Dare I Leap?

Never did Captain Mica feel the need to fear her own city. Even before she had awakened as a Negaverse officer and took on the duties that were required of her, Destiny City had changed little. It was her home, and it was infested. Infested with Senshi of the White Moon Court. Infested with knights. Before then, it was infested, but that kind of infestation hardly bothered her. She grew up around them and had learned to deal with them. She learned all the dark paths, the kind that parents would warn their children to never venture down. To Nyasa Freeman, these horrid streets were her playing ground, and it have also become her hunting ground. Very few Senshi dared venture down these alleyways, which would have made Mica feel rather discouraged. But tonight, she welcomed the solitude.

Her discussion with General Ilmenite did not quite play out as she was expecting it to, and she wasn’t sure why. She had done a mission with him before, back when they were of equal rank, back during the old days of the Negaverse, but the details were a bit hazy to her. She had been gone from the scene for a rather long time, and things had changed. Destiny City had changed. The Negaverse changed. People changed.

Except she felt as though she had remained the same. Ilmenite was proof of this. In her absence, he had moved up in rank, accepted the Negaverse’s changes and only chose to become stronger. Or perhaps the Negaverse had grown weaker. She had once suspected this to be true once, but perhaps she was wrong. Perhaps change was what needed to happen, and she had been a stubborn fool to turn away from it, instead of embrace it.

When she was pushed towards the precipice of change, she found herself staring down at it, with fear, with apprehension, and what she had seen she did not like. So, whereas others threw themselves down, she had turned away entirely, and thus, she had allowed herself to become stale and obsolete. Useless. Cold and dead.

Ilmenite had not only leapt the precipice, but he fully absorbed it, took it into his arms and shaped it to work in his favor. He had grown stronger, wiser, and Mica understood now what she had failed to understand just moments ago. Whatever happened to him in her absence had only made him stronger, and that there were others like him, who were all growing in new ways, under this new direction of the Negaverse. She had seen that the change that she could see from the top of the precipice was only the surface of a very, very deep chasm, and waiting at the bottom of the chasm… would it be worth it? Would it make her stronger? Would she… welcome the change?

Or would it kill her? Would it break her, Nyasa Freeman, and leave nothing but a shell behind?

… She would sleep on it.

Dance the Night Away!

She couldn’t remember. She simply couldn’t remember.

When was the last time she had taken the streets as Nyasa Freeman? Surely it couldn’t have been that long ago, could it? She had taken her roommate’s oversized dog to the vet, gone grocery shopping, done boring, mundane human things as Nyasa, things that she couldn’t have done in her powered form, but why did it feel as though she never spent time out of her uniform doing the things she wanted to do?

It was a simple answer. She simply didn’t.

Everything she had done had been for business, either her dealing or for the Negaverse. She had been playing the double role of responsible adult and a Negaverse captain that she simply didn’t really have the time or energy to do what she wanted. What Nyasa wanted.

And what did Nyasa want?

She wanted to have fun. And fun she would have. She left a note for whenever her roommate got home, even when she suspected he would be much too drunk to read it or even find it, and truly she didn’t care. He’d likely hold a sexy rave party for himself when he noticed that she was out of the house, so what did she care? She didn’t, and she refused. Tonight, all she wanted to do was take to the raunchiest night club and enjoy herself, before Father Time caught up with her, before the Negaverse gave her, yet, another order to follow. Tonight, it all about her. Nyasa. And how much liquor her stomach could handle before it came chugging back up.

She knew she ran the risk of over indulging, but she simply didn’t care. She wanted to let her air down, she wanted to go crazy, go nuts. There was this thing called ‘twerking’ that she had heard about, and with enough alcohol and enough encouragement, maybe she would be willing to learn how to twerk.

Or not. She watched another girl do this dance, flapping her butt cheeks against another man’s thighs and immediately realized that she simply didn’t have the body, or the patience for it. Not to mention she looked downright silly, and as carefree as she had told herself she had become, she wasn’t quite willing to go to that length. Perhaps she could take note and give her roommate a tease, had she thought him capable of restraining himself from sticking his pet snake into the nest, so to speak. That would be a prank she’d have to throw into the ‘not in a million years’ list.

Barring this ridiculous dance move called ‘twerk’, Nyasa was determined to enjoy herself fully this evening, and she had no intention of letting a single moment go to waste. Tonight, it was Nyasa night, and this next song? It was hers!

Stupid Dog, You Made Me Look Bad!

Richard was good as dead the next time she saw him.

It seemed like such a simple request, one that wasn’t too beneath her to oblige. There was a note next to the fridge, with an adorable little smiley face on it, as if the fact that he wrote in nice bold letters on the brightest yellow sticky note wasn’t enough to draw her attention.

’Dear ungrateful roomie, please take Baldwin to the groomers today. Next to the leash is a credit card and some cash for tip should you deem they did an acceptable job. Your payment shall come when I get home tonight.

Hugs and kisses,
d**k.’

It was the least she could do, considering he was allowing her to remain in his condo rent free, but she found the condescending tone of his note to be a little over the top and downright annoying. Oh, and then there was a blatant insult at the top of the note and the oh so mature cartoon d**k drawn in place of his name. If there was something that Richard constantly lacked, it certainly wasn’t a sense of humor, and if anything, she managed to crack a smile at his cheeky humor, even as she geared herself up for the adventure that she was certainly going to have.

She managed to wrangle the horse of a dog once before, so certainly she could manage to do so once again. Baldwin was large, but gentle, and absolutely the most mellow dog she had ever laid eyes on. Even now as she looked into the living room where he lounged on the sofa, one ear perked upwards and the other bent, and bushy brows that threatened to blind the poor creature’s chocolate covered eyes, he seemed so relaxed and disinterested, so Nyasa thought that it was the least she could do for him. Between the tenants of this household, Baldwin was the one that asked for so little, and Richard didn’t usually ask for favors.

And truly, what else did she have planned for today? Besides mope around the luxurious condo and lament the failures that surrounded her and try to pull herself out of the rut that she found herself perpetually trapped in? Not to mention the thought of a surprise from Richard intrigued her. She just hoped it wasn’t candy… unless it was chocolate, then perhaps that would have been more than enough to please her.

Had she known that Baldwin was just as tricky and deceitful as both his master and roommate, she would have properly prepared herself, but the moment she got the leash on him and got in into the streets, that dog’s ears perked and he was gone! All it had taken was a little tug and the leash snapped, and down the streets went the grey, fuzzy stead, whip like tail wagging and the wind caused by his galloping speed more than enough to free the hair from his eyes and give him a clear view of the path before him. And what could Nyasa do but give chase? There were too many people in the streets to risk transforming and abusing her super speed to catch him, and she didn’t want to risk the possibility of losing sight of him.

“GET BACK HERE, BALDWIN! THIS INSTANT!” She screamed at the top of her lungs, thankful that she was at least fit enough to keep after him with every twist and turn. This wasn’t how she wanted her morning to go! Chasing after a dog and praying to every god and deity in existence that the Irish wolfhound didn’t try his luck in the streets. She didn’t want to have to explain to Richard why his dog and the driver and passengers of that vehicle that Baldwin totalled were dead. This would earn her the mockery and ridicule of those around her, and perhaps some scorn for failing to contain her roommate’s dog, but she wasn’t going to have a dead dog on her watch. Just his damned owner. “GET BACK HERE, OR NO BACON!”
