"Thanks for helping me get all this stuff, Fish," said Orli happily as the pair stomped down the path towards the Barton coast. In her arms she held a paper sack stuffed to the top with all sorts of cheap pyrotechnic supplies, as did her slightly younger (albeit taller) friend.

"This is gonna be cool!" enthused Fish. Even though he had a longer stride, he still had to walk fast to keep up with Orli's energetic pace. He held an even larger bag of fireworks, which she had talked him into carrying on account of him being larger and male. ("Be a gentleman!")

"We definitely got more stuff than I thought we'd be able to get," nodded Orli, taking a flight up stairs up to the dune overpass two at a time.

"Dad gave me a lot of pocket money," said Fish, following her.

"Did you tell him what it's for?" asked Orli.

"No," answered Fish, which made her laugh. She was already glowing faintly in the twilight.

"How many people did you call?" she asked.

"A lot," he said. "How about you?"

"A lot," said Orli, hopping down the stairs at the end and running ahead of him onto the beach. "I think I see some now! Hey!"

She tore off down the beach, leaving Fish struggling to keep up.

"Hey," said Crowley, raising one arm in greeting. The other one was currently supporting two plastic bags full of loot from the kitchen - apples and cookies and, well, lots of fruit since it was harder to get to the snack cabinet than into the fridge, so he also had sugar and the chocolate they kept in the fridge. One of the bags was moving slightly. (It had a teabot in it.) He was happy for a reason to get out of the house. There were creepy dead girls in his house. "I heard there were fireworks?"

The faintly glowing girl got an odd look from him - dude, why not, she was glowing, why the ******** was she glowing like that? - but most of his attention immediately went to his blood brother. "That is a lot of fireworks," he opined in an awestruck voice as he dropped his loot. With one cautious yellow eye on the glowy girl, he leaned in to ask Fish in a whisper, "Dude, the f- hell does 'xoxoxoxo' mean?" He counted on his fingers as he asked, making sure he had the right number. For all he knew, different combinations of "x" and "o" meant different things. He didn't want to risk that kind of stuff messing up his voyage of manly discovery, which was sort of like what he was doing here.

He hadn't even told his mom. Crowley grinned; even if Fish didn't know what the strange code stood for, there were still going to be explosives, weren't there?

Joshua walked down the path to the beach, easily followed by his "Pest" of a cousin, Miles. "Why'd they have to call you, anyway?" The dark skinned boy grumbled half-heartedly. He actually was in a good mood, though he never quite seemed to get along with his cousin. ("He's too blunt.") Believe it or not, the older boy had recieved permission from his mother, to the disaproval of her husband. She had asked her son to let off some big ones for her.

Miles frowned slightly, though he was seemingly used to this. "Fish is my friend, Orli is yours." He said, looking for either of the two. Of course, he had never met Orli; Josh had had to provide a description. Though, unlike his older cousin, he hadn't recieved permission. He had asked his mother--who gave the typical 'I'm not from Gaia' response--meaning... ("What's a Roman Candle?")

The oracle'd had to explan that Roman Candles were explosives people set off for fun. His mother hadn't liked the sound of that, and had promptly said no. Oh well. He would apologize later.

"Crow Lee!" shouted Fish, skidding to a halt in the sand next to his blood brother. He inclined his head towards the other boy, listening to his question, and replied, "I dunno. Orli wrote the notes."

He motioned to the glowing girl and set down the bag of fireworks. "That's Orli," he said. "She's in level two, so I dunno if you know her."

Orli had already set down her bag and was waving a pair of figures down the beach. "Josh!" she yelled. "Who's your friend?"

Fish looked up from his investigation of the bags of food to look at the two boys striding towards them. "It's Miles!" he exclaimed. "Miles! Over here! Do you know Crowley?"

"Come on and hurry up!" Ginger said, towing her brother along by the arm. "If we don't hurry, they'll start setting them off without us! So stop dragging your feet and come on!" She had a grin plastered on her face, excitement lacing her tone. What a thrill it was; sneaking out of the house like this. She let out a laugh. Oh, she'd so have to thank Josh and Miles for telling them about this and inviting them.

The boy found himself being dragged along, much against his will. "Mom's gonna kill us, Mom is SO gonna kill us...." he muttered, worry spreading across his face. What were they thinking? What if Mom went to check in on them? They were so gonna get busted; he just knew it! He chewed on the inside of his lower lip nervously as he was all but dragged to the field.

"Orli being the glowing chick," Crowley guessed as he bent down to free the teabot from the handles of the bag. "I dunno her, nah. How do you know her?" Girls were pretty grody, except Phelly, who was not really a girl and he didn't see her much anyway.

Then Fish was yelling for someone, and Crowley was wishing for better low-light vision as he stared out at some dim figures approaching. "I dunno him, so if he knows me it's a little bit freaky," said the Australian out of the corner of his mouth. He had to tackle the teabot to stop it from going to corral the approaching kids. Somehow he suspected he hadn't exactly found a disarmed one, so it'd be best to keep a firm eye on it.

Miles looked to his cousin, who gave him a quick nod. The younger boy practically ran to Fish's side. "Hi, Fish!" He said, with a bright smile. Then he noticed Crowley, and decided to greet him as well. "Hi Crowley." Then, he spotted a familar looking blonde. "Zemel! Zem-el! Come here!" He called, bouncing on the balls of his feet and waving. He looked to Fish, and smiled. "Do you know Zem?" He asked.

Josh went over to Orli's side, before waving at Ginger. "Hey, Ginger!" He exclaimed. He'd called her just in case--to make sure she'd gotten the invitation. He was mildly annoyed--only mildyly-- to see Miles talking to Zemel--Zemel had been his friend first.

"Orli being the glowing chick," nodded Fish. "Dunno why she does it, though," he added, and gave the teabot a look. How had Crowley managed to steal one of those? He was almost tempted to ask, but didn't. "Just from school 'n stuff," he shrugged. "I asked her to help me read something back in preschool. It went from there."

He smiled to Miles. "Glad you made it," he said, and waved to Zemel, who he did not know. "Hi. I'm Fish."

Orli grinned at Josh and began unloading her bag of supplies.

"We've got rockets and fire crackers and sparklers and spinners and roman candles and fountains and parachutes and I don't know what else we got," she said. "We got a lot. You gonna introduce me to your girlfriend or do I have to do it? Hi, I'm Orli Cooper."

She stuck out a hand to the blonde girl.

Zemel blinked as his name was called, a smile wiping away the worried look from his face. "Hey Miles!" He broke away from his sister, making his way over to the freckled boy. He stopped by his friend's side, looking to the two other boys. "I don't believe we've met..." Zemel said, smiling shyly. Someone still wasn't quite used to "groups" of people.

Ginger grinned, shaking Orli's hand. "Nice to meet you, Orli! I'm Ginger Renee." Course, she didn't bother to correct the girl; she wanted to see how Josh would react. She looked at the fireworks, grinning. "Wow...that's a lot of fireworks...." she said, admiring some of the bigger ones. Oooh, this was going to be so much fun!

Rit's words of weak warning buzzed in Vox's ears as he walked towards the destination listed on the random invitation that had been passed around, his interest to know what was going on outweighing the heat of the day and the irritation that was pressed upon him in the form or a belt that Port and Aft had forced onto his body.

He continued to walk and finally reached the spot, at least he thought it was the spot based on the number of people there, and his dark eyes surveyed the group to see if he knew anyone. He did - in fact he knew four of them - and a little frown tugged at the ends of his mouth. One of them he couldn't touch, one of them was too annoying to touch, and two of them. . . he hadn't decided on yet.

The others? Fair game, unless one of those who knew him cried out a warning.

" . . . . "

He started down towards them, his feet pressing into the sand and creating a feeling that was rather new. He'd never been to the ocean, the beaches of the lakes being different, but Vox kept that inside for now as he approached.

Miles smiled at both his friends, glad they were able to meet at last. "Zemel's one of my best friends." He told Fish. One of the two--Fish was the other. He looked to the blonde. "I'm glad you could come." He said, cheerfully. "I thought your mom might have said no." Course, Stasia really wasn't the kind of mom to say no to this kind of thing.

Joshua blushed and mumbled something. "She's not my girlfriend." He said, with a slight frown. Sister of future girlfriend, maybe. Sister of best friend, yes. But girlfriend? Yuck! The very thought made him feel sick. Eventually, he recovered, and smiled at his friends. "Yeah, there's a lot of fireworks." He agreed. "Are we going to set them all off?"
PostPosted: Fri Jul 03, 2009 9:20 pm

"What else would we do with them?" asked Orli, giving Josh a look that clearly inquired, 'are you stupid or something?' "Hey, Fish, pass me that package of lighters!"

Fish managed a smile for Vox as the kelpie made his silent approach. "Hi," he said, and reached down into his bag for the box of bics. Finding it, he tossed it to Orli, who caught it neatly and opened it up.

"Glad you all could come," he said to everyone.

"Let's start this thing!" announced Orli, pulling a rocket out of her lineup. She jogged a few meters away, stuck it into the sand, lit the fuse, and ran back. The firework shot into the air and exploded into a shower of green sparks.

"Awesome!" said Fish.

"Anyone want a sparkler?" asked Orli, holding up a package.

Crowley glanced up at the newest arrival, curls all askew from his mad lunge, and decided to stay far away. Not like he was scared; dead girls scared him, weird stories at three in the morning scared him, but other kids didn't when there were more important things to do. There just was something utterly screwed up about a kid who didn't look excited at all when those other more important things were, you know, awesome.

You know. Like explosives. He watched the first rocket go off and let the teabot go - it skittered through the children to the remainder of the rocket with an air of concern. Shrugging, Crowley pulled an apple out of his bag- did no one else read the whole note, seriously - and raised his free hand. "If I can light it," he said, wanting the Bic more for experimental purposes than for any real distrust of Orli or Fish.

He walked over to Fish and Orli, taking this opportunity to ask Fish: "D'you know the creepy kid?" Of course, he found everyone there slightly odd - there was talk of girlfriends, like girls were appealing at all, and asking parents. The note, guys, seriously! He came from an alterdimensional plane of reality and he hadn't asked Antan or Amagi for permission.

Anyone who had asked, he decided, was more than a bit lame.

Zemel looked at Miles, shifting uncomfortably. "Well, technically....Mom doesn't know that Ginger or I are here. She thinks we went to bed early." he said, frowning. How had he let his sister talk him into this one? Honestly... His trail of thought was interrupted as the first rocket was shot off, the green sparks seeming to wipe the worry away. Wow....that was so cool looking! A small smile crept onto his face. He didn't notice the kelpie's approach, or he would have greeted him as well. He glanced over at Orli, holding his hand out. "I'd like one, please." he said, smiling. Maybe this wasn't such a bad idea...

Ginger giggled, thoroughly amused with Josh's reaction. "I'd like one too." she said, grinning. Wow, that first firework had been amazing! She couldn't wait to see the rest!

"I'll take one." Miles said, looking to Orli. Then he shook his head at Zemel. "You should have asked. I'm pretty sure she would have said yes--probably would have wanted to come, too. Josh's mom did." He gave a chuckle. "But they're going to be doing their own fireworks at home later--so she said it was alright."

Joshua flashed a glare in Ginger's direction. Why was she giggling? Argh, girls. "I'll take one, too." He said, before giving his blonde friend another 'I am not your boyfriend!' look. Why did his friends have to tease him so much?
