta day in May and for the call of distress) prefers to stay away from children who are having their birthdays, fiestas of all kinds, and blindfolds. No blindfolds. Family: Double Dare counts as a kinda-sorta brother Romance: Only failed attempts with a side of awful dates Cutie Mark: That CAN'T be what he thinks it is, right? Winning Entry: Edited CYO Entry!

See the Stars
It was getting late. Prime Meridian sat flat-butted out on the hilltop, watching the sun slowly set in the distance. He yawned and put his head down atop the blanket he had brought with him. Sunsets were nice, but what he really wanted was the dark. This hill, far enough away from Phonyland's insane light pollution, was his very favorite. You could see so many stars, so many constellations! Sure, going on hikes with Dad was nice, as was visiting Mom's planetarium and using her amazing telescope, but... this was even nicer, in a way.
It was like spending time with both of them, in a weird way.
Time passed. The light faded, and the stars came out. Prime Meridian looked up. He wasn't worried about navigating back in the dark. He'd never had an issue with that before, and his family didn't tend to worry about it, either. He searched the skies for his favorite constellations, stars, and planets.
There was Venus! So bright tonight.
"Oof! Clocksworth! What did you do? I told you we're lost!" A mare's voice cut into the darkness.
"I'm not lost! And why did you take so long to get going? I told you the sun was about to set..." A stallion's voice, annoyed, replied. Prime Meridian sat up. He squinted, the moonlight catching on his gem eyes. He could see two figures stumbling over each other, trying to make their way down the hill. What on earth were they doing?!
"Uhm, hello?" Prime called. The two looked up, and he could see the mare start as she saw his bright eyes in the dark.
"OMIGOSH!" the mare screeched, shrilly. "WHO'S THERE?"
"Honeybunches, it's a colt," Clocksworth replied with a snort. "Yes, little guy? We're trying to find our way out, too."
"Oh -- no, that's not it," laughed Prime. He tossed his mane. "I can help you get back to Phonyland, if you need. I come out here all the time to look at constellations. If you're lost, that is."
The stallion paused, looking from his companion -- Prime Meridian couldn't help but notice there was a fairly big looks disparity between them -- and weighed his options. He didn't want to lose face to this little colt. Instead, he cleared his throat.
"Look at constellations, you say?" said the stallion. "Well, we were out here to do that, too. You could, uh, point a few out to us, and then we can all head back to Phonyland together. We don't, uh, want a little guy like YOU to get lost."
Prime Meridian suppressed a laugh. He waved the two over to his blanket. "Sure, that's fine," he said.
"Ooo! That WOULD be nice," said Honeybunches. "You're so easy to see in the dark, your eyes are really great for that." She made her way over to him, stumbling over an unseen stone.
"You can hold onto my mane if you need," said Prime, tossing his mane. "I'm a brush n' grow, so..."
Clocksworth -- a plain, normative Earth -- cut into his speech. "SO, constellations?"
"Yes," said Prime, looking up. "Now, you see the moon? If you look to the right of it, you'll see a cluster of stars in kinda a triangle shape...."
----
Prime Meridian led them home an hour or so later. Honeybunches held onto his mane gently, while Clocksworth loudly proclaimed he knew the paths like the back of his hand and needed no assistance, even when he almost staggered right into a ditch. It was funny, a little exasperating, and ultimately, for Meridian, a lot of fun.
When he let himself back into his own home, eventually, the colt began to think.
Phonies were always doing that kind of silly thing, weren't they? They needed someone with a really great sense of direction -- infallible, like himself or his father -- to help them around. And to be patient with them. And to make sure they had a good time and saw something beautiful, to boot.
It'd be a nice line of work, he thought. He looked up at the sky through his bedroom window.
A very nice line of work...
