Our efforts at preserving our environment, and the lives which share this world with us, are only as good as the actions we are willing to put behind them. So here is a thread where you can post your good deed(s) for the day- whatever that may be. You don't have to save an entire species to post here- just do something. Really, small and sustained actions are best, especially for those of us who are just getting started. Don't go for heroics every day- that's the best way to exhaust yourself and burn out, and that does nothing for the planet in the end. Just do something, do it regularly, and post about it here if you like. It is my hope that this thread will become lengthy and substantial, so that we may all see in a more concrete form the way that all of our little contributions stack up- and dispell once and for all the myth that such actions don't matter, because "no one else cares" or "you're the only one helping."

So post away! And as a nice bonus, those of us who are questing for items and the environment can reap a reward in Gaia gold!^_~

Hmm...I don't remember me doing anything in particular today...I took Metro w/ their bio-fuel and then walked home about a mile from the bus stop! xd

I planted a couple of acorns that were lying on the sidewalk, I helped an ant from drowning, I picked up bottles and cans on my way to school and back and then recycled them.

I've gone at least two or three days now without ever having turned on an electric light.^_^ I'm conserving energy by using natural sunlight, and the wind as my air conditioner.

I'm also saving space in the land fills, by recycling the plastic capsules which our syringes are packed in at work (you'd be surprised how many of those we use each dayO_o), and re-using newspaper as a lining for my cat's litter box rather than buying the plastic liners.

I'm also saving water by being very conservative about the number of dishes I use throughout the day- fewer dishes means less water and soap need to be used to clean them.

Good job everyone!

Today my school's environmental club had a meeting and we went outside to give the new members an idea of where we wanna go with the Schoolyard Wildlife Habitat thing, and on the way I picked up some litter. xd

Wonderful! Well, while I was out taking notes at Whole Foods, I found some really wonderful shampoos and conditioners which are 100% organic and are not tested on animals! So I picked them up, along with some organic mustard and ketchup, and organic milk.^_^ All the brands should be up on the shopping guide later on today.^_^

I think that all I did today was feed my pets and recycle...

Even the smallest things can make a big difference. Imagine if everyone recycled a little bit, that's a lot of people, and that would be a lot of things recycled. ^_^

Exactly! And if you do it often, it makes an even bigger difference! mrgreen

Hmmm... lets see me being an art freak I'll tell you the things I do to try and help. When cutting paper I make sure that I cut anything close together and put all big scraps in the scrap box or small ones in recycling. When we play music we share all of the sheets of music so as not to make to many copies for each of us and I compost and recycle all I can or reuse it for an art project ^^

My contributions for the day:

Further recycling of plastic syringe capsules and soda bottle.
Continuing efforts at keeping dishes and lights to a minimum.
Volunteered some of my time to the Katrina animal rescue effort.^_^

Good job, everyone! With all the pessimism (sp?) there is for the future environment, it's nice to hear people doing good things every now and then. 3nodding heart

Sorry I haven't been posting lately, but I have been maintaining my contributions.

Special additional activities included buying organic cheese, which is a new one for me- the shredded cheeses come in such small packets that I don't usually go for them, but in this case I actually wanted to limit our use of the item so it worked out great.^_^

Also, I bought a few new toys for my cat from the animal shelter, rather than a pet store- this way the profits from the purchase go toward helping homeless and abandoned animals. She loves the crackly butterfly toy- when she's not playing with it, she rests her head on it and goes to sleep. heart

Well, today wasn't very exciting for me. I don't have a job, so I continued my search for a job in animal care or education at a zoo, museum or aquarium. Of course, I recycled when I finished the milk canister. I've used only one cup all day, and rinsed it lightly between drinks. That way the dishwasher doesn't need to be run as much. Those are all normal things for, all part of Reusing and recycling. I'm not sure if I reduced much today.

I can't wait to have a job and go back to making a bigger difference. I will be able to educate again, or care for animals that are important in some way to our future. Doing that was the most fufilling thing I've ever done with my life.
