It's possible to juggle college and NaNo. It's hard, but it's possible.

Well it is also my first year and I have a basic idea of what I’m going to write- not a full outline since it will probably change sooner or later. There is only one thing though - I am the minimum age for this contest and some might say I don't have much writing experience- but they are wrong! I participated in the young authors one last year and won- so this year I get to move up to the real contest. I am very excited and am planning on attending the write ins for my area though they probably won't take me seriously but I’m determined to try my best and perhaps get it published someday! So that's the plan. biggrin

Thomlina - Question: How else are you supposed to get this fancy experience "they" speak of if you don't participate in things like NaNo? That's how I look at it, in any case.

Too true, too true. Writing is experience. Which is why it's such a problem that I might be more addicted to TALKING about writing than actually writing... stare

AurinJade It's possible to juggle college and NaNo. It's hard, but it's possible. This. Very hard. Very possible. If you achieve it, you feel awesome. XD Thomlina: I was 13 the first year I did NaNoWriMo. I went to a NaNo meet locally the next year - and rather than "not take you seriously", I think a lot of older writers are envious of your youth! I know for a fact that my writer friends (mostly ten years older than me) are some of the best friends I have! They take me very seriously, have never questioned my ability, and are a great bunch of people to boot. Writers tend to be more mature than other people (I think because of the added element of intelligent communication that a lot of teenagers miss out on), and so other writers (in my experience) are more likely to take them seriously. So, my advice? Don't worry about experience! Experience comes after years of writing, and look at it this way: if you start writing early, by the time you're the age of the people who won't take you seriously, you'll be better than they ever were at that age. See?

Yes, I am a lot of talk, I'll give you that. XD Which is why I started this guild. So I could talk to other serious/dedicated writers. Yay!
Anyway, Nano's coming up! Less than 10 days! XD

Ha! I totally can't wait for Nano to come up- I'm going to be staying up until midnight, just so that I can get a head start on that word count. whee I'm going to need it, since I have no clue what I'm going to be writing.
Who else is going into this with no idea? Anyone with a fully sketched-out plot? (Advice for those who save things until the last second?)

Ah, I've got my whole plot down. I'm so terrible at just starting from nothing. Really, I'm bad at it. T.T

Be sure to get in a good amount of sleep the day before! Otherwise, you'll crash and burn easily. That's what happened to me last year. I fell asleep at Starbucks. xd Arg. Heh. Sugar: It's okay. It's good to take a break every now and then. I just remember getting tired of people who told others what to do in writing when they weren't writing. Or (my favorite) criticize others or famous authors instead of writing. :/ idk

Sevi! I knew I saw you in the guild somewhere! Sleep is a good thing- but so is copious amounts of coffee. Or maybe not, since you fell asleep at Starbucks…? xD Even then, I'll probably only manage to stay awake until around two. Do they get mad at you for falling asleep in the cafe, out of curiosity?
Sugar: I hate starting at nothing for the most part, but sometimes it's fun to just be random and see where it takes you. Well, so long as you're not expecting too much to come out of it. Maybe plotting would have been the better idea after all. xD

I'm going to try. Very hard. However, I have multiple things I absolutely MUST do. I do have an idea, though, of what my story will be about.
