Mercy Haynes

If Nick was wondering why he had invited Mercy to the event, Mercy was equally wondering that exact same thing. It had come as some degree of shock, and the girl had almost wanted to ask him if he was joking but had had decided against it on the off-chance he was being serious. The fact that he had been had made her heart do that butterfly wing flutter thing, and she had fallen back onto her dorm bed in a fit of girlish giggles once she'd hung up the phone. There may have been some kicking of her mattress as well.

All the same, she was keeping pace with Nick, having dressed properly for the weather but still trying to look her best. She'd done her hair in a small braid that hung over her right shoulder, and she turned her head a bit giving a small smile at his question.

"Oh, uhm... I guess a little, but if you want to check out that booth first we can, I'm not starving." She said she turned to look at the booth, seeing some of the contents and grinning. Figured. But this was the closest thing to a date she'd ever really had so... She was going to run with it.

Delilah

His words had Delilah chuckling. Her free hand coming up to muffle the laughter, it was at least a sign he had done something to ease her tension. Now if her shoulders would just get out of her ears she might even look comfortable.

"It isn't that bad. Just looks like you lost a fight with a chef maybe." Okay, bad joke but she couldn't think of anything fast enough that wasn't literally what was on him. Blame it on the still scared of the cop.

But then came that crooked grin and something about it made her smile grow. "Well then, if you would be so kind..." Delilah offered him the funnel cake as well. A peace offering. "As to head towards the drink stations. I'm sure we can get some water over there. Unless you are stationed here then I will be happy to get something."

Her free hand was slowly patting the front of her sweater as she spoke. White 'dust' flew off in front of her and it was clear she wasn't watching where she was patting. If it had sugar, it needed to be clean.

"I'm sure your brother can't be that bad Officer. Unless it's super glue. That is impossible to get out of fabric. I've tried..."

Nick

Either Nick didn't hear her or he was mentally already trying to identify the replica knife he had picked up. Clearly a prop but still, it was pretty close to the hidden blade in Assassin's Creed. Oh there was the sword from Lord of the Rings. And there...

That was when he saw the sign 'Must be 18 to handle the weapons or with an adult'.

Well his birthday had been earlier that month. Problem was he was only 17. The other problem was the only adult in his life was his Aunt and she...

Was in either France or Vancouver. He really didn't care either way.

Suddenly seeming to remember someone else was with him, Nick spun back around, red as the tent they were by. "Oh um....food...yes...oh um...whatever you like. I really don't know what girls like to eat now adays and um..." Failing so hard...

"Oh is that a snake charmer?" Yes Nick. Change the topic...great move.

Mercy had stood back and watched as Nick began to observe and rifle through the things, she had seen the sign but wasn't worried about it. The sign was poorly displayed, and she was pretty sure her father would argue that it was hardly a proper disclaimer. Not to mention that the staff didn't look to be super attentive so...

However as Nick spun, red in the face and fumbling with his words and actions, Mercy reached out and took a hold of his hand, and pulled him from the tent in a slow walk. "Funnel cake is good," She said. "Plus we can share."

She looked over his shoulder at him and smiled. "I think I saw it over this way."

Puzzle pieces seemingly clicked into place in her head as she carefully listened to Myles with undivided attention to the words spoken to her in reply. "You're brilliant," she responded after her mind processed his words as they reached her. Her eyes had widened momentarily upon being taken aback but she was far more than pleasantly surprised and definitely filled with great admiration for the dedication and craftsmanship the professional before her possesses.

"Thank you," Caely extended one hand and received his business card gratefully. She shifted her position with a few, small steps. And then with her other hand, she picked up a strawberry-flavored soap she knew she'd take home with her. "Yes," she chuckled lightly as she began to answer brightly, "I'm already having a wonderful time though I have practically just arrived. I see that there's a lot of fun and good times to be had here. Oh, yes, and December also holds a lot that I look forward to. It feels like December already and yet October and December do have distinct treasures. How about you, how are you finding the festival so far?"

As she awaited his answer, she lifted the soap to catch its scent. "Wow! I'd like to purchase this work of art, please, my hands have half a mind to go looking for a sink right now, too," she couldn't help saying next as she laughed briefly at how she was reacting to the wonders here, having forgotten straight away that she initially had intended to express her interest in buying the item not so quickly after her previous question so as to attempt not to overwhelm her new acquaintance.

Marlin had known about the Fall Festival for some time and whilst he hadn't expected to be personally at the event, the event had been on the planner.

His dad was the one who was actually supposed to be covering the Fall Festival, as the stall - which was a collaboration effort between Fancy a Change and Teahouse Creations - was something that had come about due to the fact that the Teahouse Creations owner was an old friend of his father...

But his dad had decided somewhat unilaterally that the Fall Festival would be a nice change of scene - which was how he he had ended up as the one dressed up in an outfit that was a cross between a warlock and a vampire lord.

Not that he minded, given that he would have still been in costume even if he had been at the shop as initially planned.

Because dressing up was a good way of showcasing the stock.

Elaine - the owner of Teahouse Creations - had got into the spirit too and was currently dressed up as a witch as she carefully set out a few more of the drinks that made up to look like liquid candy corn and intermixed them with the drinks that she had topped with edible cobwebs.

There were a couple of other drink options on offer too as well as plenty of edibles in the form of cupcakes that had been decorated to look like little bubbling witches cauldrons, spookily-themed cookies on a stick and plenty of the classic toffee apple.

For his part Marlin had bought a selection of different masks and had carefully hung them up earlier in the day when setting up.

He had more with him so that he could re-stock as needed too.

The stall was looking pretty good and it seemed like there was a fair amount of footfall already and so Marlin was hoping for sales.

Eunkyun Lee:

She'd never been to a Halloween festival or any sort of fair. There had been a fair during the summer but she hadn't been able to go, due to being away for family reasons. This time however was different, this time she wasn't back in Korea, and she had been able to convince her elder cousin to come with her. She had suggested he bring Terry, make it into a date of sorts, but Terry wasn't with them and she was unsure why and she wasn't going to ask.

She was happy though as they stepped past the ticket booth, all the lights and people and noise. It looked like there was a lot of fun to be had here, and that brought a smile to her soft features. Looking up at Seung she looped her arms about his left arm and let him lead the way.

Pointing out things as they went she did ask for a drink, something she could carry with them as they wandered around the carnival grounds. Nodding her head when he said they'd have to find a place, but sure she could have a drink, she kept her dark eyes on the lookout. She could smell cooking, frying, food and knew they'd have drinks there. Soo....follow the smoke!

That's what she did, once she decided that was the quickest way to find a food and drink booth, and it didn't take long though the line did take a while. The order was simple - two drinks. The food smelled good but she wasn't hungry at present, she'd had dinner before leaving for the fair grounds.

"Thank you oppa." Snuggling into her cousins side as she sipped her drink. Now to get him to do something, maybe go on a ride with her...ohhh or the haunted house she heard a couple discussing.

Seung Kim:

He didn't mind taking his cousin to the fair, she needed the break from her studies, he was glad that she came to him with the idea. Back in Korea he'd always had to invite her places, when he wasn't busy, so she could relax and unwind a bit. He'd done the same with his little sister, he didn't want either of them suffering from too much stress, but here it was just him and his younger cousin.

Listening to her softly spoken words he nodded to her request for a drink, of course he would get her a drink, come to think of it he wouldn't mind something either. Letting her lead the way and find them a place to get drinks he stood in line with her, talking softly together, as they glanced about and listened to the people around them. He could hear people ahead calling out food orders - sausage, pepper and onion and other things...fries, onion rings.

The food smelled good but he honestly didn't trust that he'd like any of it, it was why he'd had dinner before leaving for the fair. When they got to order he gave the simple order, two bottled drinks rather than the soda's a lot of people were ordering. Juice filled bottles were taken and his own was uncapped and a few small sips taken. Once it was recapped he placed it inside the messenger bag he carried with him, in case he had any allergic reactions to strange foods or anything else.

Watching his cousin observe everything he nodded once to her. "Anything you want Eunkyung." Was the simple reply. He wondered, for a brief moment, if she would run into friends and leave him alone here. It wasn't that he'd get upset, he'd be fine with it, but he wondered what he'd do then...he'd figure something out he was sure. He had told Terry he would be coming here, left him a text, but hadn't heard back. He figured he was busy with something computer related or some school work.

Jack Burnett
"Yeah? I was gonna say, sounds like he'd have to be if he has a best friend buying him giant fairy wings," the red-head laughed. "But he must have a reason for having you as a best friend, too," he pointed out. "I mean you're being so thoughtful even just considering spending more to get wings large enough to suit him. Most guys I know would pick the first or cheapest pair they saw just as a joke. Sounds like you really expect this friend to actually wear these."

He chuckled at the description of the man's friend. "Oh, one of those guys. Yeah, I know the type. Infuriating, aren't they? But you know it's not their fault and you just can't bring yourself to hate them." Shaking his head, Jack set the two large pairs of fairy wings on the table and turned around to examine the greener feathered ones they had.

"You have a Sun Conure? Neat! Aren't birds tough to train, though? I heard that if they get rebellious, you have to let them bite you for a while without reacting so that they know you're not going to stand for any of their misbehavior."

Browsing through the pairs, he caught a glimpse of yellow graduating to green and brought it out. "What about this one? I think this should fit you pretty well. Not sure how close it is to a Sun Conure's plumage, though," he added apologetically, taking out his phone to try to check what one looked like.

Kit Paine
"Right...I think you mentioned that you had been adopted a year ago, but not that you had lost your memories from a head injury the year before," Kit commented. "So you could have celebrated others, but you wouldn't remember, huh? I thought you just might not have been able to celebrate it before for some other reason. I should have put two and two together. Anyway, hope you enjoy this year's."

He blinked. Her shoes? "I thought you said you went to buy fabric for your costume. Are you wearing it or something else?" he asked, trying to picture it. "It'd be great if I could go around just staring at everyone's shoes, heh, but I think I might end up running into something. Got any other clues?"

For anyone who knew of, or shared, Mei’s history regarding large places with lots of people; they could easily understand why she was on the fence about coming to the fall festival. But after some encouragement, and a bit of nagging, mostly from her parents she finally caved.

That wasn’t to say she wasn’t on edge a bit but at least she’d try to have fun. That’s all anyone could really ask for anyway not that they would know the difference. One thing this dual life had taught her was how to wear a mask of indifference and hide what was really going on all to keep your loved ones safe. At least her brother, Shen, knew and sympathised to a degree.

Either way Mei held her ticket stub and cellphone in one hand as she passed through the security bag check line and stepped to the side beside the gate to send a quick voice-to-text message to Delilah.

Hey, comma, I just got here, period. Where can I find you, question mark?

She asked before hitting the send button.

Jeremy seemed to relax a bit when Delilah did; often his emotions were reactionary to those around him--at least, when he was on the job.
The funnel cake being in such close proximity was torture, though. "These things are so bad for you," he muttered, but he was far too fond of them to care. "I'm only stationed around the fair, so I can meander where I please. I'm just supposed to walk around and scare everyone into behaving. Gonna go bug my brother in a bit. who, by the way," he looked at Delilah very seriously.

"Is the reason half my clothes smell like some weird concoction. He does all these scent crafts or something. My apartment perpetually reeks of the stuff. I think I've lost my sense of smell because of him. He's around here somewhere."

Jeremy craned his neck, as if he could see over the stalls, but promptly shrugged. "There are times when I'd take super glue over his arts and crafts, but he's gotten a lot better. He's been making these coffee-bacon-pancake ones? You know, three of my favorite smells in the world. He's not happy with it yet, but damn. Don't tell him I said it, but I'm pretty fond of what he's got going for it so far. Wouldn't mind if he spilled that on me."

Jeremy moved towards the drink stations, though as they walked he figured they'd exchanged enough words that it was probably time to exchange names. "So, I'm Officer Fischer. Jeremy, for short. Who should I credit this amazing design to?" he asked, gesturing towards the remaining powder splatter he still wore.

Myles seemed surprised by the compliment and while he was delighted to hear it, seemed to stumble over a response. His cheeks flushed just slightly and he couldn't hide his sheepish smile.

"Thank you," he said, shifting positions. The mention of the festival put him back in his element though, and he was quickly bubbling with excitement. "I love it. I love everyone's costumes, and seeing what the other stalls are selling. The food smells so good, and the music isn't bad! Though, I'm glad I'm a little further away from it so I can still talk! Uhm--Candles are six, soap is two. But, I've got these little sample bags, too," he fished around for a moment behind the stall and produced a small, clear bag. Inside were six different colored blocks, each individually wrapped and roughly the size of an eraser. "Sometimes I don't have enough of a batch left to make a whole bar, so I make sample sizes out of them. It's a mixed assortment, but you've been so sweet that my head's already, so I want to give them to you, free of charge. If you like!"

She could relate as well to the thoughts Myles was expressing about the festival. "It's a refreshing experience to be here," she said with a happy nod of her head.

Upon being presented with the bag of samples, Caely blushed in kind. Appreciatively, she accepted his offered gems and in the process caught his name printed on his business card while making sure not to drop anything. "Thank you so much, Myles," she beamed.

However, there were other items that had caught her eye as well. "Anndd," after momentarily getting herself organized with a brief exchange to and from the roomy but not bulky shoulder bag on her person, she then gathered together a candle and one additional bar of soap of different flavors from the selection. "And also, Myles, I'd like to buy these as gifts for friends of mine I'd like to share your brilliance with, please," she expressed smilingly along with offering him the total of her purchases from the wallet she now carried where she had place his business card inside of beforehand. "My name is Caely. It's wonderful to meet you," she introduced herself to him, too.

So far they had mostly been looking at booths to see what was there, but they were both starting to get hungry. Jason thought he had seen someone who went to the same school as he did, but with this large of a crowd it was bound to happen. And he hadn't really interacted a whole lot with any of his classmates yet so he wasn't sure how to approach anyone else yet.

While walking along, they both spotted a booth with what appeared to be food, Huzzah!, and some masks which had caught the brothers' interest. Tom went straight to looking at the food and drinks while Jason decided that he would look at the masks. He was really interested in them and Tom might buy one of them too. But of course it was always a battle as to whether you should buy what you want now or see if you would find something you liked better later. Both of them could afford to buy what they wanted, but it was more a matter of storage space in the places they lived.

Tom had been the one to wander over to the 'Howlin Pumpkin' booth. The food was what had first attracted him but he was also a sucker for good Halloween decorations too. He would have to pace himself though, he wanted something that wasn't full of sugar tonight as part of his meal. But then again he could just buy some sweets and save them for later...

He took a look at the masks too, now joining his brother at looking at them, however his eye was drawn back to the food again. There was no helping it. He noticed the two vendors too and it once again made him wish he had come in some sort of costume. He smiled before saying to the woman, "I'll take some of the cookies and at least one cake..." He trailed off a bit while trying to decide if he wanted to buy more than one.

Sean
Sean had been looking forward to the fall festival from the start. It sounded like it would be quite the festive event! Though as soon as his mom heard that people could have a stall to sell things, she suggested he sign up for one. He had made so many plush toys, after all; he might as well try to sell some. And being the dutiful boy he was, he went ahead and signed up. Then made some more toys just for the festival.

When the day arrived, his setup was pretty simple, he’d never sold anything like this before, so the stall was little more than “line the toys up on a table.” He had a pretty good variety of them though, all in soft, brightly-colored fabric. There were a lot of dogs, cats and teddy bears, but there were a few other animals as well, like dinosaurs, dolphins and ponies. Each one had a small sticker on their head with the price written on it.

As the festival opened, Sean adjusted the toys one last time, then pulled up his hood and smiled out at the crowd. For the occasion he’d chosen to dress to match his wares, in an outfit that was pretty much a giant stuffed toy: a kigurumi of a lion that he’d made himself, shortly before the festival. It was really comfortable too, and he thought he ought to wear it more. Maybe it would be his Halloween costume this year.

Jessie was just whittling away the time making various origami creatures, mostly bats, owls, witches, and pumpkins in spirit of the fair. She had sold a few books but what she was really waiting for was her relief so she could go explore, she had heard that the library had a stall too and she was itching to take a look at their wares. She wasn't sure actually who it would be, either Lucas or Quinn, one had to run the store while the other spelled her here at the fair, she left it up to them to decide. A small part of her hoped it would be Lucas but since she didn't understand why that was the case she ignored it and instead focused on the next series of folds for her black paper cat.

Getting frustrated with the way the sleeves of the floofy pirate shirt was making it hard to precisely fold the paper Jess gave up and instead picked up her most recent book. It was an old favorite of hers and particularly apt considering her costume; White lacy pirate shirt cinched at the waist with a wide black belt, black skin tight leggings, faux leather knee high boots all topped with a back tricorn hat. Treasure Island... One couldn't go wrong with good old Long John Silver.

Pat O'Ryan

Pat winced as he bumped into another person, apparently the fair was starting to get crowded. With his height he spotted a fairly empty spot on the other side of the fairgrounds but it would take a lot of maneuvering to reach it without running over, or being run over. As he got bumped into yet again, at least this time he got a brief 'sorry' before the kid ran off, Pat decided it was worth it. Just about anything was worth getting out of this crowd. It really sucked that he couldn't even dress up like some people were, Halloween really was his favorite holiday since no one looked at you like you were crazy if a grown man dressed up but since he was going to end up driving a bunch of buzzed friends the tall redhead ended up in a simple black t-shirt. It was at least snarky and Halloweeny since it said 'I don't do Costumes (now step aside your standing on my invisible dog)' in large glow in the dark paint. He even got a few smiles and laughs from it so at least it wasn't too bad.

The redhead was so focused on his destination he nearly ran into a small family. "Whoah." He stopped suddenly when the crowd seemed to part directly in front of him without warning, giving him very little time to actually come to a stop before mowing down a baby stroller, which he thankfully did. He shot the couple an apologetic smile before actually voicing it, "Sorry about that." He tipped an invisible hat and was about to continue on his way when he spotted the two little mites the parents were holding and paused once more.

"Uh this is going to seem strange but I won this bear," He held up the small green bear he had been carrying around, "and well, it just doesn't go with my outfit. Would you folks like it?" Pat really didn't want or need the bear. At least this way he wouldn't have to cart it around with him anymore. That is if they accepted the stuffed creature.

At first, Glen wasn't going to join the fall festival, school was top priority these days, but one of his instructors just happened to mention they would offer extra credit if students were to participate. And really, that's all Glen needed to go ahead and begin planning his stall, buying platters and decorations, and with his dads help, purchase lumber and assemble his stall that morning, and bake the night before and morning of. He was tired, but, admiring his stall and arrangements, he was also pleased and excited.

Glen wished he had dressed for warm weather though, as he pulled at his sweater a bit. But hell, it was cold this morning, you would think he'd learn. He moved his hair out of the way, not wanting it to get near the food, or plastered to his forehead, and took the chance to briefly look at other stalls, sort of hoping a clothes stall or two showed up.

He turned his attention to the open grounds, watching patrons slowly make their way in and the day officially kick off, a bit of his earlier excitement ebbing slowly into a quiet nervousness. Would he actually attract anyone? Hell, if he did, would they even like what he baked? Well, he supposed it was too late now to worry. And even if they didnt, he'd get a picture of his stall to show his teacher that yes, yes he had been there.
