Marshall let out an audible giggle when he saw Amaya's Costume. It wasn't that he was picking on her, he just always found Mental Patient costumes rather...funny.
"Well, M'lady, you look perfectly insane tonight," Marshall said in his "Penguin Voice", which sounded like a cross between Anatoli and the guy from the God Father, "Shall we go enjoy the Fesitivites? Nyeh heh heh..."

Amaya couldn't help but laugh at his voice, stepping out of her room and then closing the door behind her. "And you're looking very... penguiney tonight." She smiled.
"Thank you again for going with me, I really appriciate it."

"Nye heh heh heh, its my pleasure M'lady." Marshall said, holding out his arm to formally escort her, kind of like those movies where Royalty would enter some fancy gala. "I'm just really happy you decided to come along." he said with a smile.

"Me too." The teen smiled and looped her arm with his as they walked towards the party.

Another week had passed since her run in with Zach and things were... not looking up for the iguana girl.
Every day it seemed that she got fatter and more noticablly pregnant looking. She spent days inside her duplex crying, too scared to leave or face anyone looking the way she did. What would people think of her? She was only 17 years old! Amaya hadn't even had sex in her entire life!
But there was no escaping how she felt or how she looked. Had the labs done something? Pregnancies could be implanted nowadays. But why HER of all people? She was still just a kid!
Maybe they were doing this just to torture her more than they already have. But nothing set Amaya up for what would happen after a weeks span of seclusion.
She didn't even know how or why she found herself in such a position; but the only thing she remembered was waking up... in a hole.
Yellow eyes opened to see nothing but dirt around her, shocking her awake. She panicked and flailed around the small opening underground before eventually finding an exit and scrambling up through it.
For a moment she stood staring down at it in the afternoon sunlight before noticing that under her claws were packed with dirt - and the hole looked like it had been dug by her. She looked down at the filthy white night shirt she wore to bed last night.
Her green, scaley form was covered head to toe in dirt. Had... she...?
Amaya started to hyperventalate before gripping her hands into fists so hard her claws pierced her skin. Blood ran between her fingers and then was smeared along her long muzzle and over her eyes as she stared at the hole she hadn't even remembered digging.
Something was wrong with her. Something was wrong!
In a burst of dry sobs she ran as fast as she could towards where she assumed the village to be, wanting to find someone, anyone at all to make everything better. To tell her it would be okay and all of this was a dream.
No... a nightmare.

Infertile?Quote: No one had said anything directly to her that wasn't related to whatever medical procedure they were working with. The lab techs would exchange worried, slightly horrified glances every time they would make eye contact, but then they would just go back to whatever they were doing. When Amaya was first brought it, she was cleaned, intrusively physically examined, had some exceedingly embarrassing swabs made, and blood drawn. It was all a hustle of activity , then she was taken to a 'hospital' room and dressed in disposable medical scrubs, hooked up to an IV and generally left to herself. Every hour or so someone would come in, refill her water glass, bring food if appropriate. They would check her tubes, jot a few things down on their clipboard, at leave. It wasn't until the next afternoon, when Aubrey came in, that anyone even asked, "How are you holding up?" Quote: During her stay in the labs, Amaya hadn't said anything to anyone. During the rather embarassing examinations she would cry and refrain from making any kind of eye contact, refusing to speak with anyone and only eating very little despite how hungry she was.
Her emotional state was much worse than her physical state now. She felt disgusting and low, like she had been a rape victim and didn't even remember who the father was. She hadn't even seen the eggs she gave birth to, or even knew if they were normal or alive or dead... or some hideous freaks of nature that were being poked and prodded in another section of the labs.
When Aubrey entered Amaya didn't even bother looking up at her or replying. Tiny whimpers escaped her reptilian muzzle and her shoulders shook with every tiny sob, though her eyes remained as dry as always. Quote: Aubrey frowned and stepped over, placing a hand tentatively on her shoulder. She quietly pulled up a chair and sat down next to her bed, folding her arms around the clipboard on her lap. She gave the girl a few moments, before quietly, "I have a few questions I need to ask, but if you're not up for it, I can wait." Quote: Amaya sniffed and had half a mind to blow her off. But there were some things that she wanted to know too... mostly if the eggs she had laid were actual babies. If they were... she wanted to at least see them. Even if they were freaks too, she was still their mother right?
The girl just nodded and sat up, unable to face her or meet her eyes. Quote: Aubrey tapped the pen on her clipbaord nervously and cleared her throat. "Have you been..." Aubrey stumbled over the word and chided herself for her lack of professionalism, "sexually active in the past two months?" Quote: They saw the cameras wouldn't they know? She thought bitterly... But being angry required energy she just didn't have, so it melted away quickly. She shook her head and spoke in the same whisper that was now her normal speaking voice. "No, I'm a virgin." Amaya admitted, then glanced over at her - yellow eyes meeting with her clipboard instead of her face. "Did the tests say... something?" Quote: Aubrey's expression was unreadable as she jotted something down on the file quickly. She looked up when Amaya made eye contact and attempted to give her a reassuring smile. "The tests say a lot, its just a matter of interpreting what they said." She set the pen down for a moment. "The eggs are unfertilized..." Quote: Amaya finally looked up at her, head cocked to the side to see her properly. Her last statement hit her like a brick and she looked like she had just been told her newborn had died.
"Y'mean they were never alive...?" She asked for clarification. Quote: Aubrey didn't know whether she would consider this good news or bad news. "No, never were alive." Aubrey rolled her shoulders and looked over the girl, trying to remember the young teenage mind on the inside. "Sometimes animals will ... lay eggs, even they haven't mated. Like chickens, and, well.. reptiles. We think this is what happened." Quote: All of that for nothing. Amaya started to cry again, sobbing as she lifted her blanket and shoved her long muzzle into it to cover her eyes. Even as she relayed the information to her, it only fueled her despair.
"I can n-never have a-a fa-family." She stated more than asked between sobs. And even if she could, what would they look like? Horrible half iguana half... whoever was the father. What kind of life would that child have to live? Would it even retain it's intelligence or be an animal? Quote: Aubrey's mouth went slightly agape, and without even realizing it, she grasped at her stomach as a wave of guild fell over her. "Hey... " she put her hand back on her arm comfortingly. "That's not... necessarily true." She gave a puff of breath. "They were infertile this time.. but you haven't been sexually active. The fact that your body is capable of producing what is, as far as we can tell, perfectly viable environments... that's a very good sign." Quote: "But I had EGGS!" Amaya practically screamed, removing the blanket from her animalistic features. "What w-would they even look like?" She sobbed. "I c-can't put a baby through that kinda of l-life!" Quote: Aubrey blinked and learned back a bit, removing her glasses. "Other islanders have expressed interest in children," she said after a long pause. "Raising them in this community." She looked over Amaya and tried to imagine possible outcomes herself. The corners of her mouth dipped downwards. "And I suppose it would depend on the father." Quote: The iguana just stared at her for a few moments before scrunching her eyes closed tightly. She sniffed and gripped at the blanket in her lap, leaning forward as she bit her bottom lip to try and stop herself from crying.
She didn't know what else to say. They were infertile. They had never been alive. She had carried around empty eggs for two months. She had never even had sex and she was only 17 years old.
This was all just a nightmare that she desperatly wanted to wake up from. Quote: Aubrey sat here in awkward silence, feeling more and more guilty by the moment. What could that possibly feel like? Aubrey knew she would be crushed if she lost her child, even this early. But at the same time, where they even the same thing as a baby? It would it be like mourning a period? Aubrey new false pregnancies could really mentally blow a person. and it would be foolish to think this was anything different. "We're going to look into some.. hormone therapy," she said after a moment, "so..this doesn't happen again unexpectedly." Quote: Amaya just nodded slowly to her, eyes remaining shut and her large hands pulling and knotting at the blankets in her lap. She sniffed, looking off to the side. "When can I go back home?" The girl asked pathetically, for the first time conceading defeat in the fact that... this was where she lived now. She wasn't human anymore and probably never would be.
Laying eggs instead of having a child finally proved that to her. Quote: "If you're feeling up to it, I can arrange for someone to escort you back now... if you promise to get lots of sleep." Aubrey perched her glasses back on her face and ran a hand through her hair. Quote: Amaya thought for a moment before nodding. All she wanted right now was to go back to her room. She hated the labs. How the smelled and how they looked, remembering this was the place it had all started... where her humanity had been taken away from her. Quote: Aubrey just nodded back silently. She walked over to a locked cabinent and pulled out her clean clothes, placing it on the side of the bed. "I'll be back in a few minutes," she said, taking out the IV as gently as she could. "With a chair and a guard to drive you back." Aubrey's maternal overload was leaving her feeling almost dizzy. She didn't know it was empathy, sympathy pains, or just her own fears melting through, but she suddenly felt the desire to curl up in bed and just cry. One of her hands kept wandering down over her abdomen and rubbing, as if checking that her baby was still there. Aubrey chided herself for her foolishness, it was still too early.. she couldn't feel it. It couldn't kick. She wasn't showing. The only that really prooved it was there at all was a gigantic shift in her hormone level. Aubrey squeezed her shoulder and headed out. The guards could take her from here, Aubrey headed down into the labs for a sonogram. Quote: Amaya watched her go before looking down at the white t-shirt she had been wearing the day she laid the 15 or so eggs in the cafeteria. Once Aubrey was gone, she reached over and pulled it on over her head.
She still felt weak, but she didn't want to stay in the labs any longer then she had to.
