who says band is the safest? my high school has this old beat up tuba that i play, which i fondly named big bad john. anyway, he has a peice of metal on the bottom that sticks up so when i picked it up during a concert, it ripped thru my slacks and stuck itself into my leg. i had to shove my fist in my leg and the director looked at me funny. i picked up the tuba and had to hold back my scream, when the baritone player saw it he passed me his polishing cloth, which i promptly pressed on the wound. i nodded to the director and he mouthed you sure. i mouthed back hell no but do it anyway, the tuba has a solo. we finshed the concert but not before i got hit in the head with the baritone, 3 drum sticks and a base drum mallet... im still not sure how that happened.

I'm a tuba player, so I play sousaphone during Marching season. My freshman year we were heading back up into the stands after the show at halftime of a football game, and as I was passing by one of the trombone players he just happened to bend over and whack his forehead on one of the sharp screws that connect the bell to the rest of the instrument.
I looked back and he seemed to be okay, so I went along my business after apologizing. During the third quarter (which we have off), one of the percussionists came up and told me the trombone player was in the bathroom, bleeding torrents from the head. I went to check on him, and it wasn't quite torrents, but it was still a fairly nasty gash. He was fine, but he got a nice scar out of the ordeal, and the low brass believes that the sousaphone is evil now because it's had a taste of blood. eek

First like week of Brass band, my teacher was showing us how to put together our instruments. Now you wouldn't think that would be to hard right? Stick the mouth piece in right? Well he didn't tell me to twist it in and I held my BARITONE by my mouth piece and it fell out and the BARITONE landed on my knee and then my foot! It hurt a lot. Then we got a big lecture about twisting our mouth pieces in.

A kid walked by and hit the slide of my trombone while I was playing it. The mouthpiece jerked back into my mouth....it hurt like a #$%^&

I jabbed and sax's a** with the bumper on the tip of my trombone slide... It was funny as hell because he turned around and just bout went all off on me XD

My lips were out of shape from not playing for a week (spring break). So first day we're back, of course, we have a two-hour long practice after school. My lips were bleeding after the 1½ hour mark from not playing for a week. Had to clean out my horn and use my t-shirt to stifle the bleeding.
Then there's the times I've been hit in the head with flags. Ouch. They had these giant ones for a Jurrasic Park piece; weighed in at around fifteen pounds each. Saw one coming at me during a rehearsal so I litterally did a dodge roll, with mellophone in hand, to avoid it. I got ten pushups for it, but better that that being hit on the head with a flag that huge, or worse, my mello being hit (I can fix my head, I don't want to have to fix my baby. Yes, I call my mello my baby xp ).
And another time during competition... well, you know the rule about judges. If they don't move, run 'em over. I ran one over. I don't think we got docked points for it either. sweatdrop

I hit the french horn player who sits in front of me a few times while rehearsing. There's a reason why people dislike sitting in front of the trombones.

I was playing my tuba in symphonic band in the 7th grade and it went over the edge of my seat and it dropped and hit the other tuba person next to me in the leg. I also dove for it and hit my head on it. biggrin

I play tuba and sousaphone. I feel like a klutz when I tell people these stories but this one time at band camp I lost grip of m sousa case and dropped it on my foot and got this bruise. Then my back hurts a lot because of the weight and last year when I didnt have my tuba on I got run over by a base drum... it was funny. blaugh

well just recently i was in privite lessons and i went to put my flute up to my mouth and i hit it on my lipthat hit my braces and made it bleed crying

I have a bloody list:
1. I broke my friend's tooth with my flute. We were playing around in the stands and I hit her in the mouth.
2. I chipped my tooth on my flute the other day.
3. My friend was swinging his trombone around caught me in the shin with it.
4. My band director threw a tuba mouthpeice at me and bruised my shoulder.
5. My friend always hits me with his saxophone case when we're walking out the door.
6. I had to get a loner flute today and one of the screws ripped open my finger.
7. My cousin hit me upside the head with her marching tuba. I was standing there and she was bending over and when she stood up it hit me really hard.
8. In sixth grade I got a drumstick stuck in my ear...don't ask...
I think that's all I can remember.
