Miles had been sent shopping--well not exactly sent. His mother was too ill to get out of bed, and he couldn't let his younger sister starve. So he'd taken some money (with permission, of course), and walked to the store. It was a new experience for him, taking care of someone.
Usually his mother was bright and cheerful, always willing to help. Lately the fae seemed to be shutting down, she didn't have any energy. Naturally, he had a certain person he pushed the blame on. Fae didn't last long after they've failed achieving their goal. And Matthias had been Risa's.

Nataya shuffled down the aisle, stifling a yawn with one hand, holding her younger cousin in her arm. Honestly, she would have preferred staying home....but her uncle had been acting a bit weird, so she figured he probably would need some help with the younger ones. So here she was, half-asleep and shuffling about in an almost zombie-like fashion, holding a curious toddler. Not a good mix by any stretch of the imagination.
Matthias was dead silent, the only noise coming from the squeaky wheels of the cart and the sniffling baby sitting in it. He seemed blank, his movements almost robotic as he headed to the infant/toddler section of the clothing department. Aife had grown recently, and was in need of new clothes. Well, she had some...but best to have a variety, right? That, and shopping made a good distraction...

Miles nearly bonked into Nattie, and apologized while blushing furiously. "Hi Nattie." He said with a forced smile. "Hi Aife, you grew!" He noticed with a half-hearted grin. "How are you?"
Then he noticed the dark haired fae. He sighed. "Hello, Matthias." He muttered. "What brings you here?" He asked. Miles' basket was full of food, water, things you didn't need to cook. Which might have appeared strange, because Risa was one of the greatest cooks--
"Mother's ill." He said, in explaination. "So I'm taking care of Ellie."

Nataya offered a small, half-awake smile. "It's okay.....Miles, right?" She vaguely remembered seeing him at the picnic. If she was more awake, she might have noticed the plastic quality in his smile. But, through fatigue-glazed eyes, the smile looked genuine.
Aife offered a small smile. "Hi!" she greeted, happy to see him. She reached out, making grabby hands. "Up!" she said, giggling. Apparently, she hadn't quite understood his question.
"Hello, Miles." Mathias answered, nodding once. "Clothes." He answered simply. He just nodded, trying his best not to care.

"Yeah, I'm Miles." Miles said with a nod. He wondered what was wrong with his cousin's friend. She seemed tired. Poor girl.
The oracle was surprised to see that Aife was talking--in english. He knew she spoke her native tongue, maybe she was learning. He picked her up. "I've missed you." He told her.
The boy shook his head at Matthias, before muttering something about 'unhappiness, dying,' and 'orphans'. "Clothes? Cool." He said aloud. "I'm just getting food--for Ellie and I. Mom won't eat." He sighed. "She hasn't done much since your trip to the park, Matth. She won't even get out of bed."

Nataya offered a small smile. "It's nice to meet you formally." she said softly, rubbing at her eyes with one hand. She was tired, so tired... She leaned against one of the clothing racks, stiffling a yawn.
Aife smiled as she was lift up by the older boy. "Missed." she agreed, nodding before hugging the older boy.
The pang of guilt hit him again, right in his gut. "Oh...." was all he managed to say.

Miles noticed something was wrong with Nataya right away, and poked her with a gentle finger. He couldn't let his cousin's friend be sick too! "Are you alright?" He asked. "You look tired. Haven't been sleeping?"
Miles kept one arm around Aife, as he looked to Matth. "Come to my house later." He said. "Please. If you care anything for my mother. I need to talk to you privately, you don't even have to see her." He rubbed his eyes with his free hand. "To be blunt, even if you did.. I don't think you'd have to worry about seeing her again."

Nataya nodded. "I...I'm fine." she said, offering a sleepy smile. "Just fine...and I've been sleeping..." Over-sleeping, that is. She seemed to be taking naps throughout the day, slept soundly through the night...it wasn't lack of sleep that was afflicting her.
Matthias noticed something was...off. "Alright." He said after a moment, despite his better judgment. He cut ties with her; he shouldn't care. But, he did. Damn it.

Miles shook his head at Nattie, he didn't quite believe her. "You need more rest." He told her. He hugged Aife, to cheer himself up. He really was worried about his mother, despite knowing that she would be alright in the end. What if her fate changed? What if she didn't get better?
The oracle gave Matth a grateful look, and a half smile. "Thank you so much." He muttered. "I don't know what else to do..." He paused, and looked up at the fae. "Matthias, if my mother dies.. Will you take Ellie in?"

Nataya chuckled. "I'm getting enough. Honest, I-" She was cut off as a yawn issued forth. "Honest I am." she finished, smiling. "I'm fine, really. Just peachy..."
Aife looked up at Miles, tilting her little head before hugging him. Something was wrong; she wasn't so dense that she couldn't notice.
Matthias blanched. "What?" he said, not sure if he wanted to trust what his ears had heard. Dies? What in Heaven's name was the lad talking about?

Miles gave Nattie a concerned look. "Well.. as long as you're alright." He said, promising himself he'd bring coffee for Nataya the next time he saw her.
Miles held Aife close to him, and wiped -that ever so annoying- stray tear from his cheek with his other hand. "She's dying, Matthias." He managed, looking up at the fae. "The doctor came this morning, and said there's little to no hope. Her organs are failing. All of them." He paused, and looked at the floor. "Some fae call it fading, I suppose.."
The boy sniffled. "She's not supposed to die. She's supposed to be happy. She's supposed to be with you."

Aife patted at his check. "Leak." she said, frowning. Why was he leaking? Did he break or something?
He thought he was doing the right thing, but no, it had to come and slap him in the face. Whoever was up there had a sick sense of humor. He sighed, rubbing the back of his head. Dammit, what was he supposed to do in a situation like this? He was damned if he did and damned if he didn't. He deliberated in silence for a moment before speaking. "Alright.....Meet you at your house, then, I suppose?"

Miles sniffled, and wiped another tear from his cheek. He hugged Aife. "I'm not leaking." He muttered. He looked to Matthias and nodded. "Right.. My house." He said. "I'll make you something to eat while you're there if you like--normally Mom would..but.."
He raised his head, and looked to the fae. "I know what you're afraid of. Arisa knows how you eat, she would never expect you to stop. There's no reason to suspect... It won't happen again."

Aife hugged the older boy, trying to get him to stop leaking. Why wasn't it working!? "Are leaking." she said, mumbling.
Matthias was about to say something, but froze. "How...?" How in seven hell's had the boy known that? Obsidian eyes narrowed, looking at the boy. He wasn't sure whether he should feel reassured or whether he should snap the boys neck. He chose the first, seeing as the latter was a bit...over-kill.
While they discussed the serious matter at hand, it seemed Nataya was taking Mile's advice. She was asleep....standing up and leaning against the clothes rack. Good thing they were screwed into the floor, or she may have gone toppling.

Miles gave the toddler a hug. "I'm not leaking." He said, shaking his head. His tears were drying now, as he looked to Matth. "Oracle." He said simply. "You can choose to kill me, as I know you were thinking of doing. The spirit of the oracle will return." The boy shrugged.
"Anyway.. It wouldn't be a good idea to snap my neck in the middle of a store. You'd get arrested, and they'd take Aife and Kole."
