"Dunno, you'd have to ask Mom and Uncle Ari. 'M not an elder. And Amor mated into the family," Aodh shrugged.
Thirty foxes? His family...let's see, Mom, Mother, his two brothers, Uncle Ari and Uncle Kazuki and their seven kids...and six grandkids...that was twenty right there. Plus Amor and Sparkles and he thought his cousin Sigal had a mate too, so twenty-three.
Huh. Actually, his family was pretty huge.
"There's only twenty three in my family," Aodh joked a few minutes later, after he had mentally totaled up all the foxes in his family.

"Oh, only twenty-three," Crys agreed with a laugh, shaking his head goodnaturedly. "You don't got nothing on me at all, you and your tiny family," Crys said sarcastically, snorting.
"I bet if you went far enough back, all the Modifoxes ever are related somehow," Crys said, raising his eyebrows at his own comment. That was a pretty frightening thought, actually, considering how babies were made...
"Ew. Forget I said anything..."

"Ugh, that is gross! There's no way! The 'deities created a bunch of foxes at once, so we're not all related!"
Okay, so Aodh didn't know exactly which deities he was talking about, but he was certain that was how it went. With...how many foxes did you need so they didn't all end up related? He didn't know. But they had made that many, at least.
Definitely time for a new topic.
"So, you've got a bunch of elders in your family, too. Enigma, Bateu...who else?"
Aodh had forgotten the part where Crys' sister was a member of Bateu, and not the elder herself.

Crystalize laughed then, shaking his head. "No, Marina's not the Elder of Bateau, Ianthe is. She's not part of my family," Crys added to clarify things. "Marina's a Carer over there. But lessee...There's Conundrum, of Enigma, and then...is that it...? No! Sparkio, Marina's brother - her real brother, dunno how that worked, 'cause he's red and she's blue, but ANYWAYS - just got made Elder of Bamboo." Crys nodded matteroffactly - he didn't remember right away because it was so new it slipped his mind.
"So, only two. So far," He said with a laugh, shaking his head goodnaturedly. "And I only have one brother with wings, and I hardly ever see him. He's a Modiphim, named Shock," Crys nodded again. "Prolly 'cause he has bright green shocky lines all down his sides and tail and stuff. He's nice. If you ever meet him, you'd like him."

"But Bamboo had two elders, like Lunarie and Kousetsu." Aodh tried to remember their names for a moment, and gave up when he came up with absolutely nothing.
"Did they die or something?" he wondered if Mom knew about this elder replacement thing that was happening in Bamboo.
"I've never met a 'phim," Aodh added, as nearly an afterthought.

"Not anymore. I...I'm actually not sure what happened to them. I know one of 'em went missing or something...Maybe the other one went to look for 'im or something. Wow, maybe Bamboo is haunted..." It was about that time that Crys realized that he was talking about his own brother, so he quickly shook his head.
"Not haunted. Don't tell anybody I said so, or thought it." Crys nudged him in what would've been enough to send a normal fox aside a step, but it didn't even phase the 'deva.
Then he mentioned never meeting a 'Phim. Huh, interesting. "really? Well, they're kinda cool. No fire from their feet or anything, but big and fluffy," He said with a laugh, shaking his head. "S'possedly you guys all automatically hate eachother and stuff, but I don't think that's true at all. Dunno for sure, though..."

"Who says it's haunted?" Mom hadn't ever said anything like that. But Crys had family in Bamboo, so maybe he heard things that not even Mom had. It was kinda weird, thinking that someone knew even more than Mom did.
"I don't see why. I guess a normal 'deva and a normal 'phim would." Aodh shrugged again. " 'M not a normal 'deva." The whole hate thing was way more work than it was worth, really.

"Nobody did, but both of it's previous Elders disappeared. That hardly sounds like a coincidence, does it?" Crys shook his head reprovingly, obviously not liking what he had discovered. "I hope it's not, really, I don't want Sparkio to get eaten by the curse...that'd be bad..."
Crys frowned now, shaking his head until he remembered that Aodh had said something else. He smiled at that, nodding for once. "No, you're not. I think you're better, 'cause the whole...hating people thing just takes way too much effort," He chuckled a bit, then added, "Shock isn't really a normal 'Phim, either. He likes everybody," Even when he shouldn't.
They walked in silence for a bit longer, then Crys said, "Wow, it's getting really beautiful here, isn't it?"

"Get outta my head!" Aodh was a bit freaked when Crys said about exactly what he'd been thinking. Crys was cool and all, but the whole mind reading thing was freaky.
"What am I thinking about now?" Aodh asked, trying to test out this power Crys had. He was kinda aware that Crys was saying more stuff, but he was too busy thinking about the color orange ('cause he figured there was absolutely no way Crys could just guess that) to really be paying attention.

"Ummm?" Crys said, eying his new friend for a moment before shrugging. He scanned around them, looking for something that would've caught Aodh's eye and eventually picked up in his mouth a bright orange leaf, left over from fall.
"This?" He asked, mouth still full. Seemed like something he might've seen and gotten an idea from, anyways...

Aodh looked at the leaf, looked at Crys, looked at the leaf again.
"It was the color orange," he finally said. He was still thinking about if it should count or not--he wasn't thinking about orange leaves, just the color orange. But Crys had still got it. But Crys had got it because he had seen it.
Was there anything Aodh could think of that Crys couldn't see?
Yeah, there wasn't any snow around anywhere. He was going with that one next.
"What about now?" he asked Crys suspiciously.

"Umm..." Crys looked around again, thinking hard. He wouldn't pick something he could see again, Aodh was too smart for that. What could it be, what could it be...
"Ice cream?" First thing that popped into his head.

"Snow." Ice cream and snow were both cold, but there were tons of differences, too.
"Good, you can't read my mind." Aodh nodded, calmed. It wasn't like he had anything he wanted to hide from Crys, it was just the...what was the phrase...the principle of the thing. In case he thought of something he wanted to hide later, or something like that.

"Oh. Okay. Good. I don't think I'd like to be able to read minds. I mean, not that you have anything I don't wanna know about, prolly, but it's still the principle of the thing. Beyond creepy, that'd be."
Crys shook his head and started walking again, secretly amused that he'd almost been able to read another fox's mind.

"No, really, stop that! 'S not cool!" Aodh half whined.
Yeah, so maybe at some other time he'd be thinking about how cool it was that he and Crys got each other, but since it was Crys who was doing all the getting and he was the one being gotten, it just wasn't cool.
