I took a shower with cold water this time! And I turned off the water more often. I made a click donation on the site Kahri mentioned above for the rainforests. I should do something else though...

At work every one kept putting bottles in the trash so at the end of the day I sorted all the bottles out and recycled them the papers too. Kept an eye out on some ducks on the board walk and when ever I see birds on the walk way or in front of me I always slow down and try to go around them so I don't scare them.
And when a seeing eye dog or guide dog comes on the bus I'm on I always keep an eye out for him or her so In case some ignorant person doesn't look where there going I already confronted one such bozo whose bag nearly hit a seeing eye dog in the face he wasn't watching what he was doing.

That's really cool- keeping an eye out for the seeing eye dogs. I'm glad that somebody's doing that.^_^

The staples came out today! By this time, they were pretty well embedded in my arm, but they didn't bleed quite as much as I thought that they would. There isn't even any bruising that I can see.^_^ All in all, I'm very pleased with the results of this experiment. Now the main problem is that I have these parallel lines of little staple holes in my arm, and it kind of looks like I've either got track lines, or that I've been doing some sort of allergy testing on myself.^_^' Perhaps I should use some band-aids or some tape or something to cover it up while I'm at work.

At the grocery store today I bought about five packs of organic vegetables, and a small package of organic beef. I need to contact Whole Foods at some point and ask them some questions about the meat they sell- whether it can be certified as humanely butchered, and/or what their criteria for beef products are. I wish that there was some sort of watchdog organization which would place a certain symbol on a package of meat to show that their processing plants are supervised and certified humane- maybe there will be something on that Certified Humane website that I linked to in the How You Can Help sticky, so I should probably start by going back over that website.^_^

Well I signed I don't know how many petitions and clicked a bunch of times on care2...and about the supervising to see if stuff is organic or not, I think the USDA does that....On my Silk soymilk carton it has a green/white circle on it that says USDA organic. ^^

They supervise whether something is organic, but do they supervise slaughter? According to that petition we've been sending letters about, it would seem not. Not only that, but the government knows about inhumane slaughter practices, and it's already against federal law, and yet they're not actually enforcing those laws. What they say in the petition letters is absolutely correct- this is a breach of our trust, when we have laws passed in order to stop such things from happening, and even when the infractions are well documented still nothing is done! I want an organization that I can trust to tell me if the meat really was humanely processed, so that I can buy only from those places.

So far today I've recycled quite a bit of plastic and paper.^_^

Well I don't know of a company that supervises slaughter, but I'll be on the lookout! biggrin

OK, so yesterday I continued recycling paper and plastic, and chose not to print a receipt when I refueled- in order to save paper.

On the way home I stopped to do some grocery shopping- I went to Whole Foods to pick up some meat because I figured that they're my best bet for humanely processed food. While I was at their meat counter I started reading their signs, and they say that their meats are "Processed with Care." They say that they choose their meats from every stage of production to meet with their standards, which to me says that they have standards for every stage of production- including slaughter- and that they supervise production enough to ensure that these standards are met. And knowing the folks at Whole Foods, their standards very likely to match up with mine. The question is, how fully do they match up? So I still need to talk to someone in charge and find out exactly what their standards are, or perhaps search around on their website, but this looks hopeful. So I bought all meat items there.

I also picked up organic marinara sauce for this eggplant thing I'm trying to invent (I'm needing to come up with more meatless meals since my cost of meat is going up, now that my purchases are becoming more selective), paper towels and toilet paper made from recycled paper, and organic spaghetti sauce.

The Whole Foods in our area has this neat thing where if you don't use any bags to take your groceries out, they will either give you a credit for $0.05 or they'll give you a token worth that amount, which you can drop into one of the boxes they have set up for various charities. It's a lot of fun to pick out which one you want to put your token in (I chose the token option, since $0.05 just isn't worth much unless you can lump it together with a lot of other folks' donations). I contributed to the Theater of Yuugen, which is a theater group inspired by traditional Japanese Noh theater. There was also a box for the local Academy of Science, and a couple of other groups. There weren't any there yet for animal rescue groups- which was what I'd originally been looking for- but it seems to be a new thing after all. Maybe after a while they'll have a few more boxes.^_^

OK, now I'm going to go back to working on the Shopping Guide for a bit, and add some more things.^_^

You've been recycling a lot of paper lately.^_^ How much would you say you've gained?

(obligatory contribution per post- I also bought some organic green chai, which is a new one for me. I've had the red chai, and loved it- I'm brewing up the green right now, so we'll see how it goes.^_^)
