Rage
User Image

Kadryn was angry. It was a cold burning anger. One that made her want to scream and kill. But she didn't want to hurt just anyone; she wanted to kill the Kiandri dragon that had hurt her body and her pride.

Her last hunt had been painful for her; not only had she fainted from the lightning breath of the Kiandri, her mace had attracted every one of its bolts, causing her hands to become badly burned. Worse, the dragon had left her alive, even though it could have easily killed her when she'd finally succumbed to the pain. That had been the most painful blow. That the dragon had thought her so weak, that she wasn't worth the effort to kill her. When she'd finally come too, it was too late to catch a ferry back, so she had to sleep over in the desert cold while she waited for the next ferry to arrive. In pain and unable to wield her weapon because of her burns, it had been an uncomfortable night.

When the ferry had arrived, Kadryn had walked on without her usual chipper attitude. The man who worked on the boat knew her since she rode often. And they knew that this was something she would have to overcome herself. So they treated her burns and left her to contemplate and seethe with anger.
How dare the dragon let her live! While she was glad she wasn't dead, the insult was painful. It hadn't thought her a worthy opponent; it probably had seen her as no more than a nuisance! A toy to entertain itself for a while!
When the boat had reached Serenia and the docks came into view, Kadryn saw her parents were waiting at the dock. She knew they were worried because she hadn't come home last night. But did she want to see them right now? Kadryn knew she was in a foul mood that she might snap and might go berserk any moment. Her anger was still simmering inside her, the embers ready to flare up at any moment. And she didn't want to snap and hurt her family, but they deserved to know that she was alive and fine.
The ferry captain stumped over to her,

"Go and fly off kid. Leave your stuff here, we'll see your parents get it." Kadryn was shocked, was her thought that easy to see on her face?
"Yes they are. But I too am a barbarian. I may not be able to hunt anymore, but I know what it's like. That and all of us who have fought dragons before have gone through what you are going through right now lass." He smiled kindly, "It hurts when a dragon doesn't think of you as more than a chew toy, something to play with but not kill. Especially when you are trying your best to kill it and can't. You'll probably feel angry for a while, then it will recede. Probably after you've killed a few dragons. Though the anger will always be there lass. You're a barbarian, like I was. You're usually all smiles until battle. But if someone insults you in battle by not even putting in any effort when you're trying your hardest? That makes you angry. And anger makes you strong. But it's also a poison lass. Don't let it burn inside too long or it'll turn you into someone you don't want to be. Go fly off the worse of your rage right now. Go throw things out in the wild, scream off your anger, and maybe beat up some trees. Though gently cause you don't want to hurt your hands more. Then when you've calmed down and feel a little better, go home. You'll see that your family will help you get over some of that anger." Kadryn thought for a while.
"I.. I think I'll do that, sir. My parents are over there," she pointed at Naiser and Laasya as the ferry came up along a pier. "Can you give my mace to them? It.. it hurts too much to carry it right now. I'll go and rage in the wild. Thank you for your words, sir." Kadryn managed a ghost of a smile ans she unfurled her wings and took off.

As she flew off she didn't look down, so she didn't see her father spot her and almost follow. The captain of the ship called out to them, telling them that she was fine, but had some steam she needed to blow off. Laasya was very worried; why had Kadryn left her mace and stuff behind? It was winter, there were dragons! But Naiser understood. After all, he and Tarlon had grown up together; he knew what Kadryn was going through, what every barbarian feels at some point in their life. So he calmed Laasya down, told her that they needed to just be patient and wait, Kadryn would be fine, but she would need time to think and heal.

Training Plans
User Image

Kadryn was perched in a chair as her mother pulled off the bandages on her hands and examined Kadryn's healing burn scars. "Well, I think they have healed enough for you to use them.."

Kadryn gave her mother a rim smile, "Can I use them to go hunting again? Cause my anger's just building up Ma, I feel like it's gonna burst and I'll go berserk any moment..."

"There will no need for that Kadryn." A deep voice came from behind. As Laasya turned around and Kadryn looked up, Kral Rialrgon stalked into the room.

"You will be training with me. I have a dovaa friend in town this week. His clan is Kiandri, and he will be helping me to train you. There will be no time for hunting until I say so. Nor will you be sparring anyone other than me. You're to angry to be trusted to stay sane while battling right now."

"But Kral, her hands have just barely healed! Do not cripple them in an attempt to make her stronger!"

"Oh, don't worry about that Laasya," Kral tossed a pair of think leather cloves with pads on the inside grip. "These will protect her hands from getting burned while we train. They are think enough that they can withstand heat. That and Nailo has just put a new grip on her mace so that she has more insulation should it get too heated.
Kadryn picked up the gloves, it might be awkward using them ,but anything that would help her take on a Kiandri and lessen the anger was worth it.

"I'll do it, what do you need me to do Kral?" Kral smiled at Kadryn, "Well, first off is learning to dodge. You need to dodge a Kiandri's lightning instead of taking it full on. The same will be true for all Dragons. Don't take a blow if you have too. You may be tough, but too many blows will hurt you no matter how strong you are. After that, my friend will be using his magic to toughen you up against lighting while you fight him and then me. I can promise you that you will return too tired to blow up Kadryn. Also ,try to take your anger out on us, it might make you feel better. Letting it sit and burn inside is not healthy, now grab you stuff and lets go." He nodded to Laasya as Kadryn slipped out of the room, "Don't worry, this will help her. You might not like it, but Kadryn needs to fight, it is in her blood and I do not think she will settle down and live a quite life for a while."

"I know, but.. she's still my baby! Even if she is taller now, I can't help but see her as the little scamp she used to be. Do you think she'll become her cheerful self once she defeats a Kiandri?"

"Hopefully, and.. I think it will only take one. If she wasn't a happy person normally, it might take a few, but I think she will feel better after just one."

Kadryn reappeared, "I'm ready Kral."

That afternoon was a painful afternoon for Kadryn. She kept getting shocked and bruised. But releasing her pent up rage at targets that could fight back did make her feel better. Her rage was still there when she was done for the day, but its embers were low and Kadryn didn't feel like she would go berserk. That night she held Fallon in her lap as he attempted to read her a story. His baby voice made a small smile cross her face. When would she be able to feel real happiness with no anger in it? Kadryn did not like being angry all the time, not one bit.

Sleeping Rage
User Image
Dear Diary:

My parents are worried about me. I know they are... so's Fallon, he's trying so hard to cheer me up. Lately I tend to train from sun up to sun down, I don't feel like cooking or playing at all. I don't want my family to eat food that I cook while I'm like this.
I should do something about this .. dark mood I'm in, this anger. I can't seem to regain my cheerfulness. My mind keeps circling back to that damn arrogant Kiadnri. I know I need to get stronger before I challenge a Kiandri again, but killing Ayrala's just doesn't ease my anger at all. It's still there, that anger, still sleeping. An ember that could flare up and burn me at any time.

Dear Diary:

I feel healed. Something about a good fight with what once treated me like a worthless chew toy and the dragon putting in all of it's effort has gotten rid of quite a bit of my anger. I came home and felt so much better. Really tired and in pain, but not angry; there wasn't any of the feeling that I was going to go berserk at any second like I have been feeling these last few weeks.
My Ma's face when she came home and saw me cooking dinner with Fallon in the kitchen makes me wonder just how bad my gloomy behavior was... Was it so bad to handle that Ma cried when I greeted her cheerfully? Oh well, I'll have to go and thank Kral tomorrow. I don't think I would have been able to defeat the Kiandri without his extensive training. I think as long as I don't get treated like that again, I shouldn't feel that type of cold lingering anger... hopefully.

[PRP] An Odd Encounter
User Image
Dear Diary:

Today I met my first Drakein!.. well, I have seen them before but never really talked to them. Grrel is a such hoot! She has so many questions and a sharp mind. Never really thought of Dragons as being as.. intelligent? Engaging? Likable? Hmm, I have a lot to think about...
Also! Apparently she's never had cooked food with spices and stuff before... Her reactions made me smile. I made plans to meet her in a weeks time to cook food for her... I think I will bring some pastries and bread with me since I can't bake them out in the forest.

Drakein not Dragon
User Image
Kadryn was awake early this morning. Last night she had gone to sleep thinking about Grrel and Drakeins. She couldn't help but wonder if her Da knew what a Drakein was, had he ever encountered one on his hunts? As she lay restless in her bed, she decided that she had better things to do then wait until her parents were awake before asking them questions. So she threw back her covers and got out of bed. Shivering slightly in the chilled early morning air, Kadryn walked over to grab her new clothes. She smiled as she looked at them. Kadryn hadn't had new clothes in a while, this was the first time that she'd grown enough that she needed new clothes! A grin crossed her face as she looked down at her self; she was tall! Finally she wasn't being towered over any more!.. well, at least not towered over by everyone, at least the new apprentices at the small rustic school were smaller than her..... Kadryn stretched her lean muscled body out after she finished dressing. Stretching her muscles out always made her feel better, it got out the kinks from sleeping and woke her up when she was sleepy.

Softly padding out of her room, she snuck to the kitchen. Since she couldn't sleep, she would make breakfast! Smiling to herself, Kadryn grabbed the needed ingredients and began to cook. Soon, her sleepy mother came out and smiled as she saw her not-so-small daughter making breakfast. After those weeks of a surly and angry Kadryn, it was a welcome relief to see her humming happily as she cooked. Laasya smiled as she asked, "And what is my little girl doing up so early?"

Kadryn turned around and grinned cheekily, "Couldn't sleep cause of question! So I thought to make breakfast for everyone."

"It certainly is nice to not have to cook this morning, but what type of questions?"

"Hmm, it's about Grrel. And I'll wait for Da to come out and then I'll tell you about her. Breakfast is almost ready, you want to go wake the boys up Ma?"

"Can do honey-bun." Laasya smiled as she turned around and went to wake up Fallon and Naiser. Kadryn was growing up so fast, it really shocked her every time she looked and didn't see her baby girl but a warrior standing there. Grrel? That's a strange name....

As Kadryn laid breakfast out on the table, Naiser asked,
"So what and who is this Grrel? Since you couldn't sleep because of questions, I'll assume Grrel isn't an Orderite."

"Well, she isn't. She calls herself a Drakein."

"Drakon Drakon!" Fallon perked up and tried to say dragon in his burbling baby voice.

"No, not dragon, silly! Drakein. She's much smaller than a dragon, about the size of those large horses we see with the Caravans. And she's really intelligent, can use magic and talk and everything. Have you ever seen something like that dad? She said she was a Kiandri Drakein, and that her people come in the same breeds as Dragons. Just more variation in color and such."

Naiser thought as he started eating, "Hmmm, well. I've seen small dragons, but none that small. No talking dragons either.. Perhaps they are rare?"

"Nah," Kadryn shook her head, "From what Grrel said, there's quite a bit of them. She said they live in small nomadic clans and mostly avoid people so maybe that's why we've never seen any before... . Hmm, actually, I think I've seen one before, on Ayr when I met Killian, but other wise Grrel's the first one for me. "

"A talking small dragon.. That sounds.. familiar." Laasya cocked her head to the side as she thought. "I think I heard a traveler at the Wind Cafe mention something like that. Something that deals with the Kawyn ruins and when they were once occupied..." Laasya shook her head, "I can't remember much, I only heard the tail end of the conversation. But I'd certainly like to meet Grrel! She sounds fascinating! We can go have a picnic and go meet her...Oh! Is she the reason you've been sneaking extra food?"

"err.. Yeah. Grrel's never tasted real cooking before and she loved what I cooked when we first met so I try and bring her something everytime I go and visit.." Kadryn reddened slightly, so her mother had noticed her sneaking the extra food! "If you want, I can bring her here, she's real curious about us and our lives.."

"Oh that would be so much fun!" Laasya beamed with pleasure, a Drakein! She'd always wanted to see a dragon but didn't want to get eaten. Now she could see something like them with no danger at all!

[PRP] Hunting Together
User Image
Dear Diary:

How did Grrel survive on Eowyn up till now? Her fighting skills are abysmal.. I wondered if that'show I fought when I was an Apprentice? Oh well, I will have to give her some hints and maybe spar with her.. though not with my mace, that thing is too dangerous for sparring.....
At least we killed that Ysali that was attacking children. Though Grrel did mention he looked malnourished. Guess he was too young to hunt properly in the winter and decided to go after easier targets...

Aftermath: +2.5 EXP +1 Ysali orb, no luk gain since she is so far above Ysali's...

Dream Shopping
User Image
Kadryn was headed over to the small village by Lake Amafel for their Winter Market. It was a day when the village hosted a rather large fair and had many merchants come visit. Kadryn had heard of a strange seller of Dreams. Curious about this rumor, she headed off to see if it was true.. and what type of Dreams were sold. As she was flying in the cold winter air she thought about what these sold dreams could be. Did he steal them from people as they slept? Or merely harvested his own? How could you sell a dream anyways? Was it a physical thing, or magic that made a dream come true? How would you know it was real? So many possibilities!
As she arrived on the banks of Amafel, she noticed how much warmer it was here. This far south there was no snow, just a nippy breeze. Before her lay a small rustic fair, nothing compared to the huge Winter Festival a few weeks back, but still something exciting. Kadryn spent the rest of the afternoon wandering the fair searching for the Dream seller and having no luck. As dusk was falling she spotted something; it wasn't a dream, it was a well made shield. What had caught her eye was the odd design on it. Her father's smithy made many shields, but none like this. It was much more fancy, and yet it projected a feeling of security and safety, like it had withstood many battles already. Kadryn waited for the customer at the stall to finish his business before skipping up to the seller and inquiring about the shield.

"That there, lil lady, is a shield of the ancients. Made back when our Goddess still walked this land. In fine condition for something so old too! Pity it an't be of any use to ya...."

"No use? What do you mean?" Kadryn looked at the old merchant curiously. Did he not feel the strength and sturdiness of the shield? She could tell that it was still strong without even picking it up!

"Well, it's too old, it's gotten brittle over the years and is only good for decorations now. I tested it a bit, but it doesn't have the stregnth of our more modern shields. I'd give it to ya cheap, but it is a valuable piece of our history, we don't have many items that have lasted that long."

"Hmm, so useless but you'll still charge me for a hand and a leg for it?" Kadryn smirked, this was going to be an easy buy. What followed was a brief spat of friendly haggling. Kadryn wanted the artifact, but wasn't about to pay too much for something this man obviously didn't know the true value of. And she knew how to haggle; her mother had taken her on many shopping trips and had taught her how.

As Kadryn handed over some coins earned from helping out at Wind Cafe, she grinned and thanked the old man. Settling the shield onto the strap of her bag, she felt a sense of security and strength settle over her. The merchant may have'tested' it, but he mustn't have tried it out in battle. .. Or maybe it had wanted to be used by a warrior and not hung up on a mantle? Was that why she had sensed its power while he hadn't? This bore thinking about.

As she was walking towards a food stall, she saw a quiet glow in an alleyway. Intrigued, she sauntered over to the alley way. She saw a man in odd clothes sitting on a blanket at the end of the alleyway. Was this the dream seller? Kadryn could see small glass globes filed with a pale white smoke sitting on cushions in front of the hooded man. He was wrapped head to toe in a loose cloak. A deep purple color, it was covered in swirling pictures of people and dragons, all embroidered in dark green and blue thread. You could tell nothing about the man's race, it was only by the broad set of his shoulders and flat chest that you could tell it was a man at all. Sitting cross legged, his hands crossed in front of him and head bowed, he looked like he was sleeping. As Kadryn approached, his head came up and she could see these piercing red glowing eyes burning inside the darkness of his hood.

"Welcome Adept. I see the Dreams have called you here." His voice was a deep rumbling hiss. So strange and yet alluring at the same time, it captivated Kadryn.

"Uh, yes, I suppose I did come here looking for them... How did you know I am an Adept?" Kadryn shook off the mesmerizing effect of his voice.

"Hmm? Because the Dream said so." His wrapped hand reached out and picked up a bottle. Holding it out to Kadryn, she saw the white clouds slowly start to swirl and color began to dye it's pale mist. Soon it began to glow a pale gold and pink, the mist still swirling about in it's glass cage.

"Ahh, I see that Family is your Dream. A warm loving home filled with family.. I wonder if this is the past, present, or future? Or could it be all three?" He chuckled to himself as Kadryn slowly picked up the Bottled Dream.

"Wha.. how.." As she looked up to ask a question she saw the man and his wares slowly fade from view.

"I wish you luck in the future.. you will need it to fulfill that Dream."

Girl Talk
User Image

Kadryn was sitting in Wind Cafe's kitchen bouncing Fallon on her knee as her mother cooked orders from customers. Kadryn would have been helping, but Fallon was demanding attention and one of them had to keep him busy otherwise he'd be running around bouncing off walls in his energetic happy way.

"Hey Ma," Kadryn asked, "Why do the other girls act so strange around boys? They're all giggling and acting weak and simpering at them. It's weird." She'd been walking about town more frequently lately and had noticed alot of her female peers walking hand in hand with boys or giggling in groups as they watched the young men at work or training. She couldn't really see a point in that, why would they watch them and sigh over muscles? So weird. Kadryn had noticed that she was just as muscled as the men, so why were the girls all giddy over boys? What use were they other than as sparring partners and for conversation? This whole giggling and sighing over boys was foreign to Kadryn. She'd never really had a crush, nor had she ever paid attention to the opposite gender much.

Lasyaa turned around and stared at Kadryn. Her baby girl was asking about love! Oh joy! Maybe there was hope of her bringing in a boyfriend someday! Well, maybe far in the future, but if she was noticing the girl's reactions then maybe she'd start to notice boys too.....
"Well, girls tend to... um.. notice boys because.. uh... how to say this." Lasyaa was stuck for words, she'd never really thought of how to talk about love with her battle obsessed daughter.

Talia popped in,"Did I just hear Kadryn ask about love?! Well, maybe there's hope for you yet, girly!" She laughed at Kadryn's offended face.

"What do you mean there's hope for me yet? All I wanted to know was why they were acting like that! I.. I know what love is! It's what Ma and Da have!.. You and uncle Tarlon too." Kadryn stuck her tongue out at Talia as she hugged Fallon to herself.
Lasyaa smirked as she turned back to her cooking, "It's more than that, lovey. What you see is a crush, not quite love yet. Love takes time to grow and blossom. The beginnings of a relationship is much much different than what we have. We've been though many years together and those years change your heart; it's still love, but not so ... new? Reckless? Something like that. It starts out so passionate and all consuming, a crush does. You wonder if he notices you, if he likes you; you worry him falling for some other girl. I no longer worry, I know he won't."

"Ha! I never did that! I just charged in and claimed Tarlon! I saw him and wanted him so I took him! Who cares if he fell for someone else, I would just take him back!"

"Yes well, you're strange Talia. Some days I think Kadryn takes after you more than me and you aren't even related!" Lasyaa laughed. "Kadryn, you can't really understand love properly unless you've felt it or a crush at least once."

"I disagree! Seriously Lasyaa, you need to talk to her so she understands and then there will be a better chance for her to get a boyfriend! Here, I'll describe it. It's a feeling of wanting someone, their attention, their smiles, their laughs. Your heart beats faster at the mere mention of them and you always think of them. That's what it feels like to fall and be in love. Those giggling groups of girls? They have crushes, which are similar to love, but weaker. Not as intense. If it was love, they'd be closer to the ones you see holding hands and cuddling!" Talia nodded emphatically at Kadryn from where she was leaning against the door frame.

"Well, that's not all, Talia. Love comes in many forms Kadryn. Sometimes it's like and fluttery like a breeze, but other times it's a whirlwind. The whirlwind is not always the best, you may get too lost and caught up in your feelings. That's never good, often times that leads to abusive relationships and too much jealousy. But it can be good too. I hope you can fall in love one day, Kadryn. Being in love can be one of the happiest experiences you can have. Hopefully you fall for someone before I have a head full of grey hair! But it can''t be rushed." And she sighed, she'd loved to have Kadryn bring a guy home... Nailo might not, since he always glared at any boy who even smiled at their oblivious daughter....

Talia laughed and smirked at Kadryn "I can't wait for you to fall! It's gonna be hilarious to watch! The Stoic Barbarian Girl, blushing and stammering in front of her first crush! Oh man, I'd pay to see it!" She laughed as she sauntered out, "Don't let me scare you away from boys Kadryn! I'm just looking forward to a situation you can't bash your way out of!" She called aback as she left he kitchen.
Lasyaa smothered a laugh at Talia's comments and Kadryn's reaction.

"Not gonna be like that..." Kadryn muttered as she looked down and her baby brother, "Not gonna be blushing and stuttering like those silly girls. Don't need love! Can be happy without it..."

Drakein in a Magescian Village
User Image
[PRP with Grrel, it is also in Grrel's journal.]

Grrel was on her way to Kadryn's village. She'd heard so much from Karyn about the place and was too curious to hold it in anymore. It wasn't difficult to follow the trail Kadryn usually used to come visit her and soon Grrel came into sight of the tiny village on the lake's shore. It looked strange, but then so did much of what the two-leggers made and did. She paused for a moment to smell the breeze and caught a whiff of her favorite snack.

"That must be Kadryn's home! ..Or that "Wind Cafe" thingy she mentioned that her mother cooked at. " Grrel muttered excitedly. "I'll go check it out! She must have mentioned me to her family by now...."

And so Kadryn's village got a surprise visit by a Drakein. Many of the villagers stopped and stared at the golden Drakein as she sauntered into their town, looking around as if this happened all the time. They whispered amongst them selves about her, stunned into inaction by Grrel's brazen action. Was this one of those Drakeins that Aeveh had sent out the proclamation about? Why was it here? Was it dangerous?
Grrel enjoyed their reactions, luxuriated in the attention and stares being heaped upon her. I should have done this earlier, she thought to herself.
Following her nose, she swaggered up to Wind Cafe, and was meet by Kadryn as Kadryn was leaving.

"Woah! Grrel? What are you doing here?" Kadyn was shocked at seeing her Drakein friend in her town. She'd known that Grrel was curious about her home, but not so curious to actually walk right in like she owned the place!

"Well, didn't know you were so hungry for treats that you'd come all the way here!" Kadryn looked at the shocked expressions of her towns people and smirked at them before calling out, "Don't worry! This is Grrel; yes, she is a Drakein, and no she won't attack you unless you provoke her!"
She shook her head and looked back at Grrel, who was sitting innocently in the middle of the street with a smug look upon her scaly face.

"Well, you just became the number one gossip topic! Everyone here is gonna be talking about you tonight! Heck, I don't think they'll be able to do any work the rest of the day cause of you! Come on in. I was gonna bring you something but since you're her you might as well meet my family and have a real cooked meal!" Kadryn opened up both doors to the Cafe to let Grrel in.

"Hey Talia! Go get Uncle Tarlon and Ma, this here's Grrel, the Drakein I told you about. I think she just caused a bunch of chaos in town by blatantly walking through the whole town to get here!" Kadryn called out to her adopted aunt as Grrel ducked her head and held her wings tight against herself to keep from hitting the door frame.

Grrel looked about in interest. This was the first building she'd ever been inside and she was going to make the most of this experience! She'd never thought about what they'd have inside the place and all the furniture confused her, but maybe the two-leggers didn't like eating while sitting on the ground. She turned her purple eyes to face the three people emerging from a doorway. One looked pale blue like Kadryn, just thinner and a whole lot less dangerous while the larger reddish one definitely was dangerous. The tiny one; that must have been Kadryn's baby brother, how adorable.

"Pleased to make your acquaintance, Kadryn has told me a lot about you. Kadryn's family and the customers still looked stunned by the intrusion, and that Grrel could talk and talk in a civilized manner!
Kadryn looked about and smirked at the expressions on people's faces.

"The tall one with red hair is my uncle Tarlon, the smaller blue one is my Ma, the pink one is my aunt and the itty-bitty one is my baby brother Fallon. The rest are customers who should be eating and not staring..." Kadryn looked pointedly around at the seated people who all looked embarrassed and returned to their meals... while still watching the golden orange Drakein out of the corner of their eyes. A murmur of conversation took up, mostly which was about Grrel.

Tarlon grinned as he replied to Kadryn's introduction, "Well! Ah can say that tis a pleasure and surprise tah see yah here, Mizz Grrel. Kady tells me that ye really like mah sweet tarts." He turned to look quizzically at Kadryn, "Why do yah intra-duce us by color?"

"Cause that's the easiest way!" Kadryn scooped Fallon up as he toddled over to the new shiny beast that had come in.
"This here's Grrel, Fallon. What'd ya think?"
"Purtty!! Wanna touch!" He stretched out his hands towards Grrel and burbled happily.

"I do indeed love those Tarlon. But I was hoping for a full meal. I haven't hunted today and I wish to eat what Kadryn has only been able to describe to me." She bent her neck and let Fallon run his hands along her scaled snout in glee. Fallon just placed himself on her good side, compliments and gifts of food were always ways to tell if someone was decent! ... At least in Grrel's mind

"He certainly is adorable, but Keinlings are cuter! Now, about my meal Kadryn." She grinned at Kadryn and her family, exposing her sharp teeth that caused Laasya to worry briefly about her infant son's hands as they, of course, immediately went to poke the sharp objects. Grrel flicked her tongue out and licked Fallon's face. She then straightened up and looked about.

"Where shall I eat that would be comfortable for you to sit and talk while I do so?"

Laasya spoke up for the first time, " There is a table in the kitchen, this will let us talk to you and allow the you to eat with out being stared at." She was nervous, having never seen a Dragon or Drakein before, and Grrel certainly looked dangerous to her but if she was Kadryn's friend then she was probably a decent person....

"True, that and ye can see how we cook, which, Kady tells us, is som'thin' ye enjoy as well?"

"Oh yes! I do so enjoy watching her cook, though she tells me that it's nothing compared to what she can do in a proper kitchen! what exactly will you be making?" Grrel stood up and sauntered over to the double doors leading to the kitchen. She, Laasya, and Tarlon went into the kitchen chatting. Grrel was defiantly destroying the town's view of Dragons and Drakeins as stupid dangerous beasts!
Kadrn watched them go as she held her squirming little brother.

"Well, this is entertaining! You want me to watch the shop for a bit while you join in the conversation, Aunty?"

"What, and miss all the gossip that everyone out here will be saying? Never! Besides, you should take her around the village and show her about, then have her over to dinner and I'll be able to talk to her then!"

Kadryn laughed at her gossipy aunt. You'll have to tell me what they say.

"Big sis! Wanna go be with purty Drakon!"

"Oh all right Fallon! You'll have to tell me what they say later, 'kay Talia? Wonder what they'll make for her?" She nodded bye to Talia as she headed into the kitchen.
This was certainly going to be a very fun afternoon!

People Watching
User Image
Kadryn was sitting on a roof of a building in the Citadel of the Order, overlooking the wide expanse of training grounds and gardens. Today she was here to observe people. She really wanted to know why girls acted the way they did around boys but didn’t think that her home village would have enough people for her to get enough information. And so she’d decided to come to the Citadel of the Order and watch people before going to turn in her orbs.
Her bag lay next to her, containing her lunch and orbs. She held her drawing pad in her hand, alternating drawing and writing notes down about what she saw. So far she still was confused on why girls acted that way.. Why would they need to act so coyly and cutesy? Kadryn had seen one girl almost break a large rock with a punch and then turn around and act adorable for some skinny boy that looked feminine to Kadryn’s eyes…

“Now why would they do that? Is being strong not good? And why do they act so shy and sweet around those weak looking boys? What’s wrong with muscles?”Kadryn muttered to herself as she wrote down more notes. People were so strange. She much preferred to be herself and not pretend to be something she wasn’t.

“Is a boy worth not being yourself? How strange…”
As Kadryn sat and observed the many interactions, several of the observed people were talking amongst themselves about why the strange blue girl was being creepy and staring at people. Finally one of the girls, the tall one Kadryn had seen almost crack a rock, flew up to talk.

“Ahem, is there a reason you are... here and ... um…”

“Watching people? Yes. I’m trying to figure out why you act the way you do…” Kadryn had been wondering if any would approach her, it wasn’t like she was hiding or anything. She turned to the tall girl and smiled.
“I don’t understand this flirting and love business and my village is too small to find enough targets so I decided to come here to observe. And there’s been a lot of odd going-ons. Like why would you act to weak and cutesy to that skinny boy?” She pointed to the one that she’d seen the other girl talking to. He was indeed handsome, in a thin and ethereal way. The tall girl, broader and taller than Kadryn with a long mane of bushy pastel green hair, blushed.

“You saw that?”

“Yep, it’s weird. You’re strong, what’s wrong with that? Don’t you dislike pretending to be something different than what you are? I’m Kadryn by the way.” She offered her hand to shake. Sighing, the taller girl sat down next to Kadryn and shook her hand.

“Smilira. Yeah, I don’t like it... but Tomasith likes sweet girls.. not ones that can break him in two…” A mournful look crossed her face. Kadryn scrunched her face up in confusion.

“Why would you care if he liked sweet ones?”

“C.. Cause I.. I like himHer voice got tiny and a blush brightened her pale skin as she gazed down at the aforementioned boy. Who, at the moment , was stringing his bow up for practice.

“…Umm…Is likeing a big deal? I like people.. but they’re friends and from what you say it is not the same….” Kadryn didn’t know what to say. Here was a person who could perhaps help her understand this foreign business of love…. But what to say? Smilira looked sharply at Kadryn to see if she was mocking her. Kadryn’s open and honest face should only an innocent interest and some confusion.

“Well, guess you’ve never fallen in love before.”

“Nope! That’s why I’m doing this. I don’t understand why…” Kadryn grinned and shrugged. Smilira laughed at her. This stragne country girl certainly was interesting!

“You can’t understand it be watcing silly! Somethigns you have to experience…What do you think of him?” She nodded down at her crush.

"Hmm. Skinny and girly…. Why do girls like the skinny ones?” Kadryn turned her head to look at Smilira, “It seems that way in my village too. Which is odd. Why go for a guy who’s more girly than you are?”Smilira burst out laughing.

“Oh my gosh! You are such a hoot! I never really thought f it that way… Hey, why not come down and meet my friends? We’ve never seen you about here before. Are you new to the city or something?" Smilira stood up and asked her questions with a smile.

“Sure, I’ll go meet them.” Kadryn packed up her bag.
“And I’m from Hot Springs Village. We have a tiny school there for those of us who don’t want to leave home. So I’ve only been to the Citadel once before to deliver orbs.. which I should be doing right now, but this is more fun!”

“Hot Springs? Oh! I know that place! It’s where you turned the healing waters into a big public bath house right? I’ve always wanted to go there but studying takes so much time!”

Kadryn and Smilira flew down chatting about their homes and what sort of things they did with their time. They were both Barbarians, but Smilira was gentler and had never felt the berserk feeling like Kadryn, while Kadryn was more active and willing to go exploring and fighting. But both enjoyed cooking and loved their little siblings, though hers was a sister.
