a lovely point.

alas myspace, tagged, and those other social sites are far more suggestive than this site could ever be.

cant even post a decent set of breasts in your siggy without red tape and gaia ninjas trying to ban you. u__u

of course i wouldnt think of doing anything like that to begin with.

I'll let my kids in Gaia when they get to be 14-15 and I've had the sex talk with them already.

Hmm, If i had children, I dont think I could allow them onto this site unless they were guided only through their interests and not fall under the pressures that exist here already. Thankfully I do no have children and therefore, am exempt from such limits to pile on them. To those who do, keep a good eye on them and be sure to browse the past pages if they are in the same household as a good security measure 3nodding

I wouldn't be here if my kids weren't on Gaia. My daughter was the one who encouraged me to join.

Likewise for me. Both my kids invited me here. This is one way I can keep in touch with my out-of-state daughter, several times a week!

And yes, I agree about Alruna's Rose and Sundae's Treats ... just a little too much for PG-13 if you ask me.

Both my kids have been members for a while and my daughter got me to join.

*sighs* People who complain about the items have apparently lost sight of the fact that it's a cartoon-type avatar wearing them. It's not a real person... But yes, if I had children, I would allow them on Gaia. I helped my brother set up an account here, and my mother is also here.

Of course I would let my child, providing that they were 13 years old or older, on to the site. It is a fun, highly interactive site where I have met a lot of nice people. I have been on since I have been sixteen and have enjoyed every second of it.

I would make sure that my children had a good talking to before hand. Mostly about how to behave and who NOT to talk to, and how to protect their identities.

yes i would only under the condition that i have there password and have had "the talk" with them about meeting people online...i'm super effin nosey, so i think my kids wouldn't be able to get away with anything on the computer...even my hubby has a hard time hiding things from me online. hahah.. whee

well... I would, but... only after I've been able to give them "The Talk". I would want my child to learn about sex from me, not from other kids on some website.

I would trust them to make the right choices after that. Unless they broke the rules, then I might have to enforce them by watching their history a bit closer.

That seems reasonable to me. *shrug* Of course, that's the rules I had when I started poking around on the internet. I only ever broke them once.

I let my oldest son (6 yrs.) open an account during the easter event because he had so much fun helping me find all those pesky eggs. He can't read yet so I don't have to worry about what he may read in forums but he knows he's only allowed to go to areas I've said are okay. He likes to feed his fish and dress up his avatar and he loves playing zomg. He's almost as far as I am.

Our kids are a lot less sheltered than other kids in the family and I think the fact that they watch more anime than regular cartoons has a lot to do with that. One of my oldest's favorite movies is Grave of the Fireflies and my 3 year old loves all things zombie (I'll admit, he's a little on the weird side). That being said I do limit their exposure to extreme violence, sex, and drug use. I wouldn't want my son to have alruna's rose on his avi nor would I want him to be able to make it pregnant but I'm not opposed to the items being on the site. I agree with whoever said that they are more offended by the smoking/drinking items.

When my daughter is older (she is currently 4) I wouldn't have a problem letting her join as long as it was something that interested her.

I have two daughters that is on Gaia. That is the main reason why I joined, even though I don't care for some of the language and outfit ( seems to grown up for kids).

i don't know. when all the kids were home, i would have had to say no. but, my nieces and nephew had a few issues with the rudeness and other things that i find on here a lot. let them go online at school where they don't even have long enough to get into serious trouble. occupy them with other things that have nothing to do with it. they didn't miss it (ok, so i'm old enough to remember a childhood without all that s**t, and to think it was ok).
my youngest was already online at her friends' houses before we had internet. she was the one who got me started on gaia, like a lot of you. she's 16 now, though, and our 'the talk' has gone far beyond how not to get pregnant - how to keep out of all situations that could bring trouble (and, no, you can't get yourself into trouble so you can torture and maim them stressed ). and these talks go on any time the subject comes up, as a discussion, just because they're too curious for their own good. so, they know how to handle harassing, all-out rudeness, prejudice, cyber, and stalkers, and are learning more about how to avoid hackers.
i can say that after i've seen the way they handle real life situations that at this point i don't have a problem with them being in gaia. what the repercussions are going to be after they've been here - i'll get back to you on that.

If I had kids then yeah I would let them on Gaia, as far as the items being too explicit I don't think they are, it's the world we live in and I often hear people whining that items like the Alruna's rose or that um Stripper pole item shouldn't be on Gaia but in the end it's just for fun so no need to make a big deal out of it.
