This post is white for a reason. You shouldn't read this post unless you're Marina, Stasia, Matth, Thali or Ben. Or you're like Averi and want to know my secrets. *shifty eyes*

Future plot~
Ha, I can't believe you fell for this post! I'm not really going to be so silly as to actually post my plots. ...Are you still reading?... You know, Marina and Stasia already know all this. I'm pretty sure Thali knows this too. If she doesn't, she will now. Oh well!

My ideas are never in order, and will confuse anyone who attempts reading them anyway.

Joshua's talent develops as he grows. He can create emotions with his music. He seems to be able to cause everyone in the room to feel what he's going through at the time. Generally, a positive effect. He has a musical sensitivity and can often sense what others are feeling. He can control emotions with song. So you probably wouldn't want him to sing a love song. He can cure the common cold, and other minor maladies. He always knows where/when people are. He seems to have the gift of tongues, we're not sure.

Joshua has a fairy tale plotline. He likes to think of himself as someone who will save the day. Probably fault of Bishop, because she gave him the sword he now calls Narsil. So named because Thali foolishly decided to read him The Fellowship of the Ring. He tends to be protective, and worries about what people are feeling.

Josh becomes very protective of his sister. When/if he gets one.
Joshua has to meet Matth and Aife in Rp! Thali's looking forward to meeting the Fae as well.
Plan to tease Thali because she has to realize she's married and has to stop crushing on Matth at some point.
Plan to have a PRP with Vate and Stasia, because I'm epic like that.
Josh needs a PRP with Nataya too when he grows; so his crush can develop. He's fascinated that the sugar plum fairy exists, and is determined to impress her. Anyway; she's nice; so she must like him, right? Marina can ignore this plot all she wants, but she admits it's awesome.
Another PRP with Gal due.
Maybe another with Neffy soon too.
PRP With Kash promised.
We also need a PRP with Luc. They can't be best buds without actually playing together.
Plan to have Josh visit Stasia's house.
Vate needs to go on another date with Stasia.
Thali should tell Stasia her history, even if Stasia won't believe her.
Vate and Thali's history should be revealed. Ben will get upset, and probably Stasia too. Oh well. They can't help their past.
Vate's parents show up? What is Vate's real job under Thali's father? Assassin? As if.
Averi should show up at some point and scare Thali. That'll be fun. Maybe Josh gets kidnapped and helps the father daughter pair get along? Hm.. He's pretty good at helping people. Maybe! I'll have to consider this plot later. When he grows and his skills are developed.
Joshua should meet up with a pirate. He's never gone treasure hunting.
Maybe he and Luc could pretend.
Another PRP with Ginger and Zemel.
Tease Vate, just because I can. Wait, I already do that.
Must stop editing this post.
Stop threatening to kill off Ben.

Guardian PRPs

You call this a date?
http://www.gaiaonline.com/guilds/viewtopic.php?t=14475025
Vate meets up with Stasia, with Almie. The elf isn't handling his new daughter as well as he'd hoped. So he asks Stasia for help.

Grown-up talk

How annoying. Joshua dragged his mother to the park, and she won't play with him. Thali meets Rit, and they talk.

Thali sighed. Vate had been sensitive ever since he'd recieved his daughter, whom she'd never seen. But now that it was his birthday..

Well, I suppose one hundred-five could seem fairly old. To a mortal. For an elf of Lynwood such as Vate to worry... It was like a thirteen year old worrying about starting middle school. There was no reason to. It perplexed Thali greatly.

Vate was not only feeling melancholy that day. He felt as if everyone had forgotten his birthday. ...Despite that his so called 'baby' had chosen to have a growth spurt of three feet over night. She was now taller than Joshua.

Vate sighed. Thali hadn't had a big celebration either. She was two days older than he was. He shouldn't be any different. After all... She was a princess. She was more important.

But he'd been hinting to Stasia that his birthday was coming up. He'd hoped she would catch on... Apparently not..

Thali didn't really feel like reminding him that Stasia had celebrated with him yesterday. She rolled her eyes. Vate had a short term memory.

Green is Marina, Black is me.

Quote:

Christmas Eve....what a wonderful time of year! Especially in a certain house that sat on the outskirts of Halloweentown. The outside of the home lacked in decoration, but it was the only place. Inside, there were garlands on every wall and door, and an over-decorated pine tree in the corner. The smell of cookies and treats and hot chocolate wafted through the house. Stasia, Nataya, 'Zuba, Ginger, and Zemel were all sitting on the couch, watching the Spongebob Christmas Special for the umpteenth time.

Thali had never been to Stasia's house, but she hazarded a guess. If it was the wrong place, she supposed she could always go to Vate's. Since Ben had locked her out of her house, she had no where else to go; and it was stupid to stay in the freezing weather. She knocked on the door, wiping her eyes with one hand.

"I'll get it!" Nataya said, smiling and hopping up from the couch. She made her way to the door, opening it. "Miss Thali, what are you doing here?" she asked, blinking and stepping to side. "Come it! It's freezing outside; you must be cold."
Thali nodded, forced a smile and walked into the house. "Thank you," She said, shivering. "Is your mother home?"

Nataya nodded, motioning to the couch. "You look cold; I'll go get you some hot chocolate." she said, nodding before turning on heel to get the warm treats for the adult.

Stasia blinked, looking at Thali. "What are you doing out in weather like this?" she asked, moving away from the couch and the kids to move towards her fellow parent. "Shouldn't you be at home? It's Christmas Eve."

Thali thanked Nattie again, and headed towards Stasia. She frowned, and tried to keep her lower lip from trembling. "Ben kicked me out." She said, wiping a tear from her eye. "He doesn't want me to come back."

Stasia was slightly taken aback by this, but kept her composure. "'Zuba, honey, take the twins upstairs and play a bit, okay?" she said, smiling slightly at the kids.

'Zuba muttered under her breath, reluctantly leading the toddlers upstairs. She didn't see why they couldn't stay down there; it was their house too, but then again, adults were wierd.

Stasia led Thali to the couch, taking a seat in a near-by chair as she turned the television off. "Now, tell me what happened." she asked, worried.

Thali sat, sniffling. "I d-don't know what h-happened," She said. "He was so angry. He--" She rubbed her eyes. "He didn't say why!"

Stasia blinked; uh-oh, crying. She sucked when it came to comforting crying people. "Um....it's okay. I'm sure everything will work out." she said, smiling a little.

Nataya came out of the kitchen, hot chocolate with marshmallows and fresh-baked cookies in tow. "Miss Thali, what's wrong?" she asked, walking over and, after setting the treats on the coffee table, sitting next to the adult. "Don't cry....."

Thali sniffled. "I hope so.." She said, "I've never seen him so angry.. He said he never wanted to see me again!" she sniffed, and took the mug of hot chocolate.

She looked over at Nattie and gave her a watery smile. "Thank you." She said. "I'll try not to..."

Nataya gasped. "Who said that? That was an awful thing to say!" she said, shocked that someone could be so mean. She hugged the adult, as if trying to hug the hurtful words away.

Stasia showed the barest hint of a smile; her little girl was much better with dealing with upset people than she was. "I'm sure he didn't mean it..." she offered, patting the poor girl's knee.

Thali sniffed. "B-ben did." She said, taking a sip of hot chocolate. She returned Nattie's hug with one arm. "I'm not so sure," She looked at Stasia. "He wants a divorce, and he said I can't see Joshua and Vinny tomorrow."

Nataya blinked; why on Earth would Ben say such a thing? He seemed like such a nice guy. She listened to what the adult said, and let out a gasp. She couldn't believe it! Thali couldn't see Josh or Vinny for Christmas! That was awful.

Stasia looked to Nataya, sighing gently. "Baby doll, why don't you go upstairs with the others." she suggested; the child didn't need to hear this kind of stuff. She then looked at Thali, biting her lip. That had to be hard; she felt pity on the poor girl.

Nataya headed upstairs to her room quietly, walking past the twins' room, where they and 'Zuba were playing a game. She slipped into her room, starting to put her winter gear on. She was going to pay someone a visit.

Thali sniffed, and looked at Stasia. "I'm sorry," She said. "I'm ruining your Christmas too. I can leave, if you want." She took another sip of hot chocolate.

Stasia shook her head. "Nonsense. You're staying right her. It is way too cold out there; you'd turn into a Thali-cicle in this weather." she said, patting her shoulder. "Tomorrow, we'll find out what all this is about."

Nataya got her coat and other accessories on before closing her door. As much as she didn't want to break the rules, she knew Momma would never let her outside this late. So, without another word, she went to the window, opening it and climbing out carefully onto a small strip of roof. She closed the window then looked down. She gulped, the jump, using her wings to help her glide down gracefully into the back yard, away from the living room windows at the front of the house.

Thali nodded her thanks. "But tomorrow's Christmas. I'm supposed to be with Josh and Vinny.. And.." She wiped a tear from her face. "I just want to go home."

Stasia smiled gently. "We'll march over there first thing in the morning and I'll make sure you see the young ones." she said, nodding. She dared Ben to try and stop them.

It was freezing outside; the snow didn't help much, either. The girl trekked across the snowy tundra, aka the back yard, stopping at the fence to open and shut the gate as she passed. She then cut through the graveyard as she headed for Thali's house....all the way in Barton.

Thali looked relieved for a moment, then she sniffed. "But what if they don't want to see me either?" She asked. If Ben was turning the boys against her, she didn't know what she'd do.

Stasia put a hand on Thali's shoulder. "Of course they will want to see you." she said, smiling lightly. "You're their mother; they love you. Why wouldn't they want to see you?"

Nataya was freezing cold, but she kept going, remember the way from when they'd gone to decorate the tree with Joshua.

Thali sighed. "Ben might tell them something," She said. "He really doesn't seem to want to see me. Maybe he didn't like his present and that's why he's so mad.."

Ben was outside getting the paper when he spotted Nattie. "Nattie! Why are you out so late?" He called. "You must be frozen!" He insisted on her coming inside.
Stasia sighed, not sure what to say. "Ben could never turn the boys against you." she said, her tone showing exactly how sure she was and how much confidence she had in this fact.

Nattie stumbled in the door, her legs numb from the cold. "I...I..." she trailed off a shiver ran through her. She was just so cold...what little protection her coat had offered had not been enough to shield her from the biting winter winds.

Thali looked at Stasia, forcing a smile. "I hope you're right. Ben'll have to let me in to get the animals anyway. He doesn't like cats.. Where's Vate? I thought he was supposed to be with you."

Ben led her in, getting her a cup of hot chocolate and a blanket. He wrapped the blanket around her, and handed her the cup after sitting her down on the couch. "Why are you out alone?" He asked, concerned.
The halfling smiled. "Of course I'm right. Aren't I always?" she said, then though a moment. "Don't answer that." she added, chuckling. "Vate is going to stop by later for dinner. He's a bit odd, but he seems nice."

Nataya took a sip of hot chocolate, keeping the warm cup clasped in her hands. She looked up at Ben, taking a breath before explaining. "Well, Momma and the others and I were watching Spongebob's Christmas, the Thali showed up and she was upset even if she didn't say she was, I could feel she was, and she was crying and said she couldn't see Joshua and VIncent, which I know would be horrible cause Momma would feel horrible if she couldn't see us any day, but to imagine it on a holiday and I tried to cheer Thali up but I couldn't and I didn't know what to do and and......" She had to stop to take a breath.

Thali nodded. "Vate's always been that way." She said, covering up her mouth before sneezing. "It's really cold out there." She said. "I don't remember it ever being so cold."

Ben didn't know what to say. He hadn't expected Thali to cry, or go to Stasia's. He suddenly felt awkward. If Nattie was this cold-- what would have happened to Thali if she hadn't had a friend to turn to? "We had a fight." He said reluctantly. "So I told her not to come back."

Stasia nodded once. "I figured as much." she said, chuckling. She blinked as the elf beside her sneezed, reaching over to the corner-table to get a tissue to hand to her. "It is awfully cold, isn't it...."

Nataya looked up at him with wide eyes. "Why?" she asked, drawing her knees to her chest. "Thali doesn't know what caused the fight....I asked her...." All she wanted to do was help Miss Thali so she could spend Christmas with her family, just like it showed in all the Christmas movies.

Thali took the tissue gratefully. "Thank you." She said, before sneezing into it. "I'm not supposed to get sick.." She muttered. "This shouldn't be happening..." But it wasn't true that elves never got sick. While it was true that elves rarely did; they could get sick from stress, or being upset.

Ben sighed, and tried to find a way to explain it to the girl. But why wouldn't Thali know? It was her fault that the fight had started. "Thali doesn't love me anymore." He said. "She's been seeing other people for a long time behind my back. I've only just found out."

She simply smiled back. "No problem." she said, before standing up. "Well, it looks like you're sick now....I'll go fix you some chicken noodle soup, okay?" That always helped her when she didn't feel well.

Nataya was definitely confused. "But she does love you." she said, frowning slightly. "Why would she cry over you if she didn't? And what do you mean seeing other people?" She took another sip of her hot chocolate, waiting for an answer.

Thali nodded, she'd heard chicken noodle soup helped with colds. She frowned. "What if Ben comes here?" She asked. "I don't want--" She sneezed again. "Argh. I hate being sick."

Ben frowned. "She might have been crying because I told her she couldn't see Joshua and Vinny tomorrow." He said. "She wasn't crying about me. And.. I mean, she was doing things she should only do with me with other people."
Stasia looked at her, smiling slight. "Just rest and take it easy, okay?" she said, chuckling and shaking her head before stepping into the kitchen, pulling some chicken out of the fridge. She was going to fix it for dinner, but Thali needed it more.

Nataya shook her head; she was sure that wasn't it. Thali was nice; she'd never do that. "She wouldn't...." she said, sounding confident. Miss Thali wouldn't do something so un-nice.

Thali nodded and leaned against the back of the couch. Rest sounded good. But taking it easy? What did that mean?

Ben sighed, "But she has." He said. "She's been sneaking out every night for the past two weeks."
As the cooking commenced and progressed, the smell of chicken and herbs permeated from the kitchen, filling the house with the warm and welcoming aroma.

Nataya frowned. "Momma's been sneaking out too....she was buying gifts! Maybe Thali was buying gifts too." It wasn't working....she wasn't fixing anything!

Thali could smell the soup already. But she didn't feel very hungry. "Do you think Ben will forgive me for whatever I did?" She asked.

Ben considered it. "But why didn't she tell me where she was going? And if she was buying gifts, why'd she always come home past six am?"
"I'm sure he will." Stasia said, nodding once. "They say love can fix all problems." She leaned against the counter, letting the soup simmer on the stove a bit.

Nataya thought a moment. "Maybe she was looking for a gift for you. And she was out so late because she couldn't find the perfect one to make you smile." she suggested, biting her lower lip.

Thali wasn't so sure. "He seemed really angry. It was scary." She said, before coughing. "He just shoved me outside."

Ben frowned, and shook his head. "No," He said, "I don't think she would do that. I'll give you a ride home, if you like. Then you won't have to be out in the cold."
Stasia remained silent, finding herself at a loss for words. She closed her eyes, sighing. Ben still loved Thali, right? He had to...right?

That's when it hit her; she hadn't helped Thali....not at all. She'd come all this way for no reason. She looked at Ben with wide eyes; she hadn't convinced him at all. That meant no "Christmas miracle" like on the television shows. She then began to cry. She'd failed to help someone.

Thali frowned. "What if he doesn't let me see Joshua and Vinny anymore?"

Ben hugged Nattie. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to make you cry." He said. "Is Thali still at your place? Maybe we can talk while I'm there. If you help me. Maybe I can tell her why she's made me so mad."
Stasia opened her eyes. "I have some friends who could get the boys for us. You'd get to see your boys." she said, her tone serious.

Nataya nodded, wiping her eyes as she tried in vain to stop crying. "I....I'll help." she said, nodding. "But....promise you won't get mad and throw her out of our house or yell?" After all, she didn't want him scaring her younger siblings or worse, making 'Zuba mad.

Thali gave a weak half smile. "Thank you," She said gratefully. "I don't know what I'd do without them."

Ben frowned, and nodded. "I'll try." He promised, "As long as she doesn't lie."
The halfling smiled as she ladeled out a bowl of the soup. "It's not a problem." she said, chuckling. "I don't know what I'd do if I couldn't see my younguns...."

Nataya nodded, smiling a little. "I doubt she'll lie." she said, confident in Thali. After all, why would she lie?

Thali wiped the last tears from her eyes. "I don't think Ben's cruel enough to keep them away from me, really." She said.

Ben's lips twitched, he couldn't help it. "Let's go then," He said.

Stasia smiled, sitting back down in the chair and holding the soup out to Thali. "Don't worry about it for now, okay?" she said, smiling.

Nataya nodded, slowly standing up. She then glanced around. "Where are Joshua and Vincent?" she asked.

Thali took the soup, and nodded. "I can try." She said, taking a spoonful of soup. "This is really good," She said, surprised. The way Joshua complained about chicken noodle had made her wonder.

Ben forced a smile. "Vate insisted on taking them to his house the moment he heard about Thali and I fighting." He said.
Stasia smiled. "'Course it's good. It's home made. Home made food is the best." she said, nodding once. "There's more in the kitchen; I made extra incase the kids want any."

Nataya nodded. "That was smart of him." she said softly. "It hurts us kids to see parents fight. Hm, I wonder if he'll bring them when he comes over for dinner tonight."

Thali smiled, but paused as she heard the door bell. "Think that's Vate?" She asked. But it wasn't Vate.

Ben walked into the house. "Hello Stasia," He said. "Nattie wanted to be brought back home so, here we are."
Stasia blinked, looking up. "Nataya? I thought you were upstairs...." she said, then it hit her. "You snuck out?" she said, not sounding mad, just surprised. She never thought her little girl would sneak out like that.

Nattie frowned slightly, the guilt obvious on her face. "I'm sorry...." she said, looking down. "I...I just wanted to help make Christmas happy."

Thali was just as surprised to see Ben. She ate the rest of her soup quickly and tried to hide her sneeze.

Ben hugged Nattie. "Thank you," He whispered. He stared. "Thali's sick?" He asked surprised.
Stasia looked at Ben, her eyes cold and her tone neutral as she spoke. "Yes, she is." she said calmly. She would be decent; after all, Ben had helped her when 'Zuba had gone missing.

Nataya smiled lightly, hugging back. "You're welcome." she said softly.

Ben's eyes widened. For a moment he looked concerned. "Isn't that bad? Elves aren't supposed to get sick! Is she dying?" After that, he recovered. "How'd she get sick?"
Stasia remained calm. "It's just a cold." she said simply. "It could have been brought on by a whole slew of things: prolonged exposure to harsh weather, emotional or physical stress, maybe a mix of both...."
Thali took a tissue, and coughed into it. "It sure feels like dying." She managed.

Ben frowned. "But elves aren't supposed to get sick." He said, staring at Stasia. "Ever." He paused, remembering how cold Nattie had been when she'd gotten to his house. And he'd forced Thali out with a jacket. "It's my fault, isn't it?"
Stasia looked at Thali, rolling her eyes. "You are not dying." she said, pulling the throw blanked off the back of the couch to drape over Thali. She then looked at Ben. "That's not exactly true...while illness is rare, it's still possible. And yes, most likely." She saw no need to lie to the boy.
Thali was grateful for the blanket, and curled up into it.

Ben sighed, so it was his fault. He felt bad, but not bad enough to invite Thali back home. "Did she say anything to you?" He asked.
Stasia took a breath, keeping herself calm. "She said she didn't know what made you so mad." she said simply, staring at the ground. "As far as she knows, she hasn't done any wrongdoing."

Ben frowned, and looked at the ground. "I thought she would know. She's the one that caused all this." He said. If Thali did know, why would she play stupid? And how had she gotten sick so fast?
The "teen" did not look, in any way, shape, or form, amused. She crossed her arms, eyes falling on the human. "And how, pray tell, did she cause this? You're the one who threw her out into the cold."
Ben scowled, and glared at his wife's friend. "Look. She deserved it. She's been sneaking out at night to be with Matth." He snarled.
Stasia tried to keep a straight face, but the snickers did her in. She started laughing out loud. "You think she...and Matth?" This was the funniest thing she'd ever heard.
Her laughter surprised him. He frowned at her, confused. "What's funny?" He asked, recovering and putting the scowl back on his face. "I'm serious!"

By this time, Thali had fallen asleep.
Stasia quelled her laughter, then walked over the Thali, gently brushing her hair away to reveal her un-marked, un-wounded neck. "Do you see puncture wounds here? No you do not. If she was with Matth, she'd have two nice little marks here." She chuckled. "Besides, Matth wouldn't do anything with a married woman."
Ben's eyes widened. "Well, if she hasn't been with Matth, she must be seeing someone else." He said, frowning. "Vate keeps hinting at it."
Stasia looked at him. "He better not be." she said, calmly. "If he is, I am SO going to have a talk with him...."
Suddenly Vate burst into the house. "Sorry I'm late!" He said, closely being followed by Joshua and Vinny. "Thali and Ben had a fight and I've been taking care of the kids.." He paused when he saw Ben there. "Did Thali kick you out?" He joked. But then he grew serious as he spotted Thali on the couch. "She's sick?"
Vinny and Josh ran up the stairs. "Zemel!" Joshua cried. "I'm here!"

Stasia looked up at Vate. "It's okay. Vinny, Josh, the others are upstairs." she said, smiling at the kids before returning her attention to the elf. "Yes. She's sick. And Ben here say's she's been cheating with you."

Vate turned pale. "But elves can't..." he started, and glared at Ben. "You idiot!" He said. "Thali's completely commited to you!"
Stasia looked at Ben. "Well, care to explain yourself?" she asked, moving to stand next to Vate.

Nataya looked to Josh and Vinny, holding her hands out. "C'mon....let's go upstairs." she said, wanting to get them out of here before the sparks started.

Ben frowned. "Why else would she be sneaking out at night?" He asked.

Vate shrugged and sighed. "Someone's jealous.." He muttered.

Joshua took Nataya's hand happily, but Vinny was more reluctant. "Where's 'Zuba?" He asked.
Stasia crossed her arms. "Well, it IS the Christmas season...." she said, barely keeping her tone polite.

Nataya smiled at the younger kids; their hands felt warm against her still-chilled ones. "'Zuba's upstairs, with Ginger and Zemel." she explained.

Vinny's eyes widened. "You mean she gets along with them now?" He asked hopefully.

Joshua was quick to interupt. "No more running away?" He asked.

Ben's eyes narrowed. "Nattie said that too. She seemed to think Thali had done nothing wrong."
Nattie sighed. "She doesn't exactly get along with them....she barely tolerated them." she said, sounding sad about this fact. She wished 'Zuba got along with the twins; it would make everyone happier.

Stasia shrugged. "Children sometimes see things long before us adults notice...." she commented.

Ben frowned, "But how would she know?" He asked. "Thali probably lied to her."

Vate rolled his eyes. "Thali may run away-- and she might not like being told what to do," He said. "But I've never known her to lie."

Vincent sighed, he'd wanted his friend to get along with her siblings. "Maybe soon she'll like them?" He asked, hopefully. "Daddy and Mommy have fights too, but I think they love each other. So maybe they're like that."
Stasia frowned. "Nataya would know if she lied or not; she's a good judge of that." she said calmly. "If Nataya supports her, then so do I."

Nataya smiled slightly. "Maybe. I hope so." she said, nodding once. She didn't think so, though, as much as she wanted it.

Thali stirred, and opened her eyes. "Is he still here?" She asked, sitting up and looking at Ben. She yawned. She looked at Vate, "Joshua and Vinny are here?" She asked.

Ben didn't reply. Vate nodded, and gave Thali a half smile. "They've been worried about you." He said.

Vinny smiled at his friend. "'Zuba!" He ran into the room. "Hi!"
Stasia smiled. "They're upstairs. But right now, we need to sit down and talk things out. We are adults, after all." She said, looking at Ben as she spoke.

'Zuba looked up, offering a small half-smile. "Hi." she said simply. Sometimes, one wondered if she was even able of showing strong emotion.

Thali turned away, facing the back of the couch. "I don't want to talk to him." She said. "Send him home, and let him ruin someone elses Christmas."

Vate rolled his eyes. "I don't really blame her," He muttered.

Ben frowned, he hadn't expected Thali to react like this.
Stasia sighed, ignoring Vate. "Thali...can't we act like adults and talk this out?" she said, making sure she stood between them and the door. "Sulking like a child won't help anything."
Thali turned to glare at Stasia, purposely avoiding Ben's gaze. "Would you want to talk to someone who kicked you out of your own home for no reason?" She asked.

"Now wait just a minute.." Ben started, glaring. "You caused this!"
Stasia ignored the glare. "Yes, I would, because I would want to settle things calmly and peacefully." she said. She then looked to Ben. "No accusing." she said firmly, taking a breath. "Let's use "I" terms. Don't place blame, or anything, just explain how you feel."
Thali rolled her eyes. She doubted anything Ben said would be 'calm' or 'peaceful'. "I want to know why he kicked me out." She said, keeping her back turned.

Ben narrowed his eyes and scowled. "You know why!" He snapped. "You've been cheating on me for the past two weeks and you know it!"
"Benjamin Sadril!" Stasia said, putting her hands on her hips. Sure, she looked younger than him, but she certainly didn't act younger. "No accusations! Now sit down and calm down; no one's leaving this room until we have civily and politely settled this."
Thali couldn't help it, she smirked. It was fairly easy to upset Ben, she figured. "I want to know why I can't see Joshua and Vinny on Christmas." She said.

Ben sat down, glaring. "You know why." He said, as civilly and politely as he could manage. "You've been cheating on me with one of your old friends, and I'm sick of it."
Stasia crossed her arms, having an idea of who this "old friend" was. "You think she's cheating with Vate?" she asked, looking dead at Ben.
Ben frowned, and nodded. "Have you seen the way he looks at her? He's obviously in love with her!"

Vate glared. "I don't look at her in any special way," He muttered. "If I do, it's because I pity her because of the way you treat her! You treat her like crap! Because she's an elf, right? You hate elves! You loved her when you thought she was human, why does that have to change now?"
Stasia chuckled. "He better not be." she said simply, looking at Ben. "That could be a problem, considering we're dating." She looked at Vate, sighing. "Calm down....getting mad won't solve a thing."
Ben frowned. "He's dating you?" He asked suspiciously.

Vate rolled his eyes, the anger seemed to vanish in an instant. He didn't want to make Stasia mad. "Who do you think I was talking about?"

Thali had taken out her ipod and was ignoring the entire conversation.
Stasia nodded. "Yes. He is." she said, frowning right back at Ben. She looked at Thali, snatching the Ipod away. "Pay attention." she said calmly, shoving the device in her pocket.
Thali frowned as her ipod was snatched. "But.." She whined. "I want to listen to Daft Punk.."

Ben couldn't believe it. "So you were talking about Stasia?" He asked
Stasia looked at Thali. "You need to pay attention to the situation at hand. Now, why don't you tell Ben what you've really been up to, cause I find it hard to believe you were cheating on him."
Thali frowned, and turned around so she was facing the group. "I can't tell him what I was doing." She said.

Ben's eyes narrowed, and his eyebrows raised to his hairline. "So you were cheating!" He snarled.
"Benjamin!" Stasia said, narrowing her eyes at him. "She did NOT say that. Speak out of turn again and I will not hesitate to beat you over the head with a wooden spoon. Do you understand me?" She then looked at Thali. "Please, just tell him so this can all be over with."
Thali sighed, and looked at the ground. "I was out buying presents for you." She muttered. "I'd already gotten Joshua and Vinny's things."

Vate frowned, "I only called to help her figure out what you'd want." He said. "She didn't know what to get you. I suppose it's in the garage."
Stasia looked at Ben. "See?" she said, sitting on the arm of the couch. "Buying presents; that's all."
Ben's eyes widened. "That's really all you were doing?" He asked.

Thali sneezed before anwsering. "Well, not everything.." She muttered.
Stasia looked at Thali. "What else were you doing?" she asked, handing the sick girl another tissue.
Thali's lips twitched. "I'm sorry I lied to you," She said looking up at Ben. "When I said we were going to have a baby. We're not."
Stasia patted Thali's shoulder. "Aw, I'm sorry...." she said, offering the other girl a smile.
Vate was suspicious. Thali had put on too much weight to not be due soon. Why was she lying?

Thali's eyes sparkled with mischeif. "We're not just having one baby. We're having twins!"
Stasia grinned, looking from Thali to Ben. "Congratulations! When are you two due?" Well, this certainly lightened the mood up a bit. What great news!
Ben fell back into his chair. "Twins....?" He echoed. Twins? He could hardly handle Joshua and Vinny. Two girls the same age would be horrible!
Thali gave Stasia a small smile. "Febuary, I think." She said.

Stasia grinned. "That's great!" she said, smiling. Silently, she wondered what it'd be like to be pregnant....eh, too bad she planned on having kids after Nattie and 'Zuba were teens....
Ben had closed his eyes. Vate couldn't resist grinning. "I think he's fainted guys." He said.

Thali sat up and sneezed. "Poor Ben." She said, "I hope I didn't scare him too much."
Stasia smiled. "Poor guy....he's been through a lot...he should get home and get some bed rest." she said, almost feeling sorry for the guy.
Vate shook his head. "He deserves what he got." He said stubbornly. "He made her sick."
Stasia looked at Vate. "It was just a misunderstanding." she said softly.

Vate came into the living room, fuming. He shoved a blue haired bundle into Thali's arms, before sitting down. "There, happy?" He asked.

Thali resisted a grin. "She's adorable! What's her name?" She asked, looking at her one time fiance. The elf seemed furious. Why? He had wanted a child.

Vate turned his golden glare onto the older elf. "Almira." He said flatly. That would give him the revenge he wanted. "I've been calling her Almie."

Thali's smile faded. Almira was her mother's name. She searched Vate's eyes for a malicious glint, and said, "A beautiful name for a beautiful child." She paused, and looked around the room. "Josh, Vinny! Come meet your new cousin!"

The two toddlers had been eavesdropping in the hall. Joshua came out first. "A girl?" He asked, surprised. He looked up at Vate with his big green eyes. "I thought you wanted a boy!" Vinny was looking at Almira with admiration.

"She has blue hair like Uncle Vate's skin!" He said. That obviously made her better-- he didn't have blue hair.

Vate sighed. "I did--I do." He amended. "But as Stasia says she'll help me take care of her," He gestured to the infant in Thali's arms, "I think we'll be okay."

"Almie!" Joshua called, looking over his shoulder. "Come on!" His younger, though now much taller cousin was lagging behind. How could he protect her from the enemy dragons if she wasn't with him? They were outside enjoying the 'warm' weather after a long coldfront. Now it was forty degrees, and the snow was slowly turning to slush. You'd think that'd keep kids inside. Not Joshua.

Almie rolled her eyes. Ever since she'd grown her cousins had decided that she would need protection. Especially since she'd met a boy called Duncan. Thus providing the 'enemy dragon'. "I'm coming!" She moved beside Josh.

Vinny was right behind her. "Kept watch be'ind!" He told Josh. The older boy nodded. This was acceptable.

"Good." He said, "No dragons there?" He asked, straining to stand on his tip toes to see over Vinny's shoulder.

Vinny shook his head. "Not one," He reassured his brother. Joshua looked relieved and nodded.

"Course, they wouldn't dare challenge us. Uncle Vate's here." The two boys looked at their uncle with admiration. Of course Uncle Vate could protect Almie! He was the greatest elven warrior ever. Or that's what he'd told the two toddlers.

Almie rolled her eyes again. These two 'protecters of justice' were just as strange as her father. She'd never understand men, or boys for that matter. But Duncan had seemed nice.

"Come on Almie!" Josh said, looking at his cousin. "The dragons will find us!"

RP is still in progress, but.. Marina is green
Quote:
Stasia sat in the kitchen, enjoying her lunch that consisted of Fritos and a couple of turkey-and-ham Hot Pockets. Not the most nutritious, but hey, it was fast, quick, and filling. Good enough for her.

Ginger and Zemel sat on the floor near the table, eating Cheerios and sliced-up bananas. Ginger was busy mushing hers together in the bowl, apparently having fun with creating a mini-mess. On the other hand, Zemel was busy making miniature sandwiches, using the banana's as "bread".

'Zuba sat, perched in a chair as she read "Brown Bear". She'd already eaten; she was just sitting in their with them for "family bonding". Psh. She was already bonded with Nataya and Mother; that was enough for her. Then again, 'Zemel wasn't that annoying...

Nataya smiled, happily cleaning up some of the dishes. She'd just finished her lunch, so she decided to do something useful. That way, Momma had less work to do, so she wouldn't be too tired.

Joshua tugged his mother's hand as they walked down the streets of Durem. Thali herself was rather nervous; she was used to the cheeriness of Barton. She'd only been in Durem a few times; well, twice.

Joshua seemed unbothered. "Come on! Ginger and Zemel invited me and we're going to.." He paused, he never knew what he and Ginger would do.

His mother smiled, and led the boy to his friends' house. "Well, if they're waiting for you." She said. "Maybe you should knock first."

If Stasia had known about the twins inviting someone over, she would have waited and served lunch to everyone. But, as it was, she had no idea they were expecting guests. So, she was surprised when she heard a knock on the door. Finishing off her last Hot Pocket and shoving the Fritos in the microwave, she headed for the front door, opening it. "Hello, Thali and kidlet." she greeted, smiling at them. "What can I do for you?"
Joshua walked inside quickly. "Zemel!" He called, "Ginger! I'm here!" He spotted his two friends and waved at them.

Thali seemed distracted by something. "Joshua says he was invited," She said. "Maybe we can talk while the kids play upstairs?" She asked, tilting her head. She was making sure her ears were covered.
Ginger grinned, waving to Josh. "Hi, Josh!" she called out, giggling and waving him over. "We got 'nanas and Cheer-Ohs!" she said, holding out her bowl of mush as an example. "Want some?"

Zemel smiled, holding up his mini sandwiches as well. My, didn't they look yummy? "Glad you come." he said said, chuckling once.

"Well, I wasn't expecting anyone today...ah well. No harm done." Stasia said, smiling. She then blinked. "Um, okay. But I think we should be the ones to go upstairs; the kids are eating lunch in the kitchen."

Joshua shook his head. "No thanks," He said. "Mommy and I have pizza later. He smiled at Zemel, "Want to play after lunch?"

Thali nodded. "I'm sorry about that. He told me Zemel'd asked you first. But upstairs sounds good." She put a strand of hair behind her ear. "See?" She asked, shrugging.

Ginger smiled. "Okay!" she said, going back to eating her mush with her fingers. It was a bit messy, but that just made it fun.

Zemel grinned, nodding. "Yes!" he said, gulping down the rest of his lunch. He knew Momma said not to do that, but he really wanted to play!

Nataya took Zemel's plate, washing it in the sink. "Hey, Josh!" she said cheerfully over her shoulder, grinning.

'Zuba just sat in her chair, watching them with an unamused stare.

Stasia chuckled. "Eh, it's nothing to worry about. No one asked me, but it's cool." She then blinked. "Yeah.....what about your ear?" she asked, her tone calm.

Josh looked up at Nattie. "Hi Nattie!" He said happily. "Do you want to play too? Maybe 'Zuba too.." He'd only met 'Zuba once, at the park. He was slightly nervous around her.

Thali blinked in surprise. "It's been the cause of all of the fights Ben and I've been having lately.. You know... he really doesn't like elves.."

Nataya smiled. "I'd love to play with you guys." she said, scrubbing the plate. "As soon as I finish these up, though, okay?"

'Zuba deliberated for maybe a second before stating her answer. "No." she said, her tone calm and neutral. Now, if Vinny were here, it might be different, but since her friend wasn't here, she saw no reason to play anywhere near the gruesome twosome.

Stasia crossed her arms. "Why not?" she asked, slightly interested.

Joshua smiled at Nattie, and nodded. "Okay," He said. If 'Zuba didn't want to play, that was okay too. "What do you guys want to play?"

Thali sighed. "I don't know. He never has. I think he had some bad experience with them and.. Well, when I told him my background, he told me he didn't want me in the house."

"Let's play ex-pore-ers!" Ginger piped up, grinning. She frowned as Nataya picked her up, knowing what was going to happen.

"Hmmm, I don't think I've played that before." Nataya said, wiping off Ginger's face and hands with a damp washcloth, cleaning away the banana.

"I dunno...." Zemel said, thinking. He was cautious of ANY game that his sister thought up; which was probably smart on his part.

Stasia made a sound in her throat. "He shouldn't hold that against you. After all, how long have you two been together?"

Joshua smiled, this was the first idea of Ginger's he'd actually liked. "Ex-pore-ers sounds fun! Maybe pirate ex-pore-ers?" He asked hopefully. "We can look for treasures and things!"

Thali shrugged. "Well.. I've known Ben... for a long time." She paused. "But he doesn't remember that. He helped me get away from Vate.. You know Vate, right?"

Ginger nodded, listening to Josh. "Awesomely-awesome!" she said, giggling. "We be pirate ex-pore-ers! The couch can be out big boat!" She then looked to Zemel, poking him. "You draw our map." It wasn't a request; it was an order.

Zemel frowned, nodding as he complied, standing up to go get a piece of paper. How come he had to draw it? Hmph. Then again, since it was his sister who'd requested it, so he'd do it.

Stasia tilted her head to the side, crossing her arms as she looked at her. "Just tell me. It's better for me to find out now than to find out later." she said calmly.

Joshua nodded happily. "Nattie can be captian if she wants!" He said. "She's oldest-- so she's the boss, kay?" His Mommy had always said to respect his elders. Was Nattie an elder? He didn't know. But he guessed he should obey.

Thali sighed. "Vate wanted to take me back to Lynwood. Ben helped me escape before he could take me away from home."

Nattie smiled, giggling as she turned around to face the others, done with her task. "Sure; being captain sounds like fun." she said cheerfully.

Ginger frowned a little; she wanted to be captain! But, Josh had a point; Nataya was older. "I be, um, second captain!" she declared, smiling a little. That would work, right? Right. Of course it would.

Stasia blinked. "Lynwood? Where's that?" she asked, a bit confused. "And why would he try to take you there?"
Joshua nodded. "I'll be third captain!" He said, nodding. It was only fair that Ginger was second captain. Nattie was her sister.

Thali looked surprised when Stasia didn't know where Lynwood was. "You know... The elven kingdom of Lynwood... The fae used to live there and... You know. The place they were exiled from." She paused, she really didn't want to make Stasia angry. "...You see.." She started, "I ran away."

"Zemel be four-d captain!" Ginger announced, laughing. "To ship! Race!" she said, and with that, made a mad dash for the couch. None of them would beat her; she was sure.

Stasia shrugged. "Never heard of it. Sorry." she said, leaning against the wall. She had no idea what this girl was rambling about, but she was being polite and listening to her. "Okay....why'd you run away?"

Joshua's eyes sparkled at the challenge. He raced over to the couch. "We tie!" He announced. Joshua knew it was best to tie. Then they both got prizes.

Thali sighed. If Stasia didn't know about Lynwood, maybe she shouldn't say anything. "Ask Matth. He probably knows all about it."

For maybe a nanosecond, a scowl crossed the toddler's face. But, as if it had never happened, a bright smile shone again. "Tie." she said, nodding once. She hated tying; it wasn't as good as being the only winner.

Zemel walked behind them, letting the two other kids win. After all, that would make them happy, right? Right. Besides, he didn't see the need to race, anyways... He noticed his sister's brief expression of disdain, but ignored it. He had to be seeing things; Ginger would never wear an expression like that. Never.

Nataya smiled, giggling as she watched the toddlers make a break for the couch. Following the little ones, she walked into the living room, perching on the arm of the couch. "Hmmm.....we'll need a flag..." she said thoughtfully.

Stasia shruged. "Alright..." she said, then paused. "Wait, how do you know about Matthias?" She didn't remember mentioning him to Thali; then again, one of the kids might have....

Joshua frowned at the scowl on Ginger's face. If she had wanted to win, he could have let her. He smiled and nodded at Nattie. "Big pirate flag!" He said.

Thali shrugged. "Oh, I think Nattie had mentioned him to me." She said. "He's a fae, right? Then he'll know all about Lynwood."

Ginger just smiled, as if the scowl had never happened. Of course, she didn't think the others had seen it, anyways. "We find bestest flag!" she said, giggling.

Zemel thought for a moment. "Use big towel?" he suggest, thinking. He'd seen a big towel in the bathroom; they could use that! Mommy wouldn't mind, right? Right.

Stasia just nodded; that made sense. "Yeah, he is....I'll ask him about it." she said, nodding once.

Josh nodded at Zemel. "Towl good!" He said happily. He always liked Zemel's ideas. "Maybe Nattie make it pretty?" He knew she liked to draw. He looked at Nattie. "Make flag pretty, kay? Pretty like you!"

Thali nodded. "You should call him," She said. "I can't tell you more unless you know about Lynwood's history."

Nattie smiled, giggling. "I don't think Momma would like us drawing on one of her good towels." she said, smiling. "I could draw on a piece of paper and tape it to the towel, though."

Stasia chuckled. "I would, but that technophobe doesn't own a phone." she said, shrugging. "I'll ask him about it next time I see him, 'kay?" Okay, so she'd probably forget, but it was the thought that counted, right?

Joshua smiled, "Okay!" He said. He nodded at Nattie. Her ideas were always good.

Thali frowned. "Well.. Nattie might know." She muttered. Nattie was good at telling who was lying and who wasn't. Thali really wanted her friend to know that she was telling the truth.

Nataya grinned, jumping up and running upstairs to get her sketchbook and crayons. This would be fun! She was already getting ideas on what to draw for their flag....

Ginger grinned. "We go get towel." she suggested, jumping off the couch and onto the floor. "We help!" After all, they couldn't let Nataya do everything, could they.

"But high up." Zemel said, frowning. "Can't reach! We all to little." I mean, it was all the way up on the third shelf! That seemed so far away...how could they possibly do it?

Stasia blinked. "How would Nataya know of the "Lynwood"? She's never left Gaia, or been somewhere I haven't." she said, not getting what Thali was saying. She believed her so far, but....

Thali sighed. "Nattie knows if people are telling the truth or not." She said. "In a few minutes, you will think everything I am about to tell you is a lie." Thali was used to this behavior, Ben had reacted that way.

Stasia crossed her arms. "I know. She is my daughter, after all...." she said, her tone calm. She knew that better than anyone. She then smirked, chuckling. "Really? Go ahead and try me." she said, waving her hand. "I've heard some crazy things in my life; I'll probably believe you."

Thali doubted this; but she decided to try. "I ran away because my parents tried to force me into marriage. Vate came after me, several times. It was important to our people that we were married. But I escaped."

Stasia gave Thali an odd look, but that's cause the whole concept of 'arranged/forced marriage' seemed alien to her. "Why was it such a big deal?" she asked, her tone still calm and open.

Thali sighed, she knew she'd have to tell the entire story now. "You won't laugh and call me crazy?" She asked, looking at her friend with narrowed eyes. "My parents are Averi and Almira; I'm their only heir." She shrugged. "They wanted someone powerful like Vate to be in line for the throne and..." She sighed again. "You probably don't believe me. Ben doesn't."

"I won't. Promise." Stasia said, nodding once. She listened, then blinked. "Throne...? Wait a minute, are you saying your royalty?" Okay, that definitely was a new one; she hadn't heard that before.

Thali nodded. "Guilty." She said. "At first I thought Vate came to Gaia to take me back again. He seems distracted, though."
Stasia just nodded. "Yeah....distracted." She then chuckled, shaking her head. "Tell me, if you're royalty, then why are you living in the Barton suburbs?" she asked. C'mon, if she was royalty, shouldn't she be able to afford something more ritzy than that?

Thali shrugged. "I've always thought we had a nice house." She said. "Anyway. I'm glad my parents don't send me anything. I don't want them knowing where I am. They'd take me back and then...." She fell silent. It was too terrible. She couldn't bring herself to say anymore.

"It's a nice house and all..." Stasia said, smiling slightly. She just nodded. She wasn't exactly sure if she really believed Thali or not...but for the moment, she'd just go with it. Then again, Thali did seem awfully sincere...

Thali frowned, she didn't know what to say. "It's okay if you don't believe me." She said. "I suppose it's not exactly normal.. You can ask Vate, if you like."

"Well, it is a bit hard to believe." she admitted, shrugging. "But, eh, I've heard weirder things before."

Nataya hummed softly as she taped the picture onto the towel. "There! Our pirate flag is done!" she said, holding it up, It was a smiling daisy, surrounded by clovers. How pirate-ish.

Thali gave a half smile. "Like children coming out of cabbages?" She asked.

Joshua smiled at the flag. "It looks pretty!" He said happily. Of course it was pretty, Nattie made it. Even if it wasn't pretty though, he would have said it was. "Now we can go sailing for treasure!"

Stasia chuckled. "Exactly." she said, smiling back. "So, anything else you need to tell me?"

"Very pretty." Zemel agreed, nodding. Everything big sister Nataya made was pretty. She was the awesomest artist he knew!

Ginger grinned. "We pretty pirates!" she said, standing on the arm of the couch. She'd taken the flag from Nataya, and was busy waving it in the imaginary wings.

Nataya smiled, giggling. "Thank you." she said, nodding. "Let's sail off, to adventure and treasure!" She pretended to hold up a map, and pointed. "Land off starboard bow!"

Thali shrugged, and pulled out a crinkled piece of paper. "Vate brought this messege." She said, unfolding it. "They knew he'd find me. He always does." She handed Stasia the letter. "They weren't happy to learn that I have a family and... well.." She tucked it back into her pocket. She didn't know how much she should tell Stasia.

Josh nodded at Ginger, and took a piece of paper. He rolled it up so it was like a telescope. He looked through it. "Land!" He said. "Maybe there's treasure!"

Stasia read it, her eyes narrowing. "He threatened your kids?" she said, her tone suddenly cold enough to make a snow man shiver. "He lays one hand on them, and so help me....what kind of scum threatens the innocent?"

"Treasure!" Ginger exclaimed, giggling, completely unaware of the serious situation outside. "We dig!" What kind of treasure were they going to find?

Thali winced. "It's nothing," She said, frowning. "They're just guessing. They'd never harm them.. They're just angry that I left and... Just don't do anything okay? Ben thinks I'm making it up and..."

Joshua nodded. "We'll find gold and shiny things and crowns and rocks and maybe even dimes!" He said happily. They could buy lots of stuff with dimes.

Stasia looked at Thali. "Just guessing? They have the kidlet's names on here...." she said, her tone a bit calmer than before. "I won't do anything as long as they don't do anything."

"Dimes?" Zemel asked, grinning. He liked dimes; they were all shiny and silvery and pretty! "I dig first! Want dimes!" he said, chuckling.

Nataya smiled, pretending to steer the boat. Playing pretend was okay, but playing pretend with friends was awesome!

When Thali caught sight of Vate, she could only describe him as 'terribly frightened'. His expression surprised her, because the elf was known to brag about his brave deeds as an assassin under the king of Lynwood. All of which were, as unlikely as it seems, true. Surely he was never afraid.

But he was. Vate was positively shaken. "Thali--" He managed, taking a breath. "There's a woman in my room-- claiming to be Almie!" Thali couldn't help it; she laughed.

Almie's race was dragonic. They matured much faster than elves, or any other race she'd ever come in contact with. Vate's reaction to his daughter's growth was priceless. It was if he'd wanted her to stay a child longer!

Of course, Thali wouldn't admit that that was the secret wish of all mothers. Vate might have been playing both roles, but he had always acted unattached. Except maybe towards Stasia...

Vate looked distraught. "You didn't say they grew that fast!" He complained. "Joshua's older than she is--!"

Thali could only shrug. It was true that Joshua was older-- She didn't know how to explain it. "She's a different race-- Of course she'd grow at a different rate." She said.

Vate could only frown. "I thought..." He started, but he was interupted. Almie was walking out of the room.

"If it's alright," She said, "I'd like to stay here, with you."

This post has absolutely nothing to do with Josh. I will be editing off and on because it is a story a friend and I are writing based on a question we both had. It's mostly here for Marina's enjoyment. None of the things in this story actually happened. Therefore, if you are not called Stasia, Vate, Thali, Jacen, Ben, Matth, or otherwise known as said character's writers, do not read this post.

Otherwise... Josh will deem you as an official loser.

It was the day before the wedding, and every elf in the kingdom of Lynwood was curious to learn if the princess would finally go through with it. She had disapointed them for so long, so many times that they didn't want to get their hopes up.
The princess was rather reluctant to prepare for the wedding. She was in the library, reading. She was hiding from her maids, who insisted on making her try on her wedding dress. Over. And. Over. It was enough to drive her insane.
"There! Ready for to get married!" Jacen said as he scrutinized Vate in his wedding outfit. It was so formal, so different; it made Vate uncomfortable. He frowned as his friend gave him a thumbs up.
Jacen looked at his friend for a moment. He noticed how uncomfortable he looked. "Go, I'll cover for you." He muttered.
His eyes darted at Jacen, surprised at what he said. Finally, Vate nodded and grabbed his original clothes to change. After that, he left to look for Thali.
Thali kept reading, slowly turning the pages of the ancient book. She looked up as she heard creaking.
It was Vate, and Thali couldn't help but to grin. Usually Vate walks quietly, to the point where it's pure silence, and no one can hear him.
At first, Vate didn't say anything. He noticed that Thali wasn't wearing her dress. Isn't it bad luck to see the bride before the actual wedding? Apparantley, that's what the humans think. "You aren't getting ready either?" he asked, unsurprised.
Thali gave a half smile. "I've been ready. The maids keep making me try it on to make sure the dress fits and has no wrinkles and argh. They give me a headache." She studied him before adding, "You do know that you look better without that piece of crap costume on, don't you?"
Vate looked to the floor, and grinned. But he began to wonder if Thali wanted to marry him, or if she wanted to run away-- again. "How long have you been here?" he asked.
Thali shrugged. "In the library? Maybe an hour." She was hoping the maids wouldn't think to look for her here. They were stupid enough.
Vate sat down next to Thali, and the two were quiet. He couldn't help but to look over at what she was reading.
Thali blinked at Vate and held the book open so he could read it. "I didn't know you were interested in history," She said.
Vate snatched the book from her. "I'm not." he replied with a clever grin.
Thali looked surprised at first, and then she smiled. "Give it back," She said, reaching for it.
Vate moved his arm, keeping it away from Thali and stood up. Backing away from her a bit, he said, "Come get it!"
Thali went after him. She remembered how they used to play when they were children. They would get too loud and make the servants come and quiet them.
The two began to walk faster and faster, and then run. They ran around the library, and Vate stood on a table, knocking a book on the floor. "Don't you want the book, Thali?" he teased.
Thali had always been just a hair slower than Vate. She reached for the book before climbing onto a chair, then onto the table.
Vate's small smile turned into a grin, and he backed away from Thali. But he took one extra step, and fell off the table, landing on his back with a thud.
Thali jumped off the table to see if Vate was alright. "Are you okay?" She asked, holding out her hand to help him up.
Vate nodded, and took her hand. The two heard the main door open, and looked at the entrance.
Thankfully, it was Jacen. "I thought I'd find you two here." He said. "The entire kingdom's looking for you," He told Thali, "You're supposed to be getting ready." Thali rolled her eyes. "I needed a break." She said.
Jacen tilted his head. "What were you guys doing, anyway?" He asked. The two blinked, then Thali helped Vate up and he tossed the book onto the table.
Thali looked over at the book. "I was doing a bit of light reading," She muttered. "Vate fell, and I came to see what happened." Jacen had a smirk on his face. Vate wasn't normally clumsy.
"Well," Jacen said. "You're dad's having a heart attack, Thali. He's freaking out because he doesn't know where you are."
Thali frowned, "Just tell him I'm in the castle. Say I don't want to be found, and need some privacy before the wedding." Thali thought that would keep her father from looking for her.
Realizing that he had to play messenger now, Jacen left the library, closing the door behind. Vate watched him leave, and looked over at Thali. "Privacy?" he asked. "For what?"
Thali smiled at Vate, before picking up the book, and lightly hitting him on the head with it. "For that." She said.
Vate grabbed hold of the book the instant it touched his head, and took it away from her again. "Maybe it's best if you didn't have it." he said, tossing it back on the table.
Thali frowned. "It was just a bit of fun." She said. "You're always so serious."
"Oh, am I?" Vate asked, with the grin back on his face. He grabbed the book back and lightly tapped her head with it. He took a few paces away from her, flipping through the pages.
Thali smiled and went after him. "What do you think?" She asked. "Think I should stay here this time?"
Vate only shrugged, and replied, "It depends. Do you want to get married?"
Thali frowned in thought. "I don't know." She said finally. "Do you?"
Once again, the library turned quiet. Vate thought for a moment, and shut the book, the pages making a dull thug. He turned back around. "Yes," he finally replied, quietly. He placed the book in Thali's hands, and looked into her eyes. "I do."
Thali put the book on the table, and looked at him. "I think I'll stay." She said, looking back into his yellow eyes. "Just this once."
"Then I guess we must get ready." Vate said, and he left the library.
Thali followed Vate, curious. She didn't think he was really going to get ready.
Vate whirred around, and it scared Thali a bit. "Are you following me?" he asked.
Thali frowned, "Of course not!" She said. "I just happen to be going in the same direction."
Doubting what she said was true, Vate only kept walking.
Thali kept following, trying to be quiet.
A bit frustrated, Vate turned around again, and placed a hand on her shoulder. "Thali," he said. "Just trust me." He spun Thali to the opposite direction, and then left.
Thali sighed, and started walking back to the library. She would wait until Jacen returned, she supposed.
She turned a corner, and ran into her father. He was looking down at her, frowning.
Thali tried to smile up at him. "Hello father," She said pleasantly. "Surprising to see you here."
Grabbing her wrist, he stomped down the hall, practicially dragging his daughter. "YOU HAVE TO GET READY!" he boomed. "AND YOU'RE AT THE LIBRARY!"
Thali couldn't help it, she grinned. Were all father's this paranoid about weddings? "I was just talking to Vate..." She said.
He froze, and his grip tightened. "Talking...." he sputtered. " T-T-TALKING TO VATE?!" he whirred around to face his daughter. "IT'S BAD LUCK TO SEE THE BRIDE BEFORE THE WEDDING!!"
Thali rolled her eyes. "That's what the mortals say!" She said, "It's not true. Anyway, Vate and I worked things out."
Her father seemed to ignore that statement, and stomped down the hall. He swung open the door where she had to put on the dress, and almost threw her in there. "GET THAT DRESS ON!!" He shouted, slamming the door.
Thali sighed, and did what she was told. She frowned at the reflection in the mirror. "It's too white and poofy." She complained.
"Oh, you look lovely!" some of the maids said, gazing at her dress in admiration.
Thali couldn't help glaring at them. "You can keep it then." She muttered. "I hate it."
There was a knock, and Thali's mother entered the room. Smiling, she gasped in awe and looked at her daughter with wide eyes. She walked towards her daughter. "You're so beautiful." she said, looking as if she was trying not to cry.
Thali tried to smile, she didn't want to ruin the moment for her mother. "Don't cry." She said, hugging her. She paused, and looked around. "Do you think Vate will like it?"
Holding her daughter's hands, Thali's mother said, "He will." she said with a smile. Her father entered. "Are you ready, Thali?" he asked. Thali could hear the music playing in the next room. Excited and tearful, Thali's mother headed to the next room to find a seat for the wedding.
Thali froze when she heard the music. She shook her head. "I can't do this." She said, looking at her father. "I can't."
Vate and Jacen stood at the end of the aisle, and Vate slightly jumped at the sound of the music beginning to play. Never in his life had he been so nervous.
For once, Averi tried to remain calm. "Your mother was the same way," He muttered. But Thali was shaking her head. "I can't. I'm scared, and I'll trip and look stupid and..."
Averi held her face with his hand. "You'll do good." he said. "Nothing's going to go wrong."

Jokingly, Jacen nudged Vate, and it made Vate jump again. "Not nervous, are you?" Jacen asked. Vate shot a glare at Jacen.
Jacen paused. The pianist kept playing Thali's cue. "Do you think she ran off again?" He asked, looking at Vate. Clearly, that's what the elves were thinking. They were looking for her.
The whole room let out a sigh of relief when they saw Thali and Averi enter arm and arm. Thali looked extremely nervous, and felt as if she was going to fall over. Vate and Thali made eye contact, and Averi led Thali to take a step forward.
Thali was positively shaking. She was fighting the urge to run back to the room. She looked at her father nervously. "Are you sure it has to be today?" She asked.
"You can do it," Averi said, "It's going to be okay." The two took a few more steps.
Thali wanted to believe him, she really did. But she couldn't. Not now. She looked at him. "The wedding was supposed to be tomorrow." She muttered. "You said."
Averi frowned. "You would have ran off if we waited until tomorrow!" He snapped, muttering.
Relative's eyes began to widen a bit. They took another step.
The elves were impressed. "She hasn't run off!" They were muttering. "Is she really going to go through with this?" Thali sighed. She knew her father was right. She would have gotten nervous and ran away. She took a deep breath as they took another step.
Vate watched Thali, wishing that they'd hurry up to the front.
By now even Averi was impressed. Thali was keeping her eyes on Vate now; even though she'd gone rather pale. Almira was sitting in the front row, crying.
Finally, Vate and Thali were face to face. Averi sat down next to Almira, refraining her from sobbing.
Vate stared at Thali. To him, she was the most beautiful thing he had ever seen. He could have stared at her all day, but the reverend began his speech, and it brought Vate to his attention.
"We gather here today..." the reverened droned. Jacen shifted uncomfortably, tired of standing.
Thali blushed under Vate's stare. Once the reverend started talking, she started feeling trapped. She couldn't escape now.
"Vate," the reverend said. "Do you take---" His eyes widened a bit, as if he remembered something. "Wait, you two don't have a choice." He pointed a finger at Vate and Thali. "I now pronounce you husband and wife." The two haven't kissed yet, and everyone was already standing up and cheering.
Vate turned to Thali, as if he was about to say something, until Averi stood next to Thali and grabbed her arm. "Time for you to go to your room to sleep!" he said. Vate blinked, the two just got married, and Averi is already separating them. "I don't want you running away." Averi said. "So I'll double the guards." He began dragging Thali away.
Vate sighed, Averi is too paranoid about his daughter.

Thali was banging on her bedroom doors. Why wouldn't the guards let her out? "Let me out or I'll make sure you all lose your heads!" She cried. The guards only exchanged glances. One of them was brave enough to say, "Well, you can't do anything while you're locked in."
Frustrated, Thali groaned and sat on her bed with crossed arms.
Thali sighed, and fell back on her bed. "Argh, if I was going to run, I would have done it hours ago!" She said. The guards ignored her.
Then, Thali felt a hand poke her, and she jumped. Whirring around, she saw Vate behind her. "Let's go, then." He said quietly. Thali looked behind his shoulder, and saw that the window was open. How did he get so good at sneaking around in the first place?
"What?" She asked, her eyebrows raised. "Where?" She was too surprised to say much more. "But the guards.." She paused and looked out the window. She grinned. "I always knew there was a way out."
Vate walked to the window, and opened it a bit more. Stretching his arm, as if inviting her to get through the window, he said, "Ladies first."
Thali's eyes widened, and she climbed out. She wondered if this was some sort of trap. Since when did Vate help her escape?
The two stood on the roof of the floor below, and Vate walked ahead of her. Stopping on the edge, he turned around, waiting for Thali to catch up.
Thali was right behind him. "Why are you doing this?" She asked. "Helping me, I mean. You've never done it before.."
Vate raised an eyebrow. "Are you changing your mind?" he asked. "Do you want my help for not?"
Thali fell silent and nodded. She couldn't help wondering why, but she supposed she could ask him after they got off the roof.
Vate picked her up. "Hold on, then." he said
Thali hung on. "But where will we go?" She asked.
"We'll figure that out later." he said. Then, he jumped off of the roof.
Thali frowned, and looked around the court yard. "You'd think there would be guards out here.." She muttered.
He placed her down, and headed for the main gates. "They're all at the tower, trying to guard you." he said. Once they reached the main gates, he pushed them open. But they creaked loudly, and then they heard a guard shouting. "Thali's escaped!"
Thali took Vate's hand and pulled him threw the passage way. "I know a short cut," She said. "If we're quick enough, they won't catch us."
The guards were racing to the enterance. "You never found this place, did you?" Thali asked, looking at Vate. "It's the only reason I could escape."
"Figures." was all Vate could say as he followed her.
They reached the exit long before the Guards did. "I don't think they'll be able to find me this time." Thali muttered, opening the portal.
Vate grabbed one of his dagger and the bag packed with items slung over his shoulder and handed them to Thali. "You'll need these," he said. "When you leave Lynwood."
Thali looked at him in surprise. "Come with me?" She asked, before adding, "Please?"
Vate was shocked to hear what Thali said. "You want me to go with you?" he asked.
Thali nodded. "That way, you won't have to come looking for me." She said. "That is, if you want to come.."
Vate thought for a moment, and nodded.
Thali looked surprised. "You'll come, really?" She asked.
"You shouldn't be out there by yourself." Vate said, and edged Thali towards the portal.
Thali walked through, and waited for Vate on the other side.
Instantly, Vate appeared. He quickly looked around, realizing that he was in the forest, and Thali was there as well.
Thali looked at the portal. "The guards are coming." She said, taking his hand. "We just have to worry about the adder. Other than that.." She looked at Vate. "I don't know what to do."
"Then we have to get going." Vate replied. "Just as far away from here as we can." Grabbing Thali's hand, he ran into the forest.
They ran as far as they could until they came to a clearing. Thali looked around. "We've been here before. Remember?"
Vate thought for a moment. "Yes," he said. "We have."
Thali looked up at the sky. "Still no stars. I think we're almost there, though. Want to stay here for the night?"
Vate nodded. "That's a good idea. I'll start a fire." he began to wander off, and told her to stay put.
Thali didn't feel like listening; even if they were married, that didn't mean he could tell her what to do. "I'll go find something to eat." She said.
"Don't go too far, then!" Vate said, picking up wood for a fire.
Thali didn't go far; she found a large apple tree nearby. "Well, we have apples." She said.
Vate sat near the stack of wood, and scraped two sharp rocks together. "Better than nothing." he said. "It'll do."
Thali nodded, looking at him. "You know, the wedding wasn't as bad as I thought it would be."
The rocks created sparks, and Vate started a fire. "True," he said, taking a bite from an apple. "But some honeymoon this is."
Thali shrugged. "It's better than being locked in a room with guards dumber than rocks making sure you don't get out."
Vate was silent. "Where do you want to go from here?" he asked. "Is there anywhere out of the forest?"
Thali nodded, "There's a nice cottage for sale." She said. "Near the beach. It's not what we're used to.. but.. I dunno. Would you be happy with that?"
"It's far away from the... city, right?" he asked. He never liked cities, at least human ones. So much noise, so many buildings with giant bright signs that seem to tower on and on, it was just a giant hassle.
Thali smiled and nodded. "The reason it's so cheap is because the beach is practically deserted." She said. "It's a little too far from the library for my liking.. but, I suppose we could start one."
Vate nodded, and started to lie down. "That will work." he said.
Thali smiled, leaning against a tree stump. "What do you think they'll do when they find you've gone missing too? Well... I suppose they'd assume you're looking for me again."
Thinking for a moment, Vate closed his eyes. "They're probably more concerned about getting you back than me." he replied.
Thali blinked. "Why?" She asked. "You're just as important.. and well, I suppose you're a prince now."
His eyes opened, and Vate said. "But you're the kings daughter," he said. "Your parents could probably find someone to replace me in an instant."
Thali shook her head. "You've said it yourself." She muttered. "No one in their right mind would want to marry me."
Vate chuckled. "Are you sure about that?" he asked. "You are a princess, after all."
Thali shrugged. "You're the only one who's ever come after me." She said. "Anyway... I wouldn't allow them to choose anyone else."
Vate sat up. "Is that so?" he asked. "That's interesting..."
Thali blushed, "You know.. I just mean.. I think you'd do the best at it.":
Vate tossed a stick into the fire. "If you say so." he replied.
Thali looked at him. "You don't know why I didn't run away?" She asked.
Even though Vate didn't say anything, he looked at Thali as if he were interested.
Thali tried not to blush. "I didn't run this time-- because of you."
Thali paused and looked at Vate. "I'm probably creeping you out.. I'm sorry."
Vate moved over, and sat next to Thali. He cradled her face in his hand, and gave her a kiss.
Whatever Thali had been expecting, it hadn't been a kiss. She looked away, and blushed.
"We didn't have time at the wedding." Vate teased. He stood up. "I'm going to look for something else to eat." he said, and wandered into the forest.
Thali watched him go, blinking. She couldn't help thinking that Vate had changed.
Thali closed her eyes, but they snapped open when she heard the sound of... was it twigs breaking? She jumped up from where she was sitting.
Thali took a moment to look for Vate. She didn't know what to do. She certainly couldn't face whatever was coming alone.
Vate returned, quickly dropping a rabbit and grabbing Thali's hand. "Come on!" he whispered harshly. He picked her up, leaping up into a tree. More sticks began to snap loudly. "Why didn't you hide?" he asked.
Thali looked at Vate, eyes widening. "I would have hid but... I didn't know where you were and..." She frowned, she didn't want to admit that she'd been frightened.
Vate hopped from tree top to tree top, trying to avoid whatever was around but still moving forward at the same time. "Probably the adder," he said.
The trees started falling, one by one as Vate went. Thali closed her eyes in fear. "He seems.. angry this time."
Vate glanced back, and the trees were falling closer to him and Thali. He tried going faster, but the adder was right behind them.
Suddenly Jacen appeared. "I'll distract it!" He cried, running the other way. The adder heard the yell, and chased the elf into the forest. Thali frowned. "He's going to get himself killed.."
Vate stopped, and Thali looked up at him. He tried to decide what to do. Whether he was an idiot or not, Jacen was still Vate's friend.
Thali looked at Vate. "Let's go help him," She said. She knew Jacen and Vate had always been friends. "We've defeated the adder before."
The two caught up with Jacen, and Vate prepared his bow and arrow.
The adder had been just about to attack and eat Jacen when they arrived. Jacen looked relieved as he saw Vate, and pulled out his own sword. "It's angry because we killed it's mate last time!" He explained.
Vate fired an arrow, aiming for one of the adder's eyes. He missed, and it his the head instead.
The adder hissed in anger and pain. It opened it's mouth to show giant fangs. Thali flinched.
Vate looked back at Thali. "Thali, stay out of the way!" he said. "Go hide!"
Thali looked at Vate, and nodded. She climbed into a tree. But the adder had seen something better tasting than Jacen-- a princess would do fine.
The adder bolted for the tree that Thali was in, and Vate tried to out run it. He climbed up another tree all the way to the top.
The adder wasn't especially impressed by Vate. Even when Jacen started stabbing it with his dagger, it was planning on knocking Thali's tree down.
The adder loomed over Thali, baring its large fangs. Thali's eyes began to widen, and Vate jumped over to the same tree as Thali, and blocked the snake from her. He quickly wrapped his arms around her, planning to jump out of the way with her. Then he felt the fangs stab into his back.
Thali moved from under Vate, giving him an extremely worried look as she took his sword. "This time, I'll do the saving." She muttered, stabbing the adder in the mouth.
The adder jerked back, making a screech-like sound, and fell over. The whole area rumbled as it crashed to the ground. Jacen examined the adder, and it was dead. "You killed it, Thali!" Jacen said, proud.

Vate's breathing was small, and still. His back should have been torture to him, but Vate couldn't feel a thing.
Thali wasn't very proud of herself. She looked at Vate, and put her arms around him. "I'm not going to let you die." She told him. "So don't try it."
Jacen hopped to the top of the tree, shocked at what happened to Vate. He rushed to his friend, and felt Vate's forehead. "Vate," he said clearly, and a bit slowly. "How are you feeling?" Vate didn't say anything at first, but looked as if he was trying to. "F-freezing." he gasped. Jacen nearly turned pale when he examined the fang marks on Vate's back. "He's poisoned, Thali." he said gravely.
Thali frowned. "I should be the one who's poisoned.. We'll go back to Lynwood." She told Jacen. "The healers there can.." Jacen's eyes were twice the size they were normally. "You're willingly going to go back there?" He asked.
Vate began to shake a bit. Jacen looked down at his friend, and back at Thali. "First, he should rest a bit, we can heal him as much as we can. Trying to get back right now can cause stress for him, making the poison go faster."
Thali nodded, Jacen was right. She gently lifted Vate up, with Jacen's help, and took him to the ground. Thali pulled out a blanket from her bag and put it over him. She looked nervously over at Jacen. "I'm not very good at healing."
Jacen, almost frantically, looked through his bag. Hands trembling, he pulled out some medicine leaves. "If you can find water," Jacen said. We can boil these. They heal poison a bit."
Thali knew where a stream was, so she took a pan to get the water. "I hope these work," She said, coming back and placing it on the fire.
Jacen began to boil the leaves. "It shouldn't take long." he reassured. Vate slowly began to move one of his hands around the ground, as if feeling for something. Jacen frowned. "The side affects are taking quicker than I thought." he said.
Thali took Vate's hand. "I'm really worried about him," She admited. "We should have stayed in Lynwood. This wouldn't have happened.."
The leaves were done. "We need to flip him over." Jacen said. Thali helped Jacen turn Vate over, but it was a bit hard with his shaking. Jacen carefully placed the leaves on the wounds. With a shap gasp, Vate's eyes widened, and his grip on Thali's hand tightened a bit.
When they flipped him back over, Thali had to fight the urge to hug him. She didn't want to hurt him. She glanced at Jacen. "I saw some healing herbs that way." She said, pointing in the opposite direction. Jacen somehow knew he was being distracted, and turned around. When Thali was sure Jacen wasn't looking, she kissed Vate.
Jacen returned, checking Vate's pulse. Vate's heart was beating extremely fast. "We have to take him back now." he said solemnly.
Thali nodded. She'd hoped the leaves would help, but they didn't seem to be. "Let's go then." She said.
To Thali and Jacen, the trip back seemed to last forever. Occasionally, they had to stop because Vate was getting too stressed about being carried around. The elves were shocked to hear what happened, and helped Vate to the medic immediatley. Jacen and Thali waited outside of Vate's room.
Of course, the King was planning on locking Thali back up the moment they found out Vate was alright. He somehow knew that she wouldn't run off with Vate so badly poisoned.
Eventually, the elderly healer exited the room. Carefully, she shut the door, and Jacen and Thali stood up. At first, they were silent, nervous to ask about Vate.
The healer looked at Thali and smiled, "He's lucky." She said. "He'll be fine in a day or two." Thali gave a sigh of relief, and went to Vate's bedside.
"I'm not finished, princess." the elderly healer said. Jacen raised his eyebrows, and Thali stuck her head out of the door. "You two did decent helping him, but you didn't come in early enough." Placing her hands in her sleeves. "During the few days he heals, he will be temporarily blind."
Thali frowned, and looked to the healer. "Can I stay with him until he gets well?" She asked. She looked at Jacen. "Can you tell my father that I'll be staying in the healer's ward?"
The healer nodded. "Of course you can," she said. "After all," her voice sounded a bit more sing-song. "You are the wife." With that, she left.
Jacen left the room, towards an arguement with Averi, he expected. Thali sat in the chair next to Vate's bedside. She took his hand. "I'm sorry." She muttered. "I'm always getting into trouble and... It's my fault."
Vate's eyes opened, the healer already told him about his blindess. "It's-Not your fault." Vate said, still sounding as if he had a slight breathing problem.
Thali sighed, and looked up. "It is. If I hadn't needed saving.." She paused, "I..I kinda killed the adder after it got you."
Vate managed to smile. "Good job." he said. He reached out his hand a bit. "Where are you?"
Thali took his hand. "Your right side." She said. "The healer says I can stay here until you recover."
Vate didn't say anything and closed his eyes, while Thali just listened to the pattern of his breathing. In, out. In, out. In. . . a pause, and out. Thali heard someone clearing their throat, and looked to see her father.
Thali frowned. "Hello father," She said. "I'm sorry, I didn't know this would happen and... I'm worried about him."
Averi held up a hand, to silence her. "That doesn't matter." he said. "As long as you came back safe, and that Vate survived." He left the room. "That's all that matters right now."
Thali was surprised. Usually when something happened, she was the first to be yelled at. She followed him out, and hugged him. "Thank you." She said.
"There is an extra bed for you in there," Averi said. "Take care of him." He walked down the hallway.
Thali blinked. Not only was her father behaving strangely, now he was going to let her do what she wanted? Not that she wasn't relieved. She went back to Vate's side.
Vate was asleep, and he was slightly shaking a bit.
Thali put the blanket from her bed onto Vate. She kissed his cheek before laying down. She knew she wouldn't be able to sleep.
"You have to eat it!" Thali said, the next day. She sat on Vate's bed, next to him, holding a plate of cake. "Does it matter that I'm feeding you like a baby?" Vate winced a bit, he was sitting up and it was hurting his back a bit. "Just give it to me," he said, waving his arms a bit. "I can figure it out."
Thali fought the urge to smash the cake on Vate's face. That would count as 'giving' it to him, wouldn't it? "No." Thali said, "You'll make a mess. It's easier this way." She put a forkful of cake into Vate's open mouth.
Frustrated, he ate the piece of cake. "Thanks." he snapped. Then, he leaned over a bit and began coughing. Thali frowned. "You're breathing too quickly!" she said, a bit whiny. The healer told them that he had to breathe a bit more slowly, or he'll start coughing from too much air at once. Thali frowned, at least his heart was slowing down. "I'm fine." Vate replied.
Thali helped Vate lay back down. "I just don't want you getting worse." She said. "So... Try not to over do it, okay?"
Vate reached out his hand, feeling for Thali's face. "I'll be okay." he said, sounding more serious.
Thali nodded, taking his hand and putting it to her cheek. "I can't help worrying." She said.
Vate rested his head on his pillow, he hated being like this. His back was killing him, he can't see, and if he doesn't breath right, he starts coughing and slightly suffocating. "How much longer am I to heal again?" He asked, irritated.
Thali sighed. "I've told you five hundred times." She said, "Two more days, and you'll be fine."
Vate nodded. "Fine." he replied.
Jacen came into the room. He looked at Thali, narrowed his eyes and said, "You haven't slept, have you?" When Thali shook her head, he rolled his eyes. "There's another bed in here for a reason." He pointed out.
Vate's eyes darted around the room, trying to figure out what's going on. "Is that Jacen?" He asked Thali.
"It is," Thali said, "But why are you here, Jace?" She asked. Jacen frowned at the nickname. "Averi put me in charge of Vate's duties for now. One of them is making sure the princess is healthy. So.. I'm going to have to ask you to leave." He pointed out the door. Thali frowned, but she was guessing that Jacen wanted to talk to Vate without interuption. She headed for the library.
Jacen sat down next to Vate. "Don't be angry," He muttered. "I didn't really kick her out." He said, "Anyway... Did you hear how she killed that Adder?"
Closing his eyes, Vate shook his head. "She never told me." he replied.
Jacen frowned, "She was probably too worried about you." He said, before continuing. "She took your sword, and stabbed it in the mouth right before it attacked you again. It nearly fell on top of me!"
Vate was impressed. "Not bad." he said.
"Not bad? It was brilliant! And I'll bet she's never so much as picked up a sword before." Jacen said. "But I don't think she'd be a very good swords-elf."
"Of course." Vate said with a small proud grin. Finally, he asked, "Mind covering for us again when I get better?"
"Sure," Jacen replied. "It was easy. Everyone expected her to run, and for you to go after her is natural." He shrugged, and muttered, "You know.. For hating you, she sure does seem to care alot."
Vate didn't reply, he didn't know what to say.
At his friend's silence, Jacen continued. "She won't admit it, at least not to you. It was her idea to bring you back here."
Vate nodded, saying, "I figured she would."
"I was surprised." Jacen admited. "She's never willingly come back."
Vate shrugged. "Weddings," he said. "They can change people."
Jacen somehow doubted this. "I don't think it was the wedding that changed her." He said.
Shrugging, Vate said, "I'm out of ideas then."
Jacen looked at his friend, and moved close to Vate's ear. "She's in love. With you."
Vate began to cough again, this time a bit louder.
Jacen looked concerned. "You're breathing too fast." He warned.
"Y-You didn't---think--I knew that!!" Vate snapped. His coughing turned more into a coughing fit, he couldn't stop.
Jacen went to go get the healer. She walked in, frowning. "Are you alright?" She asked.
The healer placed a hand on Vate's back as he coughed, but jolted a bit a few seconds after ward. "Get me the glass of water!" she said, holding out her hand to Jacen.
Jacen handed her a glass of water quickly. "Here," He said.
She snatched the water from him, holding it to Vate's mouth. He didn't drink any. She made Vate lie down again, and Thali entered the room. His coughs turned a bit more into gasps.
Thali rushed to Vate's side. "Is he okay?" She asked the healer, looking scared. "What happened?"
"He had a coughing fit," she said. "Nothing to worry about."
Apparently, Thali didn't believe the healer. She was worried. She glared at Jacen. "He was fine when I left. What did you do?"
Jacen was quick to shrug, and the healer managed to get Vate to breathe again. "That shouldn't be happening often." she said to Jacen, harshly.
Thali was still glaring, when Jacen pulled her out into the hall. "As long as you don't say anything about loving him, he won't have a coughing fit." He muttered.
The healer exited the room as well, and looked back at Thali. "I shall return to check on him later." she said, and left.
Thali gave Jacen one last glare before going to Vate's side. "Are you alright?" She asked.
Vate nodded. "I'm okay, now." he said.
Thali was curious. "Jacen didn't do anything, did he? If he did... I'll kill him."
Vate exchanged a glance with Jacen and shook his head. "He didn't do anything.." Vate said.
Thali frowned, "He didn't? Didn't say anything, give you anything... argh. I'll just kill him anyway."
Vate only closed his eyes, and tried to relax.
Jacen left the room in a hurry. He'd seen what Thali did to the adder, and didn't want that to happen to him. He hoped Vate wouldn't mention what he'd said.
While Jacen was trying to avoid Thali, Vate couldn't help but to go asleep.
Thali sat on her bed in thought. She decided she wouldn't let Jacen back inside the room. He was too dangerous. She fell back into bed, and fell asleep.
A few hours later, it was only Vate and Thali in the room. "When do you want to leave again?" he asked.
Thali looked at him. "What?" She asked. "Why would we leave? We're safer here."
Vate blinked. Did the two just changed opinions in only a few days? "I thought you didn't like it here." he said.
Thali sighed. "I mean for you. I don't want you getting hurt. I'd rather be here."
Vate sat up again, ignoring his back. "But you killed the only thing that was wrong with the forest. We could probably get there safely now."
Thali looked at him. "I don't want to risk it." She said, "There's no point in leaving anymore. There's nothing to run away from."
Vate really didn't want to argue with her. "If that's what you want." he finally said.
Thali frowned, and looked at the ground. "I don't know what I want anymore." She muttered. "I just... I want you to be safe."
He struggled a bit, but Vate managed to sit competely up on the edge of the bed. He moved the bedsheets aside. He was wearing the same pants from when they showed up to get him healed, but a different shirt. "Let's go for a walk, then." he said. Taking off his shirt, he changed into the original shirt sitting next to the bed. Carefully, he tried to stand up.
Thali took his hand to help him up. "Are you sure it's alright?" She asked. "Maybe you should stay in bed.." She started, but smiled as she saw his look. "A walk sounds nice."
The two began to wander around the courtyard, Vate relying on Thali for a bit of support.
Thali didn't seem to mind. "So tell me," She said. "What did Jacen say? He seemed pretty informed about what not to talk about."
"He said," Vate explained. "That you loved me." It felt weird saying that to Thali, as if he were playing the messenger.
Thali blushed, and was about to deny it when she thought better of it. "What do you think?" She asked. "Think he was telling the truth?"
Vate stopped, and had a clever grin on his face. "You think I was knocked out when you kissed me?" he asked.
Thali couldn't help it, she grinned. "I wanted to see if it'd make you feel better." She said.
Vate teasingly rolled his eyes, and headed for a bench. Tired, he said, "I need to sit down."
Thali nodded, and led him to the bench. "I knew Jacen wasn't kicking me out for health purposes." She said. "He gossips too much."
Vate thought he heard voices, and looked over to see a couple of girl aweing over him and Thali. They were giggling, but stopped and blushed when Vate looked at them.
Thali narrowed her eyes when she saw them. "It's better than the singsong voice the healer gives me everytime she reminds me that we're married." She said, rolling her eyes.
"So I was thinking," Vate said. "We could name the kids Vate 1,2, and 3."
Thali glared at him. "No kids." She said firmly. "Not for a long, long, loooooong time. And none of them are going to be named Vate."
Vate laughed. "I knew you wouldn't like that." he replied.
If Vate hadn't been sick and injured, Thali would have whacked him for teasing her. But she let it slide. "So... Why do you want to leave?" She asked.
"That's what you wanted, isn't it?" he asked. "Isn't that why you ran away countless of times?"
Thali frowned. "Yes but.." She started, "Don't you want to stay here? You've always hated the world out there.. and it's dangerous."
Vate looked as if he couldn't believe what he was hearing. "So you finally have a chance to do what you want to do, and you're not going to leave?" he asked.
Thali looked at him. "All I want to do is make sure you're happy." She said, carefully. "If that means staying here, I'm happy with that."
Vate's eyes focused on the ground, and he didn't say anything. Honestly, he felt the same way.
Thali frowned at his silence. "I suppose, if you really want to leave.. I could kill any adders coming your way."
Vate frowned. "Don't you think you're being too overprotective?" he asked.
Thali studied him. "No." She said, "You need the protection." Overprotective? Psh. She couldn't be overprotective of him now.
Vate knew she was right. Even though he knew where he was, who he was talking to, Vate still couldn't see a thing.
Thali put her arms around him. "But.. If it bothers you, I'll try not to be when you recover." She said.
Even though Vate couldn't see it, Thali noticed the teenage girls glaring at her for what she just did.
Thali glared back at them. "Get over it." She told them. "I'm his wife." One of the girls scowled before they left.
Vate grew curious. "What?" he asked. "What's going on?
Thali frowned. "Stupid girls.." She muttered. "Apparently," She started, "Some of the kingdom is unhappy with our marriage."
Vate shrugged, he learned over the years not to care about it. "They've never been a fan of us anyway." he said.
Thali couldn't help feeling angry. "If they so much as touch you..." She muttered, but then she thought better of it, and amended what she had been about to say. "I won't kill them."
Just then, Averi entered the courtyard, catching site of the two. "Vate," he said. "I see you're healing quickly." Vate nodded. "But I still can't see anything." he replied. Averi looked as if he didn't like the sound of that. "Shame," Averi said. "The missions I have for you are stacking up."
Thali narrowed her eyes at her father. "Just have Jacen do them." She said. "He knows Vate's role inside out."
Averi roared in laughter, and it made Thali flinch. Realizing how loudly he was laughing, Averi quickly stopped. "It may be a bit too difficult for Jacen to do." he said. "Maybe with a bit more of practice."
Thali frowned. "I could do it." She said, determined. "I killed the adder and.." But Averi was laughing again. "You?" He asked.
"I could teach her." Vate said. Averi jerked his head at Vate. "My daughter is not going out there!" Averi snapped. "Of all the things she could be, she will not be an assassin!"
Thali sighed. "I'd rather do it than let him go out there.." She muttered. "The missions will have to wait until he recovers, then." She said.
Averi stormed away, not liking the thought of Vate's suggestion.
Thali took Vate's hand, and sighed. "He never lets me do anything fun." She complained. "I could learn how to be an assassin..."
Vate replied, "You can do it, it only took me thirteen years."
Thali shrugged. "I could do it faster," She said, a challenging glint in her eyes. "I learned how to kill an adder in less than three seconds."
"You got lucky!" Vate said defensively, nudging her. "Plus, you have to learn how not to get caught."
Thali nodded. "True." She said, "I always seem to get trapped somehow."
Jacen ran into the court yard. "I've been looking everywhere for you!" He cried. "The healers are going frantic!"
"We should get going, then." Vate said, he was feeling tired anyway.
Thali sighed, and nodded. Though she wasn't looking forward to going back into the castle, she knew it was for the best. She helped him up. "Who knows? You might be able to see tomorrow."
Vate nodded, hopeful that she was right. They returned to the medic rooms, and the healer was extremely angry for what they did. "Can't you see he's exhausted?" The healer snapped, scrutinizing Vate. Thali flinched, the elder healer was usually calm and wouldn't ever get angry.
Thali frowned, and hung her head. "I'm sorry," She said. "I thought some fresh air would help him."
Vate slightly tightened the grip on Thali's hand, reassuringly. "It was really my fault." Vate said. "I wanted to leave." The healer took Vate, setting him back on his bed. "Rest." she said. "Now. No leaving, nothing."
Thali nodded. "I'll take care of him," She said. The healer frowned, and left the room. "I've never seen her so mad." Thali muttered.
Thali looked over at Vate, who as instantly asleep. Did that really wear him out? She thought he would take a nap, but he was asleep for the rest of the day.
Thali had barely fallen asleep when the healer woke them for breakfast. "Breakfast, Princess." She said. She seemed in a much better mood.
She placed the plate near Thali. "Vate's food should be here soon." she said, leaving. Moments later, the same teenage girls, carrying a plate of food peeked through the door.
Thali's eyes narrowed quickly. "You can come in," She said, before muttering to Vate, "You can have mine, I don't trust them." She fell silent when she realized Vate was still asleep.
The girls blushed at the sight of Vate, one whispering about how cute he looked sleeping. Thali glared as they set the plate next to her. "Tell him we said hi!" one said cheerfully. Giggling, they ran out of the room.
Thali moved to gently poke Vate awake. "Hey," She said. "Breakfast. And those annoying girls say hi."
Vate opened his eyes, and was amazed. Now everything was just a blur, he was getting his sight back. He quickly sat up, and reached for Thali's face. "I'm starting to see again." he said.
Thali smiled. "I'm glad," She said. "Now I won't have to spoonfeed you." She teased. "Just don't let Father know." She added, the smile fading slightly. "I don't want you doing his 'missions' anymore."
Vate began to eat, but dropped his spoon at Thali's request. "What?" he asked.
Thali frowned at him. "I don't want you going on any more missions." She said. "They can find a replacement. Princes shouldn't do that sort of thing."
"Thali," Vate said. "Where have you been your whole life?" The set the bowl down, nearly dropping it. "I've been trained to do this since I was-- Five. I have nothing else to do for this kingdom."
Thali looked at him with narrowed eyes. "Who says we're staying here?" She asked. "You want to leave, don't you?"
Vate blinked, and chuckled. "I thought you meant to give it up when I become king," he said. "I thought you wanted to stay here."
Thali frowned, "Those girls gave me another reason to leave." She muttered. "Can't stand them." Thali paused. "Anyway. Father plans on locking me away soon." She said. "I heard him talking."
"When?" Vate asked. "Did you hear that?"
Thali shrugged. "When Jacen came to talk to you, I suppose. I was in the library. He didn't know I was there."
:Vate leaned towards Thali. "Let's leave tonight." he said.
Thali blinked. "You think we can?" She asked. "I don't want to go if you're not completely recovered."
Vate seemed a bit impatient when he told her that he was okay. "I'll get my sight back eventually, and if we just take a break once in awhile, we'll be okay."
Thali reluctantly nodded. "Okay," She said. "You'll be happy outside of Lynwood?"
Vate nodded. "And I know you will be too." he said.
"Yes. Though, anything's better than being locked up." She muttered. "One of the reasons I've never liked it here."
Vate nodded. "It's settled." he said. "We'll leave." He looked around, and tried to recognize things around the room.
Thali followed his gaze. "I don't think the healer'll let us out of the room after yesterday," She said, with a half smile. "But I bet Jacen could distract her."
"Are you going to tell him?" he asked.
Thali shrugged. "He is your best friend. Shouldn't he know?"
Vate nodded. "He should."
"He's not hard to find." Thali said, nodding. At that very moment, Jacen walked in surrounded by the group of teens that so irritated Thali. "Argh.." Thali said, glaring.
Vate could recognize Jacen, but not the teenagers. "Who are they?" he asked.
Thali frowned. "Your fan club." She muttered, glaring at the girls. Jacen shrugged. "They've been rather helpful." He said defensively.
The girls giggled at the sight of Vate, and some asked if he could see them. "The only one I can see is Thali." he replied cooly, wondering how they could be helpful.
Thali stood up. "Vate needs rest." She said sternly. "Out. All of you. Now." The girls glared at her, and some stuck their tongues out.
Jacen looked a bit upset when he watched the girls leave. "What was that for?" he whined.
Thali glared at him. "It's your own fault for bringing them in here!" She snapped. Jacen flinched.
"Calm down, Thali." Vate said.
Thali did, reluctantly. "Argh. You should have told me you had a fan club." She muttered.
"Didn't know I had one." Vate said, shrugging. "Jacen, we need your help."
Jacen went to Vate's otherside, carefully avoiding Thali. "Lemme guess." He said. "You're planning on leaving."
"How did you know?" Vate asked, sarcastic. "But we'll stay gone, this time."
Jacen nodded. "I'll take care of the distractions." He said. He looked at Thali. "You'll take care of him, won't you?"
"I won't be sick forever." Vate said with a frown.
But Thali was nodding. "Promise," She said. Jacen looked relieved. "Don't worry about anything here." He said, "I have it all taken care of."
Vate began to eat his breakfast, not having anything left to say.
Thali sat back down, waiting for Vate to finish. Suddenly the door burst open. It was Averi. "Vate, how are you?" He asked.
Vate slightly jumped when Averi entered. Quickly swallowing his food, he said, "Still recovering."
Averi looked disapointed. "You'll have a lot to do when you're well." He said. He turned to glance at Thali. "As for you..." He started. He stopped when he saw the couple exchange a worried glance.
Thali looked at him. "Until Vate recovers, I want to stay with him." She said. Averi rolled his eyes. "Alright. As soon as he recovers.. You know what'll happen."
Vate pretended to be clueless of the whole thing.
Thali gave Vate a look that clearly meant 'I told you so.' Jacen followed the king out of the room.
Vate began to lie down on the bed again, his back was beginning to hurt.
Thali moved her chair closer to Vate's bed. "I didn't expect him to come in." She said, taking Vate's hand.
Nodding, he said, "I know. You should be getting ready."
Thali gave a half smile and reached under her chair. She pulled out Vate's bags and placed them on his bed. "We've been ready." She said.
Vate grinned. "Of course." he said.
"But now, you should rest." Thali told him, before watching the door open again. "Now that, I agree with." The healer said.
Shaking his head, Vate said, "I can't."
The healer looked at him carefully. "Your sight's back isn't it?" She asked. "I'll make sure to inform.." Thali shook her head. "Please don't." She said. "My father doesn't understand.." The healer nodded. "I see." She said. "Good luck on your journey."
Vate and Thali blinked, and the healer chuckled. "Allow me to check his back, before you leave." she said.
Thali nodded, and Vate turned over. The healer examined his back carefully. "It's healing fairly well," She said. "But..."
She lightly touched one of his scars, and Vate winced. Thali didn't like the look of that.
"I'll give you some herbs for the journey," The healer decided. "You'll need some for the pain."
"For a head start," she said, placing some on the scars. "Is your sight getting better?" Vate nodded.
The healer looked to Thali for a moment. "I trust you to make sure he doesn't wear himself out." She said. Thali nodded.
The healer left, and Thali looked back at Vate. "I should be fine." he said.
For a short while, Thali was silent in thought. "You think Jacen can distract the guards long enough for us to get to the portal?" She asked.
Vate nodded. "Anyone can." he said. "The guards aren't too bright."
Thali smiled, "But when?" She asked. "We can't leave after dark, it's too easy to get lost in the woods."
Vate closed his eyes. "Just wake me up when it's the beginning of sun down." he said. With that, he fell asleep.
It seemed to Vate like he'd just fallen asleep when Thali poked him awake. "Time to go," She muttered.
Drowsily, Vate opened his eyes. It made his back hurt a bit, but he sat up and grabbed his bag. Carefully, he stood up, looking for Thali.
Thali offered her hand to help him out of bed. "Ready?" She asked.
He took her hand, and nodded.
Thali smiled, and they left the medic's ward. Thali could hear Jacen faintly. She grinned. He was leading them in the opposite direction.
Luckily, they made it to the portal. "This is it," Vate said. "Our last time in Lynwood."
Thali nodded. "Will you miss it?" She asked.
Vate remembered the trouble he and Thali caused when they were kids in Lynwood, and the good times they had. But Vate shook his head. "No." he said.
Thali looked at him curiously. "I'll miss the library." She admited, opening the portal. "Let's go."
The two went through the portal, and Vate was relieved to see blurry patches of green everywhere. "We're here?"He asked.
Thali nodded. "We're here." She said, "Want to keep going, to the clearing? We could rest here for a few, if you need to."
"We can keep going." Vate said. "I'm fine."
Thali doubted this, but she led on. She made sure to pause every couple steps. Vate seemed to be getting frusterated, but she didn't pay him much attention.
Eventually, Vate couldn't help but to say something. "You don't have to do that." he said when Thali paused for what felt like the hundreth time.
Thali frowned. "We should take a break," She said, noticing that they were at a clearing. "If you want to, I mean.. We could always keep going."
Vate heard the word 'break', and instantly sat down. Thali admitted that they were walking for awhile, and they should have stopped sooner. "Just a short break." Vate said.
Thali sat next to him, nodding. "Maybe we should stay here for the night?" She suggested. "We don't have to worry about adders anymore."
Vate nodded, feeling a cool breeze. It felt good on his tired face. "We should." he repiled, trying to stand up. "I'll go find something to eat."
Thali pushed Vate back down, and stood up. "No you won't," She told him, frowning. "You need to rest. "I'll go find something."
Vate decided not to argue with her, since he knew that he was better off trying to run through a tree. He began to rest in the grass, and waited for Thali.
Thali returned, holding a rabbit as far away from her as she could. She looked like she was feeling sick. "Here," She said.

Vate grinned. 'Figures.' he thought. He carelessly grabbed the rabbit by the ears. Thali flinched as she watched him carry the limp body, and he pulled out a knife. "Not bad." he said, examining it.
Thali frowned at him, "What did you expect?" She asked. She went to find them something 'edible', such as apples.
"You don't want to watch me skin the rabbit?" he teased as Thali headed back to the forest.
Thali flinched as she heard Vate, and kept walking. She knew there was an apple tree around somewhere-- there. She punched the tree, to see if an apple would fall. Nothing happened, except that her knuckles were sore.
Extremely grateful that Vate didn't see her do that, Thali keep looking around the trees to find any apples. Eventually she found one, but it was high up in the tree. Grabbing onto the top of the trunk, Thali began to climb.
At first, she thought she was going fall. She gripped the trunk, and managed to climb to the branch. She reached out to grab the apple.
Her fingertips barely touched it, and she slighly jumped and grabbed it.
Thali fell-- she couldn't help thinking that Vate would have found this extremely amusing-- until something caught her fall. Thali looked around, to see what had caught her. She'd landed in the arms of someone she'd never seen before.
She looked up, and saw a strange man with a scar on his forehead. "Who," she began. "Who are you?" The man replied, "My name is Edmund." He let out a slight chuckle, but Thali still felt a bit scared of him. "Wouldn't want you do get hurt." he gently set her down.
Thali was still a little wary of him. "Thank you," She said, blinking. "But why are you here?"
Edmund crossed his arms. "I have been looking for any dark elves." he said. "Where I live, there has been a bit--- trouble going on. I need to find some dark elves and speak with them."
Thali brightened. "I know a dark elf," She started, looking at the man. "You're not going to hurt him, are you?"
Edmund shook his head. "Anything but." he replied. "Please take me to the elf." Thali leaded him out of the forest, and back to Vate.
Vate didn't seem very pleased to see someone with Thali. He frowned, and tried to stand up. "Where'd he come from?" He asked, narrowing his eyes at Edmund.
Edmund held up his hands, to show Vate that he was innocent. "I am from Durem." he said. "I have been searching for any dark elves to see if they have any connections to Don Kuro."
Both Thali and Vate looked confused. They'd never heard of a Don Kuro. "Is he.. like a prince?" Thali asked, blinking. Well, another kingdom of elves... they might turn out to be useful..
"Not exactly." Edmund said. "They're a gang that is under the city of Durem, and I think that they can be the one of the few good sources that can help solve my problem, even if they're evil."
Thali exchanged a look with Vate, before shrugging. This was beyond her; there was no mention of a gang of elves in the history books.
"If there is anyway we can help." Vate said. Edmund thought for a moment, and had an idea. "You can be of use." he said. "Would you two mind coming back to Durem with me?"
"Durem?" Thali repeated, frowning. "Where's that?" Vate seemed to be thinking the same thing, though he nodded at Edmund. "We'll come."
Thali didn't like the sight of Durem. Even though it was sunny, it still seemed to have a dark look to it. The two stared out of the windows of Edmund's car, as he drove it around the city. The group stopped in front of a building called Skin Tyte.
Vate was feeling uncomfortable. He didn't like cities. Durem seemed like the place where there would be wild teens getting drunk... and other stuff. Not his kind of place.
Edmund stopped the car,and turned it off. He opened the car door, Vate and Thali followed. Opening the door of the building, Thali nearly froze.
Vate merely walked past her. Thali had caught sight of the group inside, and wasn't willing to join in. No, they looked much too dangerous.
Thali and a girl with purple hair caught eye contact, and it made Thali jump a bit when she saw a grin grow on the girl's face.
"What?" The girl asked her. "Scared?" She walked towards Thali, grabbed her arm, and brought her towards the crowd.
Vate was uncomfortable, though he didn't seem as bothered as Thali did. And she'd been around people more than he had! He wondered why she was being so cautious.
"So think they can help, Edmund?" the girl asked. Edmund let out a weary sigh, and adjusted his glasses. "Yes Brandy," he said. "They will."
Thali looked at the girl with purple hair, curious. Was that her natural hair color? She caught a glimse of a girl with brown hair arguing with a boy with blonde.
Edmund face palmed. "Might as well have introductions!!" he said, frustrated. Quickly, he pointed at each person and said their names. "Natasha, Peter, Jeff, Paul, Duncan, Devin, Moira, Liam, Jennie," then at the purple haired girl, who gave a peace sign, "Brandy."
Jennie gave Edmund an angry look. "Oh yeah, and Gino." Edmund said.
Once introduced, Liam made his way over. He studied Thali, and smirked. "Know a good vet?" He asked. Thali was about to reply when..
Vate took a step forward, and Liam knew to back away.
Thali blinked in surprise. "He was just asking about a vet," She shrugged, looking at Vate. "I'm Thali," She told the group.
Brandy gave Thali a wink, and brutally pushed Liam away. "Just ignore him." she said, giving Liam a glare.
Thali looked sightly confused. "But what does a vet have to do with anything?" She asked.
Liam grinned. "My pyth--" He was interupted by Gino. "I think she's taken," He said, looking at Vate.
Brandy agreed. "Pretty much everyone but Liam is taken in this room." she replied with a smug grin.
Vate narrowed his eyes at Liam. He already disliked the boy. "So... what do we have to do?"
"Vampires are loose in Durem," Edmund explained. "And I know how to make an vaccine so people are immune in case if they get bitten." He pointed at Liam. "But the thing is, the Kuro gang has the rest of the supplies needed to make more of the vaccine." He gave a glare at Brandy and Devin. "I had another source, but the person no longer trusts us and wants nothing to do with it." Thali blinked and looked at the two, who only shrugged.

"Walk in, ask for what you need, walk out." Vate said. Edmund nodded.
Thali frowned, "But why would they give it to us?" She asked, confused. "We don't know them..." She could see Jennie facepalming besides Gino.
"You two are elves." Devin said. "Most likely, it won't matter what you say, they'll automatically trust you." Brandy looked up at him with her usual grin. "You're actually allowing this to happen?" Crossing his arms, Devin repiled, "We have no other choice."
Vate nodded in agreement, but Thali looked concerned. "And if they don't trust us?" She asked. "What do you do then?"
"We'll find a way." Vate said. Edmund nodded. "And with the large rivalry between all the races, they shouldn't hurt you or anything."

"At least they won't kill you!" Brandy chimed in, and Devin nudged her.
Thali frowned, but she nodded at Vate. "When this is over, we're free to go?" She asked, looking at Edmund.
Edmund nodded. "Of course." he said. "That is, if you want to be involved in this. It is fine if you wish not to."
Thali was about to refuse when she saw Vate's determined look. It was a new challenge. "My friend is injured--" Thali began, "Maybe when he gets well?" Vate frowned at her. "I'm fine." He insisted.
"If he's injured, he can rest." Edmund said. Brandy poked Jennie. "We could show her around Durem!" she suggested.
Jennie smiled, "Yeah!" She said, "We can show her Moira's shop!" Not that Jennie was implying that Thali needed some help with fashion sense..
"Wanna go on a Durem tour?" Brandy asked Thali.
Thali shrugged, she looked at Vate, who nodded at her. "Sure," She said.
Brandy and Jennie lead Thali out the door. "We'll be back soon!" Thali said.

"So...." Brandy said, sounding a bit mischevious. "Who's the guy you were with, Thali?"
Thali blinked, she didn't seem to understand the question. "His name's Vate," She told the girls. Jennie rolled her eyes. "No, we mean, are you dating him? He's pretty cute. For an elf."
Brandy nodded. "Yes yes," she said. "Tell us a bit about you and Vate. How did Edmund find you two?"
"Edmund found me while I was picking apples." Thali said simply. She didn't want to go into why she had been in the forest. "I introduced him to Vate, because he was asking for a dark elf."
Jennie didn't say anything, and Brandy looked unconvinced. "That's Durem Depot." she said, pointing at the store. "My sister works there."
Thali had never seen a store like it. She stared. "That's a store?" She asked. Jennie frowned at her. "Don't tell me you don't have stores where you're from." It was Thali's turn to frown. "Not like that," She said.
"Probably." Brandy said. "Durem's different than the other cities."
Thali gave a half smile as they walked into the store. The two teenagers started picking out what would look best on the confused elf.
"Leather mini skirt!" Brandy shouted, raising it in the air. But Jennie shook her head.
Jennie was picking out several pairs of jeans. "Like these?" She asked, showing them to Thali.
"She could get a tattoo." Brandy teased.
Thali blinked, "What's a tattoo?" She asked, curious.
Brandy pointed to the red star on her face. "Designs you can put on your skin." she said. "Devin can draw them on."
Thali was inspired. "Wow," She said, "That's awesome!"
"With special ink, too." Brandy said. "They come off whenever you want them to."
Thali couldn't help it, she was fascinated by the idea. "Let's go get one now!" She said. Jennie frowned. "Will your friend like that?" She asked.
Brandy blinked. "You over 18?" she asked. "You need permission if you aren't."
Thali frowned. "I don't need permission," She muttered. "I give myself permission."
Brandy shook her head. "Then Devin won't give you a tattoo." she said.
Thali scowled, and folded her arms. "I thought when I escaped I'd be able to do what I wanted..."
Instantly, Brandy leaned forward in interest. "Escaped? From where?" she asked quickly.
Thali frowned, "Nowhere," Was her automatic reply.
Brandy shrugged. "As if I never ran away before." she replied sarcastically.
Thali blinked. "You've run away too?" She asked. "From where?"
"From here." Brandy replied. "And long story short, I made a few friends and came back."
Thali nodded in understanding. "I ran away.. because they were trying to make me get married." She muttered.
Brandy raised her eyebrows. "Interesting." she said, then looked as if she were reading a romance novel. "So you thought you loved Vate more than who you were arranged with, and you two ran away together."
Thali shook her head. "No, Vate's actually the reason I ran away in the first place," She said.
"You guys get more interesting by the minute!" Brandy said.
Thali shrugged, she didn't see anything interesting about it. Jennie frowned, "But why would you run away from a cute guy like that?" She asked.
Thali didn't reply. "We can go back if you want." Brandy suggested, getting the feeling that Thali wasn't too fond of the tour.
Thali nodded, "Thanks for the tour," She said with a half smile. "Maybe Vate'll be feeling better."
The two headed back to Skin Tyte, and almost everyone was gone, even Vate. "They're upstairs." Devin explained, leafing through a book of tattoo designs. "Natasha wanted to teach Vate how to play Guitar Hero."
Thali grinned. "Vate doesn't like modern music," She said, remembering how he'd reacted to Daft Punk.
Jennie led Thali upstairs, while Brandy remained with Devin. "She doesn't like it here." Brandy said. Devin turned a page. "Surprised?" he asked.
Thali could hear the song from downstairs. She grinned, Vate wouldn't like 'Trogdor' anymore than he had liked 'One more time'. "Can I play?" She asked.
Vate was quick to hand the guitar to Thali. "Take it." he snapped.
Thali grinned. She was quick to save Vate's score from failing. Jennie's eyes widened as she watched. "Woah.." She muttered. "She's almost as good as Paul!"
Paul couldn't help but to frown in jealousy, and Peter

Joshua had always been good at getting his way: at least when it came to his mother. Thali was easily convinced of something-- for example: if the toddler said he needed a new toy, she'd believe he needed it. And now he was telling her that he needed a horse.

"But-- Josh, we don't have any where to put a horse.." Thali started, looking at Ben as she reluctantly said no. She hated being the bad guy.

Josh crossed his arms, and his lips trembled dangerously. How could they not get him a horse? He couldn't protect them if he didn't have one! Didn't they understand that he was trying to help him? How could he be like Aragorn if he didn't have a horse? He couldn't even be like King Edmund! "It can stay in my room and.. I'll take care of him everyday!" He looked up at his mother challengingly.

Uh-oh. They would have to get the horse-- or tolerate a toddler's wrath. Needless to say, she chose the latter.

"Sweet heart-- a horse isn't like a puppy or a kitten," She explained. "You can't keep them inside a bedroom.. they wouldn't fit. Maybe if we bought a stable and some land, we could get you one... But... Not now, okay?"

The toddler didn't seem at all pleased with that response. He narrowed his eyes, looking at his mother, and then his father. Since when did Mommy say no to him? Daddy must have told her to! Mommies were always supposed to say yes..

Weren't they?

Card Here

Valentines Day.. Josh knew about it only because he had over heard his father talking to himself (as he tended to do when concerned about something) about what to get Thali. When he asked what it was, Ben only replied that it was a day to get someone you cared about a present.

This was a troubling concept. The toddler cared about everyone. Was he supposed to get everyone a present? Would they get him a present? What kind of present should he get?

It was only when he asked his mother about it that he got a decent answer. She explained that Valentines Day was a day for a boy to get a girl he liked a card, chocolate or flowers. Or sometimes they exchanged gifts like Mommies and Daddies did on special days. This Joshua understood. He would get Nataya a flower for Valentines Day, and maybe a card too.

Girls liked flowers. He knew, because his cousin Almie had told him that the way to steal a girl's heart was through roses. The toddler didn't exactly understand this-- what were roses? And why would he want to take to a girl's heart? That sounded mean. He'd let Nattie keep hers, it was probably special to her anyway.

So roses were out. Maybe he could make something? He asked his mother for help, and she cheerfully agreed. She pulled out a piece of printer paper from the shelve underneath the computer desk, and drew a large heart. "You paint it," She told him, putting a plastic table cloth onto the floor, and providing him with a small paint brush and a napkin with a blob of red paint. "If you want her to like it, you're the one who has to make it."

Josh tried to keep inside the lines, he really did. The paint brush kept slipping and spattering and painting was just a big hassle! He looked at the masterpiece he'd created, before showing it to his mother. She smiled, and set it out to dry.

After a while, she showed the toddler an array of colored pens. "You want to sign it? Or tell me what to say." Josh took a blue marker, and wrote his name. Vate had just taught him how; would his uncle ever be proud!

Thali smiled when she saw how Josh signed his name. She nodded at the toddler, and asked, "What do you want me to write?"

Joshua had to think about that. What did people say on Valentines? He couldn't say 'I love you' that was icky. But maybe..

Thali smiled at his request, and wrote it inside the heart. She was sure Nataya would love the card. In the corner, opposite of the side which Josh had written his name, she put 'Valentines Day 2009'.

Vate was not in a good mood. His daughter had just given him "Good News" by which she meant telling him that she was going to have a baby. He had to catch his breath before saying anything.

"Who did this? I'll kill him! How dare he-- Who'll support you? You're not even married!" He ranted, without taking a breath. Almie sighed. Her father had never liked Duncan, and often made jokes about the man's intelligence. And what did being married have to do with anything? As far as she knew, Vate had never been part of any religion.

She also knew it wasn't a good idea to say anything when he was in the middle of a temper tantrum. It usually made him worse.

After a while, he seemed to calm down. "Grandkids though..." He said, looking at his daughter. "Do you think they'll like me?" He looked genuinely concerned.

Almie put her arms around him. Well, he seemed to be warming up to the idea. "They'll love you." She reassured him. "I love you."

"What, already?" Vate was surprised when Almira called to tell him the twins had been born. He had forgotten. Of course it wasn't going to be as long as an elven pregnancy; which could take from nine days to nine years, depending on the person. The dark elf's head started to pound. He was thinking too hard!

"Yeah-- Dad. They want to meet you. Soon." She said. She sounded tired. Of course she would be, it was to be expected, Vate supposed. He only paused in his thought when she continued. "Bring the boys along, they can meet their new cousins. I think Josh has been wanting another playmate, anyway.. And you can finally meet Duncan." She added.

Vate frowned. He didn't want to meet Duncan. He had never liked the sound of the man, and now he especially disliked him for marrying his daughter. But he supposed he should meet the new additions. Even if it meant meeting the man that he so disliked.

Ugh though, why did people have to be born as babies? They were so noisy. They cried and babbled and giggled and argh. Joshua was the only toddler he knew of that wasn't quite as annoying as the rest of them.

"I'll visit soon." He promised. Maybe being a grandfather wouldn't be so bad... As long as they didn't call him 'Grandpa'.
