Wow o_o

After last week's yawnfest so much went right in this episode it's going to take me a few posts just to get over my rampant glee at what took place to even post something vaguely relevant to the show.

Even the title managed to make itself perfection! * xD

*Here modified for the sake of our poor, bemused Stateside cousins who mightn't be aware they're coming back >.>

i really enjoyed that episode, though the pig slaves were a little weird... even for doctor who. xd

i thought only one dalek survived with the temporal shift thingy, so how was the whole cult there? ah weeell...

the human dalek thing... surly itll be easy to kill. it has no laz0rz! just wiggly face extremities! WIGGLY! and surly, bad depth perseption... itll just wiggle in your general direction!

OK im sure theyre gonna be a little more impressive than that xd cant wait for its continuation next week!

I wondered that about the cult at first, but they *did* look pretty beat up. Seeing as how three of them are pretty much indistinguishable from regular daleks I guess it's possible they did actually escape and we just never saw it.

What gets me most about this episode is how old-fashioned it all was in terms of storiness. It feels like something ripped straight out of vintage seventies-Who and that's probably why it worked so well. It'd be a shame if we see all the daleks wiped out next week, but at the same time I honestly don't think I'd mind if they went out on a story like this. Dalek 'evolution' had the potential to be a big mistake but it was handled with such unashamed theatricality here I couldn't help but love the idea. My faith in the series is restored xD

What's so important about the Dalek panels on the mast of the Empire State Building.

They've got to be important otherwise the Daleks wouldn't have insisted that the building was finished.

Deja vu on this thread... confused

I didn't dislike this episode - it was quite enjoyable - but it just didn't grab me. I really liked last week's episode, so maybe that didn't help. Also, it's setting/characters are very like an audio one they did in America... though I'll admit the aliens aren't as comical.

Anyway, I'm rambling. I think I can sum up this episode like so...

Things I liked:

* The blonde lady. She could have been annoying - she wasn't. She's quite likeable.
* Dalek Sec. Duh. Though I wish he'd had more screen-time.
* The brain made me laugh. WHY did they leave a brain in the middle of the sewer? Did the Daleks flush it down the loo? ("Oh no... we don't need another brain. Just flush it...") This would be on my bad points but it made me laugh so much I can't say it's bad.
* The setting. Pretty fine... even though it had lots of glowy bluescreen moments.

Things I didn't like:

* The guy sucked into Sec. NO MORE JELLY MONSTERS! NO MORE JELLY MONSTERS!
* Couldn't we have had something other than pigs? Pigs would not make good slaves anyway. They should have been sheep-dogs.
* (Don't take offence Americans but...) Why is the first ever Dalek-Human hybrid American?? *sob* It should have had a non-accent.
* The Doctor's stretchy emotional face when he thought that boy had been eaten by the pig monsters.
* Overdose on genetic experiments. I'm bored now. I want laser guns and space-ship fights please.

Knowing the daleks they're there to to suck the entire cosmos into Sec's squishy green head so he can become the SUPREME DALEK EMPEROR OF ALL THINGS!!!!TM

And yes, the pigs seemed a little stupid at first but my goodness that makeup job was extraordinary o_o They're getting quite adept at dressing people up as domestic animal-hybrids.

I'm curious to see just where they're going with this evolution thing. At a rough guess I'd say that the rest of the cult will probably turn on Sec eventually for his perversion of the species. That or Sec will end up like the Dalek from episode six or the 9th Doctor series.

Yeah, I was thinking that might happen. It'll probably come down to the doctor 'reasoning' with the other daleks though-Sec's pretty much king of the castle at the moment in terms of the heirarchy that seems to be going on within the cult. Or maybe as a newly evolved superspecies he'll turn on the cult himself and wipe them all out with his new powers-which better be death-ray oriented confused

One thing about the other 3 Daleks - we only saw Sec shift, yes..? MAYBE he somehow brought his friends along... from the parallel universe... where ROSE IS... ninja Is anyone conspiring with me here..?

Also - how dumb is martha..? I mean, sure they ain't gonna notice you in your jeans on stage. Only a whole theatre-full is STARING at the stage! Even Rose wasn't that dumb... was she? I would have LOL'd so badly if the Daleks had classed her as idiot.

Also - Series 3 in general so far, from Martha's PoV: Travelling with Doctor = Travelling in time. General lack of oxygen and blue lights shone in your eyes. (SERIOUSLY. They haven't been off Earth yet, she's nearly ran out of air twice and had a blue-lit scanner shone at her twice. In 2 episodes. Doing gooood~~)

I'll be watching this thread like a hawk - I'm writing an English review on it!

I really liked this episode because: a) I LOVE the daleks!, b) My sister was happy (She likes pigs, don't ask me why!), and c) I am SO going to reccomend this to my history teacher when we're learning about the depression!

Other than that, I like the random brain/jellyfish in the sewer, and the pig-slave make-up was really good. I just have one question. Why is it always pigs? There was one in Aliens of London, and there's more now! But it was cool.

Has anyone noticed the (slight) resemblence to the Ood? Wiggly tentacle thingys!

I thought the human Dalek thingamabob bore more than a passing resemblance to the alien menace in top fourth doctor adventure City of Death. The name of said beasty escapes me at the moment but I'm sure wikipedia'd be able to provide it plus an amusing picture or two :3

As far as the brainfish thing in the sewer goes, it was good to see the doctor building outrageously futuristic technology out of various local odds and ends to examine it once again. He doesn't do enough improvising these days >.>

I would love to see my English teachers reaction if I did anything like that... she's very... prim and proper, I guess, and is more likely to watch a historical drama and nothing else.

Wasn't he a little more spaghetti headed? Although I suppose they do both have the cyclopean horror thing going on.

I think my friend once managed to subtly slip The Master into a short piece of prose based on Jane Austin. He likes doing things like that.

I was scared of this episode. Everything seemed to be pointing to a crap-fest, but it so wasn't, a cheese-fest at times, but it was so much FUN! And the accents weren't as grating as I thought they would be.

Okay, where to begin?

So much going on! The Phantom of the Opera sub-plot, the Empie State Building, The FINAL experiment

And okay, so Sec turned out a bit - wiggly - that cliff-hanger was still awesome scream scream scream I won't b able to see part two for six months!!! scream scream scream

crying

Okay, my personal tragedy aside. Awesome. For some reason I though the Slitheen would show up with the pigs, but they didn't, and it was good. The making crazy future technology out of a music box? so Doctor Who. I agree that this story could have been yanked right out of the 70s. And when he said Skaro I got shivers, that was handled SO much better than Gallifrey in TRAB. The classic references are making my inner fan-girl SO happy.

Bad parts: the Doctor's plastic face NOOOOO!!! scream *head desk* That doesn't work. Please, someone tell DT that doesn't work. Maybe he'll stop doing it Every. Single. Episode.
That boss guy's accent was really annoying
The green screen Statue of Liberty (but the sewer sets are pure genius)
And wiggly sec, but he's almost forgiven, just cause he's so weird.

Out of breath.

I don't want to have to wait six months. So not cool...

This episode was OK. But, nothing more, I'm afraid.(disclaimer: this is merely opinion)

The whole genetic experimentation was boring. Oh, pig-men, woohoo. Why pigs, anyway? Ants are good. They work all day and can carry really heavy things. Pigs tend to spend their days eating and rolling in their own muck on a farm. Why not ant-men instead? Oh well. And ants are obedient. As far as I know, pigs don't pledge allegiance to any particular thing. But the Daleks probably have something to fix that. And the Dalek-Human hybrid thing? ...well, the clouds of black pixels(they're supposed to be insect swarms) in Diablo are more threatening.

Anyway I won't do a particularly deep review because, well, this episode didn't grip me at all, in either a good or bad way. It wasn't good enough or bad enough to stick. So, this week's episode hasn't inspired me to think up an adjective for it so I'll end with saying I'm not looking forward to next episode.(well, I kind of want to see next episode to find out how our heroes escape the laboratory-thing...but really, I'm more looking forward to reaching Level 35 on WoW, or level 25 on Diablo II if I can't renew my subscription for a while)
