Fine Day for a Picnic

Risa and Miles are invited to a picnic.
PostPosted: Mon Jun 22, 2009 9:23 pm

Quote:
Risa was getting everything ready. She'd put the popcorn over the fireplace, and had put the dvd in. (It was a wonder to her son that she knew how to use it--she seemed pretty old fashioned.)

"So Matthias is coming over?" He asked, with a knowing smile. "I look forward to meeting him again." He said. Though, again was hardly the term. Miles had seen Matth, it was true. They had never really spoken.
"What movie are we going to be watching?" He asked.

"Oh.. I was thinking a family movie--because you know.. He has kids." Miles shook his head at his mother.

"I'll keep Aife and Koloro busy. You two watch whatever you like."
This was already not boding well. Koloro was screaming, and Aife was crying. Joy. Matthias sighed, making his way up towards the house. He hoped they wouldn't do this during the entirety of their visit.

Aife was clinging to her father, burrying her face in his shoulder as she tried to shield her ears with chubby hands. Brother was loud!

Koloro was screaming, scared. There were so many new people, and this was a new place, and...and...and he wanted to go home!

Miles opened the door. "Hi, Mr. Matthias." He said brightly, raising his voice so the fae could hear him over the screaming of the two children. Joshua stuck his head out.

"Hi Kole!" he said with a smile. "Mr. Matth, I'll take care of him while you guys watch the movie, alright?" He asked. "He likes me." He said proudly, course he would. He put his arms out to recieve the child.

Miles looked to his cousin, frowned, and then looked to Aife. "Hi baby." He said, trying to imitate what his older cousin had done with Kole. "Want to play with me? I have toys."

Matthias smiled lightly. "Hello, Miles." he greeted, nodding once.

Koloro shut up, immediatly turning into smiley-happy baby as he babbled, reaching out for Josh. It was nice boy again! "T'pid f'lers!" he greeted, giggling.

Aife was never as happy as her brother. Silver eyes looked up at the boy, peeking shyly at him. "T....toys." she murmured, mimicking him. Toys.....that was the term Orita used to describe her teddy bears and dolls.

Joshua took Kole, and giggled slightly. "Yeah, that's right." He agreed. "Stupid flowers." He smiled at Matthias innocently. "Mom sent me here to make sure your date goes well." He told him. "So don't mess up--or I'll get in trouble." He said.

"Miles?" Risa had gotten up from the couch. "Is Matth here?" She walked over to the door. "Nice to see you again, Matth." She said brightly. "Why don't you let the boys take the babies? Joshua's especially good with them." She ruffled her nephew's hair.

Miles offered to take Aife. "Come on," He told the golden haired baby. "I have some dolls you might like. I'll give them to you--Mom got them for me before I was born." He frowned slightly, and whispered. "She thought I was gonna be a girl."

Matthias shook his head, pink tinging his cheeks. "It's not a..." he trailed off as Risa came to the door. "It is nice to see you too, Risa." he said, bowing slightly. He then nodded, handing off the babies carefully to the children.

Koloro clapped his hands, laughing. He then proceeded to his usual greeting: the nomming of the shirt. Josh's shirts generally tasted different than Daddy's....he could probably pick Josh out of a crowd just by shirt smell.

Aife caught the word 'dolls', but that was about it. She looked a little worried, a small sound coming from her throat. Was Orita leaving her? She didn't want to be left? Had she been bad? Was he throwing her away? She tried to be good, really, she did.... A scared sniffle came from the girl.

Joshua just gave Matthias a knowing smile, before turning and taking Kole to Mile's room. He'd succeeded in making the man blush, that meant it was a date, obviously. He grinned. He knew just what to do--but he wouldn't carry out his plan until later. Oh, he looked forward to it.

Miles hugged Aife gently. "It's okay." He said. "He's not going to leave you." He muttered, trying to cheer the infant up. "He'll be right here, and when we're done playing with toys--I'll give you some."

Risa looked from Joshua's back to Matth's face, and smiled. "You're blushing." She said. "Josh giving you a bad time?" She asked. "He's been doing that ever since the bonfire. I think Thali puts him up to it."

Koloro eyes wandered around, looking at all the new things in the new place. It was all so...new. He babbled, reaching out for random things along the way. Looks like it won't be too hard to keep him distracted.

Aife didn't calm down till Matthias stepped closer to the house. That meant he wasn't leaving her...yet. She leaned against the older boy, tiny fists rubbing at her eyes to dry the tears.

Matthias shook his head. "I'm not blushing." he stated calmly, regaining his composure. "And yes, he was....but most children are apt to do as such. And I would not doubt that. Not in the least."

Joshua smiled at Kole, and set the baby down. He set a ball in front of him, and gently rolled it to the younger boy. "See?" He asked. "This is how we play ball inside--outside we can bounce it. But not until you're bigger." He shook a finger at Kole, as if the baby would break this rule.

Miles hugged the infant gently. "It's okay, Aife." He said, taking her into the room. "Your Daddy's not going to leave you." He said, trying to comfort her. He offered her a small basket of dolls. "Here, we'll play with these." He said.

Risa gave the fae a knowing smile. "Alright, it was my imagination." She said, easily agreeing with him. "You want to watch a movie? Or something else?" She asked.

Koloro looked at the ball, stopping it with his hands. He inspected it a moment before giving it an experimental push. He then bleated; oh my gosh, the round thing was moving! He hadn't expected that.

Aife looked up at the boy questionly, eyes shiny with unshed tears. She still wasn't sure about him. She then looked to the dolls, picking one up cautiously. He'd offered them, so she was allowed to play with them, right? She picked on up, looking at it curiously.

Matthias frowned; now she was lying. He sighed, letting it drop. "It is your house, there for your choice of activities." he said calmly.

Joshua giggled at the sound Kole'd made. He'd never heard a baby make that kind of sound before--did all babies make that sound? If they did, how come his sisters never did? He rolled the ball gently back to him.

Miles smiled at Aife, and handed her another doll. "This one looks like you, kinda." He said. It was blonde and tan. "Maybe you'll look like her when you're bigger--except for your eyes and your wing."

Risa looked to Matth, and smiled. "But you're the guest, that means you get to pick." She teased. "If you like--we can watch a movie, I already made the popcorn." She pointed to the fire. "Or, we can sit and talk--or play game. Anything really, it's up to you."

Kole caught it, giggling. It was almost funny how easily amused he was. He hit at it, sending it off to the side a bit. He made a sound and grabby hands as it rolled; hey! You were supposed to go the other way!

Aife looked at the dolly he handed her, giving it an experimental pat. She caught the words you and eyes, but the rest was just a garbled mess as far as she was concerned. She looked closely; the dolly didn't have her eyes! What was the boy talking about?

Matthias shifted, not sure. "A movie will be fine, since you've already gone through the trouble of making popcorn." he said, nodding his head once. "Your pick of film, though....I'm not too familiar with the newer picture shows."

Joshua went and got the ball, and rolled it to Kole. "You're good at this game." He complimented, rolling the ball back to the baby. He liked playing with Kole! He was more fun than Sammi or Reiya. This made Josh wish he had a baby brother. Vinny wasn't much fun anymore, he got a little too upset if you made fun of him nowdays.

Miles took a teddy bear from the basket. "Hi, I'm Mr. Teddy." He said, moving the teddy bear with his hands. He wasn't very good at this--he knew he'd never be a puppetmaster.

Risa nodded at Matth, before going to the VCR. "Oh, there's already a movie in there. Want to watch that?" She asked, looking to Matth. "Miles must have picked one out for us."

Kole grinned as the ball came back to him, proceeding to hug it. Unfortunately, the ball rolled forwards, and he went sprawling across the floor. He then scuttled back away from it, eyes wide. The ball attacked him!

Aife blinked, silver eyes regarding the boy. What in Iirntaire's name was he doing? She tilted her head, not sure what to make of it.

Matthias shrugged. "Sure. It makes no difference to me." he said, offering a polite smile before sitting himself on the couch. This would prove to be most interesting....

Joshua sighed, and picked up the baby. "You okay?" He asked. "Did the ball hurt you?" That mean ball, scaring the poor baby. The older boy gave it a glare so it'd know it was angry with it--if the ball'd had eyes.

Miles frowned slightly, and handed the baby the teddy bear. "Here." He offered, with a small smile. "You be the bear then."

Risa hit play, and then went to get a bowl of popcorn she and Matth to share. She eventually sat on the couch next to him. "Popcorn?" She asked. When she realized what movie she'd put in, she went pale. Miles knew she hated spiders! Why'd he pick this one? She didn't even know why she owned -this- one. Probably one of the Christmas gifts she'd gotten from Thali.

Kole sniffled; how could his new round friend do this to him? He clung to the older boy; he'd protect him!

Aife blinked as she was handed the teddy. She then shrugged, then began babbling, moving the doll and the bear. The babbling didn't seem so much as babbling as it did a foreign language.

Matthias nodded, taking a couple pieces. His eyes widened a bit. "How'd you get it in color?" he asked, absolutely amazed. He'd never seen a film in color before! He then looked to her, blinking. "Are you alright?" he asked, noticing her paleness.

Joshua hugged the baby gently. "It's alright." He said, rocking Kole a bit, like he'd seen his mother do with an upset Sammi. That is, when she wasn't getting burnt. "I'm sorry it hurt you."

Miles blinked. "You're not--hey, that sounds like a language." He said, pausing. "But it's none of the ones I've heard before." He commented, as if to himself. He held up another doll, and started to move it, as if it were walking towards Aife.

Risa would have been amused at his amazement, if she hadn't been so frightened of the spiders on screen. "I'm f-fine." She managed, giving him a small, though forced, smile. "Oh--and they come in color now, they have for a while." She explained.

Koloro seemed to calm down a bit, the unshed tears dying down and diminishing the risk of overflowing. "Sorry..." he repeated, catching onto one of the words.

Aife made the teddy wave it's hand and, very slowly and carefully, made it greet the doll. "Nindai." she greeted, glancing up at Miles. He understood, right?

Matthias looked a bit embarrassed at his lack of modern knowledge. "I...I did not know that." he stated softly before looking to the screen. It was...interesting, to say the least.

Joshua smiled, glad that the baby had seemed to calm down. "Here." He said, setting the baby down. He handed Kole a teddy bear, as there seemed to be several in the room. "It won't hurt you, promise."

Miles blinked. Maybe that was her way of saying hello? He had his doll wave back. "Hi." He tried. Maybe he would learn her language someday.

Risa's hand was slowly making it's way to Matth's. Another spider came on screen, and devored someone. She took hold of his, and clasped it tightly. She didn't seem to notice what she was doing--her eyes were fixed on the tv.

Kole hugged the teddy; he knew what this was. A grin spread across his face, and he proceeded to nom the bear. A smile was shot towards the older boy.

Aife concentrated a moment. "Nindai.....hi?" she asked slowly, mumbling the words. Did the mean the same thing? Or was he just using baby talk with her?

Matthias blinked as his hand was suddenly clutched. He looked down at it; not sure what to do. She seemed scared, for some reason. Didn't she know that it was just a movie?

Joshua looked relieved, and decided that it was safe for him to go get Ellie. He walked into the green toddler's room, took her out of her crib, and set her on the floor. He grinned. "You know what to do." He muttered. The infant nodded, and started to crawl in the direction of the living room.
"Right." Miles said with a nod. "Nindai means hi." He was just guessing, he thought that was what it meant.

Risa tore her eyes from the tv screen, and blushed. "Matth, I'm so sorry!" She said. "Spiders have always scared me--ever since my sister... she's a witch you know...spi...tried to eat me..." She sighed, and folded her hands in her lap, as if to make sure that didn't happen again.

Koloro blinked as the boy left, but luckily, didn't get upset. Instead, he happily chewed on the bear, oblivious to the plotting around him.

Aife smiled slightly, waving. "Nindai." she said, greeting Miles. This was proving to be rather....interesting.

Matthias was a pale shade of pink. "Oh, well....it's okay..." he muttered, trying to regain his composure. "If you want, we can change films. I will not mind." he patted her, trying to cheer her up.

Ellie reached the living room, and crawled over to Matth's leg. She used it to help her stand up. "'Ug?" She asked. She was doing just what her older cousin had told her to do.

Joshua grinned as he watched, then he entered Miles' room. "Hi Kole." He greeted the baby. "Still playing with Teddy?"

Miles smiled, and waved back. "Hi." He said. At least he knew one word in her language, whichever that was.

Risa gave a relieved sigh, but then seemed to think about it. "If you're enjoying it, I'm fine." She said, taking a handful of popcorn. She'd noticed his blush, and was smiling to herself about it. He must like her, at least a little bit, if he was blushing.

Matthias blinked, looking down at the infant. "Oh, um....sure." he said, picking the green infant up and giving her a hug. He then looked to Risa, unaware of his blushing. "Are you sure? I have no problem with changing films."

Koloro looked up, grinning at the nickname. He then held out the chewed-on bear to Josh, offering it to him to play with. After all, sharing was caring, right?

Aife giggled, clapping her hands. This learning stuff was kind of fun. "Hi." she repeating, her soft tone sounding almost happy.

Ellie smiled, and hugged the adult as best as she could. She leaned against his chest, and muttered something that sounded remotely like, "Daddy."

Joshua shook his head at Kole. "You keep it." He said. He wasn't been generous in the least, he didn't want a slimed on teddy bear. He picked up a bunny plushie, and started moving it around as if it were dancing.
Miles smiled at Aife. "Yeah, hi." He said, waving to demonstrate.

Matthias blinked. Daddy? Oh no, no no no.... "Matthias." he corrected, his tone as gentle as he could manage. He patted the little girl's back, feeling more than a little awkward.

Koloro grinned, laughing and clapping at the dancing bunny as if it were the most amazing thing he'd ever laid eyes on. Again, he was almost as easily entertained as he was scared.

Ellie frowned at the adult. "Daddy." She insisted. "Futuwe Daddy." She whispered, so her mother couldn't hear here. "Luv ooo, Daddy." She looked to Risa, who was back to being pale. It wasn't going as planned, yet then. She pressed her lips to Matth's ears. "She luv you, Maff."

The poor fae didn't seem to have heard Matth's comment about changing films. She kept looking over to him, and smiling secretively, however pale she was.

Josh was pleased that he could entertain Kole so easily. How he'd love an younger brother. Maybe that was what he'd ask Santa Claus for this year.

Matthias turned pale, almost the color of paper. Love? Oh no. He was NOT going down this road. Nope. No way, no how. The look on his face was a mix of fear and shock which, to those who didn't know him that well, could have been attributed to the movie. His eyes were locked, staring straight ahead.

Risa gave Matth a concerned look, before taking his hand. "You okay?" She asked gently, before going to turn off the tv. "If the movie's frightening--we can do something else." She suggested. She didn't think it was the movie though.. She looked down to Ellie and groaned.

"Not you again." She muttered, before taking the baby into her arms. "What did you say this time?"

Matthias looked at her, blushing a pale shade of pink. "I'm fine." he said, forcing his tone to its usual calmness. "The movie was fine, though if you wish to switch activities, I shalln't mind." He fell silent as she took the baby, shifting uncomfortably.

Risa sat next to him. "Was she being mean again?" She asked, looking at her daughter. "I don't know where she comes up with these ideas..." She looked down the hall and spotted a certain dark haired child. Her eyes narrowed. "Joshua..." She started, folding her arms.

"You guys aren't moving fast enough!" The boy complained, before racing back into Miles' room. Yikes, that'd been close.

Matthias shook his head. "No, she wasn't...." he said, being honest. Technically, nothing the infant had said anything that could be considered mean....but it was a bit awkward.

He then widened his eyes at Josh; just what was that supposed to mean?

Risa grumbled for a moment, before looking at Ellie. "Thali's put them up to this." She complained. "They say fae are too slow at dating--I know, this isn't a date--but yeah.. Elves are hasty, I suppose. And Joshua's worse." She paused, and seemed to be thinking.

"If only to humor them, would you like to go somewhere with me? Like.. On a date?" She asked.

Matthias just sighed as he listened to her explaination. "I believe it has to do with individuals, not the entire species." he said, shrugging. He then froze. Wait....was she asking him out. He fell silent, not sure how to respond. Crap, he was in neck-deep and sinking fast, wasn't he?

"Probably." Risa responded, before pausing awkwardly at his silence. "You know--just to make them leave us alone. Just a one time thing, if you like.." She shrugged. Of course she didn't want it to be a one time thing, but she could never know with Matth.

Color tinted the fae's cheeks, much to his chagrin. "I....I suppose we could." he said, looking away in an attempt to hide his involuntary blushing. What was he getting himself into?!? Now, not only was he neck-deep, but now he was wearing concrete shoes.

Risa gave him a bright smile, resisting the urge to jump up and down. He'd said it was okay, and he'd blushed. That obviously meant he didn't want it to be a one time thing either! He must have liked her, even a little bit.
"Okay." She said, still smiling. "When?" She paused, and decided to be mean. "Matth, you have something on your face." She said, putting her fingers where the blush was. Oh, what the heck. She planted a kiss on his cheek, before turning away and blushing.

Again, he was struck speechless. Did....did she just kiss him?!? The blush deepened, though his face was still blank. Oh hell, he was sunk, dammit. "U....um.....you may pick the day and time...." he muttered quietly, staring at the floor.

This time, Risa had been expecting his silence. She turned back to smile at him, still blushing. "How about tomorrow night, at the park? There's supposed to be a good view of the stars on the hill there--" She grinned at him. "You know, it doesn't have to be a one time thing." She started
Matthias took a deep, calming breath. "That would be acceptable." he said, nodding. He fell silent again; not only was he under, but now he was getting dragged further. Great. He shifted, deciding that no answer was the best answer.

"Sounds good." Risa said with a smile and a nod. Stars, that was a romantic date. She liked it. Matthias could pretend all he liked--but she knew he liked her. He wouldn't have blushed so much if he didn't. "And maybe we could go to dinner beforehand." She suggested.

Matthias nodded once. "As you wish." he said softly. He fidgeted, feeling rather uncomfortable and awkward. How was he gonna get himself out of this mess?

Quote:
The night sky was perfect for viewing the stars, and Risa was grateful for it. She'd spread out a blanket on the cool grass for viewing, and was sitting on it cross legged. She was waiting for someone. A someone that whenever she thought of him, it made her smile. Of course, that wasn't saying much. There were very few things that didn't make Risa smile.

Especially on this night. She was in an especially good mood. She'd been waiting for this a long time. A date. Finally. And she was determined to make it a good one. One that she would remember forever.

Well, it'd definitely be a night she'd never forget. Matthias made his way towards Risa, dressed as casually as he could manage; a black dress shirt with the sleeves rolled up and black denim jeans. "Good evening." He said, bowing and looking like something from some B-rated vampire film.

He looked a bit nervous; maybe it was because this was the first date he'd had in a while.

Or maybe it was the fact that he knew he was about to utterly crush someone's heart.

Risa looked up at Matth and smiled. "Evening, Matth." She greeted. "How are you?" She asked, sounding geniunely curious. She wondered why he looked nervous. Maybe he was worried about the date?

"I thought we could have dinner afterward." She said, nodding to herself. "The stars are beautiful tonight, aren't they?" She'd gone back to looking at the sky.

"I am fine." Matthias said, slipping into a sittign position next to Risa. That was a total lie; he was far from fine. But, he had to toughen up and be a strong little soldier. He made no comment on dinner, instead, he turned his gaze to the vast expanse of sky and stars. "It is beautiful." he agreed, nodding. "But not..." he cut himself off, shaking his head.

Risa gave Matthias a bright smile. "I'm glad to hear you're doing well." She said, as formally as she could manage. Her dark haired friend seemed to be in a tense mood. She paused, keeping her eyes on the stars.

"But not what?" She asked.

Matthias blushed, looking away. "It's.....it's nothing. Forget I said anything, Risa." he said, his voice soft and quiet. He could not believe he almost slipped up. He sighed, running a hand through his hair; a nervous habit.

Risa blinked in surprise. "Oh, alright." She said, before realizing he really didn't have to finish that sentence. It was a cheesy line used by guys often enough.

She smiled, and shrugged. "Do you want some fruit?" She offered a bowl of oranges, apples, and grapes. "I thought we might get hungry before dinner, so.." She paused to take a bite of an apple.

Matthias shook his head. "No....no thank you. I...I do not have much of an appetite at the moment." he said, sighing. He just couldn't break it to her now that there would be no dinner....and she seemed so happy. He really didn't want to be the one to wipe that beautiful smile away.

"Oh.." Was all Risa could say, before she turned her focus back to the stars. "A shooting star!" She exclaimed, pointing. She closed her eyes for a moment. "Matth, did you make a wish?" She asked. "Don't tell me! It won't come true if you do."

Mathias blinked, looking up. He closed his eyes for the briefest of moments, forming a wish before he could even think about it. He wanted her to find someone, someone who'd take care of her properly....someone who'd make her happy. He then nodded, indicating that he'd indeed made a wish.

Risa smiled brightly. "I'll give you a hint to mine." She said. "It's about you." She said. "Well, for you." She amended. "You sure you don't want any fruit? I don't know where we'll be going to dinner. You want to pick the place?"

Matthias sighed. "Risa...." He took a deep breath. Well, it was now or never. He pushed his guilt aside before speaking again. "Risa...I do not think we will be having dinner. I....I do not think we should see each other anymore. It...it is in your best interest. Risa....I'm sorry."

Almost instantly, Risa's smile faded. She looked like she didn't believe what she was hearing. Miles had said... Miles was never wrong! "Oh..." She managed. "Alright. I understand." If Matthias was familar with women, especially fae, he would have known that this was often called the 'Indifferent' stage.

She gave him a forced smile. "But we can still be friends, right?"

Matthias felt and instant pang, no....stab, of guilt. "As much as I'd like that...I don't think that'd be wise." he said softly. No, not wise at all....he'd be too tempted. Best to just sever all ties; crush her and make sure she'd never want to see him again. "Arisa....I'm sorry. I shouldn't have let it go this far....."

There were no words for the way Risa felt. He didn't even want to be friends? He must hate her. The poor fae had thought they had an equal attraction--and now...

"Oh...." She said, looking at her friend--no, he wasn't her friend. He was just an aqquaintance now. That was what he wanted, wasn't it? It would make him happy. She forced the barest hint of a smile, all she could manage. "If it makes you happy, Matth."

"It...." Makes me want to rip my own heart out to make it stop. Makes me want to disappear. "It does." He looked away, using his hair to block his face from view; a veil separating himself from the female. Make him happy? What a laugh. Maybe....maybe one day she'd see what a favor he was paying her. Maybe she'd see it was for the best.

Of course, even if she did, that wouldn't make him feel any better.

If Risa had only been able to convince herself that it would make Matth happy--then she could have been happy too. She had always been like that. She was... a happy person. In the literal sense.

But she couldn't help it now. A single tear fell down her cheek, followed by several others. She looked away, and sniffled. Her wish had been wasted. It hadn't come true at all. This wasn't happiness.

Matthias looked over, guilt rolling like the ocean waves, its under-tow dragging him out and drowning him. "Risa...please don't cry..." he said softly, his hand moving to lightly brush away her tears with his thumb, the rest of his hand resting on her cheek. He then leaned forward, hugging her and leaving a light, barely-there kiss on her forehead. "Risa....I'm so sorry."

Oh sure, now he kisses her. Risa finally knew the meaning of a 'goodbye kiss'. She sniffled, and looked away. "I'm not crying." She said, though the sound of her voice would have given her away if her tears hadn't. She forced herself to look at him, eyes red from crying.

"Tell me honestly, Matthias." She said. "Do you really hate me so much that you never want to see me again? Or are you protecting me from something?"

Matthias let his hand drop, his obsidian eyes focusing on the ground. Well, she asked a good question. "Risa.....it's for your own good." he said softly, not giving her an answer one way or the other. After all, would she really believe him, anyways?

What was that supposed to mean? Risa assumed he was protecting her, if only because she prefered that to his hating her. After all, he wouldn't have accepted her invitation to go on a date if he hated her, right?

"If you're protecting me.." She started. "I'd much rather have you as my friend.. than not." She gave another sniffle. "But if you hate me... I wouldn't mind being your aqquaintance."

Matthias sighed. "Risa....it's best if we don't see each other anymore." He took a deep, steadying breath. "Best if you just pretend you never met me." His heart clenched with each syllable, but he knew it had to be done.

Risa just stared at him for a moment. "Alright." She said, with a frown. "I'll do my best to avoid you." Though, how could she? When she was friends with Stasia, and Thali? And Joshua, he was going to be Matth's student.

"I can't give you any promises--and I won't pretend I never met you. Meeting you--that was one of the best things that's ever happened to me. I won't pretend that didn't happen." She turned away, and her brave face was gone. Another set of tears slipped down her face.

Matthias reached over, gently and carefully brushing the tears away. "Risa....don't cry." he said, guilt rising up again. He then stood up, an almost silent sigh escaping his slightly-parted lips. "I should be going now." he said quietly. *Before I cause you even more damage...* was his silent addendum.

Miles stared at his mother for a moment. The fae looked horrible, dark rings around her eyes as if she hadn't been able to sleep. Her hair had been left unbrushed, as if she hadn't been bothered to look neat. Her eyes were red from crying. You get the picture, it wasn't a pretty sight.

"I told you he'd hurt you." Miles said, but he embraced her to soften his blunt words. "Though, what I said before...It still stands." The little rook-like oracle muttered. If Matthias would fight fate, he would fight back. He gave Risa a reassuring smile, and was relieved when she returned it.

No matter how hard Matthias tried to avoid destiny... It would catch up to him. Whatever the fae was hiding from, it would find him.

"Watch, Mom." The oracle said, looking up at Risa. "Though the sorrow lasts for the night, joy comes with the morning."

"But..." Risa started, and faltered. She couldn't fight her own wisdom.

"To save a life you have to lose it, Mom." Miles said. Yes, he was intentionally using the fae's wisdom against her. It was the best he could do--he couldn't say what he thought of Matth, that would have made her feel worse.

The boy was glad when he saw a smile on his mother's face. Now she was recognizable as his mother.

"I know it hurts now." Miles started. "But I promise. You'll be happy soon."

"Thali, promise me you won't hurt him." Risa said. The two had been arguing; the elf was determined to 'speak' with Matthias. The fae had known her friend long enough to know that the elf intended to do much more than talk.

"I won't hurt him." Thali muttered, though she knew Risa had seen the crossed fingers behind her back. "Much." Risa's ears twitched. She was honored that the princess valued their friendship so much--but still.

"Don't hurt him." The fae insisted. Thali gave a sigh and rolled her eyes.

"He hurt you." The elf pointed out. In her opinion, Matthias deserved it. Anyone who could hurt a seelie like he had--he deserved every pain the world could give him. And more.

Risa sighed. "Don't hurt him." She repeated. "From what Miles has said..." She was interupted.

"Do you think I care what Miles has said?" Thali asked, with a frown. "Matthias hurt you."

Risa frowned at her old friend, Thali had always been fiercely loyal and protective.

"Miles said Matthias is hurting just as much." The fae muttered.

For a moment, Thali's eyes widened. Then they flashed angrily. "Then he's an idiot." She said.

"No." Risa corrected. "He's afraid. Of what, I don't know. Something to do with me, I think." She sighed. "Why else would he want to sever all ties?"

Thali's lips twitched. "Afraid? Hm..." She paused, and her eyes veered from side to side, as they often did when she was planning something.

The elf suddenly smiled. It wasn't a warm smile, it was more of a 'Ha, Matth's trapped' smile. "You want to know why he's afraid?" She asked.

Risa blinked at her friend, and nodded.

"He's in love." Thali said. "He's afraid of falling for you and--"

She was interupted by Miles. "It's not that." The boy said. "He's already fallen. He's sunk. He's afraid of hurting her."

Thali frowned, there went her theory of confused true love. But maybe, maybe this was even better. "If he didn't want to hurt her, why did he?" She asked.

Miles shrugged. "Protection?" He suggested.

If it hadn't been a serious situation, Risa would have been amused by the fiery tempered elf before her. Thali had her hands on her hips, and was looking especially ill tempered. The fae couldn't help it, a crooked smile spread across her face.

"Yes, Princess?" She asked lightly.

The fae's tone seemed to irritate Thali further. "How can you always be so cheerful?" The elf demanded. "You were just dumped, for Bob's Sake!"

Risa shook her head at her friend. "It's in my blood." She explained. "As well as in yours. How do you keep smiling when Davian's being held captive?"

Thali frowned at that. "Hope." She muttered.

Risa nodded, and gave her long time friend a reassuring smile. "That's right. We've got hope."

"But..." Thali started, though she faltered. She sat on the floor, feeling a story coming on. She hadn't done this since she was young--Risa had told stories often when she was a child.

The fae settled herself on the couch. "Do you know the story of Pandora's box, Princess?" Risa asked, remembering when she'd given Thali the Greek myths when the elf had been a toddler. It'd been a way to keep the child busy, and out of trouble.

"Well, Pandora was the first woman to be given gifts from all the gods." Risa explained, and then went on to continue as she noticed the elf's mouth opening to say something. "Last of all, Hermes gave her a beautifully crafted golden box. He told her never to open it, and then gave her curiosity."

"She opened the box?" Thali guessed reasonably. It was as if they were back in Lynwood, teenager and toddler once more.

"She did." Risa said with a nod. "She tried to resist the temptation, but it was too much. Eventually she even dreamt about the box. She finally opened it--and was horrified at what came out. Sickness, crime, povety, and all evils that torment mankind today. Still, one creature was trapped. Pandora slammed the box shut out of fear."

"What spirit?" Was the elf's predictable question.

"Foreboding. If Pandora had set that spirit free, man would know every misfortune that would have happened to him during his life time. Only the evil, not the good. Mankind would have been destroyed."

Thali's brows furrowed in confusion. "Miles...?"

"Miles is different." Risa explained. "He is an oracle. He sees both the good and the bad, the present as well as the past. This monster would have caused the world to lose all hope."

Thali was silent, though her mouth was set in a small o shape.

"Without hope, we would fail to exist." Risa finished. "To quote Mr. Barry, all we need is 'Faith, trust, and pixie dust'."

Miles was in his room, sitting at the desk his mother had originally intended for him to write at. Now it was more of a sit and think place, or in Miles case, find stuff out place. No, he wasn't spying. He was an oracle. A person chosen to tell the future, and the past. Still, he had to concentrate.

Under that orange hair of his, wheels were turning. Why had Matthias left his mother? Wanting absolutely no contact? He had to know.

If was as if he was watching a movie, where the darkness of his closed eyes should have been. He saw Matthias, with some woman he didn't know.

Then....

Then.. He quickly opened his eyes, and found himself shaking. He felt sick to his stomach.

No! He couldn't believe Matthias would do something like that. The fae seemed so kind, and gentle.

He reluctantly closed his eyes again. He had to see what happened next to understand why the fae had left his mother. The Matth in his dream was... Crying?

The little oracle opened his eyes, and wiped a stray tear from one cheek. "You are protecting her." he muttered to himself. "From yourself. Oh Matthias..." He sighed. "Can't you feel it? Risa's unique. No matter what your past is..."

The boy sighed again. He silently vowed never to tell his mother what he'd seen. He would contact Matthias in the morning.

For a while the cheer up tatics seemed to work. Risa would occasionally smile, and even chuckle. Though it all seemed empty, as if she were merely trying to keep her friends from worrying.

Of course, that didn't keep Miles from doing just that. It wasn't until the next morning that he was really concerned. It was almost noon, and his mother had not yet gotten out of bed. This was unusual, because the fae typically awoke early in the morning.

After giving Ellie her breakfast, (she insisted on cereal), he went to check on his mother. He didn't like what he saw. The fae was pale, and sweaty. A sickly sweet smell hung in the air.

"Mom, you alright?" Miles asked. Risa assured him that she was. Her son knew better. He planted a kiss on her forehead, and frowned at the clammy feel of her skin.

"You rest. I'll call the doctor." Miles whispered, before leaving the room. How had she gotten so ill so suddenly? Why was she so weak? Then he remembered. He sighed. Fae tended to 'fade' or become ill when they failed to accomplish their goals.

Clearly, his mother had set more hope on Matthias than even she knew.
Despite being an oracle, despite knowing his mother would be fine, and would live; he still had the concern for his mother. He picked up the phone, and dialed the hospital's number.

~Later~

"There is very little I can do." Dr. Smith told Miles gravely. "Your mother is very ill--we do not have much hope. Her organs are failing--" The old doctor shook his head sadly, and fell silent. He'd never seen something like this. It was if the fae was causing the sickness herself.

"Which?" Miles asked.

"All of them." The doctor said, with a sigh. "It's as if she's shutting down. She has no will to live. To be blunt... I hope you have a family member willing to take you in."

Dear Journal,

Yeah yeah, I know mom gave you to me several weeks ago and that I was supposed to write, but I have been busy. In the past two weeks I have succeeded in many things. Here's a quick run down.

1. Successfully got my mother on a date with her crush
2. Got Mom back together with said crush when he dumped her
2.5. In doing so, I saved my Mom's life
3 Learned how to cook, clean, and take care of Ellie
4. Beat the Elite 4, plus the Champion for the second time
5. I succeeded in getting Aife to like me.
6. I wonder if Zemel likes me?
7. I'm going to try to get Matthias to like me--I don't think he does. He seemed kinda... well, scared of me. If he is to be my father, I want to be able to get along with him. It really troubles me that we don't.

I promise to write in you again when I succeed in my newest goal. Journal, I want a younger brother. Perhaps several younger siblings, though Ellie is okay... I want a brother. Cousins aren't the same. I know that when the time is right, I will get one. But until then... You really are just a book full of empty pages.

Until then, journal.

Quote:
Miles had cleaned up the house, it'd been becoming somewhat of a mess since his mother had gotten ill. Risa normally had everything neat and tidy. He had made a pot of tea, in case Matthias wanted some. Everything was set..

Everything was perfect, and in their place. Except his mother, who should have been on the couch, waiting for Matth, and smiling. Instead, she was in bed.

Matthias headed up to the door, alone. 'Zuba was watching Koloro and Aife. The dark haired fae took a deep breath before knocking on the door. He still wasn't quite sure what he was going to do....but, if she was going to die either way... A sigh escaped his lips as he waited for someone to answer the door.

Miles opened the door in an instant. "Hi, Matth." He said, with a relieved tone. "Um... You want to see her?" Without waiting for an answer, he lead the fae down the hall to Risa's bedroom.

He opened the door slowly. "Mom? Matthias is here." His eyes were turned away from his mother--for good reason. She didn't look very well.

The sickly fae struggled to sit up. "Hi, my name's Arisa.." She started. "You can call me Risa and we can be frien--" she slumped back mid-word.

Matthias followed the child wordlessly, seeing as he had no choice in the matter. He hadn't prepared himself for what he was going to see, though. He strode over the the bed swiftly to check on her. "Risa, just rest, okay? Don't strain yourself." Dammit, he was concerned!

Risa just looked at him for a moment. "I don't believe we've met..." She muttered. She did seem to take his advice, and laid back down on her pillow.

Miles sighed. "She's doing what you asked her to do." He explained. "Pretending you've never met. So you'll be happy."

Matthias just shook his head, muttering darkly under his breath...more than like cursing. "Risa, I didn't expect you to take what I said so literally..." he said, trying to keep his tone gentle. He ignored Miles, still uncertain of the lad. Why was he here again? Just what exactly what was he supposed to do? Augh...

"Oh..." Risa managed, looking up at him. "Why....?" She meant to say 'why are you here?' but she couldn't form the words properly. She tried to force a smile. "Are you happy?" She asked.

Miles left the room, shaking his head. The adults needed privacy.

"I came because I'm worried." Matthias said, spitting the words out quickly. He then froze before letting out a disbelieving chuckle. She was worried if he was happy? How absurd. "No, frankly, I'm not. And I haven't been since, well...." He sighed; great, he sounded like a bad novel character now.

Risa tried, and failed, to sit up. "Worried?" She repeated, her eyebrows furrowed in confusion. Why would he be worried? He'd severed all ties with her--he didn't even want to be friends. So why was he here? She didn't understand. "Why would you be worried?" She paused, and stared at him for a moment. She reached out a hand, trembling from the effort. She took hold of his. "You lied to me, Matthias. You said you would be happy."

Matthias sighed, sitting on the edge of the bed. "I said take it easy." he said firmly, not wanting the poor woman to strain herself. He then sighed. "Why else would I be worried?" he said, his voice strained. "And yes...yes, I lied....." No point in denying it.

Risa blinked at him, confused. "I am taking it easy." She said. "You've been listening to Miles." She complained. "I'm fine... really.." But she wouldn't meet his eyes when she said that. "Why did you..?" The sickly fae looked up to him, her grip on his hand loosening. "Lie, I mean.."

"If you are fine, then my hair is beach-bunny blonde." Matthias said, his tone harsher than he intended. He then took a deep breath, releasing it slowly. "I thought it would be for the best. Apparently, I was wrong. I am truly sorry, Risa." he said, looking down at their hands.

Risa frowned at his harsh tone. "I am fine.. Truly." She sat up to look at him, her eyes bright. "Nothing is ever for the best, unless it makes you happy." She said, conveying the complete faith she had in that statement. "So.. Matth. What do you suppose we do now?"

Matthias blinked, noticing her sudden change. He then shook his head. "Unfortunately, I don't share that same philosophy." he said simply, shrugging. He then paused, blinking. "Um....what do you mean?" he said, trying to will himself to keep calm.

Risa didn't say anything, she leaned forward and planted a kiss on Matthias' lips. "I suppose we do that." She muttered. The color was coming back, now. She no longer resembled something that'd been kept in the dark all it's life.

Matthias blushed brightly, eyes widening. He had expected a few things....that was not one of them. "I....um..." he stuttered, not believing what she just sprung on him. "I...I suppose so..." He murmured after a minute, his tone soft.

Risa pulled back, and smiled at him. She was looking better than she had when Matthias had first come in--much better. "So, Matthias.." She started. "You think we can be friends?" Her eyes had a teasing sparkle in them; yes, she was doing much better.

Matthias rolled his eyes. "As the teenagers of this era say....duh." he said, shaking his head a bit. "Of course. If I didn't want to be friends, think I would have come here?" Augh, women.... such confusing creatures, they were.

Risa blinked at him. "Is that really why you came?" She asked. "You didn't listen to Miles?" She asked, accusingly. She'd guessed. Miles had invited Matth, otherwise the fae wouldn't have come. She knew it.

Matthias smiled lightly. "I wouldn't have known how bad off you were had it not been for the boy." he said politely. So in other words, yes, he'd been invited over by the boy.

Risa frowned. "I was fine." She said, a slight whine in her tone. "But I'm glad he invited you.." She muttered, before leaning into him. "I missed you."

Matthias paused before giving her a gentle hug. As much as he hated to admit it.... "I missed you as well, Risa." he said quietly, sighing yet again. "I am glad that you are well...."

Risa gave a soft smile, before looking up at him. Her eyes grew serious, and the smile faded. "Matthias, what are you protecting me from?" She asked. "Miles wouldn't tell me--he said you were afraid. Maybe you'd prefer not to talk about it.."

Matthias frowned. "I would rather not talk about it. Due to recent events, I believe it is quite irrelevant now." he said, his tone calm as he looked down at her. "You...you would be much happier not knowing, so let us leave it at that, shall we?"

Risa nodded at him, and took his hand. She worried about him, the dark haired fae she'd come to love. "We never got to dinner on our date." She said. "Would you like to go to dinner with me?"

Matthias blushed slightly as she took his hand; goddammit, where'd his composure go? "I suppose I could...." he said, offering a small smile. "Are you sure you are well enough?"

"As well as ever." Risa said, not meeting his eyes. No, she wasn't completely well yet. That wouldn't keep her from spoiling her chance. She used her arms to help her stand up, and fell back onto the bed in a sitting position. She frowned.

Miles poked his head in the room. "You could always eat here--I've already made dinner, if pizza's alright."

Matthias shook his head. "You still need rest, Risa." he said, giving an amused chuckle. "Just relax, okay? We can eat here." He nodded; he didn't mind pizza, even if it was a bit different from when he was younger.

Risa frowned at Matth, before she nodded at Miles. Pizza did sound good, with her new found appetite. "Wasn't quite what I had in mind, but it'll do." She muttered.

Miles brought in a tray with a pizza on it. Two slices were missing so it resembled Pacman. "Here you go." He said, setting it on the bed.

Matthias muttered something along the lines of "waggawagga" before offering Risa a piece, smiling. Huh, looks like someone had a sense of humor. "Here; you get the first piece." he said, offering a small smile, sure that he sounded absolutely ridiculous.

Risa smiled, and took the slice. "Thank you." She said, before taking a bite. She was starved, after not being able to eat. Though, she silently reminded herself to mind her manners, and ate slowly. "This is really good." She said, setting her slice on the plate.

"You are welcome." he said, nodding once before taking a piece for himself. He barely nibbled on it, though; he wasn't very hungry, considering he'd eaten before coming here.

Risa finished her slice, and looked to Matth. "Not hungry?" She asked, with a slight tilt of her head. "We could do something else." She offered. "As long as it's not another movie about spiders."

Matthias offered a small smile. "Not really. Though....you go ahead an eat. You seem rather famished." he said, nodding once. "I'll be fine here." He didn't mind waiting for her to finish.

Risa merely nodded, and took another piece of pizza. Matth was right, she was famished. "Haven't eaten since.. well, you know." She said, before taking a bite. "Are you sure there isn't anything you'd like? Something to drink? I can get it for you."

Matthias nodded his head once. "Yes, I am sure. I am just fine, though thank you for the concern, Risa." he said, offering a small smile. "Just enjoy your pizza; do not worry about me."

Risa took another bite of pizza, blinking at the dark haired fae. She swallowed. "Well, it's no good having you just watching me eat." She commented. "Want to play a game?"

Matthias arched an eyebrow. "Well, that depends. What kind of game is it that you have in mind?" he asked, looking at the woman, curiousity creeping onto his face.

"A board game?" Risa suggested. "Maybe Tic-Tac-Toe?" She shrugged. "I'm sorry, Matth, you must be bored." She gave a slight frown. "I've never been sick before."

Matthias shook his head. "I am not bored, so you need not worry about that." he said, chuckling. "But, if you insist on a game, tic-tac-toe will work just fine."

Risa smiled, and took a spiral notebook from her bedside table. She set up the grid, and looked to the dark haired fae. "X's or O's?" She asked. "You go first." She handed him a pencil, and the notebook.

"X's." Matthias said, nodding as he marked in the corner. Yeah, he'd play along with the game...but he wouldn't win. He'd already decided that the quicker he lost, the sooner she could go back to eating her food.

Risa watched him, and smiled as she put an O in the center square. "Don't go easy on me, kay?" She said, before handing him the notebook again. If the fae hadn't been oblivious to Matth's plan, she would have reassured him that she was fine.

Matthias smiled, putting an "X" in a random square. "I will not." he assured her. He wouldn't go easy...he just simply wouldn't try. There was a difference.

Risa frowned slightly, he was so going easy on her. She put an O in a random square, mimicing his tatic. She smiled up at him. "Your turn." She said.

Matth quirked an eyebrow. "Okay." He said, placing an X in a more strategic box. Make her think that he was trying, then throw the game. A good strategy, no?

Risa was oblivious to Matthias' plot, or she wouldn't have put her O where she did. Now she had two in a row--just one more. She took a bite of pizza, while waiting for Matth to take his turn.

Matth placed his x in one of the last two spots...but didn't block her. There, now she was going to win, and she couldn't do a thing about it. Victory was his!

The "teenager" had gotten stuck with teaching the newbie. Joy. Stasia wore her usual work attire; a t-shirt that said "Bite Me" and jeans. How formal.

"No, no, Jaida. You have to hold the tray like this." she said, her tone calm and patient as she showed the younger girl once more, positioning the tray of food on the girl's hand before sending her off.

Jaida bit her lip, heading towards their volunteer; a certain black haired fae. Business was slow, so there weren't many interruptions to their training. She stepped slowly before losing her balance, the tray toppling over and the glassware shattering over the floor. Ruby eyes widened, lip quivering threateningly.

"Hey, hey, it's okay..." Stasia said, patting the younger girl. She got a shrill scream in return, followed by a massive flood of tears and wailing.

Matthias chuckled, amused as Stasia tried to calm the girl while cleaning up at the same time. He glanced out the window to the parking lot, looking for a certain person.

(( Jaida can breathe through her ears, which mean's she dun have to stop crying to breath. XD ))

Risa walked in, wondering if she'd gotten the right place. Said wondering ended as she spotted Matth. She went to stand next to him. "Hi Matth," She said, giving him a bright smile. "How are you?" Without waiting for answer, she took his hand, and looked around.

"You working here today, Matth? Or do you want to sit down?" By this time she had noticed the poor crying girl. There wasn't really anything Risa could do to cheer her up--which added to the fact that the seelie fae wasn't really feeling all that seelie today.

Matthias smiled, giving her hand a gentle squeeze. "I am quite fine. And you?" he replied, before chuckling. "I do not work here...I was simply helping Anastasia with training the new recruit."

Stasia sighed, her patience draining. "Hey Risa." she said, smiling at the fae before putting her hands over Jaida's ears. The crying slowed down and quelled, the girl gasping for breath. Stasia withdrew her hands, giving the girl a hug before helping her up. "What brings you here?" she asked, attention on Risa again.

"M-m-m sorry...." Jaida murmured softly, sniffling.

"I'm doing great." Risa said, smiling. She was, though she had seemed to have gotten tired of being as nice as she usually was--maybe it was the rebellious stage come late. "Oh, there's a new recruit?" The fae said with interest, looking over at Jaida. "Is that her?"

She paused, and looked to Stasia. "Hey, Stasia." She said, before pausing. Why was she here? Oh, right. "Matthias invited me." She said vaguely. "I don't remember if he said why.." She looked at her dark haired companion. "Why did you invite me, Matth?"

Jaida nodded. "Y-y-yes, m-ma'am. 'M the new r-recruit. Jaida Nei, at your service." she said, her voice barely above a whisper as she bowed.

Matthias smiled lightly. "I figured we could have lunch here and go see another one of those "movie" things." he explained, chuckling.

"Pixie boy saw a movie?" Stasia asked, sounding surprised and ignoring the glare she earned from Matth. "How'd you manage that small wonder?"

Risa smiled at Jaida, and gave a mock curtsy. "I'm Arisa--though I'd prefer it if you called me Risa." The fae looked up to Matthias, and gave one of her signature smiles. "What movie would you like to see?" She asked. Oh no, he was glaring! That meant he was unhappy! Though she had been far from caring when it came to Jaida, it seemed that she was still well... seelie when it came to Matth.

She frowned at Stasia. "Don't call him that." She said, giving Matth's hand a squeeze. "I managed it quite easily, all I did was invite him."

Matthias shrugged. "I thought about seeing...."Bruno", was it? Stasia recommended it." he said, having no idea what the movie was about. Poor Matth.

Stasia just smiled. "Why not?" she said, giggling. "Congratulations. I've been trying to get him to go since they first came in color."

Risa shook her head at Matth, she didn't know what Bruno was about either, but it didn't sound like her kind of movie. "Let's go see Startrek." She suggested. There was a certain character who reminded her of Matth, and it was a good movie. She'd always liked the series.

The fae looked to Stasia, a odd sort of smile on her face. Okay, it was more of a smirk. "Well. Matthias agreed to go with me the first time I asked."

Matthias smiled. "There is a new Star Trek movie?" he asked, surprised. "I would very much like to see it, then." he said, nodding.

Stasia frowned, before smiling once more. "That's because I wore him down for ya. You didn't have to do all the hard work." she said, her tone mild and falsely cheerful.

"There is, based on the original series." Risa said, smiling up at her companion. "I always prefered the originals, did you ever see it?"

She looked back at Stasia, a knowing smile plastered on her face. "Maybe he wanted to go with me." She suggested with a shrug. "We -are- dating." Yes, Risa was still quite pleased with herself for catching Matthias, even if it had almost caused her death in the process.

Matthias nodded. "Aye, I did." he said, smiling lightly. "Was one of the few television shows I used to watch."

Stasia frowned. Stupid girl, trying to steal her Matth. She didn't love him like that, but she still claimed him. She'd known him for most of her life; that alone gave her the right to claim him.

Risa smiled. "We'll go see that, then." She said, before she grinned up at him. "I'm paying this time." She said, "Since you paid last time." But what if paying for the movie made him unhappy? Oh no!

The fae looked at Stasia, and gave her a polite smile. She had a claim on Matthias, she did. Losing him had almost cost her her life. "Let's go sit down, Matth." She said, gesturing to a table. Why did she get the feeling Stasia didn't like her?

Matthias shook his head. "No, I insist. Allow me to; you save your money." He said, smiling before leading her to a table.

It wasn't that she didn't like her....it was just that she was trying to steal her Matth. That was all.

Risa frowned slightly, before smiling again. "But..." I want to pay. I want to return the favor. She faltered and followed him to the table, sitting across from him.

She opened her menu. "So, what would you like?" She asked.

Matthias smiled. "Oh, Stasia already knows what I will be ordering, so go ahead and choose your meal." he said, grinning.

"If you really want to pay....you can pay half, okay?" the dark haired fae said, smiling lightly at her. It was a good compromise, right?
Risa looked back to her menu, smiling. "I'll try the bacon, lettece and tomato." She said, looking over her menu to Matthias.

She paused, folding the menu up. "We could always go to my house, I have some of the older Startrek films. We can go to the movie theater tomorrow, maybe. As long as I get to pay for your half."

Stasia heard the order, yelling it to the cooks in the back before going to check on Jaida.

Matthias smiled. "That would be nice, I believe." he said, nodding. "And....and I suppose that is acceptable." He smiled; it'd been a while since he'd seen Star Trek; he looked forward to seeing it.

~Time skip, lala, they ate (If Matth actually ate), left the restaurant, now watching The Voyage Home~

Risa handed Matthias a bowl of popcorn, before leaning against his shoulder and using the DVD remote to turn the movie on. The startrek theme started to play. The fae smiled, and took a handful of popcorn. "This one's the best." She told him.

Matthias smiled, taking a piece of popcorn. "Oh? And which one would that be?" he asked, curious. He popped the popcorn in his mouth before putting an arm around Risa, eyes turning to the screen.

"The Voyage Home." Risa said, looking up at him. "It's about whales. I don't know if you've seen it. I won't spoil it for you, though." She turned her eyes back to the screen. There was an alien space ship, making strange sounds directed towards earth.

Matthias just nodded, which meant he hadn't seen it. What in heavens and hells did whales have to do with Star Trek? He watched the screen, looking confused.

Risa caught his look, and giggled. "You'll see." She said, answering his unasked question. The movie went on, and soon the crew of the Enterprise were on Earth, trying to figure out how they used money. Apparently they didn't have money in outerspace.

Matthias watched, intrigued. It was....interesting...but it wasn't the Star Trek he remembered. Which left him feeling a bit disappointed.

After a while, Risa seemed to have lost interest in the movie all together. Indeed, she wore an expression like to a child who was trying very hard not to steal another cookie from the cookie jar. She leaned forward, and kissed Matth on the cheek.

Matthias smiled, giving Risa a light hug in return. He didn't seem to notice the change in demeanor of his companion, or, if he did, he simply didn't show it.

A smile--no, it was a full out smirk now, spread across Risa's face. She planted another kiss on his lips before--

~Fades to black~

"You WHAT?!?!" It was a wonder half of Durem couldn't hear the little halfling as she yelling at the fae. "How could you be so stupid? Don't bed the girl until you wed the girl!"

"I am sorry, but...my personal life is none of your..."

"Like hell it isn't!"

Risa was standing in a line that was at least a half an hour long to the ticket booth. She and Matthias were supposed to be going to see Harry Potter and the Half-blood Prince. The usually friendly, kind fae was becoming impatient. Matth wasn't there yet, so she didn't have anyone to talk to. Miles had opted for staying home, muttering something about adults needing their privacy.

Risa didn't know what was meant by that, but.. It was nice to go anywhere. She'd been unable to leave her bedroom for a few days a while back, and was still appreciating the ability to walk outside.

Matthias headed towards the line, eyes scanning for a familiar face. He'd never been to one of these "theatre" things....last time he'd been to a threatre, it was to see a play, and he'd been personally invited by an old associate. But that was a long time ago.

"Hello, Risa." he greeted, walking over to the familiar face, giving her a small bow. "You look lovely this evening, as always." He offered her a small smile, and ignored the looks and "ohmigosh"'s from the teenage girls behind them in line.

Risa brightened considerably when she caught sight of Matth. She blushed as he complimented her. "You look nice too," She said, before slipping her hand into hers. She turned to glare at the teenagers behind them. Didn't they know that he was hers? Didn't they know that--

Well, someone was secretly possessive.

Matthias smiled, giving her hand a gentle squeeze. He blinked, then chuckled. "You need not mind them, Risa." he said, his tone amused. "Young ones cannot help themselves at that age." He offered a reassuring smile before leaning in to kiss her cheek.

Risa's blush deepened and a smile spread across her face. "I can't help it." She said, somewhat defensively. "I don't want to lose you." The line moved about a foot closer to the ticket booth, not that it helped much.

Matthias looked amused. "You would not. I am not that easily swayed or stolen." he said, stepping forward as the line moved. "You need not worry about losing me." He smiled, chuckling at the blush that moved across her cheeks.

Risa gave a relieved smile. "Good." She said, before she paused and looked up at him. "I'm paying for the tickets, alright?" Yes, she knew it was against tradition, that the guy was supposed to buy the tickets--but she'd invited him. It was only fair for her to pay, wasn't it?

Matthias frowned. "But I already counted out the money for the tickets." he said, pulling the bills out of his picket. "Please, allow me to pay for our tickets. You save your money, Risa." He smiled, accidentally flashing a bit of fang.

One of the girls squealed in delight and whispered something about "vampire" and "Twilight".

Risa sighed. "Fine." She said, though she was smiling. "I'll just pay for the refreshments." Then she turned to glare at the teenagers again. "He's not a vampire.." She muttered. "He doesn't even look like one."

Matthias smiled. "Good thing I do not eat much." he said, smirking. He looked back at the teens, winked, flashed a little fang, and turned around. Hey, why not have a little fun?

The teenagers tittering increased, though silenced when Matthias put an arm around Risa.

Risa had forgotten that, and gave a slight frown. "You just eat other things." She said, before glancing at the teenagers again. Argh. She didn't remember meeting any teenager this annoying--but then, maybe it was because she had never had someone to be possesive over.

"Matth, don't flirt with your fanclub over there." She complained. "Not that I blame them--you are rather handsome."

Matthias smiled, leaning in to whisper. "Not flirting. I am just....toying with them. Humans are rather amusing." he said, chuckling. That, and one of them looked like she could be a potential snack. (aka no-kill feeding)

Risa smiled and shook her head. "That's not very nice, Matth." The line was growing shorter now, they were almost to the ticket booth. Risa leaned in to whisper in Matth's ear. "Anyway, they don't look like they'd taste very good."

Matthias smiled; oh, he'd have to disagree. Not that he'd say it out loud. "I know it is not "very nice"....and I apologize. I should be on best behaviour." he said, chuckling.

"Preferably." Risa said, teasing. "There are times when bad behavior is encouraged.. But not at a movie theater." Uh-oh, so much for Risa being an innocent seelie. This was one of the times her unseelie side showed most.

"We're next, Matth." She pointed out.

Matthias chuckled, shaking his head. Someone was WAY too amused. "That does not stop human teenager most of the time." He stated, money in hand. "So, what moving picture are we going to view?" he asked, looking over at her.

"Yes, but we aren't human." Risa muttered, before moving on to his next question. "Oh, Harry Potter and the Half-blood Prince. The princess said it was good." She shrugged. Of course it had to be, if the princess had said so.

Matthias nodded, then stepped forward, ordering the tickets. Harry Potter; why did that sound familiar? Oh; Stasia had the books on one of her bookshelves. Hm, turning books into moving pictures; interesting.

"So, what snacks would you like to get?" he asked, smiling innocently.

Risa just smiled, shaking her head. "I'm getting the snacks." She said. "You can go find our seats if you want something to do~" Yes, she knew what he was trying to do. Trying to buy the snacks when she'd already said she would. Sneaky, but not sneaky enough. She went into the refreshment line.

Matthias shrugged; it had been worth a shot. "As you will." he said, smiling. "I'd rather wait; wouldn't want to lose you in here." A.k.a. he didn't want to get lost in here.

Risa smiled, and ordered the snacks. A soda, a large water for Matth, a medium bag of popcorn, a bag of skittles. She paid the cashier, and flashed him a smile before going to join Matth. "It's harder to lose me than you think." She said, teasing as she took his hand. She led him to the middle row. "You pick the seats?"

Matthias gave his eyes a dramatic roll. "You may pick; I do not know which seats would offer optimal viewing opprotunities." he said, motioning her onwards. He eyes a certain colored bag she held....were those Skittles?

Risa led him to the middle of the row, smiling as she sat down. "Want them?" She asked, noticing that he'd seen the skittles. "I got them for you--didn't know what you liked." She handed him the water as well. "Didn't think you should have soda though, you know... with.." She put her finger to her teeth. "Cavities would be bad."

Matthias smiled. "Sure. Thank you. I love skittles....even if they have changed a great deal since I first had them." He nodded, accepting the food and drink. "Thank you, Risa....though, soda wouldn't be too bad. My teeth are not so weak that a little drink can do them harm."

"Would you like a soda?" Risa asked, blinking at him. "I was told too much sugar was bad for you. Hm." But at that moment, the cheesy music stopped playing and the room went dark. Previews started to play.

Matthias shook his head. "No, water is just fine." he said, smiling. "...who told you that?" he asked, curious. He blinked as the music stopped, eyes going to the large screen, widening in sheer amazement. "Wow..." was all he was able to manage.

Risa shook her head, chuckling. "Miles." She said, in answer to his question. "You've really never been to a movie before, have you?" She took his hand, and leaned back into her chair. She offered him some popcorn with a smile.

Matthias shook his head. "I meant it when I said I hadn't." He said, sitting back in his seat and taking a piece of popcorn. "Thank you, for the popcorn and for inviting me." He said, seemingly amused by the previews. He thought this was the movie. "Why does the storyline jump around so much?" he asked, confused.

"You don't like modern things, do you?" Risa asked, before blinking. "Thank you for coming." She said, sounding genuinely grateful. "Oh, and you're welcome." She paused, and gave him a confused glance. "Oh, this isn't the movie." She explained. "These are.. what do you call them... advertisements. For other movies."

"I have nothing against them." Matthias said, looking over and smiling a bit. "I am...just not used to them." He looked back a the screen, looking confused. Advertisements for a movie before a movie? How odd.

Risa nodded. "I didn't either, for a while. Thali introduced me to most things just recently." She blushed, and was thankful for the darkness. Then the movie started to play.

Matthias began eating skittles as the movie started, washing them down with water. Uh-oh.

As the bridge on screen collapsed, a few people in the theatre gasped....and a certain long-haired one cheered and laughed, apparently amused by the destruction.

Risa blinked, and turned to look at Matth. "What's so funny?" She asked, and several people Shh!-ed her. "What's so funny?" She whispered.

Matthias offered a small smile, pointing to the screen. "The movie." he said, chuckling. Honestly, wasn't it obvious how hilarious that scene was? With all the little humans running around and screaming; oh so amusing.

Risa gave him a confused look, before looking back to the screen. She didn't think it was funny. "Matth, there's nothing about this scene..." She said, before frowning slightly. Of course. Unseelie. "I see."

Matthias chuckled. Well, it wasn't so much the people he found funny. It was just seeing the massive bridge getting taken down. "Sorry, Risa." he said softly, shrugging.

Risa just shook her head, smiling. She should have known what she was getting into, falling in love with an unseelie. "It's alright. I admit, the bridge was pretty epic."

Matthias smiled, turning back to the movie. How did they manage to get the effects so realistic? Was it....was it actually real? He sat there, eyes wide with wonder.

Risa noticed his wonder, and chuckled. "It's not real, you know Matth." She told him, taking his hand again. "Just a movie."

Matthias took her hand, smiling lightly. "But then...how do they get it to appear so real? Special effects weren't nearly this sophisticated....." He trailed off, the movie captivating his attention again.

"The last time you saw a movie, they were in black in white." She reminded him. "Times change." Her attention was veered back to the screen. Why was Matth so interested in all the violent parts? Risa stole a skittle, and plopped it into her mouth.

Matthias nodded. She had a point. And as to why he was so interested....well, the violent parts tended to have more special effects. So, naturally, the seemed more interesting to him.

The movie went on, until Remus and Tonks showed up, and the Weasleys' house was in flames. Risa shook her head and chuckled. "This isn't how it went at all." She said, glancing at Matth.

Matth was giggling right along with Bellatrix, actually cheering the witch on. In doing so, he earned quite a few glares from the people around them. Whoops.

Risa couldn't help it, she giggled, and leaned in to kiss Matth on the cheek. She silently wondered what had him in such a good mood-- but she wasn't about to discourage him.

Matthias smiled as he was kissed, glancing over at Risa. One word could answer her question: sugar. He smiled, kissed her back, then stuck his tongue out at the person who sat behind them, who'd been muttering about him the entire movie.

Risa smiled, blushed, and blinked as Matth turned to stick his tongue out at some teenage guy. She smiled politely at the boy, before she turned her attention back to the movie. Dumbledore had died by now.[

Matthias turned around just as Dumbledore went flying back. As some people gasped and sniffled....Matthias let out a cheer, pumping one fist in the air. That earning him glares and an empty cup getting thrown at him.

Risa couldn't help it, she started to giggle. She laughed so hard and so silently that she had to lean against Matth. Two of the people sitting next to our favorite romantic pair glared, and muttered behind their hands.

Matth grinned; finally, Risa seemed to find it as amusing as he did! He put an arm around the younger fae, giving her a hug. He looked at his half-empty cup of water for a moment before proceeding to dump it on the muttering people.

It wasn't the movie that was amusing Risa so much--it was Matth. She doubted very much that he found the movie as amusing as all this--it had to be something else. Then her eyes fell on a brightly colored bag. Aha! So this is what sugar did to unseelie. She would keep that in mind.

It might come in handy later.

Well, it didn't do it to all unseelie....just Matth. Centuries hadn't been enough time for him to outgrow or raise his low sugar tolerance. He popped another skittle in his mouth, looking back to the the screen, happily watching the credits roll.

Risa giggled, and snatched the remainder of the skittles from Matth. "No no," She said shaking her head at him. "No more sugar for you." She took his hand. "Ready to go?"

Matthias frowned. "But those are my skittles." he said, reaching for them. "Besides, I am old enough to decide how much I am allowed to have, thank you." He ignored her question; he wouldn't be ready to go until he got his skittles back!

Risa turned away, pouring the skittles into her hand. She handed him the empty bag. "There." She said. "But don't you think I'm sweet enough for the both of us?" She winked at him. "Trust me, I'll bring you some fudge home from my job soon."

Matthias frowned, then smiled a bit. "You are." he admitted, chuckling. "And that would be nice. Thank you, Risa." He stood up, stretching a bit before sprinting to the aisle, waiting there for Risa.

Risa smiled, and followed after Matth. She took his hand. "Want to go to the park?" She asked. Yes, to the park. Matth could use all his new found energy there, and she could play on the swings.

Matth smiled, nodding. "Sure, if that is what you wish." he said, gently holding her hand as he started walking down the aisle. Maybe he could get a treat there; hopefully one of the ice-cream vendors would be out today.

Risa returned his smile, and led him into the bright sunlight. "Come on!" She said. "The ice cream man'll leave if we don't get there soon!" She honestly had no idea she and Matth were thinking on the same lines. It was much too hot to not have ice cream. And she would get Matth the sugarfree kind.

Matthias didn't seem to mind the sudden brightness. "Alright!" he said, grinning. "Race you there!" he said and, without waiting for an answer, took off running as fast as he could. Sugar-free would DEFINITELY be a good idea.

Risa blinked, watching him go. She didn't bother to run after him, no. The park wasn't that far away, she could see it from where she was standing. She took her favorite shortcut, and was there within five minutes.

Matthias was, in five minutes, able to order his own ice-cream cone. He had three scoops of rocky-road, topped with caramel, and was enjoying it when Risa arrived. He smiled, waving to her.

Risa sighed, and waved back. She guessed by now that Matth hadn't chosen the smart way to go about things--avoiding sugar. Ah well. She'd have fun. She ordered two scoops of vanilla with chocolate sauce. She went to stand next to Matth. "Race you to the swings?" She asked.

Matthias grinned, standing up. "Suresure!" he said, blurring the words together. He took a bite of his icecream, then dashed off towards the swings, laughing and giggling like a little kid.

This time, Risa was ready, and dashed off after him. She reached the swing, and after taking a bite of her ice cream sat and started to pump her legs.

The fae didn't seem to notice that several teenage boys were watching her.

Matthias sat in the swing next to her, happily eating his ice cream as he rocked back and forth. He blinked, looking over at the teenage boys. His mood instantly changed, brows furrowing. What were they looking at?

Risa took another bite of her ice cream. "Bet I can go higher than you, Matth." She challenged him.
The boys had begun to argue amongst themselves. The words 'Date, cute girl, me first' drifted towards the two fae. Though Risa seemed happily oblivious.

Matthias heard. "Okay, Risa." he said, smiling. He then leaned over, kissing her. That'd show those stupid boys. They were not gonna get his Risa. He sat back and started swinging, grinning.

One of the boys seemed to be the leader of the group. He flashed a smirk in Matth's direction, and started muttering to his buddy. The other boy gave an identical smirk, and nodded. "Yeah, he's not good enough for her." One of them said. "Too femme." Another commented.

Matthias frowned, and threw his head at the one who called him femme. He then grinned at the boys, flashing his long fangs, almost daring them to say something. They did not want to mess with him, especially since he'd had sugar.

One of the boys hadn't noticed the smile, or he probably would have stayed silent. "Let's show her what real men are like." He said. The other boys shook their heads frantically at him, but he ignored them and started to head towards Risa.

Matthias grinned, hopping off his swing. "So, the little man thinks he's tough enough, eh?" he said, snapping his neck. The grin on his face went from easy-going to rather sinister. This would prove to be interesting. He flexed his fingers, his nails looking sharper than they had before.

Risa noticed, and paused in her swinging to watch. Normally, she would have gone to stop something like this, but...This one was about her, and that made it interesting.

Matthias smirked, slipping into a predatorial crouch. "Little mortal, if you value your life, you will go back to your little playmates." he said, the warmth leaking out of his tone.

The teenager ran back to his friends, and stared at Matth with wide eyes. He'd never met someone so frightening. (He'd obviously never met a fae before).

Risa jumped off her swing, and went to Matth's side. "They're only children, Matth. They can't help it--right now their hormones are almost as bad as our own." She grinned, and shrugged. "I won, by the way."

Matthias blinked. "Our hormones are not that bad." he said, chuckling. "And I didn't hurt them, did I? I let them leave uninjured." He smiled.

Risa just shook her head, chuckling. "You've no idea." She muttered, before looking to the slide. "Race you!" She said, dashing towards it.

Matthias grinned, racing after her. "I will beat you this time!" he said, laughing. He pushed himself, running as fast as his legs would carry him.

Risa slowed down, so he could beat her. It wasn't that she didn't want to win--it was that she didn't feel it was right to beat someone who'd already been beaten.

Matth noticed her slowing down....was she letting him win? No she was not! He slowed down as well, smiling innocently at her.

Risa sped up slightly, just enough so he wouldn't think she was letting him win. That was probably why he'd slowed down too--and it wouldn't do to have two fae determined to lose.

Matthias sped up as well, aiming to win once more! He leapt and bound his way to the slide without holding back.

Risa grinned, victory! She'd won the losing contest, and was rather proud of herself for it. "Well, are you going to go down or what?" She asked, speeding up so she was at his side. "Go on."

Matthias shook his head. "Nah, you go on. I do not care much for slides." The reminded him too much of the ramps commonly found at a slaughter house.

Risa shook her head at him. "Nah. Let's do something else." The fae spotted a merry-go-round, looked to Matth and grinned. "You get dizzy easily?" She asked.

Matthias smiled. "Not at all, Risa." he said, grinning. "Though, I understand if you do. We can spin a bit slower." Oooh, was that a challenge?

Risa grinned at the challenge. "You won't get me dizzy, even if we spin like a helicopter all the way to Mars." She responded. Psh, her dizzy? After practically raising an elf like Thali? As if.

Matthias grinned. "We shall see about that, then, young one." he said, chuckling as he headed towards the merry-go-round. Oh, there was no way he was going to lose this.

Risa shook her head, and dashed off towards the merry go round. She sat in the middle of it, holding onto one of the bars. "Ready when you are, Matth!"

Matthias grinned, grabbing one of the bars before starting to run, dragging it along as it started to spin. He'd get it going, then jump onto it.

Risa leaned back, and looked at the sky. There was no way she'd get dizzy. Nope, not Risa. "You think you can spin it faster?" She asked.

Matthias grinned. "Of course!" he said, starting to run faster. The metal disc groaned its complaint at the speed, but he paid it no heed.

"That's fast enough. We don't want it breaking." Risa said, having noticed the noise the merry-go-round was making. "Get on already."

Matthias hopped onto the merry-go round, clinging to the metal bars. "You dizzy yet?" he asked, his tone teasing.

"Not yet." Risa replied in the same tone. "How about you? Running in circles must have made you dizzy." She grinned. "Oh, right. Don't call me young one. I'm only around two hundred fifty years younger than you are, if you're as old as I think you are."

Matthias grinned. "Oh, no, I'm not dizzy at all." he said, chuckling. "I'm just fine." He then grinned. "Oh? And how old do you think I am?" he said, looking too amused.

Risa pretended to think about it. "Well, you look like you're in your twenties, that means you're around... Nine hundred give or take a few years. Probably around nine hundred twenty, come to think of it."

Matthias smiled, not confirming whether she was right or not. Which either meant she was close to the mark, or no where near it. "Is that what you think?" he asked, chuckling before moving along to his next question. "Dizzy yet?" he asked, smiling.

Risa grinned at him, guessing that she was right, or close to it. She knew he couldn't be much younger, or he would have looked closer to her age. "No, are you? Do you want to stop, is that why you're asking?" She gave a fake sigh. "I suppose if you want to stop..."

Matthias grinned. "I'm not dizzy at all, Risa." he said, his tone the same as it had been. "Just making sure you're alright. Wouldn't want you getting motion sickness."

Risa grinned, and looked over at him. "Raising someone like Thali tends to make you immune to all forms of motion sickness." She said. "You never told me how old you are, Matth."

Matthias smiled. "Does it matter?" he asked, grinning. "Same with raising Stasia." He muttered something along the lines of "damnable gypsy blood".

"It boosts my ego to know that I'm right." Risa said, with a grin. "So you know what it's like." She nodded at him. "I bet Thali's worse though--I'd never met such a hyper active princess--and believe me, I've met several."

Matthias smiled. "You are....close." he said, smiling. He then nodded, then chuckled. "You never dealt with a child her danced through the night hours and dashed away in marketplaces just to laugh at your worry."

*"You're in your thirties then, nine hundred thirty?" She guessed, grinning. "You don't look -that- old though." She paused, and chuckled. "You have no idea. Thali went looking for trouble--and not just fae. I suppose most of that's my fault--the only way I could get her to calm down was by telling her stories."

Matthias chuckled. "I think Stasia was much more of a handful. I swear, that child never sleeps." said the man who STILL got "guess what I just did" calls at four in the morning.

"Stasia ever try to start a war against a kingdom at six in the morning? She could have too--if I hadn't made her go to bed." Risa muttered something about toddlers who never went to sleep, though she was grinning. "She was determined to fight her father. Probably could have won, too. Averi was never very smart."

Matth shook his head. "No. But she did set a fire back when we were in the United States over on Earth. Damn near burned the entire city down, then blamed it on some poor animal." he said, shaking his head.

"Sounds just like you, Matth." Risa said, teasingly. "You seem to have a reckless streak in you, maybe she picked it up from you." She paused, chuckling. "Thali only picked up one bad habit from me--she swears. In fae."

Matthias frowned. "She did not get that from me; when I was first put in charge of her care, she was already like that." he said, shaking his head. He then chuckled, amused.

"Thali was fairly young when I started watching her.. Her parents were never very good to her. Her father kept locking her in a room, and would leave her there for weeks on end." The fae shook her head. "I taught her all I could before she ran away."

"Stasia lived with her human mother and their "tribe", I guess you could call it, for the first ten years of her life." Matthias said, sighing. "Most of her behaviours she learned from traveling along with the caravan." Which actually explained a lot.

Risa nodded in understanding. "Gypsies, right? I've only met Stasia once, really. When she and Vate got us to that restaurant. She seemed nice enough."

Matthias nodded. "Yes, gypsies." he confirmed. "She's nice...just lacks a lot of morals." It was bad when he had more morals then she did. He then chuckled. "Thali seems awfully calm and mature from what I've observed."

Risa sat up at that. She coughed, and seemed to be covering something with it. "Because you're fae." She said, with a grin. "You're fae, and she's fascinated by us. You impress her with your very presence, I would be careful around her for a while. She may develop--well. She's always been loyal to her husband."

Matthias blinked, then chuckled. He wouldn't blame her for falling for perfection. "I'll be carefull, then." he said, sounding way too amused. "Why does she find us so interesting?" he asked, confused.

Risa frowned slightly at his amused tone. "No toying with her either." She said, sounding stern. "I've invested one hundred thirty years in her." She paused, and went on to answer his question. "I blame myself for that." She said, and she did look a little guilty. "I told her stories about the fae, our magic, how we were exiled. It kept her happy, but she wanted more than just stories."

Matthias faked a small pout. "Alright..." he said, sounding disappointed. He then nodded. "Ah...I see." He still didn't see why they were exiled, but then again, he'd never lived there, so technically, he was never exiled.

Risa grinned at his pout. "Okay, maybe a little toying wouldn't hurt. As long as you don't make a snack out of her. I hear elves don't taste very good anyway. Especially royal ones."

Matthias frowned. "I would not feed off her." he said, sounding insulted. Honestly, to think Risa'd say that....

"Good." Risa said, nodding. Not that she had thought he would, she was having fun teasing him. "I hear Sammi's taken a liking to you."
Matthias nodded. "She has." he confirmed, his tone nuetral and subdued. Poor Matth.

Risa frowned slightly, and gave Matth a hug, which was rather difficult when they were spinning. "I love you." She said.

Matthias smiled, hugging her back. "I love you too, Risa." he said smiling softly. "You dizzy yet?"

"Not yet, are you?" Risa asked with a smile. She was glad he was cheering up, she hadn't liked the sulky side of him.

Matthias smirked. "Of course not. I told you I would not get dizzy." he said, chuckling.

"Let's get off then." Risa said, looking to the sky again. "I'll race you to---what is that thing?" She stared at it a moment. It was a child. A strikingly familar child. Her eyes widened, and she hopped off the merry-go-round.

Matthias blinked. "Risa?" he asked, confused at her sudden change in subject. He hopped off as well, looking to the child. Who in the world was that?

Risa rushed over to the toddler, and picked him up. "Where've you been?" She asked. Of course, the child didn't anwser--he was too busy looking at Matthias in horror.

Matthias blinked, walking over and standing next to Risa. "What is wrong, little one?" he asked, concerned for the little boy.

Davian clung to Risa, ocassionally giving the dark haired fae frightened looks. "Well.. introduction's now or never. Matth, this is Davi, Prince Davian of Lynwood, I should say I suppose--now Thali'll be able to come to her senses."

Matthias nodded. "Ah, I see.....you have been through a lot from what I've been able to gather, little Davian. I am glad to see that you are okay." he said, patting the little boy on the head.

Davian gave Matthias another frightened look, before sniffling. Was the mean fae going to hurt him? Was he mad that he'd escaped?

Risa looked from the toddler to Matth. "Well. I think we better get him to Thali, before whoever he was with comes back."

Matthias nodded. "Yes, lets. We wouldn't want him captured again." He glanced around, making sure the coast was clear. Poor little boy seemed so scared...

Risa nodded, and balanced the toddler on her hip. She took Matth's hand with her right. "Let's go. We're not too far from where she lives." She pointed down one of the less populated streets of Barton.

Matthias nodded, following her. He kept his eyes peeled for any sign of the boys captors, silently daring them to try anything. "Are you alright, Davian?" he asked, looking over to the boy.

Davian whimpered and hid his face in Risa's chest. The fae sighed. "Davi, Matth's not going to hurt you." She tried to reassure the toddler--it wasn't working.

Matthias offered a small smile. "Davian, I promise I will not harm you. I am a friend of your sister, Thali." he said, his voice the same soft and gentle tone he used to calm Koloro.

Davian looked up, blinking. "Sissy?" He asked, tilting his head slightly. So much for his fear of fae, Matth had said the magic words. The toddler looked around as if Matth was hiding Thali somewhere. "Wan Sissy."

Matthias smiled lightly. "We are taking you to her now. I am sure she will be glad to see you." he said, smiling lightly.

Davi gave Matth a small smile, before reaching for him. Risa just shook her head. "The fae didn't hurt him." She said, sounding surprised. "I mean... he's fine. They didn't break the truce."

Matthias smiled, gently taking the little elf. "That is good." he said, nodding as he held the little one close. Why did little kids have to like him; why?

Maybe it was because Matth was so likable. Whatever the case, Davi was quite happily babbling to him in elvish.

"He says you're pretty." Risa said with a giggle. "I quite agree with him, actually."

Matthias chuckled. Him, pretty? ....okay, so he was, but still. He gently ruffled the little one's hair, trying to understand him as he spoke. He caught bits and pieces, but...not enough to decipher what he was saying.

Davian smiled, and babbled. His eyes were sparkling, uh-oh. He had the same look Thali did before she was about to cause trouble. The toddler took a fist full of Matth's hair.

"Let's get him to Thali." Risa said quickly, not bothering to translate this time.

Matthias nodded, picking up his pace. "Risa, what did he say?" he asked, smiling at her. Curse the stupid language barrier!

Risa flushed, and looked at Matth. "Well.. You know what toddlers are like. Most of what they say is gibberish..." She paused, and sighed. "Alright. He's claimed you as his pet. Don't be mad at him, Matth. He's a baby.. He doesn't know what he's saying."

Matthias blinked. Him, a pet? He snickered, trying not to laugh out loud. The little one thought he could keep him as a pet? What a laughable notion. "Isn't that cute...." he commented, thouroughly entertained.

Davian looked up at Matth and babbled, tugging lightly on the fistful of hair he'd claimed.

"Before you ask, he said he loves you." Risa said, not enjoying her role as translator. She continued to lead them down the street, before stopping in front of a fancy looking house.

Matthias smiled lightly, stopping along side rise. He gently took his hair out of the little one's grip; didn't need it getting tugged out, now did he? "Is this Thali's home?" he asked, curious.

Risa grinned, and looked to Matth. "No, it's just a house I like to look at on the way there." She said, sounding sarcastic. "Of course it is." She walked up the side walk and knocked on the door.

"Sissy." Davian said, falling back into english. He didn't speak it well, and prefered elvish better. "Sissy sissy sissy." He reached for the door.

But it wasn't Thali who opened the door. It was Josh. The dark skinned boy was dressed in jean shorts and a t-shirt, and positively stared when he saw Matth and Risa. His eyes grew to the size of saucers as he saw Davi. "Davi!" He said, a smile spreading across his face. "You found him!"

Matthias rolled his eyes, walking up the sidewalk. Matth then nodded. "We did." he said, smiling. "And look; the little one is uninjured as well." He offered the little boy to the child, glad to reunite him with his family.

Joshua took Davian, and hugged the little elf. "I'll go get Mom." He said, before disappearing into the hall. "Mom!" The boy called. "Risa and Matth are here!"

Josh appeared in the doorway again. "She's coming." He told them. He seemed to be stating the obvious, as a certain princess had dashed out of the kitchen and was right behind him.

"Hi Risa, hi Matth." She said, breathlessly. Then she spotted Davi, and fell silent. She snatched the toddler from her son's arms and hugged him. At first, Davi returned the hug quite happily--but then he started protesting in elvish.

Matthias smiled, chuckling. "Hello, Thali." he greeted, bowing his head politely. Well, now that Davian was safe at home, they could leave now, right?

Thali smiled, and set Davian down. She promptly hugged Matth. "Thank you for finding him." She said, before doing the same to Risa.

They would have been able to leave, if a certain toddler hadn't come out of her bedroom at that very moment. She was clutching her 'Kitty' doll by the arm. "Kitty!" She cried, delighted. "Kitty Kitty! I gots two Kitties!"

Matthias patted Thali. "It is not a problem." he said, offering a small smile. The dark-haired fae looked down, smiling at Sammi. "Oh, you do, do you?" he said, chuckling.

Sammi held up her Kitty doll, smiling. "Two Kitties, see?" She said, hugging the real one around the leg.

Thali shook her head at her daughter. "It was the only way to stop her from screaming." She explained, looking to Matth and flushing. "She seems to really like you, Matth."

Matthias patted Sammi on the head. "Ah, I see." he said, chuckling. He then nodded at Thali's words; why him? "I've noticed." he said, shaking his head.

"Up, Kitty?" Sammi asked, raising her arms. Then she became more insistant. "Up up Kitty?"

Thali grinned at Matthias, before shaking her head. "She's inherited my fascination of fae." She said.

"Obsession, you mean." Ben had come into the hallway, the man was carrying a sleeping Reiya, her head leaning against his shoulder.

"It's not an obsession." Thali protested.

"It is." Ben and Risa said in unison.

Matthias picked the toddler up, balancing her on his hip. "I have to agree with them....obsession is a better word for it." he said, chuckling in amusement. He looked to Sammi, smiling lightly. "How are you?"

Thali frowned slightly. "It's not an obsession." She protested. "It's a perfectly healthy interest--and if I wasn't interested, I wouldn't have been able to convince my father that fae aren't all evil." She gave Risa a challenging look.

"Obsessions can be useful." Risa said with a shrug.

Sammi smiled, and looked up at him. "Good, how ooo Kitty?" She asked. "We play Kitty? Tag?"

Matthias smiled. "I am doing quite well, thank you." he said. He then shook his head. "I would love to, but Kitty cannot stay too long. I am sorry."

Sammi frowned slightly, and sniffled. She rubbed her eyes. "Wan Kitty stay." She said, her tone whiny. "Wan Kitty stay!"

Ben, sensing danger (like every good father could), retreated and went into the living room. Thali on the other hand, pushed Davian into the living room, before looking to Matth and Risa. "Thank you for bringing Davi home--but you better go."

Matthias hugged Sammi. "I know, I know. But I can't." he said, trying to prevent a tantrum. "Kitty is busy today; perhaps I can visit later, hm?" He sat Sammi down, ruffling the little one's hair.

Sammi brightened at the promise of seeing Matth again. "Kay, Kitty. Come soon, pwomise?" She looked up at him, tilting her her head.

Matthias smiled lightly. "I promise." he said, nodding. "Be a good girl for your parentds, okay?" he said, patting the little halfling on the head.

Sammi smiled, and toddled off into the living room, chanting something about 'Davi'. Thali shook her head, and looked to Risa. "You two have fun, alright?"

Matthias smiled lightly, standing back up and stretching a bit. "I am sure we will have quite a bit of fun." he said, nodding and smiling.

Thali gave a knowing smile, and pushed the two fae out of her house. "Go on then. Go have fun. And Risa, make sure you're not the one to propose!"

At this, Risa only blushed.

Matthias blinked. "Wait, what?" He said, looking at the elf, confused. What....what was she talking about?
