i wanted to play trumpet after hearing the best trumped player at our school, but when i tried to play that it i couldnt make a noise so i tried the alto sax and i could make a sound out of that so i picked that. i was really mad at first but now i love playing any kind of sax and if u asked me to switch to trumpet i would slap u for even suggesting such a thing scream

mine is a long story be forewarned so my school doesnt do tryouts however they only allowed a certain number of each instruments so it was first come first serve in a way
my brother tried band wanted to play Trumpet he got it and than dropped band after 5th grade because he was the worst and than he joined choir where he is epic (over powering everyone with his booming dark opera voice lol)
Determined to be better than my brother i joined band and after thinking about it went with Trombone so that way there would be a need for me and i would be more likely to get a scholarship for college (what 4th grader thinks that far ahead gosh i was a freak XD)
than after 5th grade and the teacher who neglected trombones and only worked with the flutes, clarinets, sax's, and trumpets. I was not liking band than i did summer band with my middle school teacher and in a short month of Wednesday and Thursday rehearsals pretty much learned how to play my instrument besides tonguing that was the one thing she never caught me not doing i just taught myself that last year in 9th grade anywho my middle school band director taught practically everything i know today and helped me love band she is amazing the only class i ever couldn't wait for in middle school

I actually wanted to play the saxophone because I really love jazz and to play jazz, you totally need one. Clarinets are dead to the jazz world for the most part it seems.
I tried out for flute, sax and clarinet and ended up with, you guessed it, clarinet. Now I'm quite good at it but to this day I wish I could've gotten the saxophone. I could always learn how to play it in my free time.

I wouldn't mind if I played a different instrument. But I just chose the flute cause my mom and aunt played it in Highschool and my mom was first chair all 4 years and still has her flute from then so I figured it would be the easiest thing finacially for me to play. But now I love it so I'm not gonna argue

6th grade: No. Originally, I wanted to play oboe, but my BD said it'd be too hard. So I played flute.
7th: (trombone) Kinda. But then my BD brought up the tuba, and I so totally wanted to play it, and I did. cool
8th: Yes, kinda... I wanted to continue playing tuba, but then my BD asked me if I wanted to play bassoon. I said yeah, but my hands are too small. crying

Bittersweet. I love playing cello and piano but I really wish I was better at the sax... Oh well. I love what I do now so I don't have much room to complain. xD

I really wanted to play saxaphone, which meant starting on clarinet, but my bagpipe instructor said that the fingerings would mess me up too much.

I wanted to play Saxophone but the BD at the time (Who left before the year even started so it wasn't fair at ALL) didn't let me play on the reed because he thought girls should play woodwind and guys brass (so sexist) so I got to play brass. I started on trumpet and to this day I've always been first chair (not bragging mrgreen sweatdrop ) but I still want to play the sax. Gonna rent one over the summer.
