Eternal Kamacite
Offering the tablet to Siegenite to enter the password ‘forgemaster’. Trying to inspect the fire while calling for a retreat as quickly as possible.

Kamacite watched Zultanite follow after Sodalite with mild exasperation, but he didn’t get to think too much about it because Faustite was contacting him again.

“Forgemaster?” he repeated, just to make sure he heard it correctly. If Faustite felt uneasy about the place, then they all needed to be on their guard. “Stay safe,” he requested. “I’ll try that password and--”

He paused, looking at the note he’d just picked up. “Faustite, there’s a note… says ‘We’re coming back for you. Please accept our reunion gift.’ It has several Knight symbols on it in wax. One carved… but what is the gift…?”

Kamacite glanced up to where Aquamarine was inspecting the cylinder. Until something happened. Whatever Aquamarine did to mess with it, caused it to whirl and finally opened with a blinding flash.

He let out a cry of pain as the magic burned, and he quickly tried stumbling away from the shower of stars with tears in his eyes. What was that kind of magic doing here?

Then there was the heat. He could feel it from the ceiling, could feel the water rise-- not water. Some kind of fuel. And whatever Aquamarine had been inspecting was now beeping.

“Run! Get out of here!” he called to the others, still rubbing at his eyes to try and ease the burns from the light explosion. It didn’t seem fair that he would have to experience this kind of blindness from light.

“Siegenite!” he called, still blinking away the light, but he pulled the tablet back out of his subspace pocket. It didn’t matter if he got the answers, as long as someone did. “Enter ‘Forgemaster’ as the password once you’re safe,” he requested, holding the tablet to pass it off to him.

In the meantime, Kamacite tugged off the long robe he wore over his shoulders. He wasn’t sure what he was going to do with it. He wanted to make sure the others got out, and also try and see if there was a way to stop the fire from lighting up the whole room.

General Aquamarine
Far more interested in getting the ******** out than investigating anything further.

Quote:
”Hey. Not really trouble. There’s symbols of Uranus here… —And Pluto. We found a youma. The whole room apparently rotates. We’ve got ghost knights, or something… Nothing to be worried about. I’m with a good group. Albite says hi. How’s everything on your end?”

There was a joke tucked away in Jet’s short pause. With Jet, Aquamarine would have laughed, even at something so immature as Uranus, but he didn’t have the time for it now — not because of any tightly held sense of decorum; because there was a flash of blinding, burning light, and then the room was on ******** couldn’t respond to Prehnite, could barely even respond to Jet, shouting back, “Ceiling’s on ******** fire!”

Kamacite ordered a retreat for the others, then didn’t leave. Not so very long ago, Aquamarine would’ve happily left him there, but Kamacite was useful (and one of the few tolerable people on their combined teams, if Aquamarine chose to forget the time Kamacite dragged him around by the hair).

(He didn’t forget, but for the sake of tolerating this mission, Aquamarine could overlook it. At least Kamacite wasn’t pulling out starseeds or cracking childish jokes.)

“What the ******** are you doing?” Aquamarine said, grabbing Kamacite by the back of his clothing to yank him away. “Did you miss the part where the other Senshi said this s**t is ******** fuel?!”

Into his communicator, Aquamarine snarled, “Faustite! The room’s on fire and full of some sort of fuel. We’re ******** standing in it, I swear to <********> if I die for this s**t—... Whatever the ******** stars are made a bunch of debris new again, only now there’s some sort of device under a table that’s beeping like a ******** bomb. Unless you know of a way to put this ******** fire out, we’re getting the ******** out of here. Now.”

Aquamarine, of course, was heavily in favor of evacuation. They couldn’t reach a fire in the ceiling, had nothing to stop it from spreading, and had no idea how to deactivate a <******** bomb
. A room this size with the amount of fuel around them… They’d be lucky to get out of the ******** building before the fire spread and the fuel ignited.

Lieutenant Sodalite - Experiencing a vision of what was that ... and then figuring it's best to get out of dodge.

Sodalite cocked his head to the side as the monochromatic field appeared and a memory of what appeared to be the past played before his eyes. He started to move within the field to try and get a better glance at the slight figure of the knight even as her voice began to speak. Was he witnessing a memory that had been activated when he'd pressed the symbol? Is that what this was? He made an effort to memorize what was being said by the figure even as she, and it was a she began to walk to the edge of the field before disappearing as the field around him collapsed. There was a breathlessness at the simplicity of the vision but something tugged at him before he glanced back from whence he'd come to see the rest of his group in disarray ... and well ********. The roof was on fire and what had he heard Hylonome say earlier, that the liquid on the ground was fuel?

Adding fuel and flames would never go down well at all. Glancing to the other lieutenant that had followed after him Sodalite grimaced before hastily checking if there was another exit out of this room that had suddenly started looking like a well crafted death trap. Grabbing a hold of Zultanite's arm Sodalite gave the other a brief shake. "I think we gotta either risk crossing the room again or see if there's something on this side that looks like an exit. Either way I'm not optimistic about chances of survival. Not sure how long we got."

Sodalite wasn't sure if there was a way out but he started glancing along the wall in his immediate vicinity.

Hylonome (Basic Corrupt)

Why was it that things tended to go from slight danger to batshit crazy in less time than it took to blink? Hylonome had just finished getting the readout on the data that had been accumulated and was about to relay the information to one of the Generals with the group but before she could did something register in the senshi of edelweiss' vision. Fire had kindled in the hole in the ceiling and cinders were dropping down into the lake of, oh gods, fuel that she reported on earlier. Fire and fuel were definitely not good bedfellows. Even as she knew that the rest of the team was in danger where they too far away to be helped?

Was it better to try and at least get herself out of the immediate area of danger?

Questions arose even as the sound of beeping caught her attention. Her gaze flicked the the source of the beeping before she rose from her kneeling position to start moving back towards the way in which they'd come. Being outside of the room would be the best idea if an explosion of any sort happened. Hopefully the rest of the team would be able to get to safety. Still shimmering did Hylonome glance to try and find Prehnite in the chaos before running to find some sort of cover. As a healer if things went to hell, then she'd be able to help afterwards, but she needed to remove herself from the immediate area of danger.

General Prehnite
Leaving the console and scooping up his team!

It’d all been going too well, hadn’t it?

All the rising water hadn’t been water at all, Hylonome’d warned him of the fuel.
Prehnite felt hindsight hit him with heat as everything happened at his back, and then he was whipping around, his still shimmering face, even while not his own, was the perfect image of ‘oh ********’ personified.

“Team! We’re going!!” loud and stern, he concurred with Aquas thought-line if not his harshness. Shouted as much to Soda, and Hylo, and Hatsya - the rest who could hear - and he prayed they wouldn’t need orders to get the hell out from under the steadily rising flames.

“Take what you have, we’re making for the entrance with it!” They could disseminate all they had encountered once they made it to the only exit he could see, with the force field still going and the place all alight? He assumed the way out was the same way that’d led them in.

Knew they had to risk the crossing, couldn’t debrief anything if they were all dead.

Kama, Aqua! If you think we’re leaving you—” though the basics came first, Prehnite hacked as the fumes went up and the flames locked higher. Thought he caught Hylonomes sparkling visage in the distance, and reached for her as he ran.

Lieutenant Zultanite
Hanging onto Sodalite, if his trick doesn’t work? Going for the entrance.

He looked at what Sodalite was doing on their lone little island a shots distance from impending disaster. Heard the shouting, snarled at the rising flames—- he didn’t know what Sodalite was doing, but? Then Sodalite had him by the arm and he was back in his own body again. Looking the shimmering no Lieutenant wearing someone else’s face down, “Sodalite, I’m counting to two then we’re making for the exit — we might have to brave the way back—“ and he’d left ******** Kamacite alone, goddamnit.

“We ain’t leavin’ each other tho, clear? We gotta drag through all that then we go.”

Captain Siegenite
Entering "Forgemaster" as the password, also getting out of Dodge

"Understood, sir," Siegenite nodded, taking a step back when Kamacite denied his request. Fair, if there was a potential clue--no point in risking getting locked out by trying a brute-force when a more targeted attack might net them better results.

The strange star struck him, and for a little while, while the magic shone around him, instead of a tall, muscular Negaverse captain, there was a tall, somewhat weedy man, with the same long, blue-teal-white hair, in what looked to be a lab assistant's ensemble. Humble, and slender, and with goggles resting on his head, and certainly quite unlike the man he would be reborn as--though the eyes and the freckles and the hair, certainly, were similar enough to not make a difference.

But, ah.

That was about when things went to s**t.

Whatever renewal magic was here--and of course there was some kind of strange magic here, there was too much Cosmos all over everything for there not to be--had set the ceiling ablaze.

"s**t," he said, under his breath, and he took the tablet from Kamacite. "All due respect, sir, but if this place blows,t here won't be much you can do alone to stop it. You sohuld evacuate as well."

Fortunately, Aquamarine seemed to have that quite under control, and Siegenite was well and capable of walking and typing. So he started moving away, but as he went, he tapped Forgemaster into the password field, hoping against hope that there might be some sort of administrative shutdown that could turn off the fire and/or the fuel.

"Sounds like a threat," Faustite responded to Kamacite. "Be careful." Faustite assumed that the wax symbols must have something to do with the knights that broke into the building, but as for why one was carved – he only had suspicions. He heard the interference over the tablet, but could do nothing for it. "Kamacite –"

As Kamacite [5] looked for a way to put out the fire, it looked terribly high for the Eternal to reach. Perhaps there wasn't a way to put out the fire directly, owing to their lack of access to water or a way to reach it, but they may be able to starve it somehow. As he looked at it, he may be able to see one of the delicate tubules that had previously been obliterated, now broken open and spewing the fire that Faustite vented through the rest of the facility. They may be able to save the room if they could plug the tubule or stop the flame.

Aquamarine supplied more of the picture and Faustite was at a loss for words. If he knew of a way to put out the fire, he wouldn't be on fire himself. "Fall back. Now." Somewhat distantly, Faustite could be heard yelling to someone else. "Captain, can you shut off power to that room?"

As Sodalite [6] looked around, he, too, spotted the tubules that fed the flame into the open. They could surely break the tubules at a different point and cast the flame out at a different angle, but would that be any better than their current position? If they traced the tubules back to the maintenance hallway, then they could break them in a different area, but that was the only obvious solution.

Siegenite entered Faustite's guess at a password and the screen lit up to a personal inbox of sorts. Only a handful of email files remained, each addressed to a mineral name. Most involved requests for clearance, but one email chain had no subject, and was directed between two Generals.

The flame continued to spew unabated. As the area continued to knit itself back together, even the hole in the ceiling began to shrink. shifting the angle of the gushing flame downward. It seemed, to all, that it would be best to return to the rendezvous point and abandon the area.

After a time, everyone's tablet erupted with Faustite's staticky voice. "All teams, wrap up your investigations and return to the rendezvous point. Team leads, report your findings when ready. Once you return, a team from the base camp will rappel down with a resupply for everyone. Use that time to take a breather before our last descent."

Eternal Kamacite
Getting out of the room. Checking on the tablet with Siegenite. Checking on the others.
Roll: 6

Whatever was happening, Kamacite hadn’t expected Aquamarine of all people to grab his clothes. He was thinking about trying to use the tubules to stop the fire or… something. But Aquamarine was right, and Siegenite had taken the tablet to plug in the password while Kamacite was still blinking light from his eyes.

“There’s some-- some--” he stammered, stumbling over the words in his panic. “La conduite--” he said in desperation, pointing up at the tubules with what could only be Faustite’s fire. “What if we could use those to stop the fire in here--”

Unless the fuel caught fire. Or if the bomb exploded. But if it didn’t, maybe they could use that, and the other weapons, for their advantage.

But for the moment, the sound of Faustite’s voice telling them to fall back was enough to have him relent.

He looked helplessly back at the room for a moment, before making sure everyone else were also making their quick exit.

Zultanite, are you okay?” he asked as they made their way to the entrance, and he looked over Siegenite’s shoulder for a moment so he could see that the password worked.

“What does that message say?” Kamacite asked, pointing to the one with no subject, before looking up to where Prehnite went.

“What are you wearing?” he asked cautiously, looking over the strange outfit Prehnite was wearing, trying to make sense of the magic. No one else seemed too concerned that Prehnite looked different. Kamacite had seen him change before, but… it was still a little alarming, especially if anyone else was going to question why he looked like, well… not like his normal uniform.

“You almost look… like a Knight…”

When Kamacite [6] looked over Siegenite's shoulder at the message, they would both be looking at a short email chain between officers. Galvorn had been corresponding with a General Chelonium regarding intelligence reports, with the last email being from Chelonium.

Glad you asked! Turns out there's only one General at your facility that has no record of being a Lieutenant or a Captain. And, here's the big shocker, this General knew some of our enemies personally! Turns out they had some of their personnel files buried when the rest of the rank and file didn't take too kindly to being told what to do by someone who used to be their enemy.

Turns out they had a few people arrange a cover story that they're a General transferring in from out of town. Pretty witty, gotta give 'em credit for that. And! It turns out he was the spearhead for the operation to capture your little factory. And now, this General who used to be buddies with knights is actively working at your facility. Give you three guesses who it is.

We'll be in touch.

—————

Who are you suspecting? I can detain them immediately.

—————

A mole would make a lot of sense, wouldn't it? We know knights can't teleport, not even the capital K ones. Sure, we know they used to own the building for whatever it was they did, but we combed that place over and cladded it from the inside out in our own resources. Even if they knew some special way in and out, they wouldn't be able to get there without leaving some tracks outside.

We're thinking it's a General, considering Captain's don't have enough juice in them to be shuffling people across long distances like that. Lucky for you, we already have a suspect. Good news, right? Removing this one would put a stop to these pesky invasions real quick.

—————

If the break-ins follow the same patterns as teleportation, then do you suspect a mole?

—————

General Galvorn,

You're quite the lucky man. As it so happens, I've already been looking into the little potshots taken at your facility. You know, it's quite impressive that someone like yourself got put in charge of a whole facility like that, and so quickly, too. I'm surprised no one told you I was visiting last Thursday!

So here's what I can tell you:

We don't know how they're getting in. Maddening, right? See, there's no signs of their forced entry when getting into the building. It's like they're already there. It follows the same patterns we expect to see from teleportation: no forced entry, no broken locks, no nothing. And let me tell you, your building is very secure. The Mauvians made sure of that. Co-opted that whole operating system beautifully.

Because we don't know where they're coming from, we can't tell you where to send your troops. As your intelligence officer, I recommend you step up your patrols inside of the building, especially around the vulnerable bits. You know, things you don't want stolen from under your nose. There's a lot of sensitive material in there, and it'd be a real shame to see it go.

Chelonium

—————

General Chelonium,

I was directed to you for intelligence reports in my jurisdiction. We have been seeing an increase in knight attacks at the factory. They keep getting inside and I need to know how they're getting in and what I can do about it. If we can find out where they are coming from, we can dispatch some squads to take care of them and secure the route. It is imperative that we preserve production without interruption.

I appreciate any guidance you can provide.

General Galvorn

Aquamarine managed to crack open a set of tubules with a well-placed kick. The flame flared outward, however, catching his boot and pant leg in a fit of fire that he should be able to pat out with a quick reaction. Perhaps this setback was owing to his proximity to the source, with Faustite stuck in a tube not twenty feet away from him.

In the room full of fuel, the flame slowly burnt itself out. no other fire carried through the broken tubules, which meant the fire in the ceiling was no longer a source of ignition. Perhaps the tampered trap under the table seemed like another ignition point, but its reaction to Aquamarine and Kamacite was of a more magical sort. It may be safe to simply leave it be.

"Is everyone alright?" Faustite hailed him from his isolation.

Lieutenant Sodalite - figuring it's best to get out of dodge.

Tubules that ran along side parts of the wall seemed promising at first but after a brief glance at the set-up it wouldn't have made much sense to explore further. So instead of sticking around Sodalite gave the other lieutenant a brief nod of his head before turning to go back the way that he'd travelled earlier. Doubts flew through his mind that he'd be able to survive anything that was coming but he grimaced before tearing off a piece of his sleeve to at least hold over his mouth.

Sometimes it wasn't the fire that killed but the smoke that came with it. He eyed Zultanite before tearing off fabric from his other sleeve to toss to the other lieutenant. "Best to use it to at least keep the smoke inhalation factor down. If we keep moving the flames shouldn't have time to catch hold."

It was after saying this that Sodalite slapped his torn sleeve over his mouth and began to retreat as quickly, but as safely, as he could.

Aquamarine hissed and swore. ******** fire. ******** Rift. ******** Faustite. ******** Jet always having to stick his nose into things, dragging Aquamrine along with him. Next time, he would stand his ground and say “no,” force Jet to stay behind so he could stay behind.

At least they were spared a disaster. Aquamarine patted out the flames that licked his uniform with a few more muttered curses.

“We’re fine,” Aquamarine answered Faustite — a bit snappier than he intended, but considering the danger they’d just escaped, he thought it was excusable. He repeated himself more calmly once it became apparent that one source of their worries had been effectively put out. “We’re fine. Crisis averted.”

With a glance around the hallway, Aquamarine made sure they were all accounted for. His gaze ultimately settled on Kamacite.

“What do you think of that thing under the table?” he asked, since Kamacite had been near it, too. “Are we okay to leave it?”

The flash of light had seemed like magic, but he wasn’t certain enough to make the call on his own.
