But that’s a given, isn’t it?

OH, YOU MAY NOT THINK I'M PRETTY
▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅ ▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅ ▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅

First Year

Strengths: Like any good Hufflepuff, Cecilia is extremely loyal to her friends. However, there’s an actual hierarchy when it comes to those who she keeps company with. If it ever came to deciding to side with one of her pureblood best friends and someone she’s roughly friends with, she’ll always side with her best friends (regardless if they are right or not). Despite the reserved attitude she puts up, Cecilia is in truth, very free spirited. She loves mythical stories and lore more than anything in the world and she always imagines herself in some sort of Greek Drama—and she enjoys activities like swimming (she imagines herself being a mermaid). However, she tends to keep this side of her secret, so she looks like, on the surface, every other snooty pureblood.

Weaknesses: When it comes to her friends, Cecilia will almost do anything they want her to. Despite being a pureblood, she hasn’t had the “superiority” mentality enforced on her to an extreme extent—however, due to her company; she’s been forced to live by those standards. She constantly has the “weight” of being pureblood on her mind. There’s constantly the question of: Is it socially acceptable for a pureblood to do this? Because of this sort of mentality, Cecilia stays away from things that she consider to be immature and childish because she’s so obsessed with how people see her.

Habits: Though her parents didn’t really actively discriminate against other bloodlines, they taught Cecilia believe that purebloods were supposed to be the best of the best—and though that didn’t technically mean that other bloodlines were lesser, but the result was the same. Cecilia was put through countless Etiquette classes on how to behave. Therefore, you’ll almost never see Cecilia nibbling on her lips (“A filthy habit!” Her mother declared), twiddling with her hair (“Don’t do that, Cecilia. It makes you look uneducated!”), or even placing her hands in her pockets (“Quit that, you’re stretching out your skirt!”). She always had to sit prim and proper, with her hands clamped “delicately” on her lap (unless she was taking notes, in which case “No elbows on the table!”)

Hobbies: Cecilia decided on several pre-approved hobbies that she could take place on. However, for every leisurely activity Cecilia wanted, she had to do something that her parents found proper. In order to take swimming lessons, she had to learn how to play the piano better than any magicked instrument. In order to purchase some books on astronomy, Cecilia needed to also read through several copies of Etiquette: For Up and Coming Societal Witches. It was always a sort of give and take system with her parents—but when it came to grades, Cecilia needed to succeed above average otherwise all leisurely activities would be taken away from her.

Likes: Cecilia has several obsessions—but the most prominent at her eleven years of age is Greek Mythology and Astronomy (Hah! Witches and wizards pretending to be gods, how funny!) and swimming. She’s almost equally obsessed with both of them and she can almost always be found in the Astronomy Tower or out swimming in the lake (when she isn’t studying or maintaining social relations with her friends). Though she’s never been allowed on a broom before (“Quidditch is a barbaric sport, darling! Leave it to the boys! Girls shouldn’t be mounting brooms and behaving so roughly!”) she can only imagine that she’d love it. The reason she enjoys swimming so much is that freedom that comes with it—and flying? It seemed even more liberating than swimming!

Dislikes: Dancing—(“It’s a must for a proper lady!”) Cecilia firmly believes that a witch’s body is not supposed to bend like rubber. And therefore, one cannot expect her to be able to twirl without getting dizzy or bend backwards without breaking her spine. Of course, she would never dare to express her feelings to her parents, so she begrudgingly takes Dancing Classes. In actuality, Cecilia tends to dislike all the things her parents sign her up for. However, the need to still please her parents is what keeps Cecilia dancing, taking etiquette lessons, keeping above-average grades, and countless other arduous tasks that are for “proper witches.”

Three words to describe your character: Wistful. Introverted. Loyal.

Her mother and father met at the Yule Ball during the Triwizard Tournament. For her father, it was love at first sight and he immediately asked her to the dance. And her mother, who had been educated by her own mother on the other purebloods that were attending the Yule Ball, jumped at the occasion. She acted sweet and feminine so to snare Cecilia’s father in and by the time the Tournament was over, her father was madly in love with her mother and begged his parents to set up an arranged marriage between the two of them. And thus, when the two of them were both out of school (Cecilia’s father is two years older than her mother), they were wed. Shortly after, Cecilia was on the way.

Cecilia’s father adored Cecilia when she was born—so much, that he didn’t even notice that his wife’s attitude was going rapidly downhill. Her mother often times disliked the attention her father was giving her and thus spun a huge story about how spoiling Cecilia would doom her in the long run—her father was convinced by her stories and sadly enough, turned the nurturing aspect to his wife. A year or so after Cecilia was born, her father got a promotion at the Ministry of Magic and he soon got swamped with work, leaving Cecilia in her mother’s claws.

Despite some fun days when her father had work off, Cecilia was left in her mother’s tyrannous rule (of course, Cecilia didn’t understand that anything was wrong). Her mother hired nannies to raise her while she gossiped with other pureblood ladies. Despite not being an immediate part of her daughter’s care, she made sure that anyone who came through the household was as strict as she was (and pureblood, of course). Her mother’s approval was always the final test for any subject—like playing the piano or learning charms. Often times, it took several tries to actually win some sort of approval from her mother—especially since Cecilia isn’t automatically bright, she has to work tenaciously for hours at a time in order to get to the level her mother wants her at.

There happened to be a slip in her mother’s judgment with one of the nannies. Instead of teaching Cecilia history, her nanny pulled out a big book of Greek Mythology and Astronomy. For hours, they just sat together reading the book and Cecilia was absolutely enthralled the stories. They were absolutely ridiculous! The amount of joy they gave Cecilia was unfathomable—and she enjoyed them even more when her nanny explained that some of these stories originated from some wizard interaction with ancient Greeks! She pointed things like how out how Zeus could’ve been a metamorphmagus, which explains being able to turn into a golden bull. The pure fantasy of these stories fascinated Cecilia.

But of course, her mother didn’t approve and the nanny was fired shortly after. However, Cecilia’s enjoyment of the stories didn’t cease there. She bargained with her mother for mythology and astronomy books—and after some not so enjoyable experiences, she got some. This was the case for swimming as well, something that Cecilia had found a love for shortly after the mythology obsession. Cecilia had to sit through several boring classes just to learn things like raising her pinky if she ever drank tea.

Before Cecilia’s obsessions could get too out of hand (which would cause her mother to quickly stamp them out), her Hogwarts letter came in the mail and she was quickly wrapped up in all the shopping and preparations to even take out her books!
-----------------------------------------------------
Family and Growing up.

Mother: Daphne Aster (Maiden name: Chambers) – Pureblood witch born to the Chambers family. She was engaged to Romulus Aster in her teenage years. The Chambers family is not an extremely wealthy pureblood family so marrying her into the Aster family elevated their status. In her years at Hogwarts, she was a Slytherin.
Father: Romulus Aster – Pureblood wizard born into the prosperous Aster family. He was engaged to Daphne Chambers during his school years—his parents set up the marriage counsel because he had taken a fancy to her during the Yule Ball. Romulus did not attend Hogwarts; he studied abroad at Durmstrang due to a disagreement between his father and the Hogwarts Headmaster of his time. This tension was later resolved, which is why Cecilia was able to enroll at Hogwarts.
Siblings: N/A at this time (if anything, they would be an actual player I make later—not an NPC. However, until I can confirm the sibling’s existence, their existence will NEVER be mentioned).
Other?: N/A
Describe Family Life Growing Up:
From the moment she was born, Cecilia was on the path to becoming a respectable pureblooded witch. It was something that her mother always enforced on her. She wasn’t allowed to do a lot of the things that other kids her age could—and she most definitely wasn’t allowed to join in on any “rough-housing” or “rule breaking.” Though her mother was her strictest teacher, it didn’t mean that she didn’t have several intolerable nannies and tutors. And despite the fact that her parents didn’t straight out emphasize that any other bloodline was lesser—they did emphasize that purebloods were supposed to represent the wizarding world (It was a constant excuse as to why Cecilia could not partake in things like Muggle-soccer). And though these values weren’t emphasized, it was an unspoken rule for Cecilia to only socialize with other purebloods while growing up and have interest in only other purebloods. In fact, her parents are already looking for potential pureblood boys to arrange a marriage to.

To clarify, when Cecilia says “parents” she often means just her mother. Her father, though sweet and caring, allows her mother to raise Cecilia the way she sees fit. He was the one who didn’t care that she was sorted into Hufflepuff, not Slytherin (though it could’ve been the fact that he didn’t quite understand, as her mother explained, because he was from Durmstrang). Her father has been the warm, caring figure of her life—and Cecilia always ran to him when upset. Her mother, on the other hand, was extremely strict with her and her father. It’s come to mind that the only reason her mother married her father was because of his family, which was a subject Cecilia would be chastised for inquiring about, so she never did. Her mother also dislikes having visitors from her side of the family and, as Cecilia noticed, she often talks of them badly after they leave.

Despite being meaner than most, her mother was the person she always sought approval from. However, Cecilia rarely earns that approval (and in fact, there’s been a tension between her and her mother for being sorted into Hufflepuff). Hogwarts is the first time that Cecilia hasn’t been constantly under her mother’s scrupulous eyes—which is unnerving and relaxing at the same time.
