A pretty decent episode, I think. I really like the idea of a Dalek who exists purely to imagine. Of course he'd do really dumb stuff, that's all he thinks of. He's physically incapable of thinking inside the box. Though why he had to turn into Davey Jones is still a bit confusing to me.

Why is Davy Jones inserting a cat into his head? This is the work of Dalekanium, surely ninja

Wasn't "the shell of a dalek" called polyhydrothane or something in army of ghosts/doomsday?

The doctor was talking to Jake, and asks him if the guns will work on polyhydrothane, and then says it's the shell of a dalek.

Much better name than dalek-freaking-anium.

Two things that the Cult of Skaro and the Monkees have in common:
1. They're both quartets
2. They don't play their own musical instruments.

Coincidence? I think not!

On a more serious note: regarding Dalek armor, the 7th Doctor once called the Daleks 'little green blobs in bonded polycarbide armor'. But Dalekanium is right up there with Amazonium (Wonder Woman), Gundanium (Gundam), Cybertronium (Transformers), and Porkanium (Muppet Show: Pigs in Space).

Eh... it was okay. It was just... kind of boring. It had some cool parts, where I was gripped into the story line. But so much more of it was just downright 'bla' to watch. I found myself looking away from my computer and wondering when it was going to get to a good part again.

And why didn't Martha just go behind the stage, as in behind the curtain? gonk

Martha does seem to be dumbed down this episode. Oh well. I had such high hopes for her since Gridlock.

Oh Jettrick, this is quite amusing. You're finally on the opposite end of things. xd

The whole episode gave me the impression of an 'The Empty Child' wannabe. It was like it was supposed to be scary, but failed miserably.

Still, not that bad, but not that great, either.

I wish it wasn't so Earth-based... I like the alien worlds! biggrin

But, for anyone who is worried about the plot still being average for the rest of the season(if that happens to be what you think), don't worry. SPOILER:
Captain Jack is coming back real soon! He's sure to make things more interesting again. biggrin

I've got high hopes for the rest of the series, especially the Paul Cornell two parter (Episodes 8 and 9). I'd love to see how they make the Doctor become human and then get him to realise who he is. He's got to! It sounds a very interesting idea.

I just got my pirate DVDs of this 2-parter.
Eh. Not impressed. It was OK, but nothing great, like Gridlock was.
The whole illusion of this being 1930's NYC was instantly shattered for me by that first view of the Statue of Liberty....with the replacement all golden flame instead of the old one that had windows sawn out and colored glass inserted to make the light visible. (Noticed a view of her in pt. 2 has the highly visible golden flame removed or toned down...someone must have realised too late to fix pt. 1.)
I didn't like Sec's new form much...having already seen Roobarb & Pirpi's versions I was expecting it to look better! Y'all raised my expectations too high. sad
I too am getting tired of DT screaming in every episode since the end of last season. Somebody at the Beeb must've said, "Ooo, they all found that exciting and dramatic! Have him do that every week!" rolleyes
And yes, Martha inflicted the first cringeworthy moment of series 3 on me with that bit sneaking through the dancers.

This episode is closer to the old series only with better special effects (although, admittedly, they are still pretty cheesy). Since I am a huge fan of the classic show, I'm not complaining.

It wasn't as fast-paced as Gridlock or Smith and Jones but I still found it quite entertaining. Perhaps I'm just used to watching shows that run at this pace.

I hate Sec's accent, though.

It just showed on Sci Fi in the US. When they kept saying the word 'evolution' I thought they were saying 'Evil-lution' and I thought they were being seriously overly cheesey. It took me until after the episode was over to realise 'oh! they have brittish accents', I felt really stupid. Martha really seems to speak the Dalek's language with a command after every sentance shouted angrily. 'Everybody just do what he says! Obey!' and 'Daleks I demand to be told, what is this final experiment? Report!' She'd have pretty dalek babies with Dalek Sec... now that he's all humaned up and ready to populate the universe with Daleks (which is how I took it that they seem to need to be human so there are more than four Daleks).

Is anyone else bothered by just how far away from the original idea of Doctor Who the show has gone? I'm honestly surprised they've kept the TARDIS a blue police box. After all, isn't it supposed to become something to fit in the place it lands in?

The changes are crazy. The TARDIS can now go exactly where and when the Doctor wants it to. That's not fun.

And now for the Daleks in Manhattan. Is Terry Nation, the creator of the Daleks, still alive? I'm surprised he or his estate hasn't sued the creators of the current show. The main idea behind the Daleks was that they didn't take human form. That's why they're so different than the other monsters and aliens.

Also, in the episode, Dalek, when Christopher Eccleston played the Doctor, the Dalek didn't like the idea that he was changing because he absorbed human DNA. Aren't Daleks supposed to be pure? Why would they sully themselves by becoming humanforml? It really doesn't make sense. I've only seen part 1 of this absurd episode and I loathe it.

I must say that I rather Doctor Who never came back than to see it change this much. I don't really like the shows very much anymore. Though I must say I like the Doctors very much.
