"Wow." Crys said simply. "All I know is that one." Crys jerked his head to the North Star. "It's above the North Pole...called...Pole...Polaris...? Yea! Polaris!" Crys grinned widely up at Aodh, pleased with himself.

"That's part of the little dipper, or ursa minor, or the little bear." Aodh rolled his eyes. Don't ask him why the humans had to give the thing three names.

Crys shook his head. "Humans are so bizaaaarre." He didn't get them sometimes. Shaking his head to clear it, Crys decided he didn't care about learning at the moment and just laid down next to Aodh, resting his head on Aodh's arm after a moment of hesitation. He looked up at the sky still, but he could feel the blood in his head rush to his cheeks. He felt very silly, but he liked it.

"Very bizarre," Aodh agreed.
Aodh draped a wing of Crys. It was cooler this high up, even during the day, and it was only going to get colder, now that it was night. Aodh, being a 'daeva, had his flames, but Crys didn't have any such protection from the cold, so Aodh would share some of his warmth instead.

Crys smiled to himself and nestled closer but was appropriately wary of the flames, not letting them touch his fur.
Crys was happy like this. Warm, with Aodh, looking up at the gazillions and gazillions of stars.

Aodh started to drift off into a half-sleep, relaxed at the top of the mountain, feeling the presence of Crys against his side.
"G'night," Aodh yawned, and shifted just slightly, to get comfortable to go to sleep.

"Heeeey," Crys whined, nudging him with the tip of his nose. "You can't go to sleep yet, we haven't looked at the stars long enough! Plus, plus it's no fun if you just sleep through it, c'moonnn, please?" Crys gave him the most adorable pouting face he could manage, nudging his new friend again.
"Tell me more about the stars and stuff! That'll keep you awake, right?"

"What about them?" Aodh really didn't know what else to say about the stars. He'd pointed out their names, and the constellations, and that was about all there was to them, really.

"Umm...um...well, don't the humans have stories that went along with 'em? Ones that were about by their Higher Beings? Like...uh...like Pegasus! Tell me Pegasus' story," Crys implored, looking up at his great friend pleadingly. "I wanna know,"

"Humans have funny stories about their higher beings, 'cause they say their higher beings are like humans, but except with powers. Like Zeus, who was the leader of the human's higher beings, was always using his powers to cheat on his wife, Hera." He frowned for a minute, trying to concentrate, before apparently determining that whatever he'd come up with was right. "He turned a woman he was cheating on his wife with into a goose once, to hide her from Hera."

"Well...they don't sound like very good higher beings." Crys said, blinking slowly. Jeeze, humans were bad. Who would want to worship someone like that? A goose? Really?
"But what about Pegasus? Did he cheat on his wife too?"

"Nope. Pegasus was a white horse with wings. Well, his brother was human." Aodh shrugged--he had long ago given up even questioning these things. "They were both born when Perseus--he's a hero--killed Medusa--she's a monster, so she had to be slayed--and her blood hit the water, so Medusa's their mother, and Poseidon--he's the higher being of water and earthquakes," again Aodh shrugged, not getting it, but beyond questioning, "is their father.
"Anyway, then Perseus and Pegasus teamed up, and then they did lots more heroic things. Like there was a sea monster terrorizing this one place, and they went and killed it. And saved the chick who the people were going to sacrifice to the monster to stop it, too, and that's how Perseus ended up married to Andromeda.
"Then a different hero captured Pegasus, B...something with a B. Bob," Aodh decided--it was a really common name, so obviously the humans were naming their kits after the great hero, "and then they defeated the chimera, which was a really freaky monster, and was made of a lion and a goat and a snake all mashed together.
"And then Bob decided he wanted to join the higher beings where they lived on top of this mountain, so he made Pegasus carry him up there, but Bob fell off, but Pegasus made it there okay, and then the higher beings decide to turn Pegasus into a bunch of stars 'cause of all the great stuff he'd done."

"Bob." Crys repeated, his eyes the size of golfballs. "So...he was a blood-water-wing-y horse...Is that how 'Daeva's got started?" Of course, that would be the thing that he thought of.
"So he's up in the sky 'cause some guy fell off his back? Those human Higher Beings are weird. And how does a horse have a human brother? That doesn't make sense." Crys wrinkled his nose, not pleased. "But so there was a horsey hero and they put him in the sky anyways even though his hero buddy fell off his back? Was it Pegasus' fault or Perse...Percy's? 'Cause I guess that matters."
Crys looked up a the sky again, looking puzzled. "The humans are so bizarre. Why did the lady hafta be chained to a rock? Did she get up in the sky too?"

"No. Haven't heard anything about how 'daevas got started." Which was weird, considering how many 'daeva siblings he had--he was sure Mom would be on that sort of thing by now. But she wasn't. And Mom's logic, like that of the human's, was something Aodh had long ago given up on questioning.
"I don't know why he has a human brother. Because he just does." Aodh shrugged yet again. "It was the higher beings' fault, 'cause they didn't want Bob to come join them, so they sent a gnat to bite Pegasus, and that's why he threw Bob off.
"Perseus and Andromeda are both in the sky, yeah. She had to be chained to a rock so the evil sea monster could eat her."

"That...is so weird. How come a gnat bite made the flying horsey go crazy? That is way too weird." Crys shook his head once again at the too-weird humans.
"Howcome the evil seamonster had to eat her? Couldn't it settle for shrimp or whatever evil seamonsters eat? Or do they eat human kits usually?"
Crys had entirely too many questions for his own good.
