"Nest year?!" He sounded clearly more shocked than delighted. Would the ninja of Konoha really allow someone so young to participate in chunin exams? She was skilled and he wouldn't deny that, but she hasn't had nearly enough battle experience or technique practice to be prepared for something like that. Unless she was exposed to advanced missions soon, he didn't think she'd be ready.
Besides, when he said she could have a puppy after the chunin exams, he wasn't implying she should take it sooner. Likely she wasn't thinking about that though so...
"Hm?" Turning around, he looked toward the corridor that led to the arena, sensing very suddenly two beings, one more powerful than the other. Looking back to Hotaru, he said to her casually, "I think a friend of yours in the arena. Would you like to go see him?"

Hotaru nodded. "Yeah! I think that if I become as good or better than my team mates then I should be able to handle myself!" She said with a nod. Well, if she had done that much in just a few months then she should be quiet skilled by next year. "A friend? Really? Let's go!" She jumped down from her seat and ran towards the arena.

((A guy named Midnight on the Grand Tournament forum. He's got some stupidly strong (physically) character with high damage tolerance and I'm playing IV, my undead bone manipulator and all around melee pwnstick. He's not all that good of a fighter, to the point where he couldn't fight his way out of a wet paper bag, but he refuses to die. -__-))
As Tac rumages through the book a surge of orange runs down on particular page, causing him to quickly turn from the yellowed pages with blackish grey lettering to another. This new page is split in two parts, the upper slightly dull with prominent black lettering with the bottom a bright white with silvery lettering. As he watched the silvery lettering is being rewritten by the orange surge while a golden light transcribed silver into black, staining the page as it goes. He grumbles to himself, "Crapcrapcrapcrapcrap." He slams the book shut, trying to hide it behind himself, and failing miserably as he looks expectantly towards the hallway with a smile...until kwalala climbs down over his face and sticks there, causing him to flail.

Before he could even rise from his seat, the little one was already running for the hall. Quick little thing she was. With a grin and a silent grunt, he vanished from his seat and reappeared in the threshold of the arena entrance. Arms crossed, the cloth like straps didn't seem to irritate his skin at all.
What he saw didn't immediately make sense. Huge a** book aside, why was there a koala in the Orion? Should Tac have not been there, Keno likely would have pondered this for some time, but knowing what little he knew about Tac, such a spacial anomaly sort of made sense.
"So what's in the book?"

Hotaru stepped before she could run into Keno and then peeked out from behind him. Even with the koala on his face, she could still tell who he was. "Tac! Kwilala!" She ran over to him with a smile. She blinked and looked at the book. "What's with the big book?" she asked.

<<-_- I do hate myself a fighter whose character is many times better than he is. An old friend of mine tried masking his ineptitude with all sorts of techniques and abilities and it didn't work out for him ever. Actually...I don't think he ever really got all that good in the end. I haven't seen him in ages. He probably gave it up.>>

He flailed until he heard Hotaru's voice, whereby he froze, though luckily the small koala jumped off his face to run over to her and do the whole cute cuddly baby animal thing. He continued to try to hide the massive book, "There is no book. What book? I don't see a book. I SEE NOTHING! I KNOW NOTHING!"

With a bit of effort, Keno, who had once again poofed from one place to poof somewhere else, picked up the large book that would be easier to hide were there a dinosaur in the arena. Of course its size was such that he couldn't really hold it steady and open it at the same time for it was too awkward in proportion to his own body.
"Well if it isn't a book, it's one hell of a magazine," he said more to himself than either the child or the man before him. "Where'd you find something so large?"
Tossing it lightly in front of him, it hovered in the air so he could step back and get a full glimpse of the large text. Curiosity being quite strong with him, he very much desired to open it, but he very rarely read in front of people, let alone at all. Literature was something he kept to himself as he was years behind most anyway.

Hotaru giggled then picked up Kwilala. "Hey there Kwilala!" She cuddled with the little animal then ran behind Keno so she could see what was in the book. "I didn't know they made books that big."

Scawled down the spine were a set of jagged symbols which didn't seem to mean anything, though they were definately in a pattern of sorts. On the front of the massive book was the inlay of a clock, and while it was just an image imbossed on the leather cover it was slowly ticking. It didn't show the time of day, much closer to one o'clock and ticking so slowly that it was barely noticable. Tac reached for the book, "I found it in a tower, one thats never finished, being built with each passing instant of every day. Its not mine, and it was entrusted to me for this one day only. Please don't open it..."

"Okay," Keno responds quickly, casually, and seeming almost immediately uninterested in the contents of the book. It slowly lands back on its backside, no worse for wear unless touching it somehow damaged it, which would suck...
"Well if you found it, how was it entrusted to you? It was hidden I'm guessing...or you were found out before you could get away with it?" He was grinning deviously as though he had found Tac out, though he knew absolutely nothing about what was going on and just felt like maybe teasing the guy. Amidst having fun, he didn't think that maybe leaving Tac to his reading would be a good idea. Afterall he only had one day to read it. Keno never finished a book in just one day anymore. Once he started getting into classic and new literature, it always took him at least two days, usually three if he was devoted, to finish anything. This book would take him weeks if not longer from the looks of it, but he payed it no mind as he was sure it wasn't of this world.

Hotaru walked up to the book and looks down on it. "Wow. That book is bigger than I am." She said then looked up at Tac. "Is it heavy?" she asked as she stroked Kwilala's head.

He nodded absently as he looked to the book, visibly relieved, "Its the heaviest burden anyone would ever have to carry." His gaze shifted back to Keno, "No, its nothing like that at all. I found it in the temple library. The... caretaker let me borrow it for a special occassion, though I guess I'm too late, as always. I'm always late." He looked back to Hotaru, "I'm only, what a month late? Can you forgive me? I had meant to visit you, but..."

"Well if you're late, why'd you bother taking this thing? It doesn't seem anything in it could possibly be that important to retrieve after the fact."
It was making a bit less sense to him as time wore on, but from what he gathered, Tac had only one day with which to use this book for some special occasion, but the occasion had already expired and still Tac seemed interested in something the book had. Of course it might be good to have whatever he's looking for in case of a future context of a similar situation, but unless this was some special holiday somewhere, he wasn't sure that would ever be the case.
"Anyway...what brought you to Orion for reading purposes. Pith's library would have bee a decent alternative I think."

Hotaru blinked. "A month late for what?" She asked then looked back to Keno and then back to Tac. "Um, well I'll forgive you for whatever it is." she replied then put Kwilala on the floor.
